[ROM] [p4wifi] [10/11/2012] CyanogenMod 10 Nightly Kangs

PREFACE:
THIS IS A COMPLETELY UNOFFICIAL KANG OF CYANOGENMOD 10. I DO NOT CLAIM THIS AS MY OWN ROM, I AM ONLY BUILDING IT.
IF YOU BRICK YOUR TABLET BY FLASHING THIS, I WILL CRINGE A LITTLE BIT, BUT STILL BE UNABLE TO HELP YOU. FLASH THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
ALL CREDIT GOES TO THE CYANOGENMOD TEAM AND PERSHOOT FOR HIS GALAXY TAB SPECIFIC STUFF.
Sorry for saying I was back, then disappearing again... I have a tough schedule now in college, and keeping up with this project got put aside, but now I think that things are under control!
Just like my CM9 builds, this is completely stock, NO cherry picks by me. All it is is pure, untouched, beautiful, tasty, jelly beany goodness served hot off of my processor and straight to your hungry tablet!
You can expect this to be built everyday by me, at varying times. (Generally sometime in the afternoon, but as I said: varying!) As I don't quite have the time to test every build, I'll be relying on you guys to report bugs so that I can list them here.
So far, NOT WORKING:
Nothing! (As in, as far as I can tell, everything works!)
I will not be including my own change log, but you can find the changes as they happen here on the CM Gerrit Review. I will only be including changes that are merged to the master source. Look at this post if you don't understand what that is, or don't know how to read it.
Remember, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP of your ROM BEFORE you flash this, then WIPE DATA/CACHE, and I would recommend wiping the Dalvik cache as well! Then you can install the ROM, then flash the GAPPS package.
If you choose to dirty-flash -- or flash the ROM without wiping (this is generally OK but don't yell at me if it crashes a lot) -- you should still wipe the Dalvik cache. It takes two seconds and can save you plenty of headaches!

Yeah, I just noticed that the WiFi isn't working. I'm working on a fix right now, should be all better tomorrow if I can figure it out. Might have to use some old stuff from Pershoot.

Don't worry! I'm not gone or leaving you guys! I haven't been able to fix it yet, and Pershoot hasn't made any updates for the jellybean branch of the 10.1... I could build CM9 for you guys all day long, but that's boring (plus I'm sure someone else is already) and I'd rather work on CM10. I'm going to update as soon as I have a working build!

again, what is the point of this (as i asked the other poster in the other thread)?
are you fixing bugs that have not been tackled yet? if so, have you sent pull requests for review to me?
if the answer to the above is no, and just merely building from sources i upload to github, this will cause mass confusion, as now there's random builds floating around all with different snapshots in time, and will surely deter proper testing.
if you want to help, please start working on the remaining bugs. this is a community effort and not a race to see who can get out builds faster.

Why a thread? I finally got my builds (and computer) roughly where I'm satisfied with, with no major issues, other than the usual for our phone. Now that I'm tweaking/troubleshooting the source, trying to fix the playback issue, (and CM's no longer supporting our device and pushing commits without regard for us ), there's a lot of variables in the mix. I've also made my computer into a build bot with a nightly script to compile. All this might or might not break my compiles, and I'll get feedback a lot quicker if something breaks. Also, I'm tired of troubleshooting by myself; this way, I get a wider range of testers.

Probably not as quick or smooth. CM7 was stable and fully supported and integrated. CM10, while compile from source still, is taking different components of source that weren't quote meant for us.

Been running this since I discovered it this morning. I'd say it ranks right up there with your great 7.2 kangs, which by the way were my favorite. Runs fast and smooth for me. Thank you!!!

I doubt the speed will ever be as fast as cm7 due to the reasons pons gave and our GPU is really outdated and jellybean has high dependency on GPU for ui.

Tiny do you know how to fix video bug...... Albinoman i tried the zip you gave me and Zimeron and it just gave me a black screen on boot

So with the stock email app removed I can't sync my exchange contacts from work. Should I install the stock app or is there a better one to get my contacts?

I modified my device tree to pull and compile from tiny's incredikernel source (which is currently on his beta2 point). After it was compiled with/for the ROM, I then took the kernel, put it in the prebuilt folder, and made my device tree use the prebuilt one faster compile times. See Integrated kernel building - CyanogenMod Wiki and my device tree if you're curious.

