Hey gang,
I just bought a used HERO for my mother and would like to root it and load a custom rom. I will follow this guide to root it : Step By Step Way to root Using Flashrec(Updated 4/5)
I need some advice on a good clean rom though.
Below are my 'wanted features' in a rom.
Android 2.1
HTC Sense
stable (no need for constant reboots)
App2SD
good battery life
NOT overclocked
NOT themed (she just wants what she sees in the commercials. Stock look and colors)
keyboard with voice input (she sucks at typing and just wants to "talk to text")
LWP (optional but she probably won't use)
I looked at the rom area... and got lost with all of the choices.
She will never change a single setting once it is configured for her.
she just wants an "Android".
Thnx!
Everything except that stupid Blue Echo Rom, that thing is horrible

Hi PapaSmurf
I don't follow you...
Please link me to a ROM that fits her needs (if that exists)
Try nfinitiefx45 stock 2.1 deodexed or damage control 2.09.01
Sorry I can't link from the xda app.
Also, if the phone already has 2.1 on it, there is a new rooting method. If it has 1.5, flashrec should work fine.

Darchstar 2.8 !! My phone never ran so smooth I have very very little keyboard Lag.
Sooo, why not keep it bone stock since otherwise you'll void her warranty for nothing?

I want Apps2SD so she doesn't run out of room so fast. I am sure she will add apps and not clean up after herself.

+1 for nfinitefx45's stock ROM. but get the odex version since you won't be using themes
Fresh is also a good option with slight visual tweaks (uses HTC Espresso launcher + vanilla lock screen)
of the 2 i'd guess the nfinitefx ROM is more stable since it's closer to stock, but I honestly haven't tried fresh.

Lmao cold bro just cold. That's OK I prefer my red dawn anyways. Lol
My sig says it all....
(although DD is on a new version now... and does not have sense, but with a few simple flashes, who needs it?)
(PS, LWP sux, will not work on most roms (ie, not sticking on standby), and a batt drain, and slows sys down. dont bother.)
(PPS, after re-reading your OP, I am wondering why you are looking for a custom rom at all? b-sides the lwp thang, stock has all that, no theme, stable. root is good for a few extra things and I recommend it, but perhaps use a stock rom for stability and consistency....?)

ah yes, unless you go for a cyan rom, or some other 2.2 build, which I dont recommend personally, yet.
and make sure you have a class 6 card at least for a2sd...
I think you just want another Hero to play with lol. If you really want a custom rom, the odex version of Nfinite's stock rom has gobs of internal memory and is snappier than any deodexed rom.

Lmao um a2sd can be used on any class SD card. U need a class 4 card if u want to move dalvik cache over but even still it makes the phone unstable.
Go with odexed version of nifinite stock rom. It has a2sd plus is fast and what ur looking for
wouldnt fresh be good for him to flash?
sounds like what he needs

well, I have been told by countless ppl here that anything less than a C6 "does not work well", frankly not knowing what that exactly means, but apparently causes instability/data corruption? whateva.
guess you would know, right?
dont use it, dont care. just trying to be helpful.
+1 for odexed version of nifinite stock rom. i think that wold be perfect, and easiest to "suport" if needed.
Thank you all for the help!
Here is what I did.
Rooted using this 2.1 guide:
[GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero
Flashed the following ROM:
[ROM] Sprint 2.27.651.6 STOCK Deoxed w/A2SD 2.7.5_pf4a |7/31/2010|
(i have not tried JIT just yet...)
All seems perfect! I believe my Ma will love this. Who knows... maybe Pop will want one too =)
Thnx again!

