Hey, i'm on stock and i like to update with odin to german 4.0.3, which option should i check to make the hardest fullwipe?
already tryed update and its not fullwipe.
if you are on gb wipe while in gb once on ics full wipe is not recommended with the bricking issue tho to be honest i have gone from gb to different ics and back with no wipes at all
Think bricking issue is only being caused by wiping via cwm not stock only ive tried 3 ics and always flashed gb before not experienced so far any issues (touch wood)

You either have to use a GB kernel, do a full wipe then reflash your ICS, or use franco.Kernel r3 or Speedmod K3-1, just make sure you reboot the phone after you flash the kernel to be sure that it's using it.

That is NOT correct, the bug has nothing to do CWM, it's related to how the kernel erases big chunks of data, people bricked their phones using stock ICS with no root or anything.
So you're very lucky, but you should use a safe kernel (franco r3 or Speedmod k3-1) to be safe.

Hi everyone
I am new to Android. I upgraded my galaxy note GT N7000 to the official ICS German version. everything went smooth but then the battery consumption was terrible. I tried Franco kernel #3 and it didn't help so i restored the other kernel using CWM. everything is fine now but i heard about the risk of phone brick. I want to go back to GB but all the methods i reviewed involve wiping data which is the risky step that might hard brick the phone. Any suggestions? ?
Thank you and forgive my humble English

afaik there is no way to downgrade (officially) without wiping everything :/
flash via cwm the abyss kernel, reboot in recovery through this kernel
Wipe & reflash from abyss a GB rom
I did a CMW backup before flashed to German ICS. After that find out that the ori ics is not really fast and stable, so I restore back to GB through CMW..

probably I will try that. I was decided to keep the ICS till a solution for the brick comes up but this afternoon the phone screen started to go blank and display like old tv so it seems I have to go back to GB.
Another question please : Is there a risk that the phone will "auto-brick" by itself if I just keep the current ICS without making any changes or the brick happens only while installing or changing something??
Hi,
I as of yet, am not going close to any ICS build till the issue gets solved by someone.
so I am experimenting with different gb roms. i was using checkrom v6 but didnt like it, so followed steps to install darkyrom/alliancerom extreme edition. i followed the steps as I was told to install allianceota and flash the rom through there. it didnt work. so instead using cmw i flashed through recovery, it did flash but there no root.
so now, i reflashed a stock la6 rooted rom from here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
this went smoothly with no problems, so i installed allianceota as normal, this time when i try to flash the following messages come up:
Installing Multi-CSC
Can't access to '/system/CSC/KOR/system/'
Successfully applied multi CSC"
and then it gives me the option to reboot, wipe cache and a few other options, not full recovery mode.
shall i just reflash the rom through recovery, or am I doing something wrong? and does the slight error above mean I have a problem with my note?
cheers in advance.
Let me just say that almost every ICS ROM out there now has disabled the MMC_CAP_ERASE code in the kernel that activates the eMMc bug and bricks your phone. If you want stock ICS, you can use SpeedMod or Franco kernels. If you want AOKP, there is that now. If you want CM9, there's a bunch of variations plus the official CM9 nightly. If you read through the OP and stickies, you will be okay.
Are you on stock recovery still? It sounds like it from the error you are getting. Try flashing CWM recovery and installing the GB rom with that. Follow Drketan's thread in Android Development.
hmmm, so would you advise me to use ics? is it much better? i dont want to use cm9 builds as i need the spen apps and so on. i have looked into kingdroid or alba.
I'll have to think hard about this. i may give it a shot soon though..
oh and btw, I fixed the problem, yep it was to do with cwm it wasn't installed with the stock rooted rom. as for allianceota, it still didnt flash the rom, i had to flash the rom through cwm manually.
cheers anyhow.

