Trick to retain pages in stock browser? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Stock browser frequently defaults to home page & one 'tab' after returning to the browser after a certain time frame.
Same for you guys? Is there some kind of trick to force things to remain as they were?
Running stock GB, no mods/root, no app killers.

Happens to me as well when browser has 3-4 tabs open and I switch to some other app. Maybe has something to do with free RAM. Do you have 500 MB used even when no app is running?

Use opera mini or mobile...
Even after restart, pages remains.
Hope this will help..

Just got Note - problem with browser tabs

So I just got the Note recently and so far I'm liking it (came from Iphone 4).... BUT, 1 thing that has GOT TO CHANGE!!! Is..... when I open stock browser and open tabs, if I close the browser and then go back to it my tabs are all gone!!! And it just shows home page...
Has anyone figured this out?? I haven't installed any task manager stuff. I need to get this fixed though. Is there a fix for this?
I've tried searching this forum and google but don't see much info. Most of the stuff I see says to uninstall task killers, but I didn't install anything just stock task manager for the Note.
I've tried different browsers also but none of them really seem to keep the tabs open, it is very annoying
Any ideas?
bump for friday!!!
This is more of a workaround.
Instead of exiting the browser with the back button, press the home button. When you go back to the browser (by long pressing the home button to access the running tasks) the tabs should still be there.
Probably best to have put this in the Q&A section
Thanks for the reply!! But this is what I'm doing... even that doesn't work. In fact, I don't use the back button too much, I mostly use the home button...
There is no fix for this? Can someone tell me the cause of it? Is it something to do with a Samsung task manager? Is there a new task manager I can install or seomthing I can tweak in the OS? Perhaps seomething in the browser config or task manager config?
I don't have this problem... especially with Dolphin Browser. Those bloody tabs persist after reboots. It is a pain in the arse to get rid of them, you have to kill them manually.
Any body else know a fix??
Maybe I'll try firefox see how that works. I did d/l dolphin but haven't tried yet
You can install ZDbox, it is an app that was developed by an Xda member. It has a task killer incorporated within the app where you can put the browser in the protected apps by long pressing and adding it. After you do this, the app will not be closed if you kill all other apps.
Let me know if it resolves the issue. (it is available for free in the market)
Why are you using stock browser anyway . It's crap . I never managed to download anything with it . And after " download " it can't parse it . Use OPERA MOBILE . ( NOT mini ) . You'll thank me later

Ok I tried ZDbox, however the browser doesnt even show up in the process list of ZDbox lol... It shows up in my task manager, but not in ZDbox.
I will just use a different browser... I see so many browsers, which is best? How does Opera compare with Firefox? I kinda like Maxthon also, but it isn't saving my tabs either
Download Opera. It's the fastest browser, as it uses hardware acceleration.
Its not witht stock browser. If you are opening too many apps and then press Home key, the Android system will put the browser to sleep but it keeps it in memory. If you launch another app at this point which asks for more RAM than there is available, Android will start exiting the apps that are residing in the memory. When that happens, the browser could also be force closed by the system. Dunno how to fix that since I am not a dev.
If you use other browsers, you wont have the GPU acceleration and hence smoothness, in my opinion.
Just my 2 cents.

The two of you should talk: his tabs don't stay and yours are hurting your ass
So how is everyone with the Note fixing or getting around this? I'm trying Opera now...
Well, after using the Opera browser... i gotta say I like it. EXCEPT it doesn't remember my tabs either!! It seems like none of the browsers are working right with tabs... unless i'm doing soemething wrong? Is there any way to remember tabs in opera mobile?
When I press the back button on Dolphin it ask if I want to close the browser or minimize it.
What would be nice is.... like Safari on iphone... if you kill it, it still opens up with all your tabs... or a desktop firefox, it always allows you to restore your previous session/tabs...
I HAVE to keep tabs open, instead of re-opening 5 pages/tabs evertime the browser just feels like forgetting them
Anybody know about the great Note browser mystery??
How long after you press home are you checking, if you leave it in sleep mode for some time, android will kill the high power consuming processes and that is why your tabs are not getting stored...
I think what you want is a browser which remembers your previous tabs and reload all of them whenever you open a browser.. i dont think stock or dolphin or opera has such an option, did you try the mobile version of firefox.. maybe it remebers tabs...
And to those people this is not about multitasking... it is just that he wants the browser to remember his tabs so that it can reload itself everytime a new instance opens...

