So, I called Verizon yesterday because I'm a little frustrated with not getting ICS and one of the accessories I want is not made because they EOL the Revo already. They offered to let me get the Galaxy Nexus for $199 even though I'm not due for an upgrade and they will give me $63 for my Revo.
Would you do it?
I warrantied my Revo about 5 times and they sent me a Nexus as a replacement.

Not a sinle issue with mine to date.
Biggest complaint is the case and mount I ordered to use on my motorcycle won't work and they company is not going to make one that works for the Revo.

Tell the rep I want one, give me a phone number and a name, and I'll do it today. I'll let you know if it was worth it
It's akin to saying: "If someone offered you a Corvette for $30k, and offered $20k for a Kia Rio you owned, would you do it?"
"Only if I wasn't in a coma."
EDIT: I should probably add the disclaimer that Verizon is on the "screw you" campaign for its customers, so you'd need to examine what they were doing with your plan. Would you lose your unlimited data? Would you be forced into two years on a tiered data plan? Are they going to try to chain you to one of their "family shared, everybody wins except you (Stock holders, Verizon, etc.)" plans?
After all, no device is worth your soul...
I took the deal and the Nexus should be here Friday.
No changes to my contract as I was already on the 4Gb data plan(The wife has the unlimited data) and my contract date is still December 2013, so not a bad deal. I wish I had a different choice for carriers, but here in Wyoming they are the only one with decent coverage.
The more I read about the Nexus the more I like it. More to follow on Friday.

I'd trip over my own feet running to the store from the joy of being released from this hell pit of a phone! but, yes I'd defiantly take that offer any day. But, what was the accessory that you wanted but they no longer had since they EOL the phone already?
I wanted the Kraken AMS from Trident so I could clip the phone to my motorcycle handlebars, but they only made the Kraken II and from the person I talked with on the phone since LG has EOL the Revo they will not produce the Kraken AMS for the Revo.

Time to complain to Verizon that I want the Kraken AMS so they'll give me a new phone
It was a two part complaint. The other half had to do with no ICS for the Revo.
Go ahead and use it if you want. I'll only charge $5 for the use of this claim to get a different phone.

agreed. I have ways out of this phone if I want. I have 2 other lines that are up for renewal, both have regular flip phones with no data plan. I can renew one of those and get a new phone and transfer it to my line. I am a firm believer in paying for your mistakes however, and carrying this phone until upgrade for this line is my pence for impatient and not waiting for 4 months.
I am also very unhappy with Verizon. I have the unlimited data plan and there is no 4G in my area. Verizon promised me 3 different dates but has yet to deliver. Now it looks like I will not get to take advantage of unlimited data on 4G ever because by the time it hits my area (Verizon is now promising by end of 2013) I will have had to update and will have lost unlimited data. It's not like I live in some obscure remote village in the mountains. I live in Ventura California. I'm 40 minutes north of LA. Sprint service and coverage sucks, but right now the unlimited data, selection of phones, and roll over minutes are looking pretty sexy right now.
Just got off the phone with Verizon:
Sending back this second Revo (very recently began to Vibraboot again) in exchange for a Razr Maxx, no upcharge.
They offered the straight Razr (pun!) but I mentioned I had an extended battery and needed something with juice. Two minutes on hold and the 'supervisor' said no problem. Should be here Thursday.
Edit: fwiw, the Razr ics update is scheduled to start rolling out next week.
Great to hear they got you taken care of.
I've had my GN since Friday and I've got it Unlocked, Rooted, and running CWM. Also through in a custom rom and kernal and I'm really loving running ICS.

After a falling out with AT&T, I think I'm switching to Verizon. I'm currently using the Motorola Atrix, loving it so far. Bionic seems like the brother to it in Verizon. Now, this will probably take place in the next few weeks. If I switch, should I get the Droid Bionic or wait for a newer phone? I'll be paying off contract for the phone. Hoping to hear some input from users (as well as people who know the real definition of 4G, novel concept).

