Hi all,
I'm facing a terrible problem that i could only realize this weekend when i had to travel to a far place that made me use my GPS for real.
I could only use it for like 10 to 20 min max... the phone gets the hell of hot and then hot reboots. After that i can use GPS no more that 5 to 10 min that it hot reboots again and again.
I use MOTONAV as my GPS app and also using latest CM7 rom.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
W.F

E.g. the Sygic Mobile Maps 10 v.8.24 works perfectly on CM7 for Milestone.

For me the problem persists; I think the GPS just reports too many connection drops, and this finally stalls the software (google maps, motonav, mytracks...).
I have found different software packages to present different behavior.
I have trouble running for example IGO and Mireo Don't Panic (I have to note though that mireo sometimes runs for more than 2 hours before crashing and rebooting the device).
So far the software I have found to be trouble free is Copilot.
Im having trouble keeping satellites locked, not having a lock/getting a fix. Any hjelp appriciated.

I also have problems with GPS. However it also seems my compass is not exactly correct and unstable. There seems to be some correlation. How accurate is your compass?

Haven't tested compass yet.
Progress with gps testing:
Tried several radios without wiping the cache first (no help with gps, wifi&data ok)
Now using nexus radio kb3, seems to work , have to test some more
KB3 (and KF1) also fixed the "always roaming" problem.
To get kb3 to function, had to (wipe cache +)flash kf1 first, reboot, (wipe cache+) flash kb3
At this point, the key for successful gps is to wipe cache prior flashing radio (modem)
Hi, tried your way also but no luck so far. Still think that the compass is of influence. Sometimes GPS works and then suddenly compass becomes unstable and is deviating and at the same time the GPS looses fix but still has satellites in view. I am getting desperate. will try some more.
Btw I am on titanium rom

ok, too bad . I'm not totally satisfied in the way things work just now but at least i can drive with waze on for 10km (the longest i drove today). Tomorrow more test while driving to the cottage almost 300km away.
I have had it working on some older versions of ics roms, but really don't want to go back there..

Try JVK,JVT,JW4,JVU modems (from Rom Manager it's easy)
Toivottavasti joku noista toimii kunnol myös gps:s!

Tried. Only with some luck.. GPS gets fix, keeps it for a while then loses fix and doesn't seem to get it back. Sigh.
Think I'm going totally stock or Darky's and test there. And then if things work like they used to, come back to ICS roms.

I'm getting good results with JVT. GPS locks pretty well( tested on bus yesterday).

All modems worked as badly.
Then I changed kernel to semaphore and was able to drive 160 km with only few times losing fix.
More testing needed though..

nice, try also glitch kernel=)
Hi!
I had tried different modems but none of them worked so the only solution I found was to open up my SGS and then do some hardware fixes....had to bend the connection "wire" of GPS. Now the contact between GPS and antenna is good, so this means I get the satellite lock in few second, even indoors!
Just search Google or Youtube and you will find how to do it.
Cleared all GPS stuff with GPS aids (yes I payed 2€ for it but was getting desperate)
and now it has been working just great for about 4 days.
I also flashed another ROM prior to clearing, and it (gps) worked ok after the flash. I'm not sure which or both did the trick but now it's working..
I'm currently on slim ICS and my modem is JW4.

GPS AIDS is a great app to improve your signal.in settings u can NTP server, its usually set to world or north America.change to your region.this will improve your signal significantly.

Please do a full backup. GB is a wipe ROM.
Its not true only GB roms give long battery life...xtralite rom and alliance rom gives equal battery life...and when tweaked properly..it might just give more..

I strongly disagree. It is try that first official ICS upgrades had unstable battery consumption, but somewhere around LQ2 it fit much better, and using the sane tweaks as on GB, i got the same battery life.

I found perfect configs for me. You can see my configuration lower at my signature.
Here is battery life:
http://i46.tinypic.com/1zo9101.png
http://i46.tinypic.com/mt6yba.png
1 day 2 hours and 46%
Bluetooth (always visible time-out) and GPRS\3G internet connection is always on. 30-40 minutes for internet browsing, Email sync every 10 min. 1 hour watching hd youtube videos with wifi. Playing games for about 1 hour I think. Live wallpapers and some widgets (live clock, calendar, weather and some others). Screen is always at maximum brightness. About 30 minutes of music with Astro Player. Phone calls (more than 30 min and sms). Some camera shots. Maybe something else I can't remember...

Swipepad was working flawlessly on s2, with gb then it was occasionally killed in background on ics with cm9, now on my note with ics, criskelo rom, it's almost useless, it's benign frequently killed in background, the hotspot are also laggy, is there a way to bullet proof this app from being killed,
Any help?

I am using it on Stock ICS. Seems to work fine. A little slow in starting actions at times though.

Does it gets killed in between,i mean you have to open the app to relaunch it?

Hasn't ever done that as yet.

On S2 was perfect, on Note I cant use hotspots on the sides, only on the squares, the other hotspots are not big in size for this res and fails continually.
The dev doesn't even answer the mails and even using the notification icon to avoid the kill of the program, it is laggy and slow.
Kersh
As far as the size of hot spot is considered the new update has provided the option to increase the size of hot spot
But
I'm having the problem of it being killed in the background though i use the notification icon to keep it alive,
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
SwipePad does have the option to set the size of the hotspots. And it works perfectly well on ICS. I am using it on stock LPA.

Well I'm happy it's working fine in ics, coz I'm so used to it, May be a reflash shall work it out, I'm on criskelo rom

I'll suffering too. Only the corners work. The edges are simply not responsive. And this has nothing to do with the app as I've felt the edges to be unresponsive in other apps as well.
The dev is as unresponsive
what i have noticed is that the back key kills the app,i think its the way ics works, it keeps at most 4 in the background, if some one would help me in preventing swipepad from killed in the background would be nice

this is my experience too. I´m loading everyday at work, so i have enough battery for the rest of the day
quite good
always on 3g ,1.5 h music ,40 sms ,some surf over 3g and wifi ( during lunchtime )
if i make a light usage ,i can manage to last 2 days , i'm quite satisfied
i last 3 days if i dont use wifi /3G and with second core disabled (i make it during trip)
i'm on CM7 Hybrid revolution by stefan.
I think your phone have a REAL problem, even if i try i just cant empty my batt in 2 hours (even with OC ,screen backlite maximus ,and playing riptide online.......i lasted 3 h)

i think it would make more sense to rate your battery life by stating how long the screen was on and on what conditions (wifi on/off/ 3g/ 2g/ brightness lv/ have you been watching video or playing games/ just typing sms or what ever)
my record was about 6h screen on time at 25% brigtness, 2g, gaming about half of that time. but i suspect the battery is getting old now, since i struggle to reach 3.5 h screen on time with the same conditions and much less gaming.
