[Q] com.android.phone FC CM9 & AOKP - Motorola Droid 3

I am having an issue once i install CM9 or AOKP to my Droid 3. Everything flashes fine and functions work, the only thing is i keep getting "com.android.phone" force closing no matter which ROM i flash the AOKP or CM9. I have searched and found some ways to supposedly fix this issue, but nothing i have tried seems to work right. I've edited the build.prop, downloaded build.prop tweaks and i still get FC everytime i try to make a phone call.
I have At&t simcard and it recognizes my sim, i can go onto play market, receive text messages, but i cannot make phone call (cause of fc) and also when someone tries to call me my phone does not ring. I see plenty of people with these ROMS on their DROID 3, please can someone help? been going at this all morning
oh, also i am using the newest unofficial CM9 build (5/27) and the AOKP beta (3/16) via hashcodes blog. Also i do not have a "globalnswitch.apk" in my /system/app folder. I read that removing this apk might fix the FC issue but i dont have that file.

I have the same problem.

Hash said the latest build was broken.

I used to have similar issues, I am also using GSM/simcards on XT862. What I would do is install the rom through safe strap with the usual wipes. And I would go through the first boot without the sim card in. If you use Titanium backup, be careful of what you recover because some data can lead to the effect your getting. On the second boot after tt backup (if you used it), have your sim card in and everything should be fine. This same method should work for CM9 and AOKP builds. I've tested this will AOKP, CM9, Gummy roms. I could not get MIUI or AXI0MCS roms to work.

2.2 will not work on my Droid

I'm posting here because I don't know what else to do, my phone freezes using any froyo rom. It happens randomly and sometimes will not happen until I reboot the phone, but it makes my phone pretty much unusable. I've tried the leaked froyo rom, BB, CM 6 1&2 and countless others. I've tried wiping data / cache and formating the SD card (worked until i put my music back on), and I'm about to just try stock 2.2 and exchange it for a new one if it wont work.
Anyone else have this problem that could help me?
One thing I didn't see you do...
Have you at all root your phone to install the desired froyo rom for your phone?
Yes I am rooted, I'm currently on CM 5.0.8 and very happy but I would really like to get froyo working.
Alright. This is what I've done to get Froyo working on my Droid: I rooted my phone, downloaded BB v4 and changed the name of the file to update, installed Rom Manager on my phone(then found out I can download the roms from here as well), reboot into recovery through rom manager, wiped data & cache, selected install zip, then selected reboot phone. It took a bit to register but it converted over with BB v4.
I think I've found my problem
droidforums.net/forum/tech-issues-bug-reports-suggestions/67526-music-sd-card-causes-bb-4-freeze.html
this sounds like my exact problem, I'm going to look through my library and see if there is a corrupt file then try again
Hopefully that is the source of the issue and that'll be solved quickly. Good luck to ya

[Q] (Q) sms not working?!

using fitsnugly latest (as of yesterday) and was trying to applying a morph. it froze up in the middle of applying it and i had to pull the battery. since then i have not been able to send or receive text messeges. i don't have a nandroid because i've had too many problems with them and it's just as quick to use tb for backing everything up.
in any case, i've wiped everything possible, tried different recoveries, different roms, gingerbread, froyo, etc....cannot send sms. maybe i'm missing something simple but if someone can offer another way of wiping that might cover something i've missed i would love to hear about it.
Flash the latest rom again n see if it works

thanks, but like i said i've already tried that. i need to wipe something that's not getting wiped in recovery
well after some serious stressing i put in a new sim card that i've had and everything is up and running fine now.

[Q] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) [02/09/2011]

I need help please. My phone is not in a good place.
Here's my current state:
AOSP 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) [02/09/2011] installed
Home Button doesn't work
Phone Button doesn't work
No Market app installed so can't download anything
Browser works
Incoming calls don't work
Outgoing calls do work
Lock screen doesn't show up
Probably many more issues with things I haven't tested
Here's how I got there:
1) Installed AOSP 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) [02/09/2011] with Firerat's Mod
2) Everything seemingly worked well. Was prompted by Market to install all of the google apps
3) The apps from Marketplace didn't install. I ended up finding the "fix the Market" link on the Wiki and that solved the problem
4) Installed the core apps but some wouldn't install - like Voice Search - failing with an Insufficient Space error I believe
5) Started revisiting the parameters for the Firerat mod (mtdpartmap.txt) and reflashing the FR-boot
6) Didn't solve problem so decided to flash/wipe/reinstall AOSP 2.3.2 again
7) Got me to the state I'm in now. I tried 3 more times, still this is happening.
Going to try now with the 20110210 build and see if that's better. I see there's a fix for the lock screen so maybe it's related. Meanwhile, has anyone seen these symptoms before?
Thanks!

