I came from Stock GB.
Im used to flashing and wiping with CWM to my hearts content on previous Android devices and have never had a problem. But I am slightly confused to what I can or shouldn't do with CWM so I don't brick my Note.
Is there a safer kernel I should flash that will keep root access?
Can I do a full wipe in CWM prior to flashing other roms? (Im looking at trying out CM9 and a couple of AOKP roms and also a couple of Stock based roms, not Chinese leaked)
I know im probably going to get shot down for asking this and told to search - which i have done and which has just added to my confusion. Im just after a little clarification from the helpful souls here at XDA...

google is fun too!
depends on what you use your phone for, and it depends on if you are willing to deal with bugs for a while.
I would not use the gingerbread unless you have some experience flashing roms and kernals.
I am currently using Supernova2.3 with Suckerpunch #53 kernal, and I am using well under 50% battery every day even when I do alot of texting and use the phone as a tether for my laptop.
My advice is to download the AIO toolbox from the developer section, and then start flashing roms until you find one you like, then start flashing kernals until you find a combo that is right for you and your phone.
Please take the time to read the Dev and Q&A threads on each individual ROM you would be interested in using. I can recommend ROM's all day for you but that does not mean your experience will be the same as mine. YOU need to do YOUR own research and decide what you want to use. Reported for lock as these threads occur daily.
Please use the search feature.
On that note, thread closed.
Hello all! Hopefully, I put this thread in correct section. If not, please move it.
Anyway, here is my question.
I installed ROM Manager because I want to try some other ROMs on my SGS i9000 and when I want to flash the CWM Recovery, the only option I get is Google Nexus S. Is this normal? Should it show my model? Can there be any problems if I choose Google Nexus S option?

Thank you!
What ROM are you currently on ? if its a custom ROM you may have the Nexus Drivers, and that could be why it is only showing you that option.
there are many other ways of flashing a custom ROM so dont give up if ROM Manager starts acting up.
i personally prefer a flash with ODIN and all update Flashes through CWM
I recently upgraded from 2.2.1 to 2.3.3. Here you can see more info:
As far as i know, this is not a custom ROM, just leaked one. Or am I wrong? I upgraded it with ODIN too and it wasn't hard, I just think it would be even easier, if i didn't have to use the computer and could download ROMs directly on the phone.
Seems my problem is so different from others, i think.
so here are some pics of it so you can understand my problem for i can't really describe it.

Did you do ever flash using Heimdall or Odin?
I'd rather go the procedure described for installing the OVERCOME rom. - It's pretty safe and if you follow all steps, you should end up with a fully working device.

the heimdall one.. i still dont know why this happen >.<
My sister is a captivate user whose phone is having issues and getting sent in for repair. The warranty is nearly up, so I suggested she get a custom ROM afterward since it won't matter if she voids warranty, and there won't be an official ICS update.
That seems all fine and dandy, but here's the problem: She hates, and I mean HATES roms that are AOSP, and won't use anything that doesn't have Touchwiz. Strange, I know.
If there's a ROM out there that's just like the ICS that newer Samsung models got, that'd be perfect.
Also, she's not very technical, and has a lot of important stuff on her phone, so it has to be stable. For guys like us, routine backups are no problem, but she's just an average user.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm an Xperia user and have no clue about Samsung roms.

Respect developers and don't ask such questions every rom has some plus points which may or may not present on another rom go try every rom to know which suits you best

Just keep your stock ROM if you don't want to take the time and read the ops of different ROMs and see what they offer and flash and test there are many many great ROMs out there. You have to make the choice as to the one you want and works bust for your needs
