Hi All,
I've tried searching for info but conflicting info wrt dalvik cache etc etc...
So i decided to just ask
I flashed yesterday with the german version of ICS. I bought mobile Odin and did it via that as prescribed in threads here.
ICS is AWESOME! one thing....my GPS is not working...i can enable it but it never locks on or show the icon in status bar.
Any ideas?
I've flashed chace with cache cleaner...no luck
thanks all!!
i had this problem yesterday and thought of going back to GB but i retried anyway. i rebooted the phone, did the horizontal and gyroscope calibration and left the GPS on for a while in the open. it seems that locking to gps for the first time takes too long but now i get up to 18 satellites on this ics rom, on GB i only get up to 16 satellites.
Aha!!
restarted and the gps is locking on....hehe
if all else fails reboot
Guys, i wonder how to know how many satellites are locked at a time?
The only way to Enable GPS as i knw is:
Location & Security --> Use GPS Satellites
So how to see how many satellites are getting locked on varied locations ?

You can enable GPS from the sliding status bar (when you side down menu from the top).
To see how many satellites your phone is locking on to, download GPS status from the market which is free, it also displays the accuracy in meters.
Reboot after new install was solution for me.
I had the same problem, the icon did not even display in the title bar. Important - I had not rebooted since upgrading.
One reboot later and everything is Hunky Dory again.
I had rebooted several times since the update on my UK Note. GPS did not work until I rebooted with GPS enabled. Seems to work normally since even if rebooted with GPS disabled.

Many thanks - this quick fix sorted me - I was panicing a bit that my new SGN wasn't working!

Hi,
I got a Samsung Galaxy S here in Australia, rooted it and upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 I know that GPS worked just fine with 2.1, I was able to walk home and see my position updating very nicely on Google maps
Since updating to 2.2, GPS hasn't worked at all. When I turn it on, and start an application that uses GPS (Navigation, Maps, etc), the GPS icon sits there and flashes back and forth between those two types of icons and I don't get anything on the maps which shows me where I am. I haven't chased this up since upgrading, but it's starting to bug me now
After searching these forums for 'gps not working', I've pulled down the 'GPS test' application and I don't know for sure, but it appears to find one satellite:
PRN SNR Elev Azim Flags
2 11.0 74.0 150.0
But the GPS icon just sits there flashing back and forth.
I may have missed something since upgrading, do I need to do something to the phone to get my GPS working again?
Thanks!
OK, I seem to have fixed the problem I turned on "Use wireless networks" and voila! I now have successful GPS lock and position in my maps
I would have thought that you could use GPS without having "Use wireless networks" turned on!?

Wouldn't call it a successful GPS lock. Since you got it with the mobile networks. (in my case when I use it . the accuracy in my village is about 1000-1500m since the BTS is that much far from me )
So if you get into an area with weak mobile networks, wont help you much .
Wouldnt call this as resolved with "BAD GPS" cuz your GPS still sucks as before (and doesnt work , you just found a workaround that was there also before , 2.2.1 has even some other function for GPS that tries to fix it (or help?) )
But since you can use it now, its ok I guess . OH and there are kinda almost no real fixes for this. Most of SGS GPS suck . There is GPS aids, shutting down wifi, GPS status app, changing the something according to your country.
Ok!
I got the same problem as the user from the post.
GPS worked like a charm on my Galaxy S (NDrive or Google) running 2.1.
I updated it to Froyo 2.2.1 JS7 and since then it doesn`t work anymore.
I can't get a fix.
I did the GPS position test and It locks on 8 satelites. Why the F%CK it doesn`t work anymore?
I am almost going back to Eclair.
Any sugestions?
TY!
So you get a lock when doing the GPS test, but no luck in any other applications? I couldn't get a lock at all until I turned on my wireless as well as the GPS, then it worked for GPS test as well as applications...
I get a lock on 8 satelites on the Location Test with and without "Use Wireless connections".
BUT
I can't get a lock when I am using Google maps, with or without "Use Wireless connections".
I bought the AIDS GPS app on Market, but it did't work neither.