I'd go with the bionic, there will always be a better phone released a couple months after you buy, no matter what it is. Don't wait around to jump into the latest and greatest, because you'll always be waiting.
The bionic is a solid device, and most are very satisfied. I know I am. Wirefly is selling it for $150 with new contract right now, and you may even find better elsewhere.

Ok, despite the fact that I bought a Bionic just yesterday, and did not wait, I think I would wait those couple of weeks to see what's up with Verizon's new handsets (Prime, Vigor, etc.), and perhaps to wait out the expected OTA update to the Bionic that people say is coming in November.
If you can't wait, the Bionic is a nice phone.
I would recommend waiting for the Prime or considering something that has an unlocked bootloader.

Is there any word of verizon getting any phone with an unlocked boot loader? I know that some, like the thunderbolt, can be unlocked via hacks, etc... but will there be one that will come with the ability to unlock it right out of the box? If there is, I may also hold off on the bionic.

The latest rumor is a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, with 32 GB of external storage, 4.65" display (though ice cream sandwich has no menu/home/back/search buttons, so the size of the phone may be about the same), slightly thinner (1 mm I think), about the same battery.
This is a rumor, of course.
http://www.bgr.com/2011/10/06/samsung-galaxy-nexus-full-specs-revealed-verizon-wireless-exclusive/
As far as I know, since they are development phones, all of the Nexus phones have had unlockable bootloaders, though there is no guarantee of that, either.
We should find out next Tuesday at CTIA.
I would def go with the Bionic. I first upgraded to the Samsung Charge, But then quickly returned it once the Bionic released. It was a great decision. The week that i owned the Charge i was running into all kinds of small Glitches and bugs, nothing real major but enough to get on my nerves. The only thing that the Charge had over the Bionic was the Picture quality....
So far i have yet to experience the amount of glitches with my Bionic.
Wait a month and get the Nexus Prime. I know my Bionic is going out the window for that bad boy.

If your just buying the phone outright, I'd wait a couple weeks until the Prime comes out and pickup a Bionic on the cheap from someone who's switching. I have a feeling the used market is going to get flooded with them.

If you can wait until the end of the month, strongly rumored Samsung Nexus-type phone is "due out" near the end of tthe month, better screen, faster processor, and Android 4.0 (and a Google Experience phone so no crapware.)
If you can't wait three weeks, get a Bionic in your hands to look at the screen; although if you already have one Motor qHd screen & if doesn't bother you, the Bionic appears to have the best Motorola pentile qHd display so far.
I'm happy w/ myBionic so far,but wouldn't mind 50% faster CPU and a 720p screen

It's 14 days, plus a $35 restocking fee.
14 days for Verizon. If, like me, you order from Amazon, you have a 30-day window but then you can't reorder another phone from them for 60 days (to keep people from scamming rebates). meanwhile, unless you keep your Verizon contract active during that period, you'll be hit with an early term fee of several hundred bucks.
Personally, I'd rather buy phones unlocked and pay the higher price with the benefit of not being locked into a contract. But, none of the large carriers does it that way in the U.S.
I bought my Bionic on November 1, 2011.
Today, I received an email today from Verizon with the subject "Congratulations - You've earned a new phone!"
I thought that you were supposed to wait 2 years until you were eligible to receive an upgrade at the discounted price.
Well what do you guys think I should do? What would you do?
Wait for ICS on Bionic or get a new phone, and if a new phone, which phone should I get?
Do you have a grandfathered unlimited data plan?
If you don't have a grandfathered unlimited plan then either go for it or wait for something better to come out. If you do have a grandfathered unlimited plan then don't bite.

I am not grandfathered. I have 4GB for $30/month.
I just thought it was weird they offered the upgrade.
I thought maybe all Bionic users would be offered it, but I guess not.
The email was sent on the last day of the cycle, so maybe more people will get their email on the last day as well.
I might wait for ICS and more custom ICS roms because I already have desk dock, car dock, and extended battery.
Be careful too.. make sure its actually from Verizon... alot of viruses going round looking like that to steal ur stuff..

