Hi everyone, i'm currently using Nova v7 (yes V7, i was too lazy to upgrade from 7 to 8, cuz i had alot of apps installed... wtv )
My question is, how can i go from Nova v7, to GB ? without brick my OB.
i would appreciate if u could tell me in detail cuz im still a newbie on this things, like if i need erecovery, CWM or any of that.
appreciate the time spent,
best regards
ruibullseye
If you're not from Korea theb GB isn't out yet, except CM7. You need to wait a few days for the official to come out.
And if you want CM (nightly), then flash it from CMW doing a full data, cache, dalvik wipe before flashing (maybe after too).

yeah i know its not out yet.
i mean when LG release GB

Connect your phone to the PC, install the LG Phone software that came with the phone, and use the software update feature. Simple as that. Please note however that GB *is not released yet* so don't ask when it will be released as nobody knows anything else other than "soon".

You can use KDZ method or LG Software Updater (B2CApp)
Remember to make full wipe before flashing or you'll get a bootloop.

im sorry for being so annoying,
but can u guys take some time and explain me in detail, step by step what i must do when android 2.3 is release for my LG OB?
im really new at this things and dont wanna brick my dear fone *.*.
once more, appreciate all the time spent helping me out
u guys are the best
best regards,
ruibullseye
Hey ruibullseye, better then asking here is if you use the search and some of your time to learn stuff. Almost all the usual OB fw upgrade/change questions are already answered in this subforum. Same for most problems you might get into. I started using android phone about a month ago. Following the forum around i can say it only took me about 5-6 hours to get familiar with the basic hacks for this phone. And also unbricking procedures and emergecy stuff, which i needed...twice. you cannot avoid it, it will happen to you at least once...
The truth is out there. Use search. ;-) if any issues, ask. But be sure to read the rules before posting.
Cheers.
Sent from my LG-P970 using XDA App
Ok,since noone simplyy answers the question, i will. Even though u are right that learning by doing is still the best way... but why brick the phone? To find a way to unbrick and recover everything?
Well first i suggest u backup everything with titanium backup(can get it in store) then i first bootet into recovery, then did a full, davlic and battstats wipe, returned to menu, chose backup and restore and simply restored froyo. Then reboot and everything is fine and u can keep checking for updates. This is the procedure i chose, which surely is not the best and fastest, but the savest for me. Hope u understand my english and also have success ;-)
And sorry, because I didnt see some of the advices you gave to him, or I just found em to superficial, so I posted a guid, which as I think can even be understood by a complete NOOB
Hi everyone,
I still have Nova v7 on my Optimus Black.
But im thinking about changing to Gingerbread, and install Marvel v5.
Can someone, take some time and explain me in detail what i need to do to make that happen?
Note that my erecovery, CWM and all that stuff, is still from the time when i installed NOVA v7.
Im really a noob, on this things. i dont know what erecovery, and CWM and all that stuff are for .
another question, any way to save my games and data that are on the phone and not on SDCARD? (or do i need to format SD CArd aswell )?
Appreciate the time spent,
best regards,
ruibullseye

See I also have got that problem, of not being able to stay kind, but mostly (at least I hope so) I think back, how it was, when I was a total NQQB. Then I always remember, how cool it was, when some1 guided me step by step and giving me links, information, or whatever I needed... Think back of the first days of yours here... Didnt you also feel like: "WDF? WDF? WDF? What do I have to to? WDF? Dont understand...? What's that mean? Can someone explain? Am I really so much of a noob? I thought I understand a lot of computers, but now I feel like a complete idiot... How should I EVER get a custom ROM to my device? "
Those were my thoughts a few months ago... And now see all my posts, how to's and so on here... The main thing is: Stay cool, help out as good as you can, dont flame, cause 1 day you ll need help too and be thankful for a kind advice, that is being given.
So guide that man kindly to his goal (or whatever you call it) and feel happy, cause you really helped some1 out.
I just couldnt reply longer, cause I had to learn meanwhile and my traffic was full, so I had to ask my neighbor, to share his WIFI with me
and what about my data i have on my phone (not SDCARD)
anyway to retrieve that?
BTw N00B THANKS ALOT FOR ALL YOUR HELP SO FAR, and Straight answers. =D
Hope you made a nandroid, like suggested in my NOOB HOW TO... :-/ Backup everything with titanium Backup. This is gonna save all settings, game data, sms, contacts,... contacts can also be saved by syncing with googlemail, or other accounts, or you export them to the sdcard (go to contacts --> menu button --> export TO SDCARD/USIM) or with the LG app (LG Suite i think it is called).
Hope you didnt delete everything already...
Oh and there is a thanks button below the posts

Calm down. We are becoming a lazy bunch i tell ya that. Nobody wants to read. They just wants answers imidiately. That's no problem, someone will always help. What i can't stand is, never saying "thank you" people. If somebody helps you a simple thank you should be in order. Nobody gets paid for helping....
And don't forget the times you were a noob, desperately looking for help. So always help others.
Before all that READ people, You can not believe what i've learned in a month by simply reading.
just a quick question for a quick answer.
Basicly Marvel v5. its already a Gingerbread rom right?
because i was thinking that i needed to install the official 2.3 to be able to install MArvel.
No, you can directly flash marvel, zeus,... no need to up or downgrade before, except you flash a stock rom, without ext4 file support

Firstly I apologize as I have found this being asked before, but not in these circumstances. I am new to android being a long time iphone user. I now have a N7000 that I used PC Odin to flash LPY. I have noticed all of the concerns over bricking and with my lack of knowledge I am thinking I should flash a custom rom to avoid these issues.
My question is which is a good rom to go with, ICS (Such as kingdroid 2.0 or something GB?) More accurately what is the best process? I am currently not rooted. I am ignorant to android and I have noticed a steep learning curve making the transition. I explain this to help understand why I am asking this question.
I have attempted to search, and I have browsed Dr. Ketan's thread, and I still cant find a good answer. I just don't want to have a bricked phone trying to get to a custom rom. Any help or suggestions is highly appreciated.
Should I root it first then use CWM to switch to another rom?
What custom roms are recommended for easy use out of the box?
Another quite simple question is if I saved all of my contacts to google are they currently synced, as in if I switch to another rom they will still be accessible?