I also installed GPS Aids and paid for it.
This program does automatic changes to your GPS settings.
Maybe it works for you.
Hi guys,
ok, my GPS has not worked on my Galaxy S for a long time now. I am always flashing new roms, kernals and it may be something to do with that.
Currently I am running the MUIU Beta rom, but it hasnt worked on previous roms like Darkys.
I decided to download GPS aids from the market ro run some tests.
It downloads the LTO test file, but is unable to copy it.
It says "The application cannot copy files from SDcard to a SYSTEM folder. Maybe it is a busybox problem"
Busybox 1.18.4 is installed to /sbin/
GPS aids has superuser permissions
Google maps hasnt been able to get a fix for a long time. GPS Test cannot find any satelites.
Not sure what I did to cause this problem, but can it be fixed?
Is this a hardware issue?
I know it sounds silly, but do you have your wireless turned on when you are trying to use your GPS? After flashing to 2.2 on my Galaxy S, I found that I couldn't get a GPS lock without having my wireless turned on!
Edit: My original thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986151
Thanks for the quick answer.
Yes the Wifi is switched on, but nothing. Not even one satelite.
The funny thing is that the GPS used to work great. A lot of people werent happy with it but I had no problems.
I got a lock within 10 seconds. I just dont know what I have done to stop it working! lol
Flashing roms you may now have a bad modem or wrong set up especially as you have a beta rom and darky rom .
I would flash stock with pit 512 and reparation checked in other words build a clean phone .

Have you tried the gps test app to see if it is at least seeing the gps satellites or possibly getting a lock?

Hi, yes Ive tried that app. It doesnt find any satelites at all. Nothing!
Unfortunately, I really can't think of anything else. Sadly I believe JJEgan's advice above maybe the only other option
This thread has another possible option http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974702
You may also want to check out the GPS settings on the phone. I'd have to search the forums for the code that gives you access to them.
*#*#1472365#*#* for 2.1 Eclair.
*#*#3214789650#*#* for 2.2 Froyo.
Not sure, but give this a try... my i9000 can get a gps lock in about 5 seconds with no wifi.
Download Fasterfix from the marketplace.
Run it and choose the region that you are in.
In the Location settings, turn off "Use wireless networks" and turn on "Use GPS Satellites"
Go into the LbsTestMode
*#*#1472365#*#* for 2.1 Eclair.
*#*#3214789650#*#* for 2.2 Froyo.
Application settings - Operation mode - Standalone
Application settings - Accuracy - 100
SUPL/CP Settings - Auto Config
Re-boot your phone
Go back into the LbsTestMode
Get Position Test - Let it run for at least 3 minutes while your phone is outside (clear sky view).
Delete GPS Data.
Hopefully that will work for you as well. I was unable to get a GPS lock without wifi prior to this, and now my GPS locks perfectly on its own.
2.2.1
I9000UGJL2
Voodoo 5.4.1
Darky's v9.3.XWJS5
Okay guys, so I know that this question has been done to death but I really can't find anything about it.
I recently installed the most recent July 9th version of AOKP. Everything works fine except for my gps.
I have done "• If your GPS doesn't work after flashing, fastboot back to stock ICS, then flash this is CWM." this step in the AOKP ROM thread multiple times.
When I'm on stock, obviously the GPS works fine and can pick up satellites ect. However, when I run the GPS status app or the GPS test app now, it tells me the GPS is on, and the gps icon blinks in the status bar but no satellites are found. I have tried resetting GPS and getting Xtra data in the GPS status app. In the GPS test app, it tells me the GPS is on but the light is yellow in the box that says GPS status. I also have tried clearing and updating AGPS in this app.
Any ideas?
have the same questions , i use the CM and MIUI ,the GPS can not work ,but use the 4.1.1 the GPS works fine....
then i flashed the CM ang miui again ,the GPS can not work again ...
can not find a good way to solve it.

What you get is not really GPS data... If you get it only after flashing gapps, it indicates it is Google location service based on mobile network or WiFi...
Sent from my Atrix HD using xda app-developers app
I was outside when I was testing it.
It was the first time I needed GPS since I started using AOKP. I was fiddling with it in the parking lot for a while. When it didn't work, I went home and did what I said above and then sat in my car and tried to get it to work.

when i tested the GPS, the wifi and gprs were both off. Only the GPS is on .
Some of the gps files were tweaked in the past week or so (dev-team side). Later today I'll be building a new PAC with those updated files. If GPS breaks I'll see if I can't find a fix then. Might need a new GPS lib or some tweaking to the repos....can't really say anything concrete right now.
Bumping this thread again to see if anyone who has had this problem can help me. Just went back to stock after wiping everything. Made sure gps worked. Then I factory reset, cleared the two caches, and flashed AOKP and GAPPS.
GPS still does not work. No satellites picked up, just constant blinking up in the status bar.
Hello, I've tried everything to make it work, I installed the GPS apps and everything, even flashed two different roms and still not working.. Is it a kitkat problem?

