Pretty straight forward..the speakers on these devices are far from great..I recently refurbished my HTC EVO 4G and of course I had to find some way to recycle these parts..
I took apart my nook and placed the Speaker from my HTC EVO 4G on the contacts direcrly on the board. I used some tape to hold it in place..then re assembled.
.imgur.com/63SNj.jpg
This is a picture of the two speakers side by side..HTC speaker on the right in the stock location ..
Also what I did was unfold the contact leads on the speaker..I didn't need to do tht..but I will order a new speaker and do a proper write up..
I used the DSP app and adjusted the levels..
Its all proper now...

$3 on ebay!!!!
yeap..its pretty straight forward and super cheap..i just layed the speaker on the contacts and held it in place with doublesided tape..so when i reassembled it wouldnt move..
played around with the DSP settings and BOOM!!..
i havent gotten around to ordering a new one..but i did get it a touchstone charging kit that was dumb cheap and this weekend i plan on tackling that task ..which will give me the opportunity to get in there and take better pictures..
putting this speaker in is about as easy as legos..
the nook was designed pretty well and much like the HTC phones..

There's a problem with going that route. You're still using the same crappy speaker, just making it louder, and if you make it too loud for the speaker, it sounds terrible.
If you are using CM 7 on the nook color there is an app on the playstore called "nook tweaks" that will boost your speaker volume. It has all kinds of functions for the external and internal speaker.
Does it go to 11 now?

We just got our first batch of SD cameras for the XDA PocketPC phone and it sold out fast!
We will receive another batch before the end of the month, so you may want to order one today before those are gone too.
With this SD camera YOU DON'T NEED SDIO, so it works perfectly with the XDA. You can even record video!

it dont seem to stay secured in the slot!
a regular sd card locks-in, but IT slides right out, even
after u here that little click, when u push it in.
any idea why?
other than that, its very nice!
i hope they make a 1.3/2.1 mp soon

I was almost considering ordering one of these, but the camera has no flash, which is the problem with a lot of the camera phones.
A friend pointed out if I were to spend $80 for it, I might as well put in a little bit more money and get a cheap digital camera.
Basic line is this. Camera phones are finally evolving and new ones come with a flash. To be honest, you REALLY need a flash with these things.
I just saw a tiny camera at Fry's that does video, 1MP stills, has flash, and a built-in display LCD. $90. Might as well just get that and swap the card into the XDA if you want to copy/send photos. This camera is too little for too much. It's too big to really be any particular space saver. Is it even safe to carry around in the device all the time (couldn't it release and fall out if bumped)?
i have one of these, paid £59 from ebay, but it doesnt lock into the sd slot. any advice on making it stay in or it will get lost.
Smallboy... why not try the bodger's favourite... a small wodge of "blue tac"! - this works for me for my tom-tom car cradle (along with a couple of screws at the bottom of the cradle)
Theoretically you could place the blue tac between the xda body and camera, which would give it some "grip" but yet easily removable.
not a bad idea m8, but i use the sd slot with a 256mb card for my navigator maps and mp3's
SD camera for XDA

I don't think most people here are ready to drill and tinker with their $700 phone anytime soon...though that's a pretty good mod.

But if you have installed any of the cooked ROMS using hard SPL, you have already said goodbye to your warranty anyway. So what is the difference ?
Olipro has described a method to revert to original ROM and SPL...just for those "warranty" issues. I'm sure I've read it into one of the Diamond ROM section topics, so there's no problem with that. But for this operation (described here to improve the sound), you have no return...though, I do believe it'll improving the sound a lot...but also it'll help to get a lot of dust inside your phone
Warranty? I would have thought you would just replace the cover with a new one should the need arise.... Anyway a somewhat interesting post, although the issue of dust and whatever else getting inside the phone has kind of turned me off unfortunately. Thanks for sharing.
i wont!
I wont do that to my phone!!

of course it works, and of course its louder
all ur doing is removing some of the shielding and case... is it really that hard to work out?
Warranty is now voided, and u will now have loads of **** in ur phone. congratulations.
I never listen to music/radio without my headphones... I have no doubt that it can improve the overall sound but... it's kinda barbaric + it leaves enough space for more dust and stuff... hope it works for you guys!
This looks nice, i bet the part with the 3 holes in the case it's not that necessary. Can someone who did this leave some feedback ?
While I'm sure this works I'm still not convinced that this is the only solution for the ****ty loudspeaker.
I know there is the audio something tweak which helps a bit, but for instances, some alerts such as my alarm (alarm 5) and my "you got message" alerts are shockingly loud, like scary loud.
But then you get the in call loudspeaker and the video playback which are whisper quiet. Frustrates the hell out of me
I'll do this once my Diamond is out of warranty.
If you are worried ab out dust getting in, just glue some kind of filter to the inside of the holes, such as womens stocking or fine mesh...it's not difficult
I'll do it to, after 1 year and 11 months )
hi guys... sorry for making another topic.... seriously i m screwed up... i decided to buy sound magic mp 21 but i couldnt find any online stores in india...
so i decided to leave it .... please find any other good quality headset(with mic)....
budget ~ 1k INR
I'd recommend you to head over to head-fi.org and check there for headphones for iPod/iPhone. People around here say that they work on Defy too.
Maybe after you find a model, you can go check it in a showroom or order it from an online shop to which you can easily return them.
Cheers!

