This may help some of you out and maybe not but wanted to share to help out.
I had MMS/Picture Messaging problem (Error in Server Response) with Obsidian v2 & v4.2 ULF until I followed steps below:
This fixed it perfectly for me:
Go to your main menu settings.
Than Applications, Next Manage Applications, than Running Applications.
Click on "Messaging", Click "Clear Data"
Exit back to main screen.
Now open messaging.
Go to messaging settings by hitting the menu button on the phone.
While in messaging settings page, hit the phones menu button again,
only one option appears to "Restore Default Settings".
Click it & exit.
Now try to send a MMS/picture message. Worked like a charm for me.
Hope it helps some of you all out.
I'm running on Axura 2.4 and been having this problem. Thanks a bunch for the remedy!
Your welcome. When I had the issue I kept seeing other posts about the issue with no real fix solutions offered. Some one suggested to type a 1 in front of your contacts to get it to work but I thought their had to be a better way if my SMS worked just fine. So I explored further and this worked perfectly for me.
Thinking problem is from lag fix conversion process or from flashing between 2.2 ROMS. But was easy fix either way now that I know.
Thought it might help other 2.2 ROMS as well with similar issues.
does not work....eugenes froyo odin
I also briefly tried telling the phone to connect automatically to a preferred network when I explored fixing the issue on my phone. So other people could try that as well if still no luck with the above method. I'm just glad if ti fixes some peoples MMS problems mainly Obsidian ROM since that's what I'm running.
If does not work with Eugenes or others...well that why I put in CAPS "POTENTIAL FIX" lol
Nope... it doesn't work. Putting a 1 in front of the phone number does work.
Edit
I am running Obesidian V5 Beta btw. But i had this same problem in Obesidan V4.2
Tried to send another mms and it didn't work anymore. Went back and repeat your setting steps again and it still didn't work. Thanks for the effort. It was fun getting that one mms to send.
Export your contacts to your sim card, and you might show double contacts, but use the one on your sim, and BAMM , it will send without a hitch.
This POTENTIAL FIX did not fix after all permanently. Problem appeared again. Tried and still no luck. Going to look into further. If something else comes to mind will share again. At least it was a glimmer of hope to have it work normally even if briefly without a "workaround" approach.
Same mms problem here. Mms seems to work when using wifi calling app though. Obisdian 5

Excellent Work! This fix worked for me as well. That's what's up!
Spoke too soon. I stopped working for me as well, and I cannot make another go thru. Darn!!!
Didn't work for me but I found that using another sms app like chomp worked for some reason. Kind of a hassle but it worked.

My data works but for some reason no browser will ever open a web page but apps like facebook and xda etc. all work without a problem. On wifi the browser will work as well but not on data connection.
I tried clearing cache, rebooting, airplane mode disable and then enable but got some reason data won't work in browser. I tried stock and dolphin as well but neither worked.
Any ideas?
Btw I'm on miui v6

Same issue here, hardly believe it's network/carrier related.
On russian forum (4pda.ru) found a guy with the same issue on his Galaxy Ace: it looks like everything works after resetting to factory defaults, but before the first time you
1. are out of wi-fi network range
2. have wi-fi enabled on the phone
3. trying to use browser (looks like all you have to do is to launch it)
Surprisingly enough Opera Mini works. Opera Mobile gives (slightly) more informative message: "Error requested content (site name here) cannot be resolved". DNS related stuff?
p.s. mine has stock froyo for EMEA/CIS (XWJPF), no root
Have you checked your APN settings to make sure they're all there and correct? solW might be right with it being a DNS issue.
Have you had the same problems with other ROMs?
It's not that data isn't working it's that it won't work in the browser only in apps

I also have the same problem...I was on v6 miui, then flash to twooey thinking it would fix the problem, but the issue is still there. I tried different modems also.