I tried restarting my phone and that got the GPS to turn on. But it wouldnt turn off itself whenever you exit an app like Maps or a GPS status app. The icon will continue to flash on the tool bar for a while and eventually turn of by itself. If you try to activate the GPS again you need to restart your phone.
Im not sure if this is a 4.4.2 problem or a unlocked/rooted problem. Ill try to revert my phone back to stock tonight

my gps doesnt have that problem..download an app called gps status, it shows how many satellites are in the field, then click on agps reset, then download then reboot..some people report this method fixes their gps, but doesnt fix mine ..keep me informed
I'm having the same issue lately after sending my phone to service to fix camera... My gps doesn't want to fix satellites. I tried reverting to stock (keeping s-off and unlocked bootloader) installed a guru reset rom and applied otas but no way till now. Last chance will be flashing a ruu, didn't have time yet but I'll do it in a couple days. I will keep you guys informed, if anyone succeeds in fixing it, please post how you did it!
Gps status sometimes sees satellites but signal is too low and never grows. I even tried tweaking gps.conf file a lot but no way...
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
Update: i tried with a RUU zip with android 4.1.2 and applied otas till 4.3 (that was the last one i received) on one of this upgrades camera was unable to launch but on the next one it came back. And no way to get gps working with any one of these upgrades. Gps status sees a number of satellites (weird thing, after every new flash glonass satellites appear with some sort of signal -- snr <= 1.18 --, until i reset gps data and download new agps files, then they never come back until i flash some other version/rom) but never gets an acceptable signal enough to lock..
Really don't know what else to try, i think i will send back to service..

Any update on this?
Im having issues with my GPS as well. I use the ViperOne ROM (latest) with the ElementalX firmware. When I try to use Google Maps the following will happen:
1) GPS will find my location ok and calculate a route ok.
2) I start driving and the blue arrow in google maps does not move OR it thinks im on a different road than I actually am. When it thinks im on a different road the arrow may or may not move...more often than not it just stays still.
3) I have driven for over 10min hoping it will eventually start to work but it doesn't.
4) The only way I have got it to work is to pull over, stop nav, close maps and try again. Generally on the 2nd or 3rd try it will start to work correctly.
My GPS was working fine before I rooted and installed a custom ROM. I will try wiping and flashing ViperOne tonight and use the stock firmware instead of ElementalX. Will report back to see if this works.

Nop no good still. If anyone has a fix for this it would be appreciated!!!
Same issues here after sending in for repair. GPS sees about 18-20 satellites per the gps status apps, but only fixes on 3-4 with weak signals. Tried a few gps.conf tweaks which help but seems that they're just using more of the AGPS data and not actually the GPS chip.
EDIT: Have tried a few fresh wipes and different ROMs, GPE edition, etc. - all the same. This never happened in the past :/

I have tried updating the firmware to the latest version and different ROMS but that did not help. However I discovered that in google maps if I select the walk mode my navigation will work! Unfortunately thats no help as I need the car mode to work.
I installed GPS Status and it locks on to plenty of satellites so im not sure why Google Maps (or any nav apps) will not work.
I came to the same conclusion as you. It seems like the phone is using AGPS and not the GPS data.

