i have read all the other threads concerning my problem, and i havent been able to fix it someone please help me, i tried flashing a kernel to my phone from the all in one kit and now im stuck on the htc logo screen, i can access the recovery and fastboot
You will need to find the original gb rom and go from there. I will link to you tomorrow. Pm if you any help

GB? does it matter if i had ICS before this problem?
I believe it doesn't matter. When you flashed the kernel with stock ics, it will messed your stuff up. Find the gb download, then go to boot loader, it will ask you to update or not. Say yes then let it do it's thing. Then boom. Gingerbread.

Did you even read the link they posted? It tells you exactly what to do in the op of that thread. Questions are good but it is a general rule to read before asking questions.

In case you didn't read it, it says out it in your external card and boot into boot loader by holding down volume down + power. It should scan it and ask if you would like to update or not. Select yes, then it should reboot or something. Yada, you are back to gingerbread.

Thank you so much ill try it out after i get back from school
ok one problem i dont have an sd card...
I am not sure if you could still do it wihlh internal storage. Load into boot loader, choose the recovery option then select internal USB tuggle. I am not sure if your system will detect the file. Let me make sure.

ok so i put the file on the sd card then i put it in the phone, then i go into bootloader then it says no image 9 times
oh yesss i got it thanks a lot
You welcome ^^ glad I helped. Planning to root?

Hey guys I'm very new to all this, I just used the z4root (Permenent root) method on my g1 dream and I would like to try a new rom on it but for some reason rom manager will not flash clockwork mod recovery or amon on it, it keeps saying that an error has occured when trying to access special privileges or something like that. does is matter if I'm using the free version or not? and do I need to put a custome hboot or bootloader on the phone as well? I've been reading for the last two days through these forums and I'm really lost and confused on how to do this. I understand that I must flash the rom from the custom recovery but can I get to the recovery through the hboot/bootloader once the custom recovery is flashed? Please help anyone. I appreciate it.
Never used z4 so cant really help there but i do know that you need a custom recovery to flash anything. So the question is can you get a recovery flashed. Can you boot into the os and log in? if so maybe you can get a terminal from the market and flash amonra from there with the instructions in his op. Not sure but worth a try.
z4root dont work proplerly try unviersal androot
Cool, hey johnson8 I really appreciate your help...so you're saying that the z4root has something to do with my phone not being able to download three recovery?

This is the guide you need to set up adb on your computer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
If you have any questions i will try to help. After this is done you should be set up to run adb and fastboot commands from your pc.
Do everything in this guide except the recovery image. You will be doing that via ezterry's thread with amonra recovery. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck
Ok will do..I appreciate all your help and have a safe trip..

I had the same problem and was somewhat freaking out for a few hours today. You need to install clockworkmod most likely. Get the data from the clockworkmod thread over in the development subsection, and use the fastboot flash recovery command to install it.
I'm about to go to sleep, but if you can get to fastboot don't freak out like I did. PM me if you can't figure it out by tomorrow. I can try my best to help (although I admit I'm also very noobish in many ways)
theres a clockworkmod recovery for vivid ?

Yes, in the development section.
Not trying to sound like an a-hole but people really need to read and ask questions before they try to start doing these things to their phone.

From what I understand, this is completely normal, Gingerbread used to do this every time it booted, what it is basically doing is building/updating the DALVIK cache for the JIT compiler. ICS does the same thing but it actually shows you what it is doing instead of just making you look at an emotionless boot-screen.
Go to menu then power then enable fastboot. From then on ice will only optimize after a cache wipe. Or fresh install and such

Just curious. Why go out of your way, to possibly screw up something that is working? It does take about an extra minute or two to boot up, but what would you be doing with that extra time.
Yea you got a point thanks ill leave it alone lol

It's actually not a normal Ice Cream Sandwich thing (on every boot), but rather a bug in the ICS release from HTC. It should only do it once on first boot up or after a dalvik cache wipe. As far as I know, it's been reported to them many times as a bug. Who knows when they'll fix it.
But yes, a de-odexed ROM would get rid of this.

Download RE Explorer then press the little button up right "R/W" to gain write privilege and then go to:
system/framework and delete "com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar" and the below .odex file then go to: system/etc/permissions and delete "com.google.widevine.software.drm.xml"
That's it! Restart and the issue is gone...say thanks please
Note: if it doesn't work your system rebuilds the files on start up, do the same from the file manager of your recovery...guaranteed!

So your phone is on Gingerbread? And you downloaded the official stock ICS update rom?
What is the file name that you downloaded? How big is it?

Just do this if you want to ever go back to ics stock
1) Download this ruu: http://dl3.htc.com/application/htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_US.exe I got the download from here http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-vivid-att/software-updates
2) just double click file it downloads when ever you want to go back to stock...it will walk you through the process
Extra info:
-ruu stands for Rom update utility
-it is the official stock ics
-no, your warranty won't be voided by using it...
-it can only be used on windows
-it will delete all your apps and everything (except for stuff on your sd and external sd...like any thing you downloaded from a browser or put on your phone through USB)
-it takes a while...if it gets stuck do not unplug just wait it out
-if your freaking out cause its taking so long just ask in the q&a section for advice

I've followed the instructions below for installing jelly bean and my phone will do everyhing but once I flash the jelly bean ROM (and I've tried 3 different ones) they all get stuck at the boot screen. The phone is unlocked, rooted, has ext4recovery, blackrose, sd partitioned . Current ROM is cm 10 and its sitting at the cm screen. It will go into fastboot. Everything was done according to the instructions. What is missing. Please help me. Been working on it for hours.

Is your partition layout 268/168/0? Can't really read it on that small picture. If it is, then there's your problem. Or do you have an ext-partition for A2SD on your µSD-card for userdata?
Unfortunately, no it is an 8. Darn. I also do not have that other thing you asked installed on the card.
I just can't quite understand why it appears that everything is set up right but just gets stuck at that boot screen.
Please if you can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

So it's 268/160/8 ? Then there's still your problem. It should be 268/8/160 [system/cache/userdata].
Thank you soooo much!! I have a question. How do I change it ? I wonder how come it isn't right.. But, most importantly I am grateful for you helping me.

You can change it by using blackrose.exe or by flashing one of these partition layouts in your recovery.
I believe they are not all on the front page, so search inside that topic too if you can't find your preferred partition layout.

Resize BlackRose (system : 260, cache: 8 , the rest will automatically be set to userdata).
And install 4EXT recovery on your phone and re-partition your SD card. That is what tommert38 has mentioned over there. You need atleast 1 GB of space in order to install apps onto your SD card.
recovery flashable zip of 260/8/168