Hello guys
I got an optimus 2x, and was planning to root it, or whatever you call it From day one, I was really dissapointed with the LG stuff, it got better with launcherPro, which made my homescreen much much faster and smoother. I think this phone has enormous potensial, but bad software. Therefore, since I am new to this forum, I am looking for the "best" root or rom thing for it. Maybe there is many different versions, but I like things clean, simple, fast and smooth. thats what she said.
Anyway, I've seen a friends rootet xperia, and he said he got some new UI with folders and stuff. I dont mind this, only it is good, and maybe it will be customisable still?
Problems Ive had with the phone: Random shuttdown, ugly apps like facebook for LG and antivirus etc. Buggy lockscreen. Battery goes to 0% when it randomly shuts down.
Is it wise to get 2.3 on the optimus 2x? I would love some inputs from you guys also, what you like the best and some general experience. Will I be able to update my phone when im rooted, like from the settings options from the phone? dno if this is important or not.
Anyway, links would be appriciated to official threads or direct links to your recomended roots/roms. Thanks
I have no experience with this, so a HOWTO guide or a youtube vid would be nice. Ive only done jailbreaking on 3.1.2 on 3gs
Cm7 is still in a nightly on the o2x but it has alot of bugs, i think. Mdc fr17 is very stable and fast, it's 2.2.2 though
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA Premium App
If you want a clean, simple, fast and smooth ROM like you said ide go for the Modaco Fr17 Vanilla version -
http://android.modaco.com/content/l...om-rom-for-the-lg-optimus-2x-vanilla-edition/
This is also extremely stable as its based on the stock ROM but with all bloatware removed, also read some of the pinned topics on the links below, this will show you all you need to do.
http://android.modaco.com/category/506/lg-optimus-2x-2x-modaco-com/
For bleeding edge stuff, hope on the CM7 nightly train, but don't complain if it crashes.
If you want stability, then try the MoDaCo stock based ones.
You don't need much of a tutorial to do it, use SuperOneClick to gain root, grab ROM Manager from the Market and use that to install ClockworkMod Recovery... download the ROM you want, wipe & install (also via CWM if you don't want to fiddle)
Hi
If you don't want to install a custom ROM:
have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037751
-Install latest firmware and baseband for your region (or another region if you prefer)
-root your phone
-Install ROM Manager from Market and install ClockWorkMod Recovery from there
-Install dexopt fix
Now that you have a good base, look in market for an app to uninstall system apps (I have used Root Uninstaller). To completely remove system apps I think you need to remount /system rw, else you can freeze apps for easy restoring if you mess up.
I would also recommend installing launcherpro from market (replace home screen and app drawer) and google stock lockscreen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033776&highlight=aosp+lockscreen
Thanks for the help guys. Im gonna try the Modaco Fr17 Vanilla version. I have an exam tmrow and will therefore not try it out until the afternoon. I also have to read some, and learn the difference between root and boot, and some of ur advance words havent found a real guide yet, but have the iso and all those other folders that was in the Modaco Fr17 Vanilla version.
great fun
I think the phone drain battery too fast in 2.2 (official rom)
I loose 40% of battery within 6 hours without using anything (when I'm sleeping during a night)
That's why I change to use 2.3 and I found that the battery problem is gone
I loose 1% in 12 hours.
I'm also new to the fun world of android. I've learned alot by simply reading threads and using google to explain som of the terms Read the roll up thread very thorougly, explains alot.
I'm now using CM nightly #31 and it's been very stable for me.
Just do some backups and start toying around with your phone, it's fun!
..but I like things clean, simple, fast and smooth = cyanogenmod!
So far, from temasek is the best.. he got a custom kernel too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421425
My Opinion,
Android 2.3 from teamsek. It is just brilliant.
Android 4.0 from xxMrHyde + Nova Kernel is quite good keeping in mind the state of ICS on the 2X.

i advice to newcomers to flash first a stable CyanogenMod build.
then when they want to go further flash a Custom Kernel (for CM7 i think the best one is Etana)
after that take what ever you want! Try, try and try.
but pay attantion to not become a flashacolic :silly:
try nove HD
Nova HD is also great . now im using it..

Me too, it's the best ICS Rom i've ever seen, no lags, super fast (@1ghz!) and IMO completely stable, just some little bugs.
i flahed a few roms here but dont really like the end result.. Is there a rom thats close to stock minus all the bloatware? I dont really need any mods maybe just the tethering (apn) but other than that theres nothing i really need.
Wildchild's roms
i will stick to the sense 3.0 version the 3.5 is still buggy but very usable

Wild Child created a stock rom with a few tweaks:

I have been using the latest Wild Child's 3.5 roms with great experience. He has done a terrific job develope this rom to run smoothly. I have my cpu set at 1836 and the performance is just awesome. Battery life improves as well. I would recommend it.
If you prefer sense 3.0 then flash wild child's 3.0 rom...just as stable as 3.5
I second wild child's 3.5 rom. Very stable. Have had zero bootloops since installing. Jus be sure and load the boot.IMG that is inside the provided zip file. A lot of people have post bootloops but did not properly install. Jus follow instructions and you will be very happy with the results.

I present you my first publicly released (and probably last) ROM for the Legend.
This isn't something revolutionary. It's just a ROM I've cooked for myself and i you willing to try it, go ahead. It contains a hell lot of stuff made by others which are respectably credited (I hope ).
Always make a nandroid, and flash on your own risk!

BlaY0's kernel
Darktremor's A2SD
Wake on trackpad
Extended power menu
Custom lock screen and navbar
Roboto font
Removed OTA menu in settings
Blocked ads via hosts file
Lower auto brightness values
Added Task killer tweak
Enhanced battery indicator
Custom boot animation in /data/local/
Disabled boot sound
Added HTC Car Panel
Added A2SDGUI

Adobe Reader
Facebook
Gmail
Google Search
Google Maps
StreetView
Market
Voice Search
YouTube
Installation
No rocket science - Wipe and flash via Clockwork
First run will take some time since the ROM is deodexed
Issues
Even if you use A2SD, internal memory may shrink very fast after installation. That's because Darktremor Script is enabled by default and this is due to dalvik-cache not being moved to SD on first boot. Use A2SDGUI to move and rebuild it. This can take up to 5 minutes.