I love ICS a lot more than GB. If you want to use stock ICS, I would just use Franco or Speedmod kernels with it and be safe. Read both of their forums and decide what you want to do.
I had the same problem with rom deodex i had flash with odin 1.85 firmware gingerbread here ; http://www.hotfile.com/dl/152168378/f76281c/N7000XXLC1_N7000OXXLB3_ATO.zip.html... then i made wipe cache and cache dalvick .
I've just flashed AlBa repack latest one on xxlq2, I did it by following the steps,
I thought i had broken my phone, because when the flashing finished and i was rebooting, at the beginning when it welcome to galaxy note n7000 and then goes to the bootup video, it restarted that several times, then after like a few minutes it loaded the homescreen and startup.

As far as I know the LPY was an issue and as long as you don't wipe data/factory reset in that one, than it shuouldn't be a problem either...I'm on LQ2 and have been on LP9 I think and I even accidently wiped data in LP9 and nothing happend. So you should be safe as long as you're not on LPY and like get the LQ2 or LQ3 version.
ICS is safe with a safe kernel i.e. CM9,franco kernel etc which are clear of any wipe bug present in the stock ICS kernels.Hence, the CM9 nightlies,ParanoidAndroid and other ROMs which utilize to CM9 kernels are safe.
Alteratively, you can also flash to GB and then flash a ROM with an unsafe kernel and then flash a safe kernel via PC Odin. It's recommended to go through flashing GB as it reduces risk. However,do this at your own risk

According to my understanding/knowledge none of available ICS official firmware/ROM is safe. Use safe kernels and ROMs mentioned by warfareonly.

Mostly right. Any AOSP kernel is safe - eg CM9. But then you don't get touchwiz, if you want that.
There are a few Samsung based kernels which have the brick bugs removed. They are probably safe - there have been no bricks with them that I know of.
NEVER wipe or format using stock ics kernel (whether from cwm or within android) if you are rooted.
To be completely safe, either use Odin or from a gb kernel. If you are rooted you don't have to flash a full gb rom - just flash abyss 4.2 and then reboot to recovery (do not reboot the device). Then wipe and flash a cwm flashable from from abyss recovery. There is no danger of the brick bug provided the wipes are done through the gb recovery.

Yes,you are right. The kernel must not be official, has to be custom(and not based on lpy) to be safe.

I am on stock DDLP8 with stock kernel. I am planning to flash paranoid android. Can anyone confirm if following steps would work properly:
1. I flash franco kernel via PC odin.
2. Flash Paranoid Android using CWM.
Or shall I resort to the longer & safer route of going back to GB first & then flashing paranoid android.
Read the instructions given on the Paranoid Android ROM thread. They clearly state to go back and flash from a GB rom...Here, I've posted the info for you
--->DON'T flash FROM ANY SAMSUNG ICS OR ROMS BASED ON SAMSUNG KERNELS
--->Flash any stock GB rom with odin / or any GB kernel ,root deviceand reboot into recovery once again before flashing this
--->Install Rom: http://d-h.st/agf 119.46 MB
--->Install HYBRID Gapps: http://tjohansson.is-a-geek.com/file...0511-fixed.zip
--->Wipe caches, factory reset is a must if you're coming from another rom than CM9
Next time, read.Safety always
hey
im currently running rooted ICS 4.0.3 XXLQ2 that i rooted with the CF-Root kernal.
My question is, is there an Abyss kernal that i can flash over that with ODIN so i can use it instead?i hear that abyss is safer than CF and you can actually install custom ROMs from it. Also, I'd usually find this info myself but everything i can find about it is a bit confused so i would like a simple yes or no answer
Cheers
Abyss is a GB kernel. DO NOT use it on ICS!
Abyss Note kernel is not compatible with ICS.
ah right OK, some folk are saying that it was compatible with ICS, so I take it my best bet for using custom ROMs would be to flash back to stock GB then flash Abyss, yeah?
EDIt: i meant to say, are there any safe custom kernals out yet for ICS that are ROM flashable and wipe-safe?
"ROM flashable and wipe-safe?"
???
once you have a rooted rom with a custom recovery like CWM then you can flash most kernels. Some kernels arn't compatable with some roms but the thread will usauly indicate which roms work best with the kernel.
I most cases when you are flashing a new ics rom it is not safe to do a full wipe.
I have just upgraded to rocket rom v6 i did not full wipe when flashing but once the rom was up and running i just go back to cwn and do a full wipe, seems to work for me.
Hope this gives you some info on the matter.

