Need help updating to official GB with LG software - LG Thrill 4G

I am trying to update a friend's thrill to the official GB release using The LG mobile support tool and I cant seem to get the software to recognize the phone. Here is the guide I am following...
How to Update LG Thrill 4G to Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread V20P Steps:-Download and install the LG Thrill 4G Drivers: Download
-Download and install the LG update tool: Download
-Remove your external SD card from your phone
-Plug your phone in(Choose Internet Connection Mode) and the update tool will
check your phone. The "Start Updating" will turn red when the tool is done reading the phone.
-Click "Start Updating" and phone will update within 30-40 minutes.
-Finish updating.
-Now your LG Thrill 4G has Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread V20P installed.
I installed the software, installed the driver, but I don't see where to connect the phone in "Internet Connection Mode". I tried USB debugging mode and I am able to start the update but it will eventually say something like "can't communicate with phone"

Nevermind, The "USB mass storage only" box needed unchecked.

You need download mode or emergency mode its the same just turn phone off remove battery and hold volume + and power while watching the PC device manager under ports plug phone into PC then battery and about 3 seconds after you replace battery release buttons in ports on device manger you should see lge cosmopolitan something or other then proceed with update be careful not to unplug phone until its done hope this helps

[Q] Upgrade program crashed, stuck in upgrade boot screen. Now what? SOLVED!

Like the title says:
I just tried to upgrade my Optimus 2X via PC software. The package downloaded fine but in the middle of the upgrade process the PC software crashed(!) and now I have a phone which is stuck in the upgrade boot screen saying:
"S/W Upgrade
Please wait while upgrading..."
So, what now? Any way to get this thing working again?
First, remove your battery and put it in your phone. Boot the phone up and see where it goes. If it goes into S/W mode again, that sucks. If it goes to the LG boot screen, put the battery out again and put it in. Press Power + Volume Down buttom to go into the CWM menu. From there you can restore your backup (if you made one) or mount the SD card and put the (rom).zip file in your SD card. Then just flash the zip from the CWM.
The update process by LG is pathetic. Many a times, I had the same problem as you. It would just get stuck. It is because of faulty drivers on their part, unable to maintain a connection with the phone.
You can try to NVflash clockwork mod recovery (CWM) and then recover your data.
i have the same problem.
i've tried everything without luck.
mine stopes att 4 procent and pc is trying to install some new device
lge mobile composite usb device.
there is no way to work around this issue.
i have tried absolutly everything.
wipe, clean, drivers this that. hard reset, variations in installing, i don't know what else i can do,
this is the message that cousing all of this.
this is located just in upgrade mode
the device is called
LGE mobile composite usb device
Universal Serial Bus controllers
LG Electronics Inc.
Location : Port_#0001.Hub_#0004
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)
Thanks for the infos. I managed to install a stock rom and baseband with SmartFlash yesterday. Just a few minutes ago I used LG's update tool to update the phone to Gingerbread.
So, problem solved. If anyone has the same problem, follow these instructions to update the baseband:

You can get stock roms from here:

Computer won't recognise O2X in APX-mode

Hi, i'm trying to root my stock LG Optimus 2X v20d Gingerbread with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327599
I'm unable to connect to the computer in APX-mode. I tried connecting to the CPU at the front and the back (port on the motherboard) and whenever i tried to connect my Optimus 2X, nothing happens when i pressed both vol up+down when connecting to computer. I've been disconnecting and connecting the USB device over and over again but to no avail. Tried switching out the USB cables also did not work. No prompt to install the drivers appeared. I'm also unable to find any APX-related devices in Device Manager.
I have tried to list hidden devices in Device Manager to check if there's any APX-related drivers too, but still, to no avail.
I'm really out of ideas here. Can anyone help?
[EDIT] To add-on, i previously used MIUI before reverting back to stock froyo and then upgraded to stock gingerbread via LG's update tool. The reason is, my computer won't detect my MIUI in USB storage mode, but i remember that my MIUI'd Optimus 2X did connect to the computer as APX-mode before.
Did you remove the battery first? Won't work unless you do.

Yes i did. I took out everything (battery, sdcard, simcard).