What I would do if I were in your place: I'd revert to rooted GB like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25285584&postcount=3
then I'd flash one of the CM9-based Roms, because they are the only truly safe ICS Roms ATM, and these are
1. official CM9
2. Asylum
3. Paranoid
4. MIUI
5. KANG
Also, your contacts are safe with Google, and you can restore them in no time at all.

Thanks for your response, when you say revert to a rooted GB is that the process through PC odin? Also does it need to be one of the safe roms? It seems the problem stems from a wiping command?
Hello!
Yes , use pc odin to revert back to gb, i did so, i used an prerooted stock gb .
Then follow chasmodos guides to go to ics again.
One more thing, to back up my apps so they are there on the new rom do I have to be rooted?

yes !! to use app like Titanium Backup !
or since you probably downloaded all apps from Google Play Market
then when u install your new firmware/rom you can simply download all of them from google play(but u lose the data of those apps )

well it's not entirely incorrect.
correct me if im wrong, but the majority of custom roms out there have cap_erase removed which means people can factory reset safely.
the bricks usually occur if people wipe on a stock samsung rom, where cap_erase ISN'T removed.
so if you're on a custom rom, and you flash another custom rom, assuming both roms had cap_erase removed, it shouldn't be a problem right?

You haven't done a lot of reading have you? Look for it in the General section, especially topics for eMMC and 'Entrophy'
Wiping be it on custom or stock doesn't guarantee any safeties at all. even using CMW is a no no. If your custom rom has an infected kernel (that comes with it), fully wiping after flashing your phone ensures you a deadweight one after that.
It only takes one single full wipe to brick your phone, and it takes a load of hell to fix it.

how do you generalize your advice to all the people your giving it? do you ask for their kernel first before telling them to fully wipe their NOTE?
Your playing a russian roulette dude. People would misunderstand your advice generally. There a lot of custom ROMS out there. Most often than not, its carrying an infected kernel. People who just scans and see your advice would tantamount to follow it to a tee (w/o telling you the full details of their kernel) and WHAM!! they get their phone brick!
There are already to many people asking help here... PLEASE don't add it more with your senseless advice!

For someone who just registered this month, you surely got a lot of nerve!.
I've flash a lot of custom roms before you ever had gone here in Xda-dev dude. Don't divert me into clicking on that link.. been there done that. get it?
My advice to you is, before you try advising people for their problems. READ FIRST in all the stories and forum threads on our beloved Note. You will gain infos on what's causing it, and how to resolve and prevent it from ever happening it again.
So tip of advice, don't go all around the forum in advicing people to fully wipe their phone after flashing any roms. STOCK or CUSTOM.

Hi Akilesh,
Yeah, no problem. Regarding your cleanote rom q, hmm that I'm not sure how long it takes to boot though. You may need to address that question my friend to the appropriate Cleanote note thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716088
I've ended my quest in flashing custom roms already... eversince this brick bug came and wreck some lives off some people.
By the way, always make sure whenever you need to wipe things, it is better you have a safe kernel installed beforehand.
Like I've said getting the Super brick bug is just like playing a russian roulette. You'll never know when and how you got the brick, so take necessary precautions on how to prevent it

Yeah he did wipe it but he was already using a safe kernel. My point is, don't just blurt out to people to wipe anythng without asking them some additional necessary infos. It is okay to wipe and I'm not against that (if your using a safe kernel already). What I am against is the wrong notion in giving advices to WIPE your phone PERIOD.. Without even clarifying other infos at hand.

I'm sorry if I can't answer your cleanote question bud. Like I've said. I stopped changing /flashing custom Roms after the onset of this superbrick bug issue. Im all on stock 4.0.4 firmware now.
Anyway, it's all nice and dandy feeling that everything has been fix already in your end.

I also want to flash cleanote rom and i am currently waiting on an updated version of that rom with the latest notecore kernel. I'm on stock 4.0.4 also and will use the PC Odin method to flash notecore kernel to root and then triangle away for binary reset. Then finally go with mobile Odin/PC Odin to flash the rom. After hours of reading threads, this seems to be a safest way to do it.

I dont know how many times I have posted this and how many times other people have said this(its even a rule I think). BUT YOU NEVER EVER ASK WHAT ROM IS BEST!!!! There are too many roms out there. They all have their pros and cons. They all are diffrent on every phone and we all have diffrent user experience. Asking what is best is the same thing as going in a bar with drunk people and asking what is the best drink(words from a mod)!

Firstly, i just want to be quick with my friend phone, so that's why i'm asking. Be clear in that statement.
Second, i know about there are so many rom, but since i'm in rush, so i don't have much time to try on every single rom here. It's not mine after all. I don't want it to be bricked, since i'm a samsung user, not sony.
I still having problem to install cwm, since it's very differ to my galaxy tab.
Third, i just need suggestion. No need to bash me up. Even you're a mod. I respect all people, but please respect me too.
Btw, thanks to those who answering, i'll try your suggestion. Thanks a lot