Hold out for an HTC One X or Samsung Galaxy S III
Dude! All the phones that were out six months ago are still the best you can get right now, they really haven't "moved" as far as what's available in quite a few months (which means you should expect something better any day now).
I know because I have a "new every two" available on my primary account and I'm going to wait until they get the SGS3.
Personally, from experience I know that HTC One "X" model will be a beast if you'd rather not wait for Sammy to show up on Verizon.
They have a habit of introducing nice phones right before they make the real monsters available. Expect that to happen again, as in maybe the HTC One X (and maybe other variants of the HTC One) first, then they'll introduce the Galaxy S3 after everyone they can suck the juice out of gets the HTC models.
It happened to all of us that opted for the Bionic: two months later they (Motorola & Verizon *****es) pushed out the Razor and Maxx not too long after that.
I'm not sure if this has been discussed here or not so I will post it. After June, if you want to continue your unlimited data, you will have to pay full price for the phone. If you take the standard subsidized phone, you will lose your unlimited data. It doesn't matter if your on 3g or 4g. If you want to keep your unlimited data, you will be paying $500-600 for your next phone (unless you buy it used) if you don't buy it before the end of the month.
I have already received confirmation email from Verizon verifying this as there has been much debate about the impact this will have. Basically what I'm saying is, if your eligible for and upgrade, get it now, don't wait, especially if you want to keep the peace of mind of not having to watch your data usage.

this is gonna just come back and bit them in the ass, I will wait it out since I can't upgrade until March 13 anyway and I will see what happens but I will not pay full price for a phone, if I need a new one I will just switch providers and get a better deal for being a new customer and have to play that game, just like I do for cable tv

All depends on how you view the situation since on contracts they're making more money off of you since you're paying more than what the phone actually costs usually and have you locked in for 2 years unless you early terminate it.
Went in and talked to a Verizon rep today and they said I average 7gb a month. If I get the the 10gb data plan I will be paying right around the same amount for my monthly payment.

Hmmm, I'm neutral after reading the link.
Good that they are going to make an effort to upgrade stuff released in 2011 (maybe Droid 4).
Only the Razr and Razr Maxx were mentioned by name.
The caveat is that any or all models released in 2011 might not get upgraded to JB and instead get $100 on the next purchase instead...
Would that $100 apply only to purchases direct from Motorola? It's something like $600 list price for these right? If one is to buy a subsidized phone from Verizon would that qlwo be eligible for the extra $100 off? I went from my Droid 2 to my Droid 4 as soon as possible in order to get a 4G LTE phone while keeping my grandfathered unlimited data. Fortunately my 2 yr contract date lined up nicely. I moved to a 4G LTE, slightly larger, better keyboard, grandfathered unlimited data, Droid 4. Now I understand that if I upgrade my equipment at a subsidized price in the future I will lose my grandfathered unlimited data plan. As long as I have that unlimited data plan I don't plan to upgrade equipment any time soon. And the $100 from motorola would be meaningless unless it applied on top of Verizon's subsidized price.
Don't get me wrong. I'm happy to hear that announcement. Definitely a positive.

The Droid 4 was released in January 2012, so it is one of the newest phones from Motorola on VZW. I'm pretty optimistic about the JB upgrade, I hope we get those cool new widgets they are shipping out with the new HD phones, but won't count on it. Haha, I'm old... no memory. Kyocera 7135 when it came out, didn't upgrade until the Treo 720p. Next phone wasn't until the D2. It was traumatic to upgrade as soon as I was eligible for discount but that window for a 4G physical keyboard keeping my unlimited data did it. I think I blocked that from my mind and kind of remember the D2 date.
I'm optimistic too but the D4 is very low volume compared to the Razr models. On the other hand it is targeted towards the "business" market and Verizon has always maintained that pretty well. Anybody know the numbers/ratio of how Droid sales roughly compare to Razr sales?

