ok so i think i may have softbricked my vivid, at least i hope i did and didnt hard brick...I can get into hboot and wcxrecovery but anything i flash just stays at the htc screen...my bootloader is unlocked but i am still s-on, any help would be greatly appreciated!
I just got the phone today, upgraded to ics before doing anything to it and then tried going through the root process
The phone is not bricked if you can get to the recovery partition. Where you trying to flash a rom/kernel ?
Hit thanks if I helped.
ive tried flashing 2 different roms, the stock att ics rom with all the bloat, and the virtuous_inquisition rom...both get stuck at either htc logo or boot logo, ive tried doing the ruu.exe downloaded from the htc website but that gives me an error halfway through because once the phone is on, i cant get back into hboot without pulling the battery
Okay sounds like you need to flash a compatible kernel.
Pull the battery and get back to Hboot select the fastboot usb option and then you can use
the fastboot commands to flash a kernel.
Superuser guide should have the info you need to do that if you have questions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416836
Flash a custom Kernel/Recovery (Three options, I suggest the FIRST)
*ATTENTION* IF FLASHING A KERNEL FOR A NEW ROM YOU WANT, YOU MUST FLASH THE ROM IMMEDIATELY AFTER FLASHING THE KERNEL WITHOUT BOOTING UP, THE KERNEL COMES FIRST. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT BOOT LOOP.
FIRST (AUTO) (joeykrim's FlashImageGUI method)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1423151
OR
SECOND (AUTO) (xboarder56's method)
- First, turn off wifi on your phone
- If you have SetCPU installed or any other program where you have altered to overclock or underclock, DISABLE the "set on boot" option
- You will have to download Easy Kernel Flasher v03.zip which is attached below
- Next plug in your phone and make sure its getting detected
- After that extract the zip file (kernel flasher)
- Place the boot.img of the kernel you want flashed in the "Kernel-Here" folder.
- Make sure android debugging is enabled on your phone via settings
- Click Flash.bat for windows or Flash.sh for linux and wait for it to close terminal
- Wait for your phone to reboot and wait 5-10 minutes. Then reboot again and wait 5 minutes, then you're good to go!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1328141
OR
THIRD (Manual) (Pirateghost's method)
- Extract the boot.img out of the kernel file you want and put it in the same directory as your fastboot.exe/fastboot executable
- Boot phone into hboot/bootloader (make sure you are in fastboot mode)
- Enter this code to flash the kernel and reboot the phone
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
Hit thanks if I helped.
I had actually already tried flashing different kernels, i got it figured out finally though, i relocked my bootloader and that let me do the ruu file back to stock so im up and running
I had exact same thing happen and tried ruu, which failed...in my case I was using wrong ruu...got right one and it worked flawlessly...

Okay so i unlocked my bootloader, that went well (as if thats hard)
and then i used Modacos superboot to root, it rooted (except for some reason the super user application opens to just a black screen). After that i continued to flash the recovery so that i can flash Cyanogen. When i try to flash the recovery i keep on getting the error 'cannot load'. i've tried like 4 different recovery roms. Not sure what im doing wrong
Oh and this has been tried on 2 different computers. One win7 and one XP. both gave the same output

what commands are you using to flash Amon_RA's recovery image? i also assume you're at the white bootloader screen when trying to flash Amon_RA's recovery image. also, to confirm root access, download the N1 Torch app and if it works, you're rooted.
Yes the screen is white. And i am using "fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0-cyan.img"
Cannot load what - fastboot or the ROM .img file? Do you have fastboot-windows.exe in the same directory as the rom image?-(not necessary if fastboot command works for you)
Type fastboot devices to double check your link between pc and phone. If not check usb cable & drivers.
Make sure ur unlock is right before flashing Amon. If you've rooted then you should see an unlocked-lock image (the the google Xscreen) while booting, or the N1 torch app method as mentioned above.

