[Q] USB Debugging-What does it mean on battery? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have noticed that there is different battery drain pattern if I check/uncheck the USB DEBUGGING option under the Settings-->Application.
Can anyone help me understand what does USB DEBUGGING mean and what should I do (check/uncheck) for better battery usage?

simple, if you don't use it , turn it off.
how much different do you see? it should be close to zero

Strange Power settings Option

Does anyone know what the new setting in the Power settings mean, and I am talking about:
"When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to PC"
Either I do not understand what it menas or this is a totally useless feature... Why would I not want to charge my device while connected to USB?? Save the battery of your LAPTOP ??
yep. or keep pda's battery in better condition and charge only when it is almost empty...
Yes, when portable, or connected to a non powered USB port or hub, the phone won't be tapping power. Not bad to have a choice.
Lithium batteries do not need or like to be deep cycled.
With Li-ion batteries I think the best thing to do is top them up all the time. There is even some talk that running to empty doesnt do them any good.
Matt.

Y or N? "When device is turned on,do not charge the battery when connected to the PC"

what do you guys have for this option? i am wondering if this will kill the battery faster, so i just leave it on. Now it won't charge when it connected to the computer.
Thankssss

Smarter power plan via USB

When connected to a computer via USB, there are two options, one is charge the battery one is not. But frequent plug in/off Kaiser with USB will frequently switch charge/uncharge status. Will this harm battery life?
Is there any smarter power plans, like whatever USB is connected, charge when battery level is below 2%.
Is there a setting/software could do this?

There's an idea for an application there. It shouldn't be too hard to cobble together either (famous last words). But the important factor is:
"Will this harm the battery life?"
If this is the case I will try and create an app, if there isn't one out there. If there is no harm to the battery, an app would be useless.

[Q] [DEV] Disabling USB Charging

I want to disable charging when the device is connected to a USB port (and yes, some of you may say it's unnecessary).
I tried to modify "USB Charge Commander" to make it work with Galaxy S, but I'm having a hard time finding the property that disables USB charging on this device.
It should be something like the following (adb shell):
setprop persist.sys.charging.disable
Any ideas?

Samsung Galaxy SL-GT-i9003 (Gingerbread 2.3.4)
I would like to know how to solve this as well.
Pardon my ignorance, but if you disable USB charging, how will you charge your phone?
I realise that you could turn the feature on again if the phone is working, but if it runs out of power with the feature selected, how would you recharge it?
With an AC/DC-charger which you get when you buy your phone?!

It only disables charging when you connect your phone to a PC, not when you're using the adapter.
If the device is out of juice, then Android is not running and you can still charge the device through a PC's USB port.
this would come really handy!!
i know the phone can detect if its charging from USB or AC adapter...
any ideas?
You could cut the red wire in the USB cable.
no no red no, blue one!
How to disable usb charge?!
What's the point of disable USB charging?
People need to stop asking stupid questions as why? etc Maybe he has a mavic (as i do) and the phone drains the remote quickly etc. Instead of posting this kind of **** maybe you should just stay away from the keyboard,it is annoying that you don;t have pertinent answears, only stupid questions

[Q] Is it bad for the battery if you plug and unplug it a few times?

I was using the USB debugging feature and I noticed that when you switch from camera mode to media mode it stops charging for just a moment. I had to do this several times to make sure the .bat file I was running was working. I also unplugged it from the computer once and plugged it back in. It was below 10% during this.
Was that bad for the battery at all?

No reason that would hurt the battery. But plugging and unplugging devices from a USB slot on your computer without "ejecting" them properly can cause data corruption over time.