I don't use Exchange at all, so I can't test. You could try the stock Exchange and/or E-mail app, or Aqua Mail. If they don't tie in, I'll put Exchange back in tonight to see if that fixes (again, I can't test, so will rely on feedback, please).

I am using Aqua Mail for my corporate email and it works great, but it doesn't sync contacts. I can put the stock email back in so you don't need to mess with your builds unless others are requesting it too. Thanks for the great work!

I'd try put in the Exchange app first (that's the one that probably does the exchange contact syncing, not e-mail) to see if it works, then the E-mail app. Let me know if it works or not.
Edit: New build up. No excitingly new features, just CM changes. Always check around this time for a new build to be up. I won't advertise it (since I'm going to be compiling them nightly, and don't feel like spamming my own thread), unless there's a substantial change/fix (like video playback). I also applied for Goo Manager Developer status, which I'll hopefully get. That way, ya'll can get OTA notifications through the Goo Manager app, at which point, I'll include it in the ROM (and that will be the only non compiled-from-source part).
In order for CM10 to fit on the Inc, I might have to fork the vendor_cm repo, which is where most of the extra, unneeded packages cal their configs from. That way, I can strip out even more, and fit the Exchange app back in. I'm already using the generic config, (as opposed to full_phone), and the small langauges (instead of all of them). Not much else, if any, I can strip out just using the device tree like I've been. I'm trying to avoid forking further trees, and keep it pure CM, but I'm running out of room (and thus, options).

I've never compiled or ported an AOSP-based ROM, thus the following question.. With the newer Sense ROMs (2+), one of the steps would be to symlink parts of /system to /data/sys/ to "make" room for the larger system partition of the original device. Is that not a viable option with this kind of build?

I'd have to look at the partition scheme a little closer to answer you fully, but it should be feasible. I don't particularly want to do it, though, for the same reason CUViper didn't symlink /data/data to /data. Just not a choice I'm comfortable pushing on the Inc community, especially without lots of testing to make sure it works with no ill effects. Also, I forked the vendor_cm tree and stripped out a lot of audio packages, so it shouldn't be necessary. We'll see.

Yeah, I see what you're saying about the potential for unexpected issues. I just figured that it might be worth mentioning being as how it worked for us when Sense got to be too large for our devices.

[ROM] [4.1.1] OFFICIAL codefireX Jellybean Nightlies

These are official codefireX JellyBean Nightlies brought to you by Synergy(e) and TeamCodefire. These use official CM device repos and are built from source nightly. THIS MEANS IT HAS ANY BUGS THE CM10 NIGHTLIES HAVE.
codefireX is a CM10 spinoff with the goal of providing additional power-user features (contained in the codefireX settings panel) while still maintaining full upstream CM compatibility for automated CM merges daily for the nightlies. This means the nightlies are fully up to date with the CM10 nightlies, however you get additional features as well! The codefireX settings panel will become more populated with features as this project progresses, and more device nightlies will also be added.
The codefireX github is HERE. Changelogs are not available, however you may use github (always current). The maintainer for this will not respond to questions on this thread, so please help your fellow android user out or visit twitter/IRC

Are you kidding? Its a CM rom, why would you need screenshots. It doesnt say its themed. And if you dont know how to install a nightly chack in CM thread.

Well I suppose the most interesting thing is the codefireX settings panel, which I guess will be pretty similar as what we can find on other devices. (Changing DPI, tablet mode, battery style...). It seems like an alternative to AOKP. I would be glad to try it too, but indeed the download link is broken

Rom installed, I quickly tested the codefireX settings panel. (The main change I suppose from original CM10). Of course it is too early to provide a full review. Being a fan of AOSP roms, I will spend some time on this new rom. It is interesting for people looking for a bit of extra-customisation without getting too complex.
Before people start posting 'Hey youtube does not work in landscape mode', this rom is using the new HW Composer, you need to use an app like 'Screen Filter' to watch fullscreen videos until this is fixed by CM10 team (When the kernel source will be released I guess).