Make sure you got to that white screen by pressing the trackball and not the volume rocker.
I renamed the recovery image to "recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.img"
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.img
Make sure you check
Code:
fastboot devices
and get your device number and also make sure you put it in the tools folder of the Android SDK
Make these steps
Boot ur phone into bootloader
1 Rename the img to recovery.img
2 Place the file in ur toolfolder where u have ur fastboot
3 Rightclik on toolfolder+Shift choose open cmd here
4 write fastboot devices to be shure u are connected
5 then write fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
hi,I have the problem too.I try many times but still stuck TRIANGLE WITH !.when I do recovery image
the screen come up "sending 'recovery"3948 kb.....ok
writing' recovery'......ok

Finally got Amon_Ra's recovery to install
I started with a stock N1 with froyo
had a few stumbles along the way and lots of searching...lots and lots lol
using the how-to on the cyanogen page I went to the letter as ive never used ADB
So I installed the Latest Android SDK to get the ADB and Fastboot.
verified connection with "adb devices" command and so on
when I tried to flash amons the first time I got an error saying it couldn't open the file.
I checked to see if i had Super user with the LED flashlight app and I did not so I downloaded Super boot and it worked like a charm
tried again and got the same cannot open error.
I renamed the recovery image back to the original file name and triple checked everything else which didnt help.
at this point it was late and i was exhausted so my memory is fuzzy
but i had a few more issues and finally I installed the clock work app and installed clockwork recovery i then used that to flash amons because that is what i was familiar with from my G1 days.
I do remember I had to go into fast boot and select clear storage. I think thats what caused my N1 to hang on reboot after the ROM was flashed.
But It may have even been what caused my issues with the recovery image.
Hi,
I bought a faulty Nexus one from ebay, thought I can fix it, as I did buy a faulty desire from ebay and was able to fix it. This time im not so lucky I guess.
So here it is:
The phone is stuck at X when booting normally.
I can access HBoot (But not Hboot USB Plug, because USB debugging is not enabled) and Fastboot USB. I unlocked Hboot. Fastboot in PC recognizes the phone but ADB does not as usb debugging is not enabled.
The phone is not Rooted
Here are my ideas so far:
Get somehow debugging on with some commands (No luck from reshearching in google)
Reflash stock rom with PASSIMG.ZIP in sdcard, but my phone does not recognize the file from my sdcard (I'm pretty certain im doing something wrong or my idea is somehow wrong)
Flash new images through FASTBOOT, but every time Signature check fails (Shipped-roms.com).
Root with superboot, but signature check failed here too.
Flash a recovery, signature check fails.
I will reguraly update my tries
Please suggest correction to my ideas or suggest new ones!
Help will be much appreciated!
I admit it, the phone might be briked, but I want to make sure that I have tried everything before I abandon this project.
And ofcourse I have no Warranty.
What file are you using for passimg.zip? Make sure it's not a zip inside a zip.
What images are you using via the fastboot flash command?
Sent from my Nexus One
You didn't unlock the bootloader, it seems - because if you did, it wouldn't be checking signatures, and you'd be able to flash anything.
First of thanks to both of you for helping.
I'm pretty sure that i do not have zip inside zip and I downloaded them from shipped roms.com -> android -> Passion-> PASSIMG_Google .... .ZIP, (Then renamed it ofcourse) Is there a difference what version of android i use?
The issue with this is, it checks the SD CARD and does not find anything. I have seen from google that the most common issue is that it starts to check the .zip file but then aborts. Does the SDCARD have to be a goldcard (I do have a goldcard but it might be faulty, right?)
I tried fastboot flash PASSIMG_Google.... .ZIP; Fastboot Flashall ( With having boot, recovery, system in my fastboot folder)
Maybe I should try to flash everything the .zip has in it seperately because that succeded for boot, system and recovery but I was too afraid to flash every partitation (Like Radio which seems to be the scariest and the most easiest way to brick phone)
For the third answer, I have ***UNLOCKED*** in bootloader in purple and top on the screen.
Once again thanks and keep suggesting!
Unpack the ZIP and flash each image separately.
Leave the radio as is, if it's updated enough (5.08 or 5.12). In any case, fastboot won't allow you to flash bad radio - and the risk of bricking the phone using fastboot is near 0.
For passimg.zip, you need to download the FRG33 shipped ROM from shipped-roms.com then EXTRACT the zip file that is inside the zip that you downloaded. Rename that file to passimg.zip
For fastboot, flash boot and system seperately.
When you boot the device normally, do you see the lock icon below the four colored x?
Sent from my Nexus One
Okay,
Did it one by one (PASSIMG_Passion_Google_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33_release_signed.zip):
Succeeded:
Boot, Recovery, System and Userdata (that was only 3Kb)
Failed with signature check (Remote:Signature check failed):
Splash1, spcustom,
Did not do:
Radio
I'm going to post more details:
When booting up, it displays the X normally with the unlocking badge on the bottom of the screen and vibrates once. Then it goes black for a second or even less, the same images comes on and then it vibrates 6-7 times.
now that you successfully flashed the stock recovery, cam you boot into it?
Sent from my Nexus One
Nope, it does that what I described on the previous post
Oh and what's more it randomly during no activity being in fastboot vibrates as well for 5 times or so. It does this rarely but it's there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710937
Thanks, Well thats it then for now, just have to figure out what to do now
Sounds like you need to get the PASSIMG.zip method to work, or unlock and flash a new recovery like amon ra, and flash a full rom with sig checks off.