Sorry to hear about that, but I would recommend you to follow the steps from here: http://romrepo.info/wiki/index.php?title=Install_from_another_ROM. Try doing it without Firerat's MOD. Perform step # 2 - 2 to 3 times, before you flash the ROM.
Try and report back. Hope it helps.

2/10/2011 update solves this problem!
When you flash a different Ron, you need to go through the whole from process starting with fr- recovery after wiping/formatting everything. I have had troubles with 2/10. Maybe bad download. I get a weird keyboard error and it wants to send Google a report and can't get by that to start signing in.
I flashed on top of 2/6 yesterday, but still had VVM problems. I finally got that sorted out with 2nd method in GB wiki and started new TB folder.

Stability problem

Hello, I'm using Semaphore + CM10 JB for few weeks (installed with your support).
However I have a problem. The stability. My phone likes to resets byself, even few times per day. It happens irregularly. What's interesting, sometimes phone resets to the CWM. Sometimes resets and backs to work, sometimes totally offs the phone (and i need to pull out the battery) or freeze on cyanogenmod start screen (but not on normal start, only when resets)
Sometimes it happens when i'm using the phone, sometimes not. He likes to do that when i'm sleeping (for example, goes to the CWM and discharge the battery by whole night on full bright).
And much smaller, but maybe important issue: when the phone starts, shows the message Warning! A problem was detected with your device. Your device IMEI number is invalid. And invalid IMEI number could cause network issues including the inability to call emergency numbers.
Firstly I installed CM10, i had the problems with the network, but after @xsenman's help (reinstall with older ROM before flashing CM10) everything works correctly and i can see IMEI too. I made an EFS backup in that old ROM, should i use that? This message doesn't intrude me, but i'm just thinking if this could be connected with reseting problems. My SGS works really nice, but that one issue is really annoying.
100 views and really no one can help?
Come on, i feel so lonely
I'd recommend flashing a clean GB stock, restoring your IMEI, flashing CM9 twice and then flashing CM10 ROMs (if you want them lol). Always be sure that you wipe your phone after installs.
Sent from my Gameboy Color
thanks for your answer. However, maybe it's not a ROM problem? Maybe some application makes an issue. Is there any log where i can check that?
That IMEI stuff definitely isn't app-caused. I can only repeat my statement above. Don't worry about data, you can backup everything using Titanium Backup and SMS Backup+.
Btw: What ROM are you on?
Best regards
Sent from my Gameboy Color
True, IMEI not, but it's not a real issue for me. Actually, i'm absolutely satisfied of my i9000 (maybe flashlight absence, but it's hardware). Everything works fine, but reseting problem makes me nervous when I use the phone as car dvr or for endomondo ect.
I use Cyanogenmod 10, one of october's nightly versions.
So basically you don't want to change anything but you want us to help you? Sorry, that's not the way a community works.
You didn't understand me. My problem is phone reseting. I want to find the reason of the issue. Because without it, i can install new software and still have the same problem.

Since when has this problem occurred? I doubt an app makes a phone reset itself.
Edit: I looked around your post history and you seem to have posted in the semaphore thread. Maybe something is wrong with the kernel?

Thanks for your answer. It's hard to say because I've flash a ROM and out of hand I installed the applications. It's the worst type of problems, because it doesn't happen instantly or regularly. Actually since i wrote the topic, i didn't see the problem, however i saw two-three times the attention about IMEI, so i think, the phone resets, but not seen.
/// amerkiller: you are using i9000 too, could you recommend me any other ROM? Probably I will need to install a ROM and wait, two-three days and check if the ROM makes any issues.
/// maybe, but how can i check it? It looks like work nice, my question in Semaphore's thread was about the features
I use Remics-JB, you can try it out if you want a Samsung touchwiz feel, and apps from the S3.
Slimbean if you want a minimalist ROM.
Hopefully, the problem will disappear.

Edit: regarding the kernel, you can flash Devil and see if the problem persists.