Minor update. DL link updated in first post.
you know what would be cool a froyo sense rom were you have gpu ui rendering and pinch to zoom in photo gallery and in browser like 2.1 used to have instead of using HTC`s stock crappy ported rom that made a pretty good phone running on eclair performe horrable in froyo (performance increase my ass, the phone may be better under the hood but for a simple picture viewing.........
and having andother app on it to do that, kinfa makes the sense rom worthless
wouldn`t you agree

Wow, I know which ROM I'm heading to if I ever need to go back to Sense. Well done!
compare android 2.1 with sense for legend (browser, gallery app, fps in games) and any 2.2 with oveclock you will see a huge difference as the 2.1 is much smoother because every 2.2 sense is stock based and it runs horrable (nobody tweaked it in the general ui)
or maybe my legend just hates 2.2 roms
I tried this ROM, and the Adobe Reader gets FC everytime I try to open it

If you're not S-OFF or unlocked it will. Just like any app trying to write something to /system.
So far so great! I wanted something wellworked that WASN'T a Gingerbread ROM - Why? Because they're worse for the Legend since there aren't any bloody drivers, making wifi unstable and breaking tether into forced ad-hoc mode, which doesn't work with my Transformer ICS.
I think I'm S-On though, which is poop.

What he said was true, Froyo Sense base roms on HTC Legend are worse than Eclair Sense/Espresso ones. I had a lot of chances to compare these in the past (while I'm still using HTC Legend) since I cooked them alot. The FPS of 2.1 is always higher than 2.2's (using Neocore to benchmark), and the UI is faster for sure.
Fortunately, the ported 2.3 Sense Rom from HTC Wildfire S/Salsa is as smooth as 2.1 Sense (as I remember), so definitely HTC did a better job and Froyo Sense was totally a failure.

fancy sharing the way you managed to get the data2sdext3 working? as me and 2 others that are recog devs couldn't get it working! hence why we have to do it they way we do.
2.3.5 is sense 2.1 and 3.5 but both are entirely different.
But don't forget u cannot use data2sd properly with an apps2sd rom...that's the reason why i started to created my own roms without porting....and without apps2sd.
But really, if you want to help with roms...make them from scratch like i have. that's what we want.
I can sit here and give u all the WFS roms anyone wants, 90% have apps2sd so are useless to us, WFS roms which have the data2sd built in are not fully functioning in 1 way or another, after 2 months of testing them out i found out the hard way.
my current builds are as follows
x2 CM7 Builds, both are ports but from 2 devices (WFS/Aria)
Both boot but lack Kernel support so cannot run touch-screen, all areas have been covered so i know its the kernel!
Sense 3.5 (Pico/Explorer) Not a port but RUU build (From Scratch) and swap over... without apps2sd, this is hard, most have failed so far..
Senseless Rom, using a random launcher, similar to CM7 but with out CM7/Sense parts, so it will be a bog standard simple Rom.
Hey..
Hey Guys..Well I need a rom but I want a sense 3.5 gingerbread 2.3.5 rom..as I want to run data2whatever script on it rather than data2sd-ext3 script..I have an 8 gb class 10 sd card but whenever i use a rom with data2sd-ext3 script on it...I find it irritating as there is a huge lag when we turn on the lock screen..While on other roms like dot sense annd the other one..things work great with data2whatever..I want a sense 3.5 2.3.5 rom with transparent status bar which runs data2whatever script and nemus launcher in it if possible..as it is super fast and runs Go launcher themes too now..
streetrawker said:
I want a sense 3.5 gingerbread 2.3.5 rom..as I want to run data2whatever script on it rather than data2sd-ext3 script. Both scripts are the same, but data2whatever has a dalvik cache cap which stops you installing apps/data or anything after a period of time. its proven to be a problem hence why users don't use that anymore. hence why there's no support any more cos the dev has had his accounts frozen.
whenever i use a rom with data2sd-ext3 script on it...I find it irritating as there is a huge lag when we turn on the lock screen..Try using an sdcard booster app, and cut you tasks with a taskiller. don't blame the scripts its not always the problem, again its a proven fact.
While on other roms like dot sense annd the other one..things work great with data2whatever..I want a sense 3.5 2.3.5 rom with transparent status bar. When you find a good 3.5 sense rom which actually works fine...then tell me where to get this....as al of them so far don't work because the kitchen doesnt accept sense 3.5 roms yet lol

Well...I didn't know about the problem with data2whatever because I usually install 20-25 apps in my phone..Plus I find this script more stable..Personal opinion you know..And I will try sdcard booster too..And I like EQDKPv4.9_C510E_multi_deodexed_mhr rom except for the fact that it has a lot of dialer consumption and it drains up battery too fast..so I hate this thing about it..and the rom made by razer..well it has sony xperial launcher in it pre-installed...so I didn't want it..So I am hoping for a clean rom with transparent bar and I personally prefer using data2whatever script..as I don't install too many apps...
