Hey guys!
I'm running the new froyo (rel:11 themed) and I am still having the same problem I have always had with android. On a real android phone one would go to settings> accounts and sync> add account> facebook. This would add my facebook contacts and should technically sync the profile pictures of my current contacts. The problem is when I click on "facebook", it just kicks me back to the main accounts and sync page. I really just want to update my current contacts with their current facebook pics. I know there are apps for it, but they are all pretty bad. Plus I should be able to just do it on my phone without any other apps. Let me know what the deal is and if you guys have have any suggestions.
Thanks
no one knows why?
people probably know why, they have probably answered it atleast a few times
the forum search is a beautiful thing.
if its anything like it was in eclair for some reason facebook only likes to sync with a certain phone (i think its the Dream). something needs to be changed for it to work K_K did this in his eclair build i dont think anybody has in Froyo yet
FYI
This may have already been posted but the new facebook app in the market will sync correctly with Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2.
Can't remember where, but I know I saw it in the XDA Developers forums.
Risk about sync with facebook is your contact database gets huge.
Some people have reported sizes of 50+MB for contacts, because of pictures, etc.
You might not want to do that... just stick with the google contacts.
i notice that it runs without any problems in cyanogen, but fresh froyo is still missing this feature, even after installing latest facebook 1.3.2! you can select adding a facebook account, but nothing will happen. and the possibility to sync after installing facebook and setting it up, is missing too. any ideas anyone?
already checked the forum and searches... no solution helped (clearing app-cache,e.g.)

Get the Google apps zip in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=722801
Then try adding the GooglePartnerSetup.apk to the install archive (use 7-zip) and reinstall.
No idea if it works but Fresh Froyo doesn't have all the Google Apps apk's unlike the CyanogenMod port and that one sounds like it could have something to do with it.
...starting! will post results...
used the latest un-odexed fresh froyo and added googlepartnersetup.apk... didnt do the trick. next step: adding all the google apps 2 see, if there is anything working then.
not working either... so its not depending on one of googles apks from that package.
Any luck with this? Having the same problem.
have you got the latest Facebook app from the market. It was suppose to fix the issue
yep, latest facebook doent do the trick either... no solution found yet!
Went in and changed background on facebook app and pandora...now my facebook account is gone and won't come back and pandora widget disappeared. All I did was change backgrounds...ideas?

Mine did the same thing running kaosfroyo v32. Not sure about Pandora, but for Facebook, go into the Facebook app, go to settings, then under other settings where it says sync contacts it probably says "don't sync". Change that and you should be good. You may have to go into your contacts and manually link them, but it should work. It worked for me.
You may have better luck with an answer if you post in the Q&A section, sorry I can't help you though. Hope you solve this.

My best suggestion would be to uninstall Pandora, remove your Facebook accts on Settings and resync Facebook. Make the changes you want, then redownload and install Pandora.
Had this issue as well for Transparent Chaos. A couple different things might help, one, rebooting. Two, make sure that when you change something in Market apks, it often helps, or is even necessary to sign the apks. Apk Manager is helpful for this (suggested by Daneshm90). So, all that combined with jsuh's suggestions should put you on the right track.
Can't seem to find an answer to this. I had to get a replacement DHD (1st one had a very loose camera) and really wanted to have a fresh start with the new phone - no apps, etc. Since I had the backup thing checked on the 1st phone, the 2nd phone reloaded all the apps from the 1st phone. I've tried the various resets (with backup turned off), but nothing gets me back to a blank, clean phone.
Keep in mind that I'm not talking about the Contacts or Gmail being pulled in (that's fine) - I just don't want the apps & settings from the 1st phone. Uninstalling the apps doesn't quite get me to a clean install. Anyone know of a way to delete/turn off that backup that's sitting in the Google cloud?
What are you running? 2.1 or 2.2

The stock 2.2 rom from DHD
I've had the same problem, and as far I know there is no way to do it. There is a simple workaround, but you will have to disable backup all together:
1. Reset your device,
2. When first time setup will come on, set up your DHD BUT dont enter Gmail settings (for now).
3. Once done go into 'Settings', then 'Privacy' and UNCHECK box next to 'Back up my settings' and 'Automatic restore'.
4. Once done, set up your Gmail account (either manually or starting 'Setup' from All apps).
This seems to be the only way for now, and to be honest I'm quite shocked there is no easy way to manage backups from a pc/phone.
PS: I hope there is a better way - if somebody know one, then please share it with us.
You could also just sign in with a new google account.

You could, but most of us would like to keep the "old" one (for obvious reasons).
There are 2 ways to do it. The reason why it reload all the apps is becoz Ur gmail ID stores Ur download list for the market.
1. When u hard rest don't sign in to gmail. Let the setup finish. Once that's done open market place, it will ask u to sign in. As soon as u complete the sign in go to downloads. There u will c ur apps installed list, which will start to download automaticly. Click on each one and cancel the installation. There, ur list is clean now. U don't really need to do a hard rest after this but should do just Incase.
2. Goto market then to downloads and uninstall every thing and hard rest and ur back to a clean phone.
as I had the same issue, The first method worked for me.

