So what exactly is wrong with your phone right now? is it up and running and you just want to get 2e installed?? or is your phone dead? anyways, easiest way to do it is grab a copy of Odin, then grab a copy of hardcore's speedmod kernel, open odin, put your phone into download mode, plug your phone in, make sure odin finds it, click the pda button, locate the speedmod kernel.tar file and click ok, then click start, it will be very fast and it will flash a new kerel on your phone.
ive been needing to flash 2e recovery too. is it ok to just flash the pda?

Download either hardcores kernel or chainfires cf root kernel flash using odin by putting kernel in pda.
sounds nice and simple. ill do the odin way. op, you can also try the sgs kernal flasher app found in this forum and never touch a computer
1. install sgs kernal flasher
2. flash a kernal which includes 2e
3. ????
4. profit!

right now i have a different problem. i have tried to instal darkys and it starts the instal then fails at line 96 any ideas on this at all? thanks for the help its really appreciated
all sorted now cheers guys n thanks alex as your sgs kernel app fixed my issues i was having and ive now installed darkys succesfully n now have a super fast phone again
Hi Guys! so first of all, i'm not a total newbie and i have been searching the forum and been googling like crazy trying to figure this out and now i have to turn to you hoping to solve this...
okay, i have rooted my girlfriends SGS I9000 with superoneclick root, got superuser and all is well there, but i still only get android recovery no CWM..? So whats up with that? do i download latest CWM and just flash it using android recovery? or is this a faulty root and i must try something else?
Read somewhere i had to flash a new kernel to get CWM?
Any help from you guys would be highly appreciated!
Why dont u try using odin??
Cheers

You have to choose one of the available recoverys for i9000 and flash one of these via Odin
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
The easiest way to root it is to download and flash 2.3.6 jw5 (if not present) using Odin and flash cf-root kernel, you'll get the cwm recovery too.
Thanks for reply
i will unroot the phone again and root using odin and cf root... i am going to install custom ROM straight after, so i am not going to update to 2.3.6 from 2.3.3...
*update*
Worked like a charm! now i have CWM... First time i used Odin actually and it is MUCH faster than this oneclickroots out there! So thank you all for the help.
hey guys. my friend has a rogers samsung captivate I896 running stock 2.3.3 . since he saw how i installed custom rom on my xperia play i thought i would install ics for him. i found this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592141 . i am just wondering if i have to flash a ics kernel like how i have to do with my fone. or can i just follow the exact instructions in the link.
i might sound like a noob its just because im not used to samsungs and i recently softbricked my phone because somebody who posted a rom for my fone never mentioned having to flash a kernel, and i dont want that to happen with his
thx in advance guys
yup, root with super one click and install CWM through Rom manager app in the Play store.
You may run into recovery 3e problems, where your install of update.zip gets denied because of signature verification failure; where, in that case you will need to use Odin to flash a kernel with CWM included.
let me know if you have any problems.
so first i try to flash without kernel? and if it gets denied i use odin and flash kernel then go back to CWM flash zip?
Why not just use TRusselo's Guide ?? ---- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19425513&postcount=1

Yes, just like in the Guide link above... with speedmod kernel.
Took me almost two days to figure this out, cannot post in development forum, so here it is:
Problem:
"old rooting files" are not working with newer ICS stock rom, tried with all the here for Tab 8.9 existing guides.
Solution:
Took the root file from the (almost similar) Tab 10.1 for ICS from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1807219 which has a link to this file:
http://www.shabbypenguin.com/users/...alaxytab10.1/Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip
Installed it with cwm recovery 5.5.0.8 (install zip file from sdcard)
and it finally worked on the 8.9 running 4.0.4 ics stock (UK/European Version)!
Combined with the a1 1.7.3 overclocking kernel, the tab now works like a charm
overclocked with app "voltage control" to 1400 Mhz.
edit: this is for model p7300/p7310 (tegra 2 versions) only
Thanks for your efforts.

Has anyone given this method a try with i957? Would kill to get this thing debloated...
success with the superuser installed but no root.
Anyone know why I can't get root? The superuser is installed but no root access.
I've used ClockworkMod_Recovery_v5.5.0.4.tar with samsung_galaxy_tab_10.1_root.zip file.
this is on P7310 with ICS 4.0.4
thanks i got the root access without any issues

Perhaps you should use another root tool. I used a busybox.zip-file.. Just flash it the same way; via CWM (install zip from sd-card)
The file is in the attachments
And if this doesn't work either, you might wanna update your CWM version first, before you flash the root tool. I have it attached as well. Updating CMW is done the same way as flashing a root tool, so: launch CMW 5 and install the CMW6.0.0.8.zip from sd-card.
Here you go!
do we need to have kies installed to flash odin or not?

No. Just the Samsung drivers which kies will install. Then forget about kies. It's a pos. And you don't flash odin. It resides on your PC. You flash with odin.

Are these for P7300 with 4.0.4?
is there anyone with p7310 tegra 2 successly rooted with method above? Please share information and step thx
You can try with Superoneclick2.3.3 - should work fine.
Or you can install CWM first with Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312218
And then copy root.original.zip over to
SD-card. Turn off device. Go into recovery mode with power on+volume down (don't choose download mode)
and flash root.original there.
are you sure superoneclick are proven to work? Because a failed root attempt using superoneclick usually make tablet slow and need to hard reset
Have no idea. If in doubt flash cwm with odin and then root.

Is this working ? Is there another way to root SGH i957 running ICS ?
Thank you
Hi guys, I am looking for some help with this. I have tried the superoneclick way and the program hangs and does not complete. I have also tried the other way, using the odin flashable CWM 5.5.0.4, but when I install it and boot into recovery, the option screen scrools so fast that I cannot see what I am selecting in order to load the root file.
Can anyone tell me if this is a known issue with this version of CWM? Does anyone know of another odin flashable version of CWM that I could try?
Thanks in advance!

Hey, its a P7310 running stock UK ICS firmware. I double checked the setup and it turns out I was using a different version of ODIN (3.07), so maybe that is the reason?

Maybe it's odin. I've always used 1.85 but others have had luck with ver 3. Try to reflash cwm with 1.85. And make sure cwm is for the p7310. To root I've always flashed super su-busy box thru recovery.

unfortunately yes! u'll lose root. but u should search for CF-ROOT to flash via odin after flashing the stock rom. follow the instructions on flashing very carefully, and u wont brick ur device anymore. i hope this helps u. happy flashing!
thanks alot!
and if my friend has a stock rom and i backup it via recovery and then flash it on my device..is it possible? i will lose my root?