YES!! thank you..thats exactly right! i've tried so many browsers so far and have yet to find one that does!! It seems so weird to me that none of these browsers have a session restore or tab restore option. let me try firefox... i haven't really tried it yet. BUT i just read firefox for andoird DOES have hardware acceleration... I'M ON IT! will report back
After using FF for a bit...I can report it is the same as other browsers There is no session restore and it closes my tabs also. When I launch it, it shows me my "previously closed tabs" but it won't let me restore them all......I have to click on each one to restore
So this is still a aproblem

[Q] Stock browser always defaults back to 'media' storage

Whenever I try to download files, the browser always appears to default to 'media' storage. Even when I change it to 'phone' a closing and reopening of the browser sets the storage back to 'media'. Anyone have a similar issue?
Yes and that happens even on the latest official ROM. The solution is not to close it after you have changed the setting.
Hopefully the wait for ICS won't be too long as the chrome browser on it is amazing compared to gb stock, especially in tablet mode. It's so much more desktop like and there aren't issues like this.

Always keep a process in background (whatsapp)

Hi!
Im on cm9 nightlies with semaphore kernel. I use whatsapp very often and i have some problem.
Sometimes i dont really know why it happens i only get my messages after i open the app.
Im using xlbm kernel with 399 mb of ram so i guess that cant be a problem.
I also use droidwall to block unwanted connections but whatsapp is allowed to use data. But it still happens. Can anyone explain to me how can i lock it into the memory?
Sometimes it only 5-6 minutes but if i forget abput it i get my messages hours later.( and my gf rages)
Cheers!

I would assume you kill whatsapp(force close) using task killer. You shouldn't kill any apps that is running in your phone. Based on several forums, killing apps will consume more battery because you need to re-open the app again.

problem with browser

Hey, since I have galmin, I noticed some weird behavior of browser. No matter what rom I'm using, it closes by itself. It's not force close, it just takes me to homescreen, like I have pressed home button. When I start it again, it takes me to google... I just want to ask, did anyone else seen something like that on their phone? I think it might be related to ram management but I can't be sure
haopened to many times..b didnt think of this way

Dolphin Mini? or try Maxthon...
right, i forgot to add that it happens only on stock browser, and using something else is not a solution for me i just want to know if it happens to someone else too, and why it happens. it's not like browser closes itself every day, maybe twice a week tops? so it's not bothering me that much. and no, i'm not using any scripts or battery savers.
its on stock browser only..happened to me mostly on CM7 builds idk why..now am using andro-id so its a lil less..but it deffinitely happens..and happened in froyo too..Its not regular problem but happens sometimed like 2/3 times a week..So never thought of it as a serious problem
-Rik(Rittik)
alright then, at least i know that i'm not alone with this one ;p
Happenes to me only in cm roms no problem intthe stock based ones

Happens to me as well. Andro-ID 3.3.1 no scripts.
Yes is happened also to me but only on this forum if i go on full site from stock browser and i've found the way for "fix" this issue and the ways for "fix" this issue in my case are 2:
1. Use adaway for remove the ads from internet.
2. Deactivate the javascript.
and then all works good, however don't i've understood the exact reason of this issue but is sure that too ads freeze the stock browser.

I guess that bcause the stock browser use a too high amount of ram, so it will close itself if system is in low memory state.

Yes...but in my case this happens only when there too ads and only on full site of this forum happens that the stock browser it closes itself then i think that too ads eat too ram and then the browser it freeze and it closes itself because if i use adaway or disable the javascripts this don't happens anymore.

To much image to load its make stock browse lag then close its self, because browser make a big chace on system.
I always found this problem while browsing, not only on GingerBread, you can found it on ICS to.
do reset chace and cookies before browsing, and if the stock browser feel little lag than before, back to homescreen and delete it from recent app then open it again. you cant try this method on gingerbread because GB doesnt have recent app layout.
Recent app layout on ICS looks like taskmanager but not same with taskmanager.

[Q] Stock Browser sometimes closed

Dear Friends, I'm Currently running in Stock I9305XXBME1 rooted deodexed, i had problem with stock browser, sometimes it closes when I try to return for previous pages, is this normal? well could someone here can help my question. Many thanks
Definately not normal, I've had the browser open with a good few and very rare for them to reload.
You might have some memory hungry apps running in the background, get a task manager to monitor apps ram usage
