Hello guys
My brother has my old i9000 and he is on a CM7 build from about October 2011.
He does not really care about having the latest of anything, just wants a reliable, fast phone with a good battery life.
Should he upgrade to CM9 (perhaps ICS333) or get the latest CM7?
Please share your experience - greatly appreciated,
Mark.
Ugh this is going to get ugly.
You see, battery performance varies greatly from phone to phone. I can happily squeeze three days of battery life out of a cm9 ROM while some people can't last for even half a day. Good knows why this happens, but it just does.
Knowledge is Power. Guard it well.
cm9 !!!!!!!
Cm9 seems to have better battery life, but for me cm7 is faster.

Hey so I am on Simple Honey JVB right now and I am looking for a change
So which one should I go for? CM 7 or MIUI? I am mainly concerned about battery drain, because I use my phone quite a lot during the day.
Thanks
I recently switched from darky to Cg7 and the battery drain got a lot worse.
There's currently issues with cm7 about battery drain (see Google code open issues) so you should wait until a stable cm7 is released

CM7 - new nightly was released yesterday - battery life looks much better than before. But if you are concerned wait for stable.
I using MIUI and its really fast and amazing custom, I'm worse only on battery drain, but all are working good
battery on both CM7 and MIUI are comparable as miui is mostly based on CM7. Nevertheless, new releases have improved battery life and keeps getting better!
Worth a shot!
What is the advantage of 2.3 vs. 2.2 for our phone. I know everyone likes to have the latest and greatest, but is there any features that the captivates hardware takes advantage of. For example I understand that 2.3.4 adds video chat but the captivate does not have a front facing camera. I know that the update has to have security enhancements, but what are features to get excited for with 2.3?
The voice stuff. Much more full featured without third party apps. I can say things like "set alarm 15 minutes" and be alerted.
Other than that and the fact that most development has switched to 2.3, not much.

Battery life is HUGELY extended. Gingerbread does some automatic juggling with data connections to keep usage to a minimum. Pre gingerbread I would get 6-8 hours of battery life without using a program like Juice Defender. Now I easily get 30 hours of battery life.
I thought there was a battery drain issue, was that only with cm7 or I9000 roms?
I too experience massive battery drain with Miui which is a 2.3 cm7 rom.
asrrin29, are you suggesting other 2.3 roms that aren't based on cm7 will have the extended battery life?
I get 30 plus hours with Andromeda3 with about 30% battery left , so , if battery life is one of the few reasons to flash GB I'll just stay where I'm at.
MIUI and CyanogenMod have horrible battery life. Thats their own little bug, remember they are AOSP's and they still haven't worked out the kinks on Nexus S rom to galaxy S. But Gingerbread roms have HUGE battery life increase over froyo. I can get anywhere from 12-36 hours (12 would be heavy use). Sadly Android 2.3.3 has a small little bug where android OS would start eating battery like no one's business, a reboot fixes that problem. Android 2.3.4 fixes that issue.
The battery drain on cm7 is nowhere bad as it was, I get around 18- 26 hours. and most issues have been fix as well.

I get about 6-8 max on MIUI.
I'll try a non-cm7 rom.

Well I am basing my info from what I've read. I also think the battery issues have to do with kernel-modem combination. But when people say they are getting horrible battery life on GB rom, odds are they are on cm7 or MIUI =/

I agree with the kernel-modem combination
Cause i stay on the stock kernel, most other cm7 kernels tend get out date and break updates so i just stay way from them.
Miui seems to be the one with battery life issues, cm7 is getting pretty close to samsung rom battery levels.
Undervolting helps a lot with cm7/miui. I personally feel like gingerbread is smoother and the newer gb roms have some beautiful themes. Battery life is definitely better with the exception of cm7/miui.

[Q] Best ROM/kernel combo best battery life w/3G is turned on (Android 4.0 & above)
Hi guys, as per thread title -
I'm constantly on the move and usually do not have access to a charger for the day, and I rely heavily on 3G for my job. I don't wish to go back to stock Gingerbread, and will at be on Android 4.0 and above. 3G seems to drain a lot of battery.
Be it flashing customer kernel or going to the extreme tweaks, do share your thoughts here! V30J was a good ICS rom with acceptable battery drain, but it has its own set of issues (mainly freezing randomly and not waking up). But that's my benchmark of battery life, as I got almost 10 hours with moderate usage (no wifi, no GPS, minimum brightness etc with Pimp My Rom).
Since your a local, I bet or kiasu(Singapore Attitude). Or maybe not. Anyways, The best for battery life is V30J. Or not. When I used it, its very power savvy. But take note that the performance is poor

=.= kiasu.
yeah perhaps haha but for one I don't mind a sacrifice in performance as long as the rom functions and doesn't drain battery. However V30J as mentioned had its freeze issue and that is a problem that I may not be able to accept.

Then use CM10 and under clock. That should do the thing.

Hi,
Yesterday i rooted my Galaxy Note using the LiveNote ROM.
The ROM itself is very good, very smooth and retaining that Touchwiz look that i love but i have found it have serious effects on my battery life. The battery life is diabolical, only lasting 1 hour and 22 minutes of screen time, half of which i was using wifi. Before the root, my battery was not good anyway, only lasting about 3 hours screentime but this new ROM has pretty much crippled my phone.
What i want to know is this, is there any way of keeping this ROM but vastly improving battery life, say to where i was before at around 3 hours screentime? OR perhaps is there another ROM with decent performance, using the Touchwiz interface and also having good battery life?
The phone is running Jellybean 4.1.2 and i am using Philz.
Regards
James

There is a way:
Start reading the uncountable (and mostly idiotic) threads about bad battery life after flashing a ROM.
Or read threads about battery life when the baterry is older than a year.
If that is too difficult or if you are too lazy then please stay on stock ROM - not only the life of the battery will benefit from it.

I do agree mostly with the previous reply.
Still, Sweet Rom 10.5 has good batery life and performance. Live Note seems to come with c.o.h kernel which has Gpu OC. Unless you have change kernel that may affected batery.

Hi guys, I would like your opinion on my battery life. I think it's pretty worse. On stock ingerbread I would get 1 day-1 day and a half of battery maybe, bur on every custom rom the battery is pretty ****ty. Below I will post some screenshots so you can see what i mean. I guess the question is, can you give a good rom for battery life? Or what modem should I use?
What rom you using? They are some crappy stats. I'm doing a lot of rom swapping these days. I've had with F4K R4 and CM9 Kernel 5 and a half hours screen on time and great standby. I'm currently using another ICS rom but I find ICS to have some of the best battery. Just have to test some of them and find a decent kernel. Midnight Kernel for ICS has some good battery life.
