[SOLVED]Missing ringtones - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I know,there is a few questions about this,but I didn't found the solution yet.
When I want to choose a ringtone, the list shows only "Silent" option, even tough, there are some items in the folders.
The problem is also when I want to choose notification sound and ringtone sound.
Maybe it has a dependency with Media scanner, which I have uninstalled unfortunately.
Please, how should I solve this? Maybe I can install Media scanner back, but don't have the apk anymore.
Edit: the same issue with alarms...

Is this the .apk you deleted?
Media provider:
http://db.tt/nZgC0Tqf
I assumed that is the one, if not let me know to check if I have it.
Hope that helps bro.

Hi,
I have had the same thing happen. I chose "Clear Data" under Settings->applications->All->Media Storage when I was trying to fix a different problem with the Music player having duplicates. It fixed that issue but seems to have taken out the ringtones and alarms. I have the German ICS Samsung update installed - can I still install the above apk to fix the ringtones?

Yesterday I have restored an old backup(CWM) and I took out MediaProvider.apk from there.
Then I have restored the current ROM and copied to system/app. Doesn't help. No media scanning after all.
So I will try to flash again my current ROM image(from zip) and then I will restore my apps. We will see.
With media scanner I did following:
- installed Root Uninstaller
- freezed MediaProvider.apk
- I was unable to unfreeze it,so I deleted that from system.
- don't really know,if the issue starts at this point or not.
EDIT:
I solved this by performing reflashing my custom ROM and restoring my apps with Titanium Backup.
Conclusion: Media scanner is important.

Apps crashing after new CyanogenMod 5.0.5.2

After upgrading to 5.0.5.2, WaveSecure crashes on startup and the Market crashes when I try to download something with "The application Market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
I've tried re-installing 5.0.5.2, but it's still not working.
Did you wipe? Or maybe fix uid mismatches (or whatever it is called) in recovery?
I'm having the same issue with Power Manager when it runs on startup. Just after inserting the pin code I get an alert to force close it. It kinda sucks actually...
Cherry Rplayer (which was the only radio app I could find a liked) crashes immediately when I launch it and 'A Online Radio' crashes when I first start my phone.
60 people have viewed my post and only got like one or two replies. No one will tell me are they using the latest cynogen mod and the same thing happens to them or not? Is there anything that can be done? Is this normal? Will those apps ever work if I keep the cynogen mod?
oh and spent the whole day trying to get my iTunes to the music player. Thought it was going to be fairly easy what with programs like doubleTwist - I looked into it before I got the phone - well holy crap what a nightmare!! Besides 19 of my songs being DRM protected, doubleTwist doesnt even work that great! Even with help from programs like Mp3tag songs are still not right with a few songs showing random cover art from other songs and a whole bunch of the songs saying 'unknown artist' even though the mp3 files are clearly tagged with the right song info!!!!!!!

I had to wipe in order to successfully instal the ROM. As for uid mismatches (or whatever it is called)- is that an option in recovery? What is that for what does that do? Will I have to reflash the ROM if I use it or will I loose in any data?
Wish everyone could be a little more informative to the newbies...
I've searched but cant find any info about apps force-closing, why that happens, or what can be done to correct the problem...
I am having the exact same problem with the Market FCs every time I try to install an app. I am currently troubleshooting the issue and I'm running CM 5.0.5.
So far I've..
re-flashed Google Apps add-on -> no luck
wiped Dalvik-cache -> no luck
factory/data reset then restore -> no luck
UPDATE: fix apk uid-mismatches cleared up the problem. Thanks jsapp! Boot into recovery (I'm using Amon v1.7), select Other and you should see the option.
Thanks jsapp and travon802!!! fix apk uid-mismatches now I have streaming radio again!!

For others who've experienced this, are you using MyBackup to backup/restore apps?
Only had four or five Apps but yeah I used my backup. I think it didn't backup a few of them and had to redownload from the market...
The reason I ask is because I can reproduce this issue of the Market FC'ing by restoring any app using MyBackup with the root option turned on.

[Q] Medscape app uninstall and cleanup

I tried posting this in the app and themes forum but had no luck, I have an issue with the Medscape app. I wasn't able to update the library so I uninstalled the app and manually deleted the library files from me Medscape folder, later I learned that the update problem was because of the adblock app. I solved that and tried to reinstall Medscape, so far so good. When I try to re install the library files, the app tells me theres no update available (???) and it shows the current files as if they are installed, but the folder is still deleted and when I try to look up something in the database, nothing comes up.
Is there a way to wipe completely the Medscape db registry so I can do clean install?
Thanks a lot

I had the exact same problem and I wasn't able to solve it... Only a factory reset did it...
I'm not root but if you are root go to /data folder and delete medscape info from that. I think it might work.
The problem is that you deleted the Mescape folder from your SD card but it contains a database file (maybe the index of articles) so anything you search returns nothing!
The solution would be to delete that old account information and data, and I think it resides in the /data folder but I can't confirm that because I'm not root.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. Nothing related to medscape on the /data folder. I'll keep looking or I'll clean install when I flash Gingerbread

Having similar Medscape problem, this time I cannot delete Medscape pics/icons in my Gallery. Practically FC's whenever I try to open.
These are .PNG files - is there a trick to delete these?
===
UPDATE: I discovered that I could delete one of the PNG pics in the Gallery folder but not delete a second one - the Gallery app would freeze. It actually required a power ON/OFF to "reset" the gallery folder (whose ("number of files") did show that the pic was indeed deleted) and permit me to delete another image. For some reason, as I was fiddling with the FILES app, a Medscape folder popped up (it hadn't appeared before) and it had hundreds of low-kb files in it, including the PNGs. Luckily I was able to delete this Medscape folder without a hitch... other than the 2 minutes it took to actually delete. And wouldn't you know it: my Epic is running faster than ever. What is in that Medscape app I wonder...

