[GUIDE] Android 2.3 Gingerbread Keyboard on Captivate [Auto-Correct Working v2]

Update: My full Android 2.3 Gingerbread styling guide is now available.
I've written up a little guide for those of you who want the quick and easy way to get the new Android 2.3 keyboard on your Captivate with 2.2. Enjoy!
Requirements
Device must have root priveleges with Superuser
Android 2.2 Froyo operating system
The latest “Voice Search” application from the Android Market
Make a backup of LatinIME.apk in system/app folder just in case if you have it!
Clockwork Mod Recovery
Deodexed ROM
Go to the Market and download Rom Manager to install CWM Recovery
Problems
Auto-correct feature is broken Working in v2
Vibrate on keypress doesn't work
If you are running a completely stock, odexed ROM, this could mess things up!!
Instructions
Download the .zip file provided by Peter Alfonso & Fabolous
Mount your device as USB storage and throw the zip file into the root folder (the main one)
Boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery
Once in CWM recovery choose to install zip from sdcard
Choose to install the .zip you downloaded in Step 1
Reboot your device! Congratulations!

Did you try replacing the android dictionary and some of the libs with the 2.3?

how does this compare to droid X?
for me android keyboard on 2.2 was bad compared to droid x. with droid x it guessed my words a lot better. do we know whats been improved or is it just a visual thing?

I pulled the UserDictionary.apk and installed that, but it cause FC's when opening the keyboard. There might be an issue with dependencies on other libs I didn't transfer, but it's not my area of expertise, so I'll let someone who knows take care of it.

had to flash twice, but it works for me! I can't wait for more 2.3 goodies to get baked into roms

Didn't work for me on assonance

the auto correct only works after you go into settings and select a language/region

Worked for me just fine. Also i am not sure if it is just my imagination but even though the keys seem smaller they seem to be a little more leinent with my fat fingers and making mistakes. Autocorrect doesnt work but it looks great!

This is only working on a few select phones.. But i have it working with Typhoon Gingerbread. Just wanted to spread the word.

Saw a guy on the market with a HD2 and he claims its working fine for him even though the HD2 is not on the list of phones. I have a HD2 and I am not able to get it, how would he be able to do this?

At first it wouldn't let me download from market, but used the one in link and works perfect!
I'm using magldr/cwm/typhoon CM7

Hey guys don't forget the app was only released for certain phone models so most of us will probably need to use some work arounds.
Its working great on Tytung Nexus 2.7. If its not working for you, try this...
- Replace drmprovider.apk in system/apps with this file ( http://www.htchd2forum.com/android-...odes-android-app/?action=dlattach;attach=1284 ). It is the drmprovider.apk from the LG Revolution, which has the required restrictions for Netflix. (Don't forget to back up the original first, just incase).
- Change model name in build.prop to Nexus One (model approved for Netflix service)
- Install Netflix.apk from market (Link in post 1, old Netflix apps that have been floating around didn't work for me, just this one).
Restart phone and try it out! That did it for me, hope it helps on other roms. Good luck!

Can you provide a little more detailed instructions on how to complete this process please?

Download and extract the linked file drmprovider.apk. Use Root Explorer to open system/apps and copy the file to that folder, replacing the old one. Then, find build.prop file in the system folder, long hold and select open in text editor, change the product line to Nexus One (see the screen shot in my previous post) then save and exit. Download and install the Netflix app (from first post) then reboot your phone. See if it works

Working on hyperdroid CM7 v2.0.1
I used the link in this thread to DL the apk. It installed and opened fine, movies running smooth. I didn't have to rename the phone in build.prop or change the drmprovider. It just worked. At least for now. And with the 4.3" big screen the movies look great. Eat your heart out 3.5" iPhone.

No it shouldn't effect anything else really. Your phone will just be recognized as a nexus one now.

Forget it, I found a good app that does the same thing.

