[Q] CM7 wont let me flash another rom - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

have been running my captivate on CM7 with Glitch v13 for a while, and having a lot of force close, and sometimes lockups, so decided to try the new Fasty III KK4 rom, the rom is supposed to have Corn kernel built in.
Well everytime I try to flash the zip in CWM, it says successfully installed please reboot, I reboot and it still show the Glitch boot images, and just sits at that screen for 10+ minutes.
I tried flashing just Corn kernel v7.06, says it finished, still reboots with Glitch logo.
I formatted data and cache, tried factory resets, cleared kernel, cleared dalvik, but it still seems the same everytime.
I was able to successfully flash the Glitch v13.1 update, and re-flash CM7, but I still cant seem to flash any other rom or kernel - any ideas?

CM Roms use a different file system than Samsung based roms (Fasty, Legend, Saurom, etc).
You will need to flash back to a stock image so that it will repartition your device back to the Samsung format. After that you can Odin/Heimdall/CWM flash to your new ROM.

thanks -I had a feeling it was something like that.

[Q] illuminace install issue

I tried to install the illuminance Rom last night, and it kept getting stuck at the ATT logo. I reflashed back to stock did a master clear, flashed a stock 2.3.5 uckj3 gingerbread Rom with corn kernel v307 also ATT gingerbread boot loaders. I used CWM to install the ROM, it'll restart then get stuck and get stuck at the ATT logo....is there something I'm missing? I've installed other ROM and have had no issues until now?!?!
If you used Corn kernel, are you sure you where on RFS format and not ex4?
it was rfs format before I tried to install
Did you make the file (don't remember exactly wich) that disable Voodoo. There is no reason for it to bootloop. After you flashed stock did you let it boot up? Maybe try with Boog kernel to flash then flash wich ever kernel you want to use?
I'll try the boog kernel.....I also ensured that the lagfix for system and data was disabled through CWM recovery ....in the install instructions it stated that it would take awhile to boot, I let it set for two hours. One thing I noticed is that 150 jpegs were installed

Doubt this might be it but, If you set it on CWM to disable lag fix reboot in cwm then flash. Random thought.
LOL....did that also.

My boot getting stuck got fixed after Wipe data/factory reset in CWm, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik cache, - all three -then install illuminance. Tried that ? Starting from stock KJ3 no bootloaders.
Importantly: Can you boot with just Illuminance boog kernel (the one that comes wiht the ROM, no other kernel flashed)? I presume you cannot boot a fresh Illuminance install............if this is the case wiping as above should help.
I finally got illuminance to install, and is working great.
this may seem like over kill but everytime I flash a new ROM I start from scratch and flash to stock and master clear and then build from therethis is the first time that I ever had any issues by doing it this way. usually I have it setup up in 10 to 15 minutes it seems to save any issues later down the road as far as being buggy.
Glad to hear it
Hi, I tried to install Illuminance 1.1, but I think the file is corrupted. I downloaded it twice, from different locations, and its the same zip file.
I tried to decompress it before installing it, just to check file consistency, but lots of files can´t be decompressed.
Anyone had this problem? If not, any way /any where to safely download it?
Thanks!
In the Illuminance Rom Thread, in the OP, there is a link to IlluminatedOne's website, where u can find a good non-corrupted download and u will also find the installation instructions.
Not sure why u think u had a corrupted download ?? But u should b good to go once u get to the website.
As of this version 1.1 release, u should only be downloading the Illuminance Rom from said website.

I downloaded my version from Mega-upload. I tried it again last night just for...you know....and received the same results of being stuck on the att logo for hours. as usual i flashed to stock and master cleared, GB boot loaders, reinstalled stock 2.3.5 and reinstalled luminance and before i rebooted i installed the samurai kernel, then rebooted and everything worked as normal....so being fairly new to the whole Dev scene i don't know why that would make a difference, but it works fine and it didn't get stuck on the att logo.
oh and thanks twin I'll try and go to the website and check it out

Upgrade to ICS stuck in boot loop...