I did a little research the other day ...I can't find the link but I remember most of it..
Apparently one of the Google+ and/or playstore silent background updates mess up gps on google maps for HTC One.
Using the 'GPS essentials' and 'Gps status' apps you can actually lock on to all the gps satellites fine.
Also using navigation, like you did...also locks on fine.
Its the standard google maps over view and a few other apps that use it (like my bus map app) that are affected.
One work around is apparently (didn't work for me though) going into the google settings app and tinkering with Google+ settings. turning it off or clearing it or something.
This is a software issue. I'm on untampered pure stock.
So I have resolved the GPS issue on my device. I tried a whole bunch of things so im not totally sure what fixed it. I:
Removed HTC Backup using root uninstaller
Using Faster GPS set my location and added the TRUE flag to AGPS_Enable
Using GPSFix I waited until it locked onto a satellite.
Rebooted my phone then tested with GPS Test. My phone locked onto about 8 satellites.
Tried Google maps navigation and it worked.
So far its been 3 days, 2 reboots and counting. Hopefully something similar works for you.
If you're rooted editing the GPS.conf file fixes it perfectly. The default setting are just totally crap

And GPS has stopped working again. What a pain.
Go here. This is how I fixed my HTC one. It works on all android phones. The default GPS.conf file is rubbish
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630
I tried the gps.conf file in that link. It seemed to be slightly better at first, locking onto 3 satellites with yellow SNR in GPS Test. But then I tried resetting and downloading the AGPS data with GPS Status and after it doesn't even detect satellites anymore.
Question to the posters in the thread. Have any of you dropped your phone before this started happening? I've gone through 2 M7s and the GPS stopped working properly after taking a nasty spill and have been unsuccessful in remedying the problem.

I have dropped my phone several times however it is in a protective case. My issue started out of the blue: one day it was working just fine, the next it was highly erratic...and has been since.
I can't seem to connect to GPS after upgrading to android pie.
Was just wondering if there's any known solution or people having the same issue.

The same - GPS not working on 47.2.A.8.24 Customized DE, original firmware was Customized CE1
Its hard to notice the issue as most of applications are using Google Location service which does very good job in the urban areas - but whenever I go to the mountains the issue pops up.
Edit: clearing A-GPS data with GPS status & Toolbox app and reboot helped, lets see for how long.
EDIT: GPS stopped working after 23 hours, clearing AGPS and reboot did not help, fighting
Did someone find a fix to this very annoying issue?
Hey everyone
To people who encountered this issue, have you ever found a fix?
This is so annoying... It's not clear if it is a hardware or a software issue as clearing the GPS cache fixes the problem temporarily.
Thanks!
Hello,
I have come across the same issue in the past. I resolved mine by entering Service Menu (dial: *#*#7378423#*#*) and then from within the menu: Service tests -> GPS -> Purge assistance data. This resolved it for good. Reboot. Done.
Thanks,
Jack
Hi Jack,
Thanks for the update
In my case, the issue is still occurring... even if I clean the assistance data.
Did someone tried to modify the APN type in the settings ?
Something like "default,supl,a-gps,dun" instead of "default" only
I remember PIE update cleared all the parameters....
Go into airplane mode, open settings\apps & notifications\app info - find maps and force stop - go into storage and wipe the cache & data
Reboot phone, disable airplane mode.

I think I tried this once or twice a few month ago. It worked but not permanently. The issue appeared again a few days later... Does it work permanently with your phone or is it just temporary ?
The problem is still here and nobody has found any permanent fix...
Hello all,
Same problem here in a Xperia XA2. After upgrade to Android 9 Pie (50.2.A.0.379), it was not possible to get any satellite fix and GPS position was never established.
According to different apps, many satellites were visible (usually more than 20) but it was not possible to fix none of them.
Finally fixed the problem after 2 weeks trying everything I read helped other users, so I leave here the full list for reference.
Troubleshooting done after googling:
- Restart device
- Restart device in safe mode
- Clearing A-GPS data with GPS status & Toolbox app
- Turn on and off "Improve location accuracy"
- Turn off battery saver
- Turn off and on WiFi scanning.
- Purge assistance data on Service Menu
- Turn on airplane mode
Then I contacted Sony support who suggested:
- WiFi vs. SIM network/network settings
- SIM cards from different providers
- Manual vs. automatic choice of networks and preferred networks
- Network settings reset
- Factory reset
Still not solved. Contacted support again and statement was "try a Software Repair on Xperia Companion, if this is not solving the issue, it's a HW problem".
Honestly, after a Factory reset I didn't think nothing would help, but device was already wiped out, so it was worth a try.
And it worked. Satellites are getting fixed again and I have GPS positioning.
Please be aware the "Software repair" will erase all data in your mobile, but hopefully will fix GPS too
FFS!
I thought I'd found a decent small phone, but no.
HTC phones (the top-tier ones - U11 Life is crap) have always just worked!