This should mean that the APX-driver already is installed, so in theory you should be able to skip step 2.
If however there's no "NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile devices"-device visible then indeed APX-mode is not recognized.
Just to make sure you can try to do it on another computer and see if that registers an unknown device. If it does not, then well, something is broken.
Problem solved, rooted!
Woah, i nearly gave up until i decided to gave one last try to root this phone today. It worked!
Turns out that the connecting at the front works too (well, at least for me). This time, i only took out the battery (left the simcard/sdcard) in the phone and connected the USB cable to the O2X, and a pop up on APX appeared!

Bricked lg ob pls help!

im a new owner of LG Optimus Black. i updated it via LG Mobile support it was smooth. then i tried updating it to v20O coz mine got v20f. when i flash it using smart flash tool, in the middle of the update i got an error message, i tried it so many time. 10x i guess until it turns off and nothing happens. when i put the USB cable still nothing happens. black screen, no light. literally its OFF. also the S/W mode is unable to access. unlike before i flash the v20O update. what should i do to make my OB back in life again? any help? i'll be more thank you if you could help me. thanks in advance! more power!
If you cant acces s/w mode.
Service center it is
try again to get into the mode S / W upgrade and remove the battery still hold the Volume + button while connected via USB cable to your PC if LG OB mod S / W upgrade not , then only repair service: (
I had the same problem. I reinstaled lg drivers, than enter in s/w mode and connect but by other usb. After that reflash by smartflash using stock rom. Should be ok. I think. After that you can root the rom and instal cwm for flash by zip files with other roms. Ofcourse if you can enter in s/w mode. If yes, you can fix yours problem.

Try plug in other USB
Reinstall lg USB drivers
restart the system
when processing, don't move the cable or don't allow loose connection of USB cable.
Finally, this is the way, If it fails, go to service center
Install software updater tool from LG web site.
Before it take back up memory card to PC
Delete lg driver and install again
Restart PC
Remove battery of your mobile and refit it but not try to switch on.
(Veryfy that battery full charge at least 60 percent.)
Start LG updater tool it is called ( b2c app ) on your PC
Now
Keep one end of cable to LG mobile and keeping pressed the volume up key insert the another end to PC. The phone must show software Update mod on screen. Or some problem in driver or something
But one thing required is broad band internet necessary.
The b2c will detect your mobile.
There is an option for recovery phone
select it and it will ask inside and serial number
Only individual Number you can input and Press check
Wait wait wait
Some warning message appear
Click yes.
Wait the PC to download necessary files from net
And it will flash the software to mobile
Wait to complete the process
And its all
It should work
Best of luck
Pl ask if any doubt.

Update failed - black screen!

I tried to update my LG P880 with LGMobile support tool yesterday.
After connecting the phone, I clicked on Start updating. A window popped up, telling me that it was downloading.
When it came to the update part, it lost connection with the phone. I did exactly as it said I should do (unplug, take out battery and put in in again, turn on the phone and connect it to the pc), and it restarted with the updating.
On about the same point as last time, the pc lost the connection with the phone. I did the same as last time, but now, the phone just doesn't boots into the S/W update screen.
The phone is NOT booting, NOT working to flash kdz, and it is NOT detectet as a phone, neither by the pc nor the LGMobile support tool, but my pc detects a device called APX when I connect the phone to the pc.
What can I do? And what is wrong?

LGMobile support tool needs the phone to be in normal mode (generaly...).
No SW or other, just turn ON your phone and connect it to PC.

Take out the battery, wait 30 sec. and put it back, press vol- and connect to PC while pressing.
Nothing is working
I don't get the SW upgrade screen when connecting to PC, the phone is an "Unknown device" og named APX under device manager, and the KDZ program cannot find the device.
Is it any other tings I can try?
so if its apx, you can simple flash it via APX mode with nvflash, right ?
(i remember when i rooting my Optimus 2X via APX , that flashed prerooted system.img... so you can try this method)

No. That just leads me to the LG Mobile Support tool, and it can't do anything.
Did you try to get SW upgrade with battery in? (I had the same problem)
Yes.
I have tried both with the battry in the phone and taken it out
