Or actually NO recovery at all unless I use an app. No button combo on a powered off device works. I have 2 thrills with custom rom and kernel so I know what I'm doing. (Buttonwise!) Phone works and all that just no recovery. Sup wit that?!

So I been trying to root my phone for about an hour now. I rooted, un-rooted then rooted again, and it seems to have work (obviously you can't tell when your phone is rooted, but oh well). I'm kind of a noob in the Droid 3 section, but then I went to the Market place and downloaded the "ROM Manager", downloaded the CM9 recovery, and had the app boot into recovery but to my surprise, it doesn't work for some reason. I don't under what else I can do, am I rooted? Do I need to manually install CM9 recovery? I just want ICS on my phone, and this is driving me crazy.

Do you have Super User app on your phone ?
Yup. I do, I have no idea where it came from though.

Does it open? Look up the thread for boot two roms at once in the genreal section. Follow that and you will have ICS. You should wait tho, as a new build will be up tonight for ics.

Yup, it opens and shows the applications that I allow, does this mean that I'm rooted for sure? I'll definitely wait for the new ICS rom tonight, just want to make sure if I can boot into recovery. I tried using the "X" and power button but it just gives me the triangle with the "!" logo inside.

I believe in the droid 3...you hold the Power + M for recovery. Not the X.
Root checker is an app that will tell you if you are rooted. You need to either install the droid 3 bootstrap or safestrap to get cwm recovery.

Its kind of either or.
You can hold Power + M, and use the volume keys to select recovery, or you can hold Power + X and it will go to recovery as well.

It gave ya the right screen. But that takes you to the stock recovery. To install roms you will need Clockworkmod Recovery or Safestrap Recovery.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA premium
Go with safestrap. Especially if you're new to this.

Well for me from manager doesn't work.. the recovery it installs does not start from app... never tried other way . Uninstaled RM and installed only hashcode's safestrap so you don't need to start in recovery.: it will give you the option to open the cwm menu from boot by pressing menu button when prompted and if nothing done then start normally..
:in hashcode's blog are: instructions for flashing cm9 with safestrap
Good look

Are you able to get in recovery or download mode?
Also, what's currently flashed on the phone?
CM10
can get to download mode but cant when it comes to recovery mode.

This is what it looks like when charging..

I am fairly sure that is not the CM10 charging image in your photo. Did you have a custom kernel running on top of CM?
If so, then check that kernel's thread for other ideas.
Also, if you only got into download mode with the vol button + insert usb cable method, then you probably have a bad battery. If you try to boot while on charger does it boot normally?
Good battery? Since you have download mode, you can try using odin to flash stock kk4 and see if your hardware is good. Wipes your data for sure.

Hi so i am thinking of upgrading to twrp but is it good and most of all it is safe to flash it as i am used to clockworkmod revovery as i used it since i first rooted my phone so i need help should i glash twrp or not?
Sent from my GT-I9305T using xda app-developers app
They are both good in my opinion, but there is one thing to consider. If you should have a bad flash of somekind that would lead to a non-functional touch screen twrp won't work because of the lack of hardware button compability.
Besides that twrp is very smooth as you can set backup names on the fly.
PhilZ is superior to both of them
Whats philz? I have never heard of it

So, i get galaxy note n7000. It was running 4.0.4 stock. I flashed kernel with odin with root + cwm. Then i wiped data, tried to install rom (it was miui 3.9.6 from here) progress stucked on /formatting system. Then screen went black and phone won't turn on after that. I founded one user from russian forum who had same issue, idk how he fixed it..
So, phone won't turn on , go to recovery, pc can't see it. hardly bricked? By cwm flash..?
Phone has got warranty. Maybe i should bring it to them? Could they know that phone was rooted?
Seems i have the same problem like here...
Which Cwm did you use? Was it Cwm. Zip?

cwm 5. I heard about cwm zip, but no. I got cwm by installing custom kernel in odin. Or you're talking about something else?
And yes, i'm soon going to the carrier where this phone was bought. Which is the best version to tell? OTA update?
Yeah, just say it failed doing ota update.
