1.2A/2.1A charger - LG Optimus Black

So I just bought a car usb charger, which is rated at 1.2A on one port and 2.1A on "Fast charge" port. I think the 1.2A should be safe atleast, but whatabout the 2.1A one?

As it says, it's for fast charging. If voltage is correct, there is no problem. Maybe a warm battery during charge time.

2.1a charger for N7

Can I use a 2.1a cigarette plug on the N7? Or can someone recommend a suitable car charger (dual usb)?

As long as the voltage output is correct it sgould be fine. I reckon 2.1Amp is plenty. I've not had much luck with 2Amp+ cigarette lighter adaptors, the few I've had have always ended up causing radio interference.
y, voltage matters much.
I've got a dual-output cig plug that has a 1A port and a 2.1A port. On my N7, it charges fine off the 1A port but doesn't charge at all off the 2.1A port.
For comparison, from the 2.1A port my Galaxy Nexus phone only recognizes it as "USB charging" so only pulls 500ma. 2.1A usually means it's got the special ipad circuitry and most other stuff won't pull more that 500ma from it. I stick to 1A chargers now.
From a purely electrical stand point the amps is less important then the voltage. You simply always need a supply with more amps then your device will draw. Unlike voltage where you do not want to have a difference in the number as long as the amps number is higher you're fine. If you have extra amps it doesn't use them unless it can pull them. But as timropp said you'll probably find it's designed to charge at 1A (ac charger) or 500mA (usb). A 1A charger has some resistors on the data lines which tell the device that the charger can supply 1A. Without those whatever is connected is assumed to supply at most 500mA and the device limits itself to pulling that much.

Resistors are not needed. I just solded the 2 USB data pins together and my Galaxy Nexus recognizes my car charger as a AC charger.
But unfortunately i don't think there is an app or variable that can tell me the actual amps the device gets from the charger.

Mains Charger advice

I'm looking for advice on the quickest way to charge my phone.
With the stock (1.5MA) charger and cable I get about 1200mA current of charge
With a Mr Phone 2A charger it maxes at 1000mA charge current
With a friend's Galaxy Tab 2A charger it maxes at 1600mA charge current.
(Figures above were obtained using Battery Monitor Widget app)
So firstly I'm confused as to why the higher rated 2A Mr Phone charges less than the stock 1.5mA charger when the Galaxy Tab charger, with the same specs, is much quicker.
Secondly, what is the maximum current the M8 can charge at?

The stock mains is Quick Charge 1.5, so the phone would charge faster than a 2A "non-Quick Charge" mains. If you need a faster charger, get a Quick Charge 2.0 compliant charger.
Edit: Don't think Quick Charge 2.0 mains are available yet. Have to wait for their release.

Quick Charge 1 is not part of a chargers spec. Only QC2 is.
There's no such thing as chargers that are quick charge 1 or 1.5
And that doesn't explain why a 2A Galaxy Tab charger is quicker than another 2A charger

No Quick Charge 2.0/3.0 support

TurboPower charger that comes with it is the only thing that will give it a fast charge.
I have no idea how or why Quick Charge tech was left out.
Mine does indeed say "TurboPower Connected" and charges super-fast when I use the USB C Quick Charge 3.0 AUKEY Amp Type-C Dual-Port Wall Charger and the USB C Quick Charge 3.0 AUKEY Car Charger with Dual AiPower Ports. I can't seem to find it now, but I remember reading somewhere that the Moto Z does use QC 3.0, otherwise I wouldn't have bought the above products. NOTE: I am going USB-C to USB-C.