what i meant by wipe safe and rom flashable is that im not gonna brick the phone by doing a factory data wipe or by flashing a custom rom, from what i have read if you flash from pretty much any ICS kernal to a custom rom its an insta-brick
You had the right idea at first. Some ics kernels (eg Franco, cf and speedmod) are probably safe to wipe with. I say probably because they have had the emmc wipe command removed.
But to be guaranteed, reboot into cwm (assuming you are already rooted) then flash abyss 4.2 GB. I use the red version so I can be sure I am flashing from GB.
Then reboot to recovery. Do not reboot the phone - it will not work - but it will happily boot to recovery. You are now in GB recovery and can wipe with no risk of brick bug at all. Flash any cwm flashable rom. Just make sure you had copied it to your SD card before you started this process!!!

Hey,
I recently bought SGN and wanted to update to Kingdroid's custom ROM and so i did !.
My SGN was on Ginger bread 2.3.6,what i did was,
1.Root Note(ginger bread with Odin by following Dr.Ketan's guide)
P.S-i did the exact same thing as he mentioned in his guide.
2.Installed later CWM on recovery mode
3.Installed Abbys kernel..(rebooted to recovery later)
a.clear userdata/factory reset.
b.wipe cache
4.Installed Notemania v5.0
Now,the problem is,first time the installation process completed,BUT it did not install the complete thing i.e CAMERA icon was missing,Touchwiz5,and many more apps were missing.
So later i decided to overwrite by reinstalling the mod again.
1.i booted into recovery mode
2.WIPE DATA,CACHE
3.selected install zip from sdcard/notemania v5.0
after selecting install, the installer stopped its progression @ 80%(mounting system ,rootfs) and lagged for almost an hour,i rebooted into recovery mode and rebooted device and it booted,,BUT the installation dint not reach 100%.
STILL camera app was missing and many more.
ive tried installing/overwriting many times(like 10).. its stuck up @ 80%.. i even tried Notemania 4,4..no use, lags @ 80%.
How do i finish the installation and install the COMPLETE ROM PACKAGE(with camera app)?>>>>
Requesting help!! Sorry my first android,so Noob

i have a question
1.How can i get back to Unrooted stock ICS rom now?
To go back to stock unrooted ICS, you can flash stock ICS via PC Odin. Since you already know how to safely wipe using Abyss, you can do full wipe in Abyss before putting your phone into download mode and use PC Odin.

i have to flash to stock GB first,(via ODIN)
then wipe data,cache
and install stock ICS via odin right?? that's all i have to do?

I tried various versions of the ROM, but this is the mentioning of the most versatile and best. We recommend warmly.

Yes, that's the recommended steps to safely and cleanly install stock ICS.
Just remember that full wipe in stock ICS is dangerous.

Reading the sticky threads with the warnings and tutorials might be the real "ToDo" (if you didn't do this before).
In posts like these here you only get short answers. They include the risk that you do not really understand what the poster meant.
There have been many posts here from members bricking their devices because they didn't invest a little bit time in reading.
I 'invest' a little bit time of answering
Sometimes some people like to reassure themselves by asking confirmation from others..like a second opinion, you know...
So,for getting back onto stock ICS i dont need to involve abbyss or any other kernels right??
just, odin, and 2 stock roms and wipe userdata?

Just read this post from Dr. Ketan for installing stock ICS ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Before installing any custom ROMs/Kernel, you need to read & re-read the instructions carefully. Any missed step will make your device nothing more than a paperweight. Also do read the stickies in the forum for flashing/rooting, etc., it will help you & also you may be able to help someone like yourself by pointing in the right direction.
As Kopitalk told, do not wipe when on ICS. Always be on a safe kernel (GB based preferred) first.