Actually, I'd argue the opposite. If you don't want to get a subsidized phone, then $100 off an unsubsidized phone sounds kinda awesome...
Regardless, I am sure the D4 will get JB. People were talking about it being possible before this announcement was made. Chances are the 2011 phone that WON'T be getting it is the D3, due to its 512mb of RAM.
Hopefully Motorola's going to start releasing updates in a timely matter. Watching their "On Display" event actually got me pretty excited for the future of Motorola.

Good news there. I'm unlikely to be upgrading to any kind of phone (subsidized or not) for a very long time.
Yeah, my Chrome is quite buggy too. However, my D4 isn't the only device I've seen with that issue. The tablet I use at work (Acer A100) hangs every time it tries to open multiple tabs. Personally I'm kinda disappointed in Google for taking Chrome out of Beta.
And I totally agree that the Droid 4 is going to get JB. I just hope that Moto doesn't decide to get rid of Webtop on my phone like they got rid of charge only mode...
Android - I'm coming home! Now to find a phone.
Been looking at the Nexus 6 pretty hard. I don't want LG, and I refuse to pay premium prices for a Haiwei crash-o-matic piece of junk.
Spent some time at Best Buy today fondling a Nexus 6 - love the screen, love the feel, love the speed.
So, nearly a year after it's release, is it still worth it? Thinking about doing another 2 year with AT&T, which would make it $149, or $349 outright through Best Buy.
THoughts?
Plain and simple: Yes

Its as cool to have as an Indialantic beach!
People are still happy with their Nexus 4's for that matter, so I'd say yes, it's still worth it for the next 2 years. Although personally I despise 2 year contracts.
Most definitely. I have a Galaxy S6 and this thing blows it out of the water, except the camera. Way faster, much more support, better battery life.. Although I figured I'd get more than what I do. I'm keeping my eye out on the upcoming Nexus(es) but I have a feeling I'll stick with this and the S6 for awhile.
BTW I just purchased this about a month ago from Swappa. Couldn't stand being locked down with the S6 anymore.

Hmmmm... I just looked at the AT&T website - it was there last night, not there this morning.
I hope this doesn't mean they pulled it.
If they did my only hope is that they make the Moto X Pure available, but I am doubtful.

Get the unlocked version! That way you have options. IMO, over the next 2-5 years, we are going to see major changes in the way cellular, and probably all technology, services are handled. It would suck to be locked in for the next 2 years.
Im on Straight Talk for $50 a month and using AT&T towers in my area w/ 4g LTE. Unlimited everthing Full speed up to 5g and throttled after that. Unless you are grandfathered in on some amazing deal, being locked in always favors the carrier.
BTW, Best Buy has 6 month interest free financing.

I want the unlocked one, but funding is tight... plus so is the wife's purse LOL
She controls the money in the house so I play by her rules - happy wife, happy life!
Regarding the financing, I tried already - because I had a bankruptcy in the past 3 years Best Buy won't give me any credit (even though every other bank in the free world seems to be throwing it at me!)
My wife about cut me when I ordered our Nexus 6's because of the price haha! But now that she has one I doubt she'll let me get her out of the Nexus lineup from here on out. The Nexus community doesn't seem to die out like our devices often do. The hardware really isn't that dated. I admit the camera is a bit lacking on this device. Finding a case can be a challenge if you're a destroyer of phones like myself. But the speed, screen and speakers on this phone are amazing!
Case wise I had to get a unicorn beetle. It has saved my phone twice now.
I contacted AT&T via Facebook - all they could tell me is that it wasn't available right now - which doesn't necessarily mean that they will not have it again, just that it's not available NOW. Go figure...

New Nexus is coming out later on this month or next month. It's made by Huawei. Guess AT&T have just unloaded all their old stock. Amazon and ebay sellers are doing the same.
