hello i want to ask if theres is a completly safe(without hardbrick ) ics rom out there ?? if yes how i can fully root it ??
i am using cm9 and i want to enjoy the s pen applications and want official ics with a way to root it ..
i appeciate any help
IMHO the only safe ICS is the stock, but the problem is rooting it. The CF root is not safe. The safest thing would be to wait for a kernel that is not risky.
Currently there are no 100% safe ICS roms for NOTE. There have been reports of both XXLPY official ICS and ZSLPF official ICS being effected by a bug in eMMC which gets damaged while users wipe large amount of data. Read the public announcement please http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633943. This unfortunately includes CWM wipe data and Factory reset. Just stay on GB for now. I am using ICS my self but i am only staying here cuz i don't want to risk bricking my device going back on GB.

Well pretty much any GB kernel is safe as long as you haven't been effected by this bug. But there is no way to detect that. If you are completely sure that you haven't done any wiping of data or very heavy use of I/O, then you should be good to flash. But i don't want to take that chance because i have no warranty on my phone. That and if a patch comes along i can use it on a bootable phone but NOT on a bricked one. ICS is working pretty smooth btw. I am just not messing with large files and anything that includes wiping of data

1. CM9

Unfortunately you can't port the s pen apps to cm9, but there are substitutes.
I hope Samsung is already working on it

As long as the firmware that you want to flash is Stock, you will be able to update, but you will lose Root.
The Rom in your link is stock but from Taiwan, so the CSC will have limited update options in the future. More details are given in the original thread of this Rom here.
Hope that helped!
Yes thanks.. well as its newer than the LPY German, I just thought maybe it'd be better to install this one instead. What do you suggest?

I suggest not to flash a LPY Rom, there is high risk of bricking your device. If you are not so familiar with this i advice you to look around for details about the procedures.
IMO, flash via PC-Odin a GB Rom, or a Custom GB rom (Chrack's is the Best) and then if you want a custom ICS pick one of the new, such as MidTeam 1.3, CM9, RocketRom etc.
Hope i could help!
I see.. u think even the new Taiwan one LPF would be risky? Cause I read there are many things which are not working in CM9. About MidTeam and Rocket I don't know.. will have to look at them.

LPF is better and safer than LPY.
Since you want the LPF just flash it, many people say that it works fine.
To be clear here, i haven't tried it. I prefer CM9 but it's just a matter of taste after all!
Public Service Announcement:
DO NOT FLASH OR WIPE USING ANY ICS REPACK OR STOCK KERNEL
Not even wiping in stock recovery is safe with affected kernels. Almost all ICS kernels for the GT-N7000 are affected.

Please stay on GB for now... There is a bug on EMMC that effects all leaked ICS roms so far. Read the Public Service Announcment:
Even official LPF rom is effected by this bug.

There is nothing called the best rom.It really depends on what features you want and with what rom you feel comfortable. As of now,you have the following options for safe ICS roms
1.CyanogenMod9
2.Asylum ICS
3.MiUi
4.ParanoidAndroid.
5.And other ASOP/AKOP roms build on cm9.
The roms other than above are built on lp1,lp5,lpy or lpf F/W which has the potential to brick your phone.

If you flash Kingdroid, would you lose any of the S-Pen functionality? I've heard it does :S
I am using Galaxy Note for a long time. I was always far to the custom roms since they have various bugs mostly. But after a long time I changed my mind when i see the Paranoid Android rom. It is really cool with its Tablet/Phone hybrid functions and views. I can easily say that it is really smoother then the official ICS roms. And the battery, performance, speed, stability etc everything is just fine.
Maybe you can give a shot on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802
by the way it is a CM9 based rom and it is safe to use (doesnt have the brick bug)

Using Kingdroid NoteMania v3 with Speedmod kernel #k3-3.
S-Pen works great and so does all S-Pen enhanced apps
Battery life is good. Single charge gets me through the day with Exchange push mail, Gmail, Skype and Plume running all the time
Speed is fast. Of course, after you flash Speedmod kernel, it takes some time to settle down. Initially it may lag but as you use it and it creates the dalvik cache, it gets faster
TouchWiz5 is better than TW4 though I use NovaLauncher. There is no lag in either but I like the clean look of Nova over TW
Replaced Samsung Email with AOSP Email client and Samsung Messaging with AOSP Messaging. Now all messaging apps look homogeneous (Gmail, Email and Messaging)
Do not use Live Wallpapers as it hogs battery. I use a plain black wallpaper with screen brightness at ~70%. Still battery gets me through the day
Go to task manager and clear RAM once a day. Close apps you are not going to use for sometime
Cheers

Hi guys,
I was a bit confused about flashing and many questions stormed my mind.
Ok my current situation is like this --> I have a rooted galaxy note.
I am on stock ICS 4.0.4
I have kingdroid v3.0 and cynogenmod 9 with me.
I know basics of flashing and will be able to flash them.
My question is that,
Is kingdroid rom safe from the emmc chip bug?
Which method is safer- flashing through ext storage or through odin?
If kingdroid is unsafe, then is it really worth flashing CM9?
Thank you in advance.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
Kingdroid is based on CM/AOSP right ?
In order to flash that you need to be on GingerBread, GB is safe from the emmc bug so you wont have any issues.
flashing through CWM or ODIN are at the same safe / risk level, Theres a chance you can brick your phone using either.
However, You will only get the brickbug if you are on a Stock ICS kernel, You shouldnt encounter this as you will be flashing from GB.
Just follow the instructions on the ROM thread and you will be fine.