Based on my previous idea about DNS issues, I've just tried to access sites directly and somehow it worked (not without any issues of course).
Using direct IP I was able to access google page and do some search, following the search results was out of the question. Similarly I got xda-developers.com to load (but only text - no images, flash, banners, etc.).
So it looks like it is DNS related issue. It would be nice if someone with rooted device could investigate this.
utsmaster18, could you try this on your device? just to verify my guess ...
For me, same issue, is there any way to uninstall/reinstall internet-google stuff from the android? opera mini 100% funcitonal, nothing with dolphin

Sorry I'm not understanding, what exactly do you want me to do? I'm not familiar with internet terminology. You want me to go to a website by entering in an ip address?
What's a signature?
Yes, you got me right. Try typing ip address instead of site name/link for several sites
For example: "www.google.com" in my case was replaced by 74.125.39.105, "www.xda-developers.com" by 50.23.231.74 (to get site ip address you can use ping in windows/linux/(don't know about mac ^)) command line, i.e. ping "www.google.com").
Full address should look like "http://74.125.39.105", but in stock browser just the numbers will be enough. This should give you normal google seach page instead of internal error as result. Just in case, clear browser cache before that
Ouch ... had to wrap some links in quotation marks, because forum does not allow me to post links yet

This is still not working for me. And still working Opera, I really think that is some sort of messed up configuration at the internet browser android comes with...
sounds a bit like proxy problems of some sort, could you try resetting the browser to default settings?
Have you been using OpenVPN?
So did anything happen before this? Was it working before?
Reason I ask was that I had something similar when I flashed a different modem on a new ROM (even though the modem worked previously on a different rom). I flashed back to previous modem and it worked again.
Also thinking that APN may be the issue (possible ports configured which allow other apps internet access?). I would use download APN Global from market, backup my APN settings, delete and then use the database version pulled from the APN to refresh the APN's. So if it's not a modem issue (or haven't made modifications), then maybe try refreshing the APNs?
My 2c
Yeah it was working, even on the same rom but then just randomly it stopped working for some reason. I had never changed modems kernels or anything, it just decided to stop working.
What's a signature?
I am thinking it is APN issue. Any apps that could have potentially modified the APN's? I don't want to point to anything specific, maybe APN disabler? Otherwise, backup and get fresh APNs.
Yeah guys, I recon it would be APN.
In my case APN settings sent to me by my provider (in a configuration message) were wrong because they included Proxy: and Port: values. However when I checked the settings on local forums they didn't have the Proxy: or Port: (they were left blank). So, as soon as I removed values from those two fields it started working again. And yes, opera mini worked despite having Proxy and Port fields filled. So try blanking those fields out and see how you go. Remember to write down the original values first in case you need to go back to them.
Thanks guys for an interesting discussion and fix, nice work

Yep, that'd explain name resolving issue. Recreated APN with access point setting only and it worked for me. Thanks for the solution
Hi everybody,
Since I'm using ICS ROM 4.03 (now on CM9 Build 16), I get screen corruption when using market or surfing on internet with active wifi. Sometimes also when I use google music but only when wifi is active. You can see what happen on picture attached. Any idea to fix this issue?
Thanks.
Looks like language settings getting messed up. What language are you set to? Maybe try switching language to a different one and then back again. I hope that's what you're referring to.
Thanks,
I've just found the origin of the issue : it was the clock widget that I used everytime. I removed it and now no problem anymore.
Hi,
I had disabled auto-rotate when I was on CM7 to reduce battery usage and never enabled it since then.
Recently, I have realized that it doesn't work any more - anyone facing the same issue with CM9/ AOKP ? I have repeatedly done full wipe-flashes with AOKP Build 37 and CM9 2012-05-28 nightly but it hasn't helped.
For reference, the accelerometers report good reading in all orientations and the auto-rotation works in the camera app, but not in gmail, stock browser, opera mini, etc.
While on AOKP/37, I also tried the sensor.zip fix found on one of the pages but that was a no-go too.
Currently I am on CM9/20120528 nightly with Nova launcher. All settings are set for Auto-Rotate (Nova/ System Settings). I also cleared the data/local/yas529.cfg file. After all this, it still doesn't work. I can get proper readings while using RIDGID Digital level (bubble level app) and the Accelerometer tests in Z-Device test, yet no apps will rotate for me .
Any ideas?
Thanks,
RR
PS: Logcat output is here : http://pastebin.com/kdKEDVLs
I tried enabling and disabling auto-rotate a few times, and then checked whether it rotates under Opera Mini and Stock Browser - Did not work. Also checked results of the Digital Level app - worked fine although one of the axis would not give any reading above 82.6 degrees.
PPS: A similar problem was found on the KANG thread in development (but I can't post there as I never needed to post till now, and was relying solely on <Search Forum> advice).