My issue is another,
I m using SG2 rooted, i removed my ad blocker and re install Medscape.
So i finaly managed to start instaling the resaurces .... the resaurces started from 1 of 24 ...and downloading ...
Is it logical to keep downloading ...after the 24 ... has been downloaded already?
for example 34 of 24 ...and keep going??
Hi!
I've a problem when trying to update my Medscape app. When I try to get ref updates, it suddently appears: "Not able to complete download at this time"
I've read this post , where they speak about ad blocking apps causing this problem, however I'm using cyanogenmod CM11 M12, without any apps of this kind, more over, I searched for Hosts file, and when I open it, there's only this line: "127.0.0.1 localhost". I don't know what else to do, I've tried unistalling the app, cleaning all data before so, In deed, I've also tried to do a clean install of CM11 M12, with no luck.
Wish you could help me!

Duplicated images thumbnails...

This has been happening for awhile and I know it happens to others. I believe it only happens when my phone is rooted (always happened if I kept my sdcard in while rooting).
Ive running offical froyo 2.2 rooted. Basically all my photos and videos (external sd) thumbnails become duplicated or even more. Theres still only 1 real image but gallery will display x3x4x5 of the same thumbnail. Does anyone know a permanent fix to this? Only way I've been able to resolve it is by deleting the thumbnail folders via my pc.
go to
settings
applications
manage applications, then touch "All" at the top of page.
scroll to Media storage and touch it
clear data and force close (clear cache may help too but I never had to do cache for this fix to work)
then reboot.
It should solve the problem.
or install SGS TOOLS from the market and apply the script ^clear_thumb_db.txt^

Not work for me
Ressurection remix 2.1 on SGS2,when setup mms configuration and send mms, images duplicate in gallery ,cear data ,force close and reboot but problem not solved.
Any other solution?
PS. sorry for my bad english and thanks for answer

Wrong path to SD Card

Hello,
Something goes wrong at my ROM. I installed an app to fix the writepermission. It works, all things fine. But then I played with some apps to customize my ROM and suddenly an freeze and then an reboot. After this my es Explorer tells me "path not found". The sdcard symlink goes to /mnt/media_rw/sdcard1/. The other path to access the sdcard are /sdcard1/ /storage/sdcard1/
This works but not the symlink. I can also access the sdcard with Apps like Google+, picture Album or other. Only the Explorer won't work.
I try to change the /system/etc/permission/platform.xml but won't work. (I copied the stock file from the rom zip)
Can anyone help me to fix this? I don't want reflash the rom. I'm at Holiday and no wifi to update all the apps again. [emoji33]
Thanks
Greets Lars
Start your phone without sdcard, then put it back. See if this works. Try uninstalling the apps that messed your phone.
Nothing works. I make an Backup of my Apps and data and make an reinstall. Problem solved.

[Q] Music player (or maybe other apps) keeps reinstalling itself.

I don't like the stock music player app (see below) so the first thing I did after I gained root on my phone was remove the app with Titanium Backup. It was working fine until I've upgraded to EMUI 3.0. I'm still able to remove the app, and everything works fine, but when I reboot the phone, the stock music player keeps coming back haunting me. It's quite frustrating because the stock music app is interfering with other music players, and there is no othe

have you tried to set other music app has default in emui 3 settings?
but if you want to remove a system app here it is... (it's a common problem with emui 3 kernel)
-unlock bootloader
-flash hrt kernel
-root the phone and remove set_immutable.list
-remove any other system app with titanium backup
-reflash stock kernel if you want (set_immutable.list and system app previously removed never come back)

Hi!
Changing the default music app in the settings had no effect for me. I don't know why. Even though I changed the default app to be GPM, every time I pressed the pause button on the lock screen the huawei music player would start up...
In my opinion there should be no reason to have a setting for the default music player app. The default should be the last used. Having a default app would only work if I wanted to use only one audio player. But I like to listen to audiobooks as much as music, so I alternate between a music player and an audiobook player, and I expect to be able to control both of them. It just seems logical to be able to control the last one.
Aaaaanyway.... I was able to remove the Music player apk permanently thanks to your suggestion. I'm not sure why though. The set_immutable.list is removed permanently now, but it doesn't seem to had anything to do with not being able the music player. I might be wrong, but shouldn't the files listed in the set_immutable.list file should be only immutable? The music player apk wasn't listed, and the immutable flag wasn't set on the apk either.
Btw, I managed to remove the set_immutable.list file from recovery (CWM), there wasn't any need to flash a different kernel. But your idea helped me a lot, I would have never tought about the set_immutable file.
I was mistaken, the music player is back... It seems that this has nothing to do with immutable flags or whatever.

The immutable list is still present n the system. It will always install everything that is installed by default at every single boot unless you delete the list itself. You can find a guide in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ascend-p7/help/how-to-root-emui-3-0-t2975877

But the list isn't there. I just checked. Anyway, I'll try it tomorrow, but let's just agree on how ridiculous this behaviour from huawei. They should put their effort in creating an usable rom, not making people suffer who want their phone be more friendly...

As the linked thread states there are more ways to put back the files. If I recall correctly in EMUI 3.0 there is also one in the bootimage.
What I did was flashing the B608 bootloader, rooting, removing the list file, and then I was 100% rooted.