Trying to install the Cynogen ICS ROM, and when installing the .zip, it loads the Samsung flash screen with Cynogen, then get the green guy and loads of text for about half a second, then it just reboots. Over and over for about 10 mins. WHat went wrong? What should I do?
It happend the same to me.
I just removed the battery and put it back, entered in CWM and reinstalled the ROM.
Good luck!
I somehow got into a recovery mode, but with the assumption it would all go wrong again, tried to install the .zip Darky rom instead, went through the process and said it worked but then it just went back to the Cynogen loop problem!? I just tried a Restore instead, but I haven't rebooted yet, should I wipe everything again, and try the ICM .zip again?
Yep, just go with the whipe. I hope you did a backup.
OK turns out the Restore failed, so now trying to reinstall ICS .zip again. fingers crossed!
yep backed it up, not that its seems to have helped.
Well now it's stuck in the Galaxy S bootscreen...
that really sucks....did you deactivated the lagfix before running the rom?
If the problem persists you have to run a basic ROM using ODIN.
Yes deactivated the lagfixI can't get into recovery or anything now, except download mode.
Download mode is all you need to run a ROM with Odin.
I recommend Amestris, it is a good ROM, good battery life but the thread in not complete, there are some files missing...for now.
I've put some older ROM on I had, then tried to install ICS again but now when I use Clockwork, and select the file it goes to recovery but I can't select any zip files, just reboot back to this awful old ROM!
I had same issue when I installed ics, what I did that worked was pull battery and go back into cwm, reflashed ics zip and it fully installed that time. Had same experience when flashing cm7 before.
Not getting anywhere with this. I get an option to install zip from sdcard which is where the update is (an where the darky update also is which worked), but there is an option to update from internal SD, which is not where the file is. Is it in the wrong place?
I think you would be best to use Odin 1.3 to flash DarkyROM Ficeto JVT base rom.
are you sure those files are still on your sd card?
The reason you need to pull the battery and reflash the ICS rom a few times is because Samsung ROM (most) have a different partition layout to CM7 based roms (which the ICS port is one).

[Q] Phone is Bootlooping from reinstalling ROM, Help Please

Hey,
so I just tried to reinstall Doc's Master ICS V12. Wiped Cache, Data and Dalvik. I was already running V12, and so I had all the prior requirements to flash it. I wanted a clean install as it was starting to lag though. However, this time, I made the mistake of formatting the system AFTER I flashed, and now it's bootlooping. It flashes the Samsung logo, then the Icy Glitch (kernel) logo, then shows a brief script in CWM and then keeps repeating this pattern. I tried to three button combo to boot back to recovery, but it's not working (I recall it working way back). Is there any other way that I can get back to recovery?
[Edit] Got it to work, delete please!

Unable To Flash New ROM Or Kernel

So I got a Galaxy Note running the Ultimate Jelly Bean ROM. In other words, that was the ROM on the phone when I got it.
I wanted to install CM9 on the phone, so I went and grabbed the HydraCore kernel. The phone was already running Philz kernel, as the Recovery indicated.
Now, when I tried to install the new kernel, the update would begin, then nothing would happen. A short while later, the phone would reboot back to the ROM.
I tried this several times.
Next, I tried to wipe the ROM to flash CM9. Again, the phone would stop on the update, then reboot to the Ultimate Jelly Bean ROM.
I even tried the built-in ROM-wipe feature in the Recovery; the same thing happened yet again.
Then I tried to flash the HydraCore kernel through Odin. The flash was successful, and the phone boots up (with this triangle I just learned about), but won't boot the Ultimate ROM.
I can still reach the Recovery, though this time, the phone kinda hangs in the middle of attempted updates.
I am lost on what to do next! Please help!
The phone won't boot because hydracore is not compatible with ultimate rom. Doesn't matter. As you can now get into recovery, and assuming you have the CM9 rom in the phone, go to mounts and storage
Format /system, data, cache, preload
Go back and install zip. Choose the rom and let it install. Try and let know.

[Q] Stuck at boot screen after wiping

I installed CM 10 stable and Semaphore Kernel. Worked great. Then went to install gapps and got lots of FC's so I went on to clean cache, dalvik and to do a factory reset and suddenly I got stuck at semaphore/boot logo and couldn't go into recovery. Got the recovery fix and installed it via Odin, and it works. But, it doesn't allow me to install anything from external SD card, only internal. Of course, I don't have anything there.
What should I do? Any links for tar versions of CWM and CM 10 for i9000?
Hmmm, is it safe to assume everything will be OK if I just flash any stock firmware from sammobile?
Yup, that combined with this did the trick.
