Hey everyone, just wondering if any of you have tried the following adapter with the GTab 8.9 running any of the ICS ROMs here?
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005TJPFBG...nd=1558900045337797238&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=
This reader allows you to plug into the connector on the GTab and insert an SDCard into the reader to transfer files.
The only thing I can't figure out is how to "properly" remove it. Under the stock ROM (3.2), a notification came up that said you could tap it to safely remove USB storage device. Under ICS, no such notification comes up. If you pull the adapter, a warning comes up telling you "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped." A notification also comes up in the status bar stating "USB storage unexpectedly removed - Unmount USB storage before removing to avoid data loss".
Soooo - HOW do you unmount it prior to removal??
I am using the Galaxian Soup B35 ROM - but I don't think it makes a difference (I think that the same thing happened using a recent CM9 ROM too, but I am not absolutely certain).
NOTE: It does say "Preparing USB storage" briefly upon insertion of the adapter.

Sorry about that!

under settings, U will find a sub menu named storage, just eject the expected media by touch the "unmount"

Hi all
I rooted my phone today. I then installed clockworkmod and saved a stock backup. Following that, I successfully enabled 3 button recovery.
My problem appeared either after rooting or after clockworkmod. The problem was there prior to enabling 3 button recovery. I suspect it was clockworkmod that caused the problem.
Anyway, when I connect the phone to the computer the 16gb internal sd card & 2gb phone storage appear as removable drives in 'my computer'. However, double clicking on the drives gives the message 'no disk in the drive, please insert one'. Windows can't read the usable file space, browse or even format the drives.
However, I can browse the internal sd card fine using any android file manager.
Also, I can use adb to push/pull files.
What is going on?
I need to know quite quickly what to do. I initiated a phone repair with my carrier due to the mtp crash bug, so they are expecting it to be returned pronto. If the phone is stuffed, I'll send it back. If this can be fixed, I'll keep it since I managed to get the three button recovery working.
Also, I think there's a boot rom or something to do with clockworkmod still installed? How do I get rid of that if I'm sending the phone back. I know how to unroot.
Edit: I just found an external sd card to test. I formatted it in windows by using a sd card reader, then when I plugged it into the phone and tried it as a mass storage device windows didnt like it. Putting it back into the card reader one last time and windows recognised it. Makes no sense....
Edit2: In kies mode, kies can access it. And also it adds a 'galaxy s' to my computer where the internal sd card actually works... now I'm even more confused!
Have you tryed formatting your internal Sd or useing recovery 2e and factory resetting your phone?
I've tried formatting it and reset via settings->privacy->factory reset data.
Is 3 button recovery any different to the above type of reset? What will it roll the system back to?
(The recovery image I made in rom manager will have the same problem. I dont currently have an update.zip on my sd card due to formatting it, but I can get one on there using adb if I need to.)

Is your usb debugging on by chance? If so, turn it off ans reconnect the phone to the pc.
Mine does this when usb debugging is on and im on a stock eclair rom... Hope it helps...

That thought occurred to me too. Definately off. Ive checked it many many times now
When I first used adb, I simply pulled the plug out. I couldn't see any 'quit debug' command. There are start/kill server commands, they dont seem appropriate. Doesnt look like I should have had to do anything other than just pull the cable out.
Update:
I think that the update.zip's applied to my phone have changed some software to an earlier version that what my unit was shipped with.
When I first got the phone, I just plugged it into the pc and selected 'mass storage' on the phone. The drives then appeared (and worked) in windows.
Now, I have to click mass storage. That on its own isnt enough. But if I pull-down the tray menu at the top of the screen, there is another option to click (something along the lines of 'select this to transfer files between your phone and pc'). If I click that, it works.
There are some slight differences still:
1) I could swear that my phone originally allowed access to the 2gb phone internal memory (I never tried reading/writing to it, but I'm convinced windows displayed a 2gb drive).
2) I used to get the "xx/13.4gb free" under the drive letter in 'my computer', which I now only get in the status bar at the bottom of windows file explorer.
QUESTION
Does everybody else have to click "mass storage mode" AND pull down the task bar and click "transfer files" to get the internal sd to work as mass storage in windows?
Or do they just have to click "mass storage mode" and that's all?
Thanks
I always had to pull down the menu and manually mount the sd card when using mass storage.

Definately wasnt the case on my phone (bought mid october, so its quite new) because I got my music on there via mass storage twice before 'hacking' it. I couldn't have done that without knowing about the extra buttons to press. It's good to know that it's just a side effect of the update.zips I've applied, and that I get to keep the phone
Cheers
Guys
I have a wierd problem with the usb connections in Froyo 2.2 version. Each time I try to connect my galaxy to computer, I am seeing 2 different drives on my computer but they are inaccessible. So I went to the USB connection from the homescreen roll out and then clicked "connect to usb" button. Normally, after clicking that button, I should get a pop up window to ask if I a want to mount the sdcard or not. Unfortunately, I am not getting that dialogbox and I am not able to mount the sdcards at all. Instead, I am having only the option to turn off usb. By doing this, my camera starting working perfectly. But if I restart my mobile for any reason, then both the internal and external card memories and camera are getting inaccessible.
Although I have inserted a 16gb of external memory card, because of these issues I am not able to access that as well. The mount SD card menu and is not working at all. Any help to resolve the above isssu is highly appreciated.
I am currently on Factory rom with following specifications.
Baseband Version I9000DXJPB,
Firware Version - 2.2;
Kernel version - 2.6.32.9 root-at-SE-S604 #1;
Build Number : FROYO.DXJPE
Although this is a basic problem that most of the galaxy owners must be experiencing it I couldnt find the right anwer anywhere on the net.
So Droidbraines out there - please help me.
Regards
vbrsekhar

