I have the option of buying and unlocked Verizon Droid 3. I understand Verizon puts blocks on bands in the US.
My question is, is there a hack to get rid of this block? (like on the Droid 2 Global and Droid Pro)
If so, is there a tutorial?
Thanks in advance!

I was at the Verizon store today and the free Bionic on display had version
5.991 on it anyone familiar with this?
Many store demos have special firmware versions that show off different selling points of the device. That's more than likely all it is.

I want the dev edition but I also want the late speeds. Does anybody have info on this?

It's practically built for AT&T users. Has all the same bands as one you'd buy from AT&T. Only difference is this one has an unlocked bootloader.

yes it will work.
anyways this is one of the best questions ever lol.
Guys, my wife is tired of her att Atrix 4G, att really has a sucky lineup for Android phones right now.
Someone suggested a Razr I. Since its not supported by a US carrier how does it get its updates?
Is it a decent phone, unlocked of course, or Have you moved on to something else? Help me find a new phone for the wife

I'm on AT&T, and my razr I runs beautifully! Battery is by far one of the outstanding features of the device, I can easily use it for two days straight. I would only get the phone though if you're willing to root. Stock is experience is great don't get me wrong, but the roms offered on this forum are just so much better. As for updates, I haven't bothered to check in months. I'm not expecting the phone to get upgraded any further than 4.1.2, so the only updates I check now are on development section of the forum. In my opinion the only things we would really miss out on are lock screen widgets and trim support, but besides that I haven't felt that the phone needs updating.

I can't touch my wife's phone, lol. That said I'll probably unlock the bootloader and flash the stock boot logo back so she won't freak out, but keep it stock and rooted (for TiBu).
4.1.2 is cool. Her Atrix is still on GB. So picking up one of these babies from eBay won't be a bad thing to do huh? Very cool!

Really? Oh well. I can on my HD.
Can the i take advantage of att's 4G network speeds if it is not blessed by big blue?

Sadly you'll be limited to 3G. But AT&T's network is fast enough that I don't really mind

I'll be honest, that's a downer. Not sure if my wife can overcome that.

You could get the one mini of she likes 4.3 form factor, it comes with lte. Only downside I see is the subpar battery life and sense, that one's personal preference though

The HTC One mini? Haven't looked unto it. Will check them out thanks!

root is required though...
Unless you have the unlimited data plan I don't believe they can stop you. For sure the Share Everything plans have tethering at no additional cost.
So I'm a newb here, but I'm wondering if it's possible to take my locked Verizon Moto X 1st generation phone, and convert it so that it will a) be GSM unlocked, and b) will pick up LTE bands in the UK.
GSM unlocked out the box and only if it's the same bands of att lte

UK uses different bands. Doesn't this thread suggest it's possible to add different bands? http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059
That is a phone with an entirely different chipset,

Sure, but according to that thread, it should work on any Qualcomm device, and someone had success doing that process on a Moto G, so I thought it might also work on Moto X.

My main concern is a custom ROM and kernel, is your bootloader unlocked?

I have done none of the steps, yet. Mostly I'm trying to gauge if it will be possible on a Verizon device since I didn't order an unlocked phone initially.
Verizon LTE device are sim free out the box so that is taken care of next step is rooting and roming