Did you try all the solutions suggested above (passimg, fastboot flash, etc)? If yes then no I don't think so.

what?
all the info is right there. what exactly are you trying to do? i mean, that thread has literally tons of information in it....and without you specifying what EXACTLY you are trying to do, nobody can help you.
Have you tried relocking your bootloader and then running the RUU.
Are you able to get into fastboot?
Like PG said.....we need more to go on?

I read the instructions and apparently i messed up somewhere. I can get in fast boot.
When i turn my phone on i see the white HTC logo shuts off and see the HTC logo again.
Also when i go in to hboot and go to recover i get a HTC logo and a quick blink of the next screen and then it goes into a boot loop again.
Try putting in hboot....then select fastboot.
Relock the bootloader "fastboot oem lock"
Download and run RUU.

and WHERE does it say that?
6) (Optional) Return to stock (locked bootloader, unrooted, etc) (Many thanks to Pirateghost)
- First, you are going to need to re-lock your bootloader.
- Boot into H-Boot by powering off. Once off, power back on and hold VOL DOWN + POWER BUTTON, once in HBOOT go to "fastboot" and click the power button to select
- Download the adbfastbootrecovery zip from the bottom of the post and EXTRACT it to your desktop
- Go to your computer file explorer and find your desktop "folder", hold SHIFT and RIGHT CLICK, select open a command window here
- Run this code in the command prompt
Code:
fastboot oem lock
- Now reboot
- Now, we will flash you back to the original stock ROM you were on. There are two options for this, the second does NOT need a windows device.
FIRST OPTION (RUU)
- Pick the RUU for your specific device. For example, the one for AT&T has the word "Cingular" in it, the one for Rogers says "Rogers" in it.
- You will find the RUU's here http://www.filefactory.com/f/002b74e0f4775869/ (THANKS to user football)
- Once you download the correct RUU, make sure your phone is plugged in via USB to your computer and you have the correct drivers (or just HTC Sync) installed on your computer
- Run the executable and follow the steps to flash the stock ROM
- Once the ROM loads, you should be good to go
- If you returned to stock because of a bug or issue, and want to root again, make sure to go back and follow the steps PRECISELY to perm root, flash CWM, flash a ROM, flash a kernel, etc. Remember, flash ROM IMMEDIATELY after flashing the kernel
OR
SECOND OPTION (PH39IMG.zip flash)
- Put this file for AT&T or this file for Rogers on a microSD card as is (it should be named PH39IMG.zip)
- Power down the phone, insert microSD and boot back into bootloader (power button + vol down)
- It should automatically find the zip file and flash the stock image (this includes recovery, system, everything stock.)
- If you returned to stock because of a bug or issue, and want to root again, make sure to go back and follow the steps PRECISELY to perm root, flash CWM, flash a ROM, flash a kernel, etc. Remember, flash ROM IMMEDIATELY after flashing the kernel