People this rom is fing good.
We are looking at a team with a very high level of coding knowledge and are very well organised (10 different devices on the go at once).
I first had contact with synergye and the team on the HTC velocity. Man what a difference they made. Took the stock thing and turned it on its head. In particular the kang bang kernel, always built with the latest and best parts and coded to perfection. He made loads of different changes most notably sound improvements and battery life increase and his own scheduler with a really good deep sleep. I think at one stage synergye put in fifty hours straight into that device. Only to find out that device was dead in terms of development, I am so happy I got an sgs3 now that this has landed I am busting.
Anyway I digress.
This rom so far is very good, stable as a rock and well implemented.
The codedirex system options are very usefully no unnecessary nonsense. The prop moder has some good options for system tweaks. One of my favorite options is the kill all button you can add to the recent apps screen. The rom uses a minimal amount of ram. The sound levels are spot on and sound great.
Seriously I could ramble on for ages.
The last thing I am gonna say, and I am in no way affiliated with the group, swing these block's a donation if you can. The quality of work is second to none and always coded to the highest standard. I have donated in the past and I will do so again.
Also I am not saying that other developers are below par in anyway, ie teamasek is one of the most up to date devs I have seen. A release almost everyday. Wow.
I am just giving an account of my experience.

Id have to agree with everything you say - easily the most impressive ROM i've tested since leaving stock. Any outstanding bugs in the CM10 tree were barely evident whilst running this ROM. I'm waiting for SuperNexus build 3 then i'll be back onto codefireX nightlies.

I decided to build somewhat of nightlies as Evervolv with Android 4.2 is in a very usable state. Since these are nightlies there may be severe bugs at any time. I will not be taking bug reports unless you can provide adequate logs. I am mainly just building nightlies and trying to fix device specific issues where I can.
Do not use 4.1 gapps. Please use the ones listed here for now as they are for 4.2 and stripped down.
Items that need attention: (Not working or buggy)
BT audio seems messed up too, not sure if it works in phone calls yet, it does connect to a headset
Camera preview is glitchy - use a different camera app if you don't want a glitchy camera - IE try Camera ICS

Right now the current source we are working on is Jellybean (Android 4.2.x).
For those that don't know what evervolv is, Evervolv is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) rom. We're fully open sourced and encourage it with no restrictions. The work put into this rom is community driven and and Evervolv Project is made up of numerous members and contributors.

Right now the current source we are working on is Jellybean (Android 4.2.x).
For those that don't know what evervolv is, Evervolv is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) rom. We're fully open sourced and encourage it with no restrictions. The work put into this rom is community driven and and Evervolv Project is made up of numerous members and contributors.
Below is the "Not working" or items that are buggy list. I'm going to keep it short and simple for the time being and let ya'all figure bugs out, and I will update this.

EV Gerrit has been down all day today

Working on fixing storage force closing. I'm kind of disappointed as with something this big I'd expected more comments by now. Though this is fun to have to struggle over and attempt to fix issues.

Probably because there are very few of us left... I'm waiting til there is something that is perfect to replace this.. I have had it since day 1 (pre-order) 1 year contract.. so I have been out of contract for a year and a half and am buying the next phone full price to retain the unlimited data. So if I'm spending 700 or so it better be damn near perfect.
As this has been... and mine is still in perfect shape.

I was at work today, so just seeing this now. I also didn't figure we'd see 4.2 at all or anytime real soon. Just blows me away at the length of time we have managed to keep the OG Dinc ahead of the pack.
I will download in a few days, in the process of moving right now. I originally had my heart set on the Inc4g, but the crap VZ was pulling with their new plans and the locked bootloaders, made me hold out. Those guys got it unlocked, but then I saw the DNA come out. That thing has some serious specs, and is smooth as hell but damn, I just can't wrap myself around the size of it yet. Well, I guess for now, when guys keep coming up with Roms to put on our Dincs, hell, theres no hurry to go anywhere.

Can I flash this over your cm10 or should I Wipe first?

Nice job. WiFi works here haven't tried Bluetooth. Noticed lock screen settings are not included. Has new camera with pinch to zoom preview is unstable but pics are OK. If i have time I'll see if 4.12 gallery works. Haven't added gapps yet

Yeah I 2 am thinking of the inc 4g lte, are you saying it can't be rooted and do what we do with this Inc? I was unaware.
So does anyone have the list of things that so far don't work at all or don't work well? I'm antsy but this time of year I need the phone to work and bluetooth to work too since I do snow removal for work.

I got as far as figuring out that gapps from 4.1 don't work. Then I called it quits and went to bed. It did boot though without gapps installed, it definitely ran slower than 4.1, but I didn't hit any showstoppers in the five minutes I played with it last night. Got it running now with a stripped-down gapps from goo. So far, so good.
And for those who are dying to know, the camera takes good pictures, has glitchy preview, and trying to record video causes it to FC.