In short QC 2.0 and 3.0 don't follow usb c spec according to a top Google engineer. According to Usb c spec the vbus voltage should not exceed 5v. QC tech exceeds this by using 9v and 12v to achieve more power. Motorola built the Moto Z according to spec which allows you to ramp up the current (amps) to achieve more power which is why our stock charger outputs at 5.7amps. You don't need QC to charge fast with Usb c. Usb c with power delivery is actually better . Either way the QC chargers put out 15 watts total. Our turbo charger does 28.5 watts using 5v at 5.7 amps and is actually faster than what's out now. QC chargers use higher voltage to achieve this at 9v 1.7 amps 15 watts, a charger doing 5v 3a does the same 15 watts. So to turbo charge your phone don't use QC chargers unless it also outputs at least 5v at 3a that's the key. Anything less than 3a won't turbo charge. It needs to be a usb C to usb C cable so the charger should have a usb C port not a usb a port like most of you are trying to use. No other charger out now does more than 3amps besides the turbo charger until then use chargers that do 5v 3a. Verizon has a fast charger that supports this and all other fast charging tech.

Will these charge as fast as the stock charger out of the box? And with a USB C cable does it need to support quick charge, or do all USB C cables support quick charge as long as you have it plugged into a USB C quick charge adapter like you linked to?
Nothing charges as fast as the stock charger as far as I know.
I looked around on Amazon to try to find a spare charger with the same speed as the OEM, but there are none as far as I know. QC actually goes against usb-c standard, so whoever has a phone that supports both is technically being shorted on charge speed. I will be waiting for the verified brands (ex. Anker/Aukey) to release a legitimate charger because there have been instances where wall chargers have completely destroyed devices. For the fastest charge, you'll want usb-c cables end to end, but since usb-c is not the standard yet, I would be very careful when buying lesser-known usb-c accessories. Z owners will have to wait for the market to catch up at this point.
Total side note but I wonder if the problems Samsung is having is because of their bastardized quick charge/type setup.
I'm happy we don't have QC.

I bought the Choetech charger from amazon and it works great on my Z Force. no where near the OEM charger but still charges the phone dead to full in a little over an hour and a half. from my limited testing.

Ha! I was thinking the same when I heard about battery fire from the Note 7.

The car charger that Verizon sells turbo charges the phone, but not as quickly as the stock home charger. I don't think any charger will charge as fast as the stock home charger, since it's optimized for the phone. But the Verizon USB-C charger charges the phone plenty fast.

I can confirm this. I just got this phone on an upgrade after insisting to the Verizon sales representative that I did NOT want a Galaxy S8, that I was absolutely sure I didn't want the S8, and that I think the Z Force is a much better device than the S8. After seeing the genuine shock on his face that I slighted his phone, I bought the OtterBox case and the Verizon branded USB-C car charger with it.
The car charger definitely charges faster than my non quick charge USB-C cable, but not as fast as the stock charger. The stock charger will take me from ~5% to full in an hour. The Verizon car charger takes about an hour and twenty minutes to go from ~5% to full.
All in all, it was worth the money spent on the charger. It is definitely better than the 8 hour charge my standard USB-C usually takes.

Question Charging speed

So I was trying to charge as fast as possible and multiple qc2 and 3 chargers were only slow charging. I assume this is due to the unisoc vs Qualcomm chipset. I was able to determine that pd chargers will quick charge at nearly 15 W. But only Samsung chargers with afc and one anker, with iq2 I think, will charge at non pd high speed charging
Use a known good Samsung 25w brick/cable to simplify troubleshooting... it's hard enough to begin with.
If battery start charge temp is <65F or >100F or has greater than a 75% charge on it, fast charging may be disabled. Display must be off.

I have an Rd tc-66 so I can see exactly what volt/amp/watt is being supplied. I used an anker, aukey, and several other chargers. Only the Samsung fast charger, the anker and any pd charger I tried were able to fast charge. I used 1 USB a to c cable for all chargers, so it worked on 2 qc chargers and not on 4 qc2 and qc3 chargers. For pd chargers, it was the same c to c cable, and all pd chargers provided 8-9v and 1.4-1.7a.
My quess, again, is that the unisoc chipset doesn't favor Qualcomm quick charge, so it's limited to Samsung afc and pd for high speed charging.

Does 4.35 volts battery requires 9V charger?

I got this problem recently, my battery says its maxium is 4.35V, but when i try to charge it with 5V charger it doesnt charge,
What i do?