I have spent 3 hours working on this... and feel stupid... like the video said... I'm a n00b
My m8 is stuck in a boot loop and i am unable to access the recovery to factory reset the phone. Its been like this for 2 days now, and i have not found any solid help on the matter. I can get into hboot, however fastboot does not work and i cannot get into the recovery (the options are there, but when i press them they just disappear and nothing happens). If i connect the phone to my pc, the fastboot usb option shows up.
What im looking for are some step by step instructions on how to fix the matter. Ive posted on the /r/techsupport subreddit, and ive been told to either use an RUU or try and reflash a recovery, but without the instructions on how to do so.

Hi everyone
Since I restarted my phone last night, my phone has been in a endless bootloop and I can't even enter recovery, without it rebooting again and going into the same endless bootloop again, around 2 seconds after showing the "Teamwin" logo.
I'm using ARHD, and if I remember correctly it's version 71.1. TWRP is "openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7" and running ElementalX kernel.
I expect my partition is somehow corrupted, but I'm at a loss of ideas as to how I can recover my phone again. I would apreciate if I could somehow manage to make a backup of my data, but it that's totaly hopeless, I'm thinking of going for the ArtMOD ROM instead and starting fresh.
Is there a helpfull soul out there, that could maybe give me some insights as to what I can do from here? Thanks in advance!
I was hoping I could install a stock ROM and start from scratch again, but I somehow suspect having used a modified ROM has gotten me in trouble now and the ROM Upgrade utility sees this as a downgrade. I've not been able to find a newer ROM for the .401. series than "RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_HTC_Europe_4.19.401.9_R_Radio_4A.23.3263.28_10.38r.1157.04L_release_353069_signed_2-1.exe". Although the updater believes I'm updating from 4.19.401.11 (the ARHD ROM).
I can get into FASTBOOT USB and the phone goes to the black HTC logo screen when trying to update, but quickly fails on the PC during the process at "Updating 1/5". When unplugging the USB cable the phone shows:"
RUU
Security fail!
Update Fail!
I've attached two screenshots, to better explain
Can some kind soul out there please help me getting a working phone again? What ROM I'll end up with doesn't really matter
Since you're using unlocked bootloader, why don't you try RUU to get back on Stock ROM.
Here is the collection of ROMS
Download your ROM.
from Windows Command prompt
adb reboot bootloader #
If it didn't work, Press and Hold Power button along with Volume down of your phone,
When you reach to bootloader, get into fastboot mode.
Now follow the following commands to restore the STOCK Rom. (make sure your downloaded ROM are in the same directory where you have fastboot.exe, abd, and abdwin.api etc)
1) fastboot erase cache
2) fastboot oem rebootRUU
3) fastboot flash zip RUU.zip (RUU.zip is of course your downloaded Stock ROM). If it says Failed, try again.
4) fastboot erase cache
5) fastboot reboot-bootloader
6) fastboot reboot
Good Luck
Hope that helps.
Thank you so much for helping out!
After several tries, tries and retries, I finally managed to get the phone back up and running with the stock ROM. I believe what finaly did the trick, was to use "fastboot oem lock" to get the stock ROM installed. From here, I'm now able to unlock it again and install a custom recovery (TWRP) and ROM (I went for ARTMOD). Thanks again!!!