Same thing has been bugging me as well!!
i've posted a question on googles help forum,
See if that get any suggestions...
any real answer to this yet or is there some type of pc/phone management for this??
It should ask for restoring from Google account while setting up the phone.
Just after the location server setting, I think.
Then just uncheck it.

Yeah it seems like such a pointless addition. But you can try freezing with TB or something.

Any reason you need to remove it? It looks like it's just making the Google settings more open and easier to access.

remove google settings app
For those of you who prefer not to be sheep going to slaughter.
I unistalled google play services and that removed it from the phone. Not sure what else will be affected but I am still able to download/install apps from play store. I figure I may miss the next version of play store that comes out. Better than them sneaking stuff in. You may find the actual apk inside the google play directories. Please post if you do.
Also if anyone has ever figured out how to disable E911. If you dont want to disable yours that fine. STFU because your input is not needed ok. I dont want it on, period!!!
For the rest go ahead and follow the heard. [sheep noises....lol] !

Google Play Store and Goggle Play Services are not related. But it was a clever move with the names.
Google Play Services are the core to a host of future functions, especially to apps relating to social contacts, location related services and in particular (paid) games playing. Also, as many have detected already, with the 3. party sign-in control Google is able to watch and possibly control to whom and how you have contact with.
If you de-install Google Services, it will be auto re-installed in shortest time again in the backgound. If you happen to be on mobile data at that time, the bill is on you. If you disable or freeze Google Play Services, it will not be auto re-enabled. At least not as of now. But some functions of the phone and some Google apps like Hangout are made dependant on Goggle Play Services. So there function will cease.
More and more people are disgruntled about the way Google is doing things now. It is absolutely Googles own thing what apps they want to develop, and what functions they want to implement. But shoving down apps onto my property without my consent is not acceptable to me.
The people are not sheeps bcs they are forced to have things installed things they don't fully understand. I believe that many simply don't think twice, if something is (superficially) free, The strategies of companies like Goggle build on that fact.
Yep, it reinstalled. I will freeze it. But the sheep are the people that say one should accept it, or come back with tin foil comments etc. Those are sheep. I agree why force it on people? Esp from software the is supposed to be opensource. As one person posted somewhere it also redundant.
I know what you mean and I share your resentments. Albeit I fear there is nothing much we can do.
Google makes more and more Android functions depend on Google Play Service being on, and up to date. Just recently I registered that Calendar synchronisation now does not work with this "Services" disabled.
Unless someone makes a hacked version of that skunk.
As you guys may know, Google has integrated all their communication systems into the new Google Hangouts and it is started to rolling out.
Just wanted to let all root users know that you don't need to wait to get it as for some your Google Talk isn't being updated to Hangouts currently. Like if you have Talk currently and you go to the playstore and search hangouts it will say you already have it installed and you are updated to Hangouts even though you only have talk.
If you use something like Titanium Backup to uninstall Talk from your device, you can then go on to the playstore and be able to download and install the new Hangouts app.
I don't know if this has already been mentioned as I haven't seen a thread but just wanted to let people on to this little tip if you want to get it right away!
EDIT: I'm thinking now I might have probably posted this in the Themes and Apps forum, but I wasn't exactly sure if this should have been posted there as this is just a general tip. If any Mod wants to move this please do!

You don't need to uninstall Google talk... You can use the Web Google play to install hangouts and it will automatically replaces the old talk or obtain the apk file from the web and install it over the Google talk.

I agree. I really miss the who is online and who is offline thing. You can VAGUELY tell by the contacts picture being grayed out, but that sucks compared to a red dot. Hit the menu button in the hangout app and hit send feedback. Request for this feature to be put back in.
Had problem today
Solution: http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...s-cant-sign-updated-solution.html#post2789468
1.Use some app to take backup of Google Play Services (ES File Explorer can do it for you) and save the apk locally. This is recommended because after the next step you may not be able to connect and re-download the update over Mobile Data. It would work on WiFi however.
2.Go to Manage Apps > Google Play Services
3.Do "Uninstall" / "Uninstall Updates" for Google Play Services
4.Google Hangout will automatically ask you to Install or Update Google Play Services.
5. If you "Uninstalled Updates", then the app would update over Mobile Data when you click on update in Google Play. After this go to Step #8
6.If you "Uninstalled" the app completely, you wouldn't find it in Google Play. So install it from the backup created in Step #1.
7.Now go to Google Play and install any updates for Google Play Services.
8.Now open Google Hangout. It may still show you a connection issue for a couple for times.
9.Don't lose your heart. It should work after you try for a maximum of 1-2 times.