hi,
Even i m also looking for the same but i dont want the blutooth.
I would like to have a microphone too to answer calls...
Please somebody suggest one that is available in india and works with Defy.
Budget is not a problem
Recently got a Philips SHP2000 (Without Mic though).. Believe me Defy+CM7+SHP2000 makes a great combo if you are a music enthusiast with love for Deep Bass.
using nokia x6 headphones...gre8 quality
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
but which headset have microphone (with switch of course) and loudness control ?
The default headset provided by motorola is also fine .. But i want the inear type earphones as the normal ones wont fit in my ear. So suggestions for 'inear' type non bluetooth earphones for call and music .... ??
Thanx for your reply ...

u don't need it to wear it like that. they are not built for that. if you want, then try the m6p.
i tried it now and the phones are uncomfortable, and the mic is to close to the ear. the m9p should be use cable down. eod.
there are enough reviews on the net, and everyone is exact.
for example: http://www.head-fi.org/t/474164/meelectronics-m9p-extended-impressions-pseudo-review-56k-warning
use hs u350 headphone set from htc
this is 2 piece handsfree, use the microphone cable and any earphone u like, it wrks fine. i already posted this in the accessory section, costed me 10 pounds, worth it
"http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381672"
i just got m9p... quality is just ok(not bad/not very good)
the best feature is mic is near to mouth.... u will not need to keep the mic to ur mouth with ur hand to speak to others in any situations....
I highly recommend the beats by Dr Dre
sony erisson's MDR - EX35LP is the best
Currently in the planning phase, only a rough draft has been made for it to show what it may look like when finished, it is not scaled or optimized correctly yet. The end result might end up with 4x speakers instead of 2 but that also depends on what type of speakers I end up using "I am leaning on Logitech ones at the moment".
Specifications
LED Lighting in the Nexus sign
1x 3.5mm Headphone Jack Female (front)
2x USB (back)
1x Mini usb (back)
1x 3.5mm Headphone Jack Male (under where you put the tablet)
1x Micro USB (under where you put the tablet)
2x Speakers (Might end up making them Bluetooth speakers to kill off that extra audio jack)

How im gonna build it is that I am going to submit the final design once completed to a rabid prototyping company and have them 3d print the shell out for me, I then will add the electronics that I will salvage from cheap devices and solider them together inside the shell.
If anyone knows how I can get that soft rubberized feeling from the back of the tablet please let me know, id rather go with that type of finish.
"My friend just gave me an idea on how that I might also be able to add landscape mode without modifying the design". Ill have to do a little bit of extra planning later on how I am going to achieve this.

If you use something like that, might be wise to *not* spray it on the inside of the dock where your tablet goes in. It might cause some unwanted friction against the Nexus 7.
Along with the drip stuff there are quite a few spray paint type texture paints you could try. The local big box store should have a few different options

Very cool design. I will certainly be following this. Have you picked out the company that would be prototyping this for you? I have an idea that I wanted to do myself but I couldn't find a company to do it.
I like this idea a lot. What I was thinking would be perfect for a shop/garage setup. Hope this comes together for you.

They make some impressive things.
Talked to a friend today about some design plans and he brought up the possibility of adding a few features such as making it wall mountable putting a rechargeable battery in it and a few other things not worth mentioning so I decided I am going to release the plans once completed so everyone else can build their own.
I'm doing this because of the amount of good feedback I have gotten from the 3d community I'm part of at deviantart.

I agree that it looks very cool, but they want to use a MediaTek processor.
MTEK are very unfriendly to modders and the open source community and rarely release any source code. Yet the Gemini guys wrote that they'll support Linux dualboot.
Looks a bit weird to me. I'd like to get that but only if Lineage will run on it.
I wonder if you can actually use it as a phone. like put it to your ear and talk...
That thing looks way interesting. The only thing that I am worried about is how to make a phone call with this.

Yes but, I think that to make a call you have to open it up to dial, and use the stereo speakers to listen, there is no ear only speaker.
The Gemini PDA will have a microphone and speaker for phone use whilst closed. Calls can be made in this mode via the voice activation button or wired or wireless headset. Programmable LEDs will enable caller ID for known callers.

You can* there are mics and speakers on both sides so it doesn't matter which way you use it, but forget about using the touchscreen in case you need to. (you'll have to open the clamshell to do so.)
I have one but haven't tested the phone yet (or really plan to) . As mine is an early release model (early backer) it shipped without the e-sim functionality enabled yet (testing still needed), and I really don't want to get a sim card if I don't have to. (Regular Sim cards do/should work)