Will changing the root name to Nexus S and Samsung prevent me from updating my HTC features or any other features? I am hesitant to make this change and have problems down the road. What does

SuperOSR V2 for LG Optimus 2x with gingerbread 2.3.5 from [email protected]

This ROM (is not a mod) was full developed from the google source and very little part from the framework of Cyanogen.
Thanks to Cyanogen and all their cooperator for the inputs given.
This version still UNWORKING Radio FM for now. Is the onlyone didn't work yet.
For the rest, there is no problem to highlight.
Steps to follow:
1.- It's needed to have ClowckWorkMod Recovery 2.0.3 or Higher.
2.- It's neccessary to do WIPE.
3.- Reboot in RECOVERY MODE and install the downloaded .ZIP
4.- In the wellcome screen, when ask for the google account, it's recommended to skip over. This is because the phone will autoconnect to market and start to download automatically all the apps you have installed and this will hang the phone because do it suddenly, even will configure the wallpaper of the back ROM. Following this, you will make a clean install.
5.- Finish the initial configuration and one time you are in the launcher, configure the phone at your pleasure.
6.-Very carefull who going to do a restore from every type or program versus the rom you can have some problems. Special atention a data configuration restore of any type. Do it bit a bit assegurance al restore correctly.
7.- Then you enter in the market and install any free app to refresh what you have installed on phone.
The new SupSetup have integrated the activation of app under demand in the submenu Extra Apps(aplicaciones Extras), you can activate what you want becaouse the rom comes in "LITE" mode (whithout extra apps intalled) to everyone can choose his better options.
It's important before config the google account activate the apps in the SupSetup to when it connect to google servers, this apps should appear in "downloaded" apps.
NEWS
- All that come default whith all ROM from [email protected]
- Android 2.3.5.
- Support for exit HDMI.
- Support for booth SDCard. The internal will mount in /mnt/sdcard and external in /mnt/sdcard/_ExternalSD.
Applications
- You can install more from "extra apps" (aplicaciones extra) from SupSetup.
- Google Apps (GMail, Maps, G+, Search, Voice Search, Docs, Talk, Market, Youtube, Noticias).
- Terminal emulator.
- New Market.
- Google Music. New App to music management.
- Google Books.
- Flash Player 10.3.
Support:
All the problems you have only going to be answered if are indicated on "movilzona", didn't going to give support for twitter or other forums. It's greatfull and other times is mandatory to send with the problem detail the phone log, to do that exist some apps in the market, like for example this app: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.jtb.alogcat.
If i can't reproduce the fail in my phone, without you log file (where is the error) i can't give a solution.
Attention: I don't want all content of the log in a post. This file is too big and i dont want to flood the forums with this, only need the file as it.

Hmm my Home key isnt working with this rom. Pressing it doesnt do anything.

USB tethering doesnt work

Just seem to have found a bug. The USSD codes are not running. I have installed SIM service app but no improvement. After every call a pop-up menu meant for showing balance is actually showing random digits. On enforcing a USSD code its telling invalid MMI code in a pop-up. This ROM is very good but this bug will force me to shift to other ROM. Any solution for this?

The cooker isn't giving too much support, even in the spanish forum.
I going to test if work the bluetooth A2DP.

The oppo theme manager is half translated (OK for me) comes with a big bunsh of themes and wallpers :laugh: verry cool:good:
The music app looks peretty cool but I can´t find a DSP manager or EQ ... I think Viper4Android (click my banner) is the best combination with this

This thread is for galaxy s3 but on official website there is no galaxy s3 device in list. Then how we get the further updates?

ColorOS is a overlay unique to oppo devices like Find5 and N1
The base are cm10.2 (4.2)
and cm10.2 (4.3) !
I trink this is an unofficial port and from the chinese comunity and this is wehre the updates come out

Pretty straightforward: Flash with TWRP, get the latest Google Dialer from APK Mirror, and install it normally. No more restriction! Subsequent updates will install from the Play Store automatically.

Yes, I'm using the latest stock Google Dialer on my S7 Edge at the moment without any issue.
That "fix" doesn't modify or replace anything in /system. It only adds two missing files on non-Nexus phones that are required to be able to install the latest stock Google Dialer:
com.google.android.dialer.support.xml under system/etc/permissions
com.google.android.dialer.support.jar under system/framework
Both files included come from the latest Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1 system dump

Just tried it on z5c and it works perfectly well. I am curious what happens if I uninstall the stock phone app through titanium backup pro and keep the Google dialer. Anyone tried it?

Thank you, this got the Google dialer installed and working for me, I posted asking how to get Visual Voicemail to show up inside the Google Dialer, but setting it as the default app fixed that too

I'm assuming since this adds files to /system that the phone would then fail SafetyNet checks? Meaning this would cause Android Pay to fail.

I couldn't say. The files are official Android files and are present on every Nexus phones

New version out - Google Phone 5.1.131226882 (Extracted from the Pixel system dump).
Installed it on my Z5, working without problems for now!
