Made my first post just to say thanks for putting up the screenshot. Simple, informative, and helpful. Can't tell you the number of threads I land on from searching, only to find the answer non-existent.
So... Thanks!

Thank you! The only app I was able to set file permissions with was Solid Explorer, since I couldn't figure out how to do it with the other apps. Your screenshot was extremely helpful. Here's another thread, with an in-depth tutorial on setting file permissions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857648. Hope that helps someone.
Root explorer works well, too.

It might well do but it will cost you €3.50 for the privilege, which might be ok if you were going to use it a lot but for a couple of files, No. Unfortunatly the free version is very basic and has not options to change permissions. Is there any way to do this from a pc, could you change the permissions of the file before you copy it to the phone or does it have to be done while residing on the phone or sdcard by an app installed on the phone.

You have to change the permission when the file is in the phone. Luckily, you can use an app called Total Commander. Its completely free and lets you do everything Root Explorer does and more. You can download it from the Google Play. You can also download various plugins associated with it for more features. Here is the link,
Total Commander - file manager

You have to find where the bootanimation.zip is already on your phone. I would suggest using Root Explorer or ES with root permissions. The reason I say to search for it is because mine was in a place where I hadnt seen mentioned before.
Anyway, once you have found bootanimation.zip you just replace it with the new one. You put the android_audio.mp3 in the same folder as the bootanimation.zip.
how do i install this original HTC BOOT ANMIATION and SOUND?

No you have to go to the folder system/customize/ and open the file CID default.xml in an editor. Find the line :
<BootAnimation animation="/data/local/bootanimation.zip"/>
in the file and change it to
<BootAnimation audio="/data/local/android_audio.mp3" animation="/data/local/bootanimation.zip"/>
this will fix the problem

i want to edit Quickpic's default icon and also the application name. i want to make it my default photo viewer instead of gallery3d. so can anyone help ??
In short i want to change the name and icon of Quickpic so that if i open my app drawer it should show Gallery instead of quickpic...
sorry for poor english
Decompile with apktool, go to res > drawable folder and replace the quickpic icon with the gallery one. It should be named icon.png or ic_launcher.png. Remember to keep the same name.
Next, go to res > values and open the strings.xml with notepad++.
Change this:
Code:
<string name="app_name">Quickpic</string>
into this:
Code:
<string name="app_name">Gallery</string>
Save, compile with apktool and install on your phone (remove the old one).
EDIT: Gonna try myself. If I make it I will post it here.
thanks...i will try it ...you also try
Made it but haven't tested yet.
tried all the things still it says application not installed...also deleted the old gallery still no hope
Did you try mine? I meant delete the old quickpic, not the gallery app.

Run CMD, type apktool and hit enter. If there's output, you have installed it properly. Close CMD and reopen it. Go here for a tutorial.
This is only for changin the name of the app. You can change the icon easily with 7zip or something similar.
maybe you have to sign the apk..

Some custom roms dont have the live wallpaper function enabled....Actually the file to make it work is deleted along with other files to make roms bareboned.
This is a guide to enable live wallpapers on those roms....
NOTE: Its not a very complex thing, rather quite simple and easy and nothing new.....but i found so many noobs and beginners with this problem. So I decided to come up with a guide.
Steps:
1. Download the attachment (LiveWallpapersPicker.apk), Put it on your SD.
2. Use a root explorer and move the file to "system/apps"
3. After moving the file long press on the LiveWallpapersPicker.apk and select permissions from the menu, then set permissions as rw-r-r- (see screenshot)

Hi
I hope you get this. I have a galaxy gear all rooted and with null 15 rom. I have everything set as per your directions. In fact it was already preset that way including permissions. Nothing works. Also do you happen to know what I can do to unblock bluetooth tether on my t889 note 2 . Thank you
hi. thanks for this tutorial. however when trying to apply a wallpaper the app crashes. ..
I'm running android 4.2.1
any help with this?
thanks!
nevermind , got the correct apk and now good to go, thanx!
same problem...
Any help with this again?
I was able to get it to work before, but now just fc.
Can't figure it out.
JB 4.2.1 (I think I have the right apk)
If anyone knows where to find the exact match, please post the link, as maybe this is the problem?
Pushed to system, changed perms etc.
I do notice that the LWP option under wallpapers is with "apps" not in a separate section as I remember it to be...
The only other thing I can figure is flashing a zip through recovery, but I don't see any zips for a LWP...
Doing this for my wife, as I got me a new device, help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi! Just like my apk thread, I pulled them from the stock Nexus 4.4.2 rom. Just navigate to system/media and use a root explorer to delete and replace! Now don't get curious and delete the entire system folder, ok? I'm not responsible if you do that.

British graphic designer Christian Tailor created this animation of stylized Marvel and DC Comics heroes and villains, and now you can use it as the boot animation on your Android device.
Christian works as a motion Graphic Designer specializing in information graphics, and his current clients include Al Jazeera and UK-based TV network ITV.
Graphic designer and Android theme maker Brian Roberts took Christian’s animation and turned it into a boot animation, originally.
I have resized it for the Nexus 6 (Shamu)