Ok, so i want to reflash my i9000. So - i have JVU's gingerbread ROM, is that correct stock ROM? Should i make the WIPE here? I'm not sure about restoring IMEI. Should i do that in GB's temporary ROM or (as I think) later in JB's? Of course, earlier I need to backup the efs folder with IMEI so i think i should do that in GB's and restore it in CM10 (or in Slimbean which I want to test). And one more doubt. You said flashing CM9 twice. Why is that? And how can I do that if i'm installing the ROM in CWM?

You can find tutorials about flashing to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
Flashing the stock ROM will recover your IMEI number if you currently don't have it and will wipe your personal files. Backup your IMEI while you're on GB and if you lose it, then restore it. Fyi I never lost my IMEI, it's not common. You should flash JB / cm10 twice, ICS/cm9 should be okay after one flash. Remember to wipe if the instructions say so.
When you'll attempt to flash cm10 in recovery, you'll get a warning about partition change. You'll have to chose to flash second time, this time it should work and the phone will reboot into a bootloop. Pull out the battery and enter recovery and flash cm10 again. This time it well install and reboot successfully.

It's everything working nicely? Asking out of curiosity.

Hi, thanks for your interest
Two days ago I made a re-flash Stock > CWM > CM9 (twice) > CM10
Attention about IMEI doesn't longer appear
I've installed apps. The phone has resets for a one time when I was using some app. It is not a big problem for me if SGS makes that from time to time (maybe some apps are not adapted to the JB very well). However today I used him to record my drive (dailyroads voyager) and when i tried to stop the recording, he doesn't backs to life (just I needed to pull the battery out) and video file was corrupted. But when I was getting back to home it worked correctly. I have no idea why that's happen.

Restarts shouldn't happen that was some unusual circumstance. The video problem is weird, post here if it happens again, lets hope its just bad luck.
Ok, I'll look on it.
I have one other question and maybe you will know.
Call recording. There are two options for use this feature. Simple MIC recording apps and 'two-way call recording' which is much better, however it needs kernel with handle of it. I didn't find anyone for SGS, so I want to use MIC recording. There are many apps in Google Play. However any of them makes 0kB files of record on JB's CM10. When I was using gingerbread it didn't worked too however files were good, but the second side of call didn't hear me.

I never needed that feature, so i won't be much help, try different apps and remember some apps are on XDA, not only the play store.

I saw that, but it is only for Froyo, when i installed it into gingerbread i needed to re-flash my SGS
I tried a lot of apps, however it looks like being locked (if worked they made 0kB files)

[Q] Avatar rom (CM10.1) for Droid 3 questions

Hello everyone,
Not quite sure where else to put this, but I can't reply in the android dev thread since I am a new member.
I flashed (using SafeStrap 3.05) the newest stable Avatar rom for D3 (using CM 10.1 and android 4.2.2 I think) and it booted ok, mostly everything seemed to work fine (except for camera but that seems to be expected) however I have absolutely no cell service. Not even just data, but the basic cell service for texts and calls isn't on. I tried doing the Verizon activation call, but it would tell me to turn airplane mode off, (which I did, but it either seemed to turn itself back on or not matter if it was on or off anyways).
Has anyone else had this problem and has a work around for it?
Thank you

Do you have a sim card in the phone? This was an issue with some Jellybean/ICS roms. It happens to me as well. For some reason when placing a sim card in the phone(it doesn't need to be active) it allows your phone to get reception.