Now it works great!
have fun!
Strange But True
Sorry for the delay in reverting. The above suggestion solved it.
I was waiting for the Linaro goodies to start flowing in before my next flash, but an extremely laggy contacts app meant that I had to move to Slim.
For reference of anyone in the same soup as me:
1. I flashed XXJVU (Stock GB) and then flashed the CF-root kernel to get CWM and root (both using Odin)
2. Then I flashed AOKP-Build 38 from CWM recovery, without wipe (twice, just to be sure). Checked auto rotation and it was working fine.
3. Flashed Slim with full wipe (data format/factory reset, dalvik wipe, and system format, as per karvind's instructions) and the Auto rotate is still working.
Thanks a ton! However, I am very curious: How did the AutoRotation fix persist in spite of full wipes? Where is this 'hidden' partition that is immune to formatting?

You got my hopes up, but sadly this exact procedure still didn't resolve my auto-rotation issue (doesn't work for system apps in ANY ICS ROM).
I'm curious to know if there is anybody else out there who absolutely (still) cannot get auto-rotation working in ICS. I wonder if there is a common hardware similarity that's causing the problem?
Check at every flash
Did you have the Auto rotation working when you had flashed back to the GB rom?
Also confirm if Z Device test gives correct variation in the accelerometer readings.
From GB to rooting to CM9, I did not do any wipe.

Yeah rotation works fine in GB roms. I tried no wipe to ICS as well.
I'm trying Z Device on GB right now, and it does seem a little strange to me that the X and Y axes seem to be limited to +/-10 m/s (+/- 216 degrees). Or is that normal?
+/-10(or 9.8) is perfect.
Did you lose the rotation after rooting the GB, or after CM9?

After CM9. The phone is 2 years old, and I've been through every possible combination of Froyo, GB, custom kernel, etc. Never had a problem with rotation.
Now, in every 4.x based ROM rotation doesn't work - in system apps anyway. It does still work fine in 3rd party apps like games, sensor tests, the camera, etc. But never in the launcher, browser, SMS, etc.
EDIT: Also ran Z Device in CM9 - the results are the same as when running under GB. But still no rotation in ICS.
Mine is a 2 year old phone as well. Plz post the MD5s of the files you used. I will check and confirm if I have the same files.
the rotation sensor on my i9000 seems to work only for certain apps, like the camera app, or the level app that i dl'ed from the store.
i'm thinking that these apps have some kind of low level access and they don't use the system orientation info.
the menus, keyboard, and other system apps don't rotate. isn't there another solution than to reflash a samsumg firmware?`
isn't it possible to port the orientation sensor calibration software that is found in the original samsung firmwares to CM9 or CM10?
or could someone point me to a thrid party app that solves this issue?
ok, i think i need to calibrate the sensor with the program "sensorcalibutil_yamaha" which is usually found in the /system/bin folder on stock samsung roms.
this program is missing in CM9/CM10 however. could someone upload it from their stock samsung rom?? thank you!
Yeah i know i will be a digger but...
I have problem with my i9000, screen rotation works only on stock. Cm9,cm10,gamerzrom, screen rotation is not working, i calibrated the accelerometer by SensorTester and it seems that its (accelerometer and cm hacked orientation sensor) working great, but screen rotation doesn't work, yes i enabled it, when im turning the phone randomly sometimes it will rotate the screen... any help?
I just installed CM10 Jellybean on my new Droid 4. I have the latest build from hashcode (11/16) but I've noticed that I cant send or receive MMS and also that the physical CAPS LOCK and SYMBOL buttons dont work on my keyboard as well as the auto on and off for the keyboards backlight. Can anyone please help me or let me know if there are current fixes on these issues?

There are two ways to get around the MMS issue. 1. You can install GoSMS. It works fine for sending and receiving MMS. That is what I have been using. Free on the Play Store. 2. You can flash the inverted gapps package. Look in the dev section for a post by jsnweitzel. He has a link in his signature to a folder with lots of D4 goodies including the inverted gapps. The .zip file would need to be flashed in recovery. I have not personally tried that method but lots of people have reported it working for them.
Not sure about the SYMBOL key. I've never really used it. The work around for the CAPS LOCK is to hit shift twice.
I've never had an issue with the keyboard back light so I can't help you there. Maybe play around with the settings.
Good luck!
You can also go into your settings on your messages and turn off auto retrieve and then when you get a MMS message you can just go and and download it yourself .

that also worked for me ! did any1 find a fix for the internal memory ? its getting rather annoying not being able to fetch documents, pictures ect
I can confirm that mms with inverted gapps works fine.
My problem with the keyboard is that spelling suggestions don't show up using AOKP keyboard no matter what options I choose. Since there currently is no Motorola Input apk for JB, I have to use a 3rd party keyboard to get spelling suggestions to work.