Yes there are new gapps in the op because they are linked to /data because /system is to small

Actually I fixed that all up if you looked in my gapps and ROM package you would know. The ROM is in /system entirely and the gapps get flashed to system.

The list depends on the community to test. I can't test phone calls and haven't been able to test bluetooth in calls for the same reason but bluetooth seems to work and my headset did connect.

System. They always do. I just had a test gapps that didn't get posted anywhere. Then I made a smaller gapps package. Didn't you read my post?

Gave this a try last night and got to play around with some of the new features. Exciting! I'm glad to see that so much progress has been done on 4.2. Over the past month I'd heard multiple times that 4.1 might be the end of the road for the DINC.

How to Build this ROM
1) Setup Your Computer
Stop at
Code:
$ mkdir ~/android
$ cd ~/android
2) Download Source and Compile!

$ mkdir Carbon4.4
$ cd Carbon4.4
$ repo init -u https://github.com/CarbonDev/android.git -b kk
$ repo sync
$ . build/envsetup.sh
$ lunch (then select device from the list)
$ make carbon
3) Wait till it finishes and grab the zip from the out directory.
*Note: Syncing the repo will take a long time (downloads about 15 gbs of source), depending on your internet speed.

Update: Took my time to test it, restore my apps, test them and mess a little with the options.
Update 2: After spending even more time with the newest release, this is practically a 0 issues ROM. I'll update my review along with new releases.
My micro SD 32gb works perfectly, if you have a 64gb card I would recommend to be formatted as "exFAT".
Smooth ROM and good RAM usage.
Packed with awesome features and I know there's more to come, CarbonRoms has A LOT of features. From changing status bar colors(and it's icons) to edit the menu and back buttons lights duration and remap the buttons(love it), see screenshots in the OP to have an idea.
No issues at all restoring my apps with Titanium Backup.
Stylus is working perfectly and this ROM has the Buttons settings for our device.
Camera is now working perfectly and more features are being added!
*Remember to do a full wipe clean install.*
Two things I want to mention, they're not annoying and they do not break the ROM at all.
*Interface option under Carbon Fibers crash, however given the fact that you guys are still merging those nice features I think it's kinda obvious. That's why I don't consider this annoying, nor ROM breaking, is just a work in progress. I thought I could mention this so no one get scare about it.
*This one is not even an issue is just a question, I use this device in landscape mode all the time, and every time I turn off the screen it rapidly rotates the screen before shutting down. There's no option for the effect to select or to turn it off, my question is: Is that one of the features to be added later within carbon fibers interface? I apologize, I used Carbon a lot with my N7 flo but I can't remember where that option was located.

I found out about that crash during my 2 minutes with this rom..I'm assuming its because of them not finished merging stuff yet. I also see multiwindow and halo both on their gerrit so I'm guessing they'll merge those when its stable
I'm not sure since I've never used Carbon before, but I think what you are talking about is describing the bug thats in all of our roms. Its just the animation right? if you turn the screen back on, it stays in landscape mode? Can't test it because I'm not using this rom right now
And also, not sure if you noticed yet, but the back camera doesn't take photos..I'm almost 100% sure CM broke something in the common device tree because the back camera works in omni, so right now I'm figuring that out and transferring all the files to our own common device tree instead of using the one shared by all the smdk devices.
Edit: Confirmed interface crash is due to a recent commit. Should be fixed soon.

Yeah is the animation, I was just curious about it, it doesn't bother. The camera thing actually it doesn't bother me either because I can take pictures with any camera app from the app store.
It may be a work in progress, but for a initial release of this beta is pretty darn good. I'm still using it and I think I'm gonna keep it, I've been a huge fan of Carbon for awhile.

New build is up with some relatively big fixes.

ROM is running great and yes it fixed the Carbon fibers, the camera still freezing thou(the ones on the playstore works btw).

Really? For me the back camera doesn't freeze anymore..only the front.

Sorry for the late reply, yes I too can confirm the camera works, I dirty flashed(just cache and dalvik)the update. Later on I did a full wipe clean install to make sure and voila. So now we can surely say there's no issues on this ROM.

For me, only both cameras work in snapchat, hangouts video, oovoo, and skype...so far (same as the apps that worked in omni)

Nice! I'm noticing a lot of movement in the gerrit, those are good news. Carbon was my one of my favorite with the Nexus 7 flo, and I'm still surprised by how well and smooth it is on the Note 8, to be honest I wasn't expecting this ROM here, hence why I'm so excited.