Does anyone know how to make CM7 always mount both emmc and the 4th sdcard partition when you use the "Turn on USB storage" option that comes up when you plug the Nook into the computer.
I know you can do it by hand like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12102365&postcount=153
I also know that you can use:
Nook Color USB Mass Storage Utility App:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456
But how do you make it automatic when ever you press the button?
I have modified my stock emmc /system/etc/vold.conf and it now mounts the 4th partition automatically when booting stock.
Using the same SD card partition for eMMC and SD booting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942181
Once this is fixed everything will be perfect and i can pick and choose which way to boot.

Everything you are talking about is for Rooted Eclair (stock).
There is no "Turn on USB Storage" or "press the button" in CM7 when you connect the USB cable...
Generally, people use the Utility if they want to mount anything more than the default.

Running: CyanogenMod-7-04012011-NIGHTLY-encore
Actually when you plug a cable into your Nook when running CM7 you get a notification of "USB Connected - Select to copy files to/from your computer." If you select it you get a picture of a little Android guy with a USB arm and the words:
USB Connected
You have connected your phone to your computer via USB. Select the button below if you want to copy files between your computer and your Android's SD card.
At the bottom of the screen is a button that says: Turn on USB Storage.
This button is what I am trying to get to mount the 4th sdcard partition as well as the emcc partition. Like I said I made the changes on the emcc Eclair side and I know how to do it manually. I just was trying to figure out IF you can do it with that button.
I am going to bump this once to see if anyone has any idea.
Thanks...
Hello. This is my first post, but I have been a reader for a while. I recently bought Samsung Galaxy Note. Rooted it using the ZergRush exploit and installed CriskeloROM v0.6.
It worked perfect for a week, but then something wierd happened.
On my way to work I got out of the door and opened spotify as usual, but the screen just blinked and the app didn't start. When I looked into this it seems as if the phone won't recognize the SD card.
Saying that the phone won't recognize the SD card isn't entirely true. The phone know the card is there, but it appears as full.
USB storage: Total space 11.08GB - Available space - 0.00B, not even a single byte.
When I hook the phone to a pc, I can see that I in fact have about 8GB of free space. I can also without problem browse all the files as if nothing was wrong.
The things I know I have done that might interfere with it is that the other day I was going to copy some wallpapers into my phone. To do this I was required to encrypt the disk station using BitLocker. I have also by accident disconnected my phone without dismounting.
I have done alot of searches in google and on this site, but I have yet to find someone with the exact same problem as me.
I have tried to take out the battery and leaving it out for 15 minutes.
I excuse the wall of text and my poor english.
Thank you

When you boot into recovery and mount internal SD is the info correct there?
Thanks for the answer!
When I boot into recovery, witch I thought was CWM but witch turns out to be HyperDroid RedPill Recovery, probably changed when I installed the ROM (?), I can choose
- Mount internal SD
Witch leads me away from the menu and into a new little menu.
"USB Mass Storage device. Leaving this menu unmount your SD card from you PC.
-Unmount
-+++++Go Back+++++
And that's it.
However when I try to actually do a recovery (the recovery file is in the internal SD) I get the message:
"HyperDroid RedPill Recovery
E: Unable to write to usm lunfile (No such file or directory)Error mounting /sdcard!
E:Can't mount /sdcard"
do you have an external sd card in the phone? some kernels seem to swap the internal and external about
No I do not. Thanks for the answers guys!
EDIT: Well slap me sideways and call me a salamander. I just tried restarting the nook *again* after getting out of recovery... and lo and behold, the computer recognizes it. It can see both the emmc and sdcard drives. It recognizes it as a "media device" but, oh well. At least I can swap files (hopefully).
Sorry for the troubles! This thread can be locked, deleted, burned, whisked away to the 10th level of hell, etc.

Hi all,
I've searched around the forums for "USB MOUNT" issues but couldn't find one that address my problem. Apologies in advance if this has already been answered before.
I just installed the paranoidandroid 1.6 rom, and have been running it. I really like it, and thank you to everyone who made that rom possible.
I'm experiencing a problem where the USB just doesn't mount or even detect that it's plugged into a computer. I don't see any options in the settings on this rom to deal with USB connections.
I can boot into CW recovery and mount the SD card, which works flawlessly.
I'm not sure what the issue could be. Does this rom simply not support USB connections for some reason? I couldn't find any mention in the development thread about USB not working. Unfortunately I don't have enough posts to post in the development forum, so I thought I would try here.
So just to recap: I can mount the /sdcard when I am in recovery. Computer detects the nook just fine when connected through USB, and I even have access to ADB commands and such.
When running the rom, however, USB only reports as being a power source. I get no USB connection options, no "mount storage" menu or anything. My computer, likewise, acts as if nothing has been plugged into it. No little sound or any hint that any usb device has been plugged in.
Thank you so much!