Hey, so this was my process.
First, I made sure that the stock software on the phone was up to date. I did this since that way if you have to go back to stock, you are on the latest version, and you can confirm that you are using the correct rooting application. The root tool I link to below will work on 5.7.906 which I believe is the latest.
Second, root your phone. You will need to go HERE to download the tool. Follow the instructions on the page, and it should go fine. The phone will reboot several times during the process, this is normal. Once the program says it is done, you can go check for the Superuser application in your app drawer (it might be SuperSU or something similar, I can't quite remember).
After you have root access on your phone download the safestrap application for Droid 3 HERE. Make sure you get the one that is specifically for Droid 3. Transfer that file (should be called Droid3Safestrap-3.05.apk) onto your phone.
There are a few ways to transfer files onto your phone. You will also need to do this later to transfer the .zip of whatever ROM you decide on). If you have a micro-sd card that you can put into your computer, that works. Or, you can have the phone on and plug it into the computer and transfer it that way. I believe you can transfer to either the micro SD or the internal memory. I prefer micro SD since you might want to wipe the internal memory to fix things or switch ROMs.
After the .apk is transferred find where you put it using a file manager (I personally use Root Explorer but I think Astro or stock will work), and install it. Go to the new app and run it and it should request root access, which you grant, and it should flash the recovery.
Once you have the recovery installed you can install whatever custom ROM you want, pretty easily. Safestrap is great because even if you screw up the ROM somehow, you can always just boot back into Stock.
Here is where you'll have to chose what custom ROM you want. Now as far as I know, the Droid 3 is fairly limited in its ROM selection. It does have a Cyanogen Mod 10 version, but it is not a stable version and in my experience, doesn't run super great. If you want to try Cyanogen Mod 10, I actually suggest you get the Avatar Rom variant HERE, but keep in mind that apparently you do need a SIM card inserted for the cell signal to work at all. Overall it did seem to run fairly choppy but they are still releasing newer nightly versions (July 20th was the last) so it might have gotten better. One thing to know about these ones is that the camera does not work at all, so if that matters to you just skip these.
Now those two (CM 10 and avatar) are ROMS that will bring the droid 3 up to Android 4.2 Jellybean. If you don't care about getting up to the latest version (Jellybean actually isn't the latest anymore but still pretty darn close), then there are a few other Gingerbread ROMS out there that work a bit better.
HERE is a list of a few other droid 3 ROMs, my favorite Gingerbread one that worked overall really well and stable was Steel Droid. Otherwise, you can just look around and see what's available or what other people are suggesting. Choose your ROM (or several, it's fairly easy to install them so try a few!), and download it. You should get a .zip that is approx. 150-170 MB in size. As an aside you will probably also want to download the corresponding GApps package HERE and put that on the SD card as well. I think some ROMs have that included, but if you boot into a room and it doesn't have the Play store installed, you need to go back into safestrap and install the GApps package over it. You don't have to delete and recreate the rom slot, just go back into install and install it over. When I say corresponding, the different packages go with different versions of Android so for example the one labelled 20110307 would go with Android 2.3.4 which is Gingerbread, the version that Steel Droid uses.
For whichever one you choose, the install process is mostly the same. Reboot your phone, and after the Motorola Logo comes up, you should see the Safestrap splash screen. To get into the recovery menu you have to hit the "Menu" soft-key (the one all the way on the left) within 10 seconds so keep an eye on it.
From the recovery menu go into "Boot Options" You should see 5 options, rom-slot 1-4 and Stock. When you want to switch what ROM you are booting you select on the corresponding slot, and hit activate, then you can reboot through the menu option and it will start that ROM.
To install you will go into "Boot Options" chose whichever rom slot you want (most likely #1). You will have to create that slot, which can take a few minutes. After the slot is created, back out of boot options, and go to "Install". Find the .zip of whichever ROM you chose, and select that to install, and then you can install the corresponding GApps package.
After the install is complete, you can reboot (make sure it says rom slot 1 is selected up to), and it should boot into the Setup process of the ROM. If you ever need to go back to stock, just reboot, go back into Safestrap > Boot options, activate the "Stock" one and boot into that.
A few notes, if you want to switch ROMs, or install multiple ROMs you can do that using the different rom slots with a few exceptions. The Cyanogen Mod 10 and the Avatar Rom (most Jelly bean ones I think) have to be installed in rom slot 1, so if you're doing those and another like Steel Droid, put the Jellybean one in rom slot 1 and the Gingerbread on in rom slot 2. Also if you want to install a different ROM, it's generally best to just completely erase the rom slot and recreate it, then install the different ROM in the newly created rom slot. You can always create backups with Safestrap and restore them with Safestrap. Oh and make sure your phone has a decent charge before doing a lot of the safestrap stuff (I would say at least 60%) you can also have the phone plugged in while doing this stuff, but I'm not always confident it is charging so try and get it charged up before hand.
Finally, if you ever mess up to the point where you're worried that you broke the phone, (boot loops or it is stuck on the Motorola Logo) you can download this restore tool HERE. This should completely wipe and restore the stock software on your phone. It will bring it back one version previous though, so be sure to go through the standard update process to bring it back to 5.7.906 so that the root tool will work. This tool has saved me a few times and is pretty easy to run.
Sorry, I know that is a lot of stuff and looks pretty scary. It really is just a few steps that you should research and make sure you are comfortable doing.
1: Get Root access on the stock software on the phone
2: Install safestrap and flash the custom recovery
3: Boot into recovery and install whichever custom ROM you want
If you have any questions feel free to ask!

if you are using gms you may need Rom version with a modified build prop, most of the roms threads will have a modified version for GMS, in the OP or somewhere in the thread. if you can't find it just ask in the original rom thread
