[Q] XBACKUP - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
l've been using XBackup on my XDA IIi for years now.
Having moved over to HTC HD l would like to transfer my thousands of sms and favorites to my HTC. It is a big deal. l have tried downloading XBackup to my HTC but to no avail as it seems to be an Android App.
Does anyone know how to get XBackup onto a HTC HD?
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

No I'm afraid its not possible.....there's no way currently to backup sms from android to wp7 :/

Thanks for the reply. I think there's some confusion. I don't want to transfer from Android to W7. I merely need XBackup on a HTC HD.
Thanks.

currently there is no way to backup sms from a stock rom....u need to have atleast one kind of unlock....then you can backup sms

Can threaded SMS be installed

Hi Folks
I wonder if anyone knows how to do this? I've had a good look around, but cant find how to do it.
I've recently had my TYTN II replaced by Orange, my second one was delivered with a different ROM and radio to my first-its actually pretty good, i might not flash it for a bit!
The one thing its missing though is the threaded SMS which is in many (all?) of the WM6.1 ROMS (when they're grouped by contact/conversation).
Does anyone know if this can be added somehow?
one more quick one:
Ive installed the latest version of Opera Mobile-its an awesome browser. i cant seem to set it as my TYTN II's default browser though-anyone know how I could do this too please?
Thanks a lot in advance,
'tunes
Yes, it's possible. There are many progams that do this like Vito.
Thanks, but does anyone know if there's a way to update the messaging app to match whats in the 6.1 ROMs, rather than replacing it?
I used the threaded sms messaging from the palm systems. worked good.
Windows Mobile 6.0 does not natively support threaded SMS. Unless you are willing to upgrade to 6.1, you will need to install a 3rd party app like those already listed.
Thanks a lot folks.
Any thoughts on setting Opera mobile as my default browser?
I'm sure there's just gonna be a reg key that'll need changing, but I cant track it down.

Exporting SMS to Touch Diamond

Hey guys im new and all to this site but I really need some help.
So I recently purchased the TD. But my question is, if it is possible to export my sms messages from my old HTC SPV C550 to my new TD? I've tried a lot of these smsbackup tools but none of them seem to work on my spv (never updated the rom on the spv nor wm upgrade).
thx in advance
how about PIM backup. I use it for SMS and it work. MMS doesn't however.
Also try using backup software in TD box to backup from old phone and restore in new phone. I don't know if it'll install thought.
Yeah i tried PIM PPCPimBackupV2.8_wm2003se.zip
but when i try to boot it on my spv, nothing happens i see it running in task manager though. :/ the TD isn't the problem, the problem is getting my messages of my spv.

Maybe its u using a wm2003 Prog.
on a smartphone? i think u need a sm edition (at least wm5/6)
I dont think that it works on ur TD, coz of the different paths etc.
SMS arent made to transport to another device.
And i heard, thats a bad Idea to recover a backup on a different
device or rom
So i think the badest thing u can do, its from a sm to a ppc

HELP: Can't use PIM Backup after ROM update to WM 6.1

Hi everybody
I have upgraded to the official HTC WM 6.1 ROM... and I did not like that much.
naturally I wanted to change to another ROM, so I opened PIM Backup 2.8, and tried to create a backup of my contacts and SMSs ...
the Problem is the is NO "NEXT" button...
I can't complete the backup process...
and I don't want to risk using ActiveSync... I had all my contacts deleted once because of it.
PIM backup works in restoring info.. but I can't get it to backup
I have been searching the forum for the last three days to find a solution...but digging in through 94 pages of the same topic gave me nothing but headaches
I might have missed something....if so... Please share with me...
thanks in advance
P.S: I found that the device became a bit unresponsive after restoring my contacts ans SMS using PIM backup on WM 6.1, does anybody have something like that?
I could be talking out of my **** (wouldn't be the first time ), but I seem to remember reading somewhere on the forum that you need to disable the Threaded SMS before running PIM backup - assuming you've left it "ON" which is the default for WM6.1?? You can use Schaps' Advanced Config to disable it.
PIM backup works on my WM6.1 ROM (Garmin.DK.3 - Threaded SMS turned off) - have you tried just ticking the Contacts and not the Messages to see if the Next button is enabled then??
Mark.
yeah, I have tried that before, and it did not work for me
I'll try search the registry and delete anything related to PIM Backup... then use it again...
BTW, I love your signature
I just updated my Tilt to 6.1 and found out after I did that the Sprint backup that comes with the Tilt has to be upgraded. I had to hard reset my phone and start over. You can get the newer version from HTC for free as an upgrade. The problem I had was with the Tilt saying my email accounts were locked and none of the fixes would work, but I read other post about other problems as well.
I'm using HyperDragon III pro ROM, and the problem is still there...
any ideas?

Have you posted on the PIMbackup thread (here) - if not, you could try that?? If you have, and you've got no (satisfactory) response, you could always email Fred - DotFred - via his website.
Not wishing to cast aspersions, but, have you gone down the RTFM route - the PIMbackup user guide is on www.dotfred.net if you haven't already got it.
One last thing.....you could check out the tutorial from @scotchua's signature (link here) - which suggest that PowerSMS may also work. There's a 14-day unrestricted trial on the website here.
That's me all out of ideas - hope this lot gets you where you wanna be

[Q] Xperia destroyed!

I dropped it into the see, repair costs more then 2 new phones. I really liked the phone, and have two questions:
a) I've backup-ed my data with PIM Backup and sprite backup. Can I recover data for use with some other OS?
b) I wanted to get into mobile OS application development. Android is something I could transition easily because I've done java in the past, but windows 7 seems interesting as well. Windows 6.5.3 seems the thing of the past in that regard, so I'm not sure should I buy another used xperia, or go with different handset with different OS. Any suggestions?
About your Question bullet a.
I don't think there's an easy way to do that. I mean there's no specific application (that I know) able to do that.
But I can give two solution here.
1. Borrow your friend's WM.
Restore the PIM to that WM, then move 'em to ms outlook (using Windows Computer, of course!)
then using your OEM Android phone suit to move them to your android.
2. If you have no other WM (or your friend's WM can't be borrowed)
- Download Windows Mobile Emulator @ microsoft website (googling please)
- your backed up PIM should be restore using this EMU and then connect your emu to outlook through WMDC
- move the PIM back to android using your OEM's PC suit
The problem is in my case there's no option to restore SMS nor MMS. so...
For SMS, you may use SMS migrator.
SMS Migrator is a suite of tools that allows you to migrate your SMS Inbox and Sent Items from Windows Mobile to Android.
You may read the instuctions by Paul from MoDaCo for android (fortunately I bookmarked the link)
http://android.modaco.com/content/software/288916/windows-mobile-sms-migrator-beta-1/
But the instruction is not absolute success. I don't know the reason why. But it's fail on my Galaxy S but I'm not sure on my sold Milestone.
About your Q in bullet b, I don't get it. I'm not a programmer.
Hope this help.
thanks
You were very detailed! Thanks a bunch!

I never tried transferring from a windows phone, but I believe HTC Transfer Tool moves bookmarks, calendar, text messages, contacts, music, photos/videos and settings from your old device. I used it with an old android and it worked seamlessly but it should work just fine with a windows phone. If all else fails, I suggest syncing all your important info with your google account.
yeah the HTC tool works great on an Android device but I dont think they have a windows market place app out.
Its really for txt messages, think I will have to move windows contacts by hand which is like hard work!! lol

If not then you should back up the data using Zune, and then use HTC Sync manager to restore all that data. I think there are much easier way to do this maybe saving all the data using a HTC account rather than manually copying the whole thing!