I agree with the azzle.
Steps:
-Dowgrade to GB
-Flash the abyss kernel [which will also "install" CWM]
-Wipe and flash a rom...

I dont know anything bout this Kingstuff, but CM9 is great, or paranoid rom if you want the tablet/hybrid mode stuff.

Hi,
I'm currently on stock ICS (4.0.4).
My phone has recently started occasionally/randomly restarting itself.
I've read that doing a factory reset or data wipe will result in a brick so was thinking of switching to a custom rom.
What's the best Jelly Bean rom? or isn't there a good stable one?
If not then what's the best stable/usable ICS rom and how do I get there from stock?
I know I need to flash GB via pc odin, but what after that?
There are warnings that say "FLASHING FROM STOCK ICS OR ROMS BASED ON STOCK ICS WILL RESULT IN A BRICK!"
I just wanna be as clear as possible. Would hate to have a brick.
Thanks.

JB roms are still in development and not so stable for daily use yet. For flashing custom ICS you do not have to flash GB rom, just flash safe custom ICS kernel and flash custom rom through cwm recovery.
You can also wipe your current rom after flashing safe custom kernel. No need to flash custom rom just because you cannot wipe on stock kernel
For my personal of view, liquid smooth jb v2.0 beta is the best at the moment.
If you on rooted ics. You can flash jb rom thru safe kernel such as cm9 kernel, gb kernel or notecore kernel.
But please read carefully and understand what noted at op and follow the installation method.
Good luck.

Now everybody knows JB is still under development and in preview. So I think you should have to wait for a stable version to enjoy the juice
For ICS you can try Cleanote v5,Kingdroid or RR for better performance and battery life

Here is the best thread for rooting and flashing custom kernel on Note- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
Once you are rooted and on safe custom kernel you can follow the instructions on your chosen custom rom OP.
In terms of safer installation method. It have too many of opinions around note forum. Some will say flash any rom or nandroid by using abssy 4.2 kernel, some will say not neccesary to use abssy 4.2 kernel with the secure and safe kernel exists such as notecore and speedmod kernel.
Some will advice you must go back gb before flash cm base rom and some will tell you totally bull**** and not neccesary to go back gb before flash cm base rom with secure tw kernel around.
Confuse? For me, all of them have the right opinion and nothing wrong with them. Thats your own smartphone which cost about usd 500. If you scare of something, just follow the long installation method. If you feel lazy to take do such of long intallation step, you can always use the secure kernel to swap in between gb, tw and cm base rom.
But anyway, is your own asset, your own choice. You are the one who will take full responsibility for doing any modification, rooting and flashing. Not anyone else here.
You can always refer dr.ketan advice.

Do not take shortcuts.. Always make sure you are on a safe kernel.. It only takes few more steps and few more seconds.. Before doing anything always grab a copy or keep a copy of a safe kernel in your device like Hydracore... So first step always its flashing the safe kernel then go advanced menu and reboot recovery... Then you can wipe everything and flash whatever
"guessing" something its safe its not a good idea... You gotta be SURE that you are indeed safe

have you got your answer yet? hhahahahaha..
they are both correct even they are arguing.. hahahaha
to the OP
if your ROM is based on Android 2.3.6 N7000XXLA4, then you are safe.
you can just boot into CWM and install the new rom.
Here's some advice, previously im using ics rom (xme) Malaysia based something... i already rooted and yes rom is original ics..
Later on i try to flash a new custom rom by the name panadroid (i forget but something like that), which in the article didn't wrote down that i need to flash to custom rom first such as cm9/10 etc.. later on i bricked my bloody n7000 (super bricked).. after i delete/reset factory data n dalvik cache bla bla...
I spent 20Hrs to get all the info n file (downloaded arround 20 different firmware) and lastly i get the phone working with Dr.Ketan and hg42 method but lost few Gb in the process..
What im trying to tell you is, make several research first before proceed flashing custom rom.. otherwise you will end up like me and others who lazy enough to use the search icon....
Anyway, best of luck to you..
P/s: i don't mean to be rude but guys... please
stop arguing.. a small favour from members asking gor help resulting two of you argued....:banghead:
