Galaxy Note or Galaxy S3? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I was wondering which phone you think I should get. I currently have the HTC EVO 3D but I think I want to try out Samsung for at least a year. I have pretty big hands, so the Note wouldn't be too big for me. Should I wait for Sprint's Galaxy Note, or Sprint's Galaxy S3? Thanks!

I went for G note in the end
I had the GS2 and had the exact same diliema of choice. I saw the GS3 on Friday and I think that it is really good and worth having a look at. I decided in the end to go for the note and I am very happy with the decision. The note is just so versatile and the extra size is a real blessing. Basically the note offers a flexibility that no other device has out there.
I would really have a good test drive on both phones because the GS3 is still quite amazing.

wait for GS3 IMO.but then again the choice is yours

hopefully the galaxy s3 for sprint comes out by july. if not, then I think waiting for the galaxy note for sprint would be a better thing to do.

SGS3 is superior to Note in every aspect except the screen size. Larger screen size is not a simple flavor tho. Everybody agrees once u get used to it u can never go back to anything under 5,3" . So if you could wait then wait for GNote 2 but there is no release date for now. And if you can't wait get both phones in your own hands and decide if you can settle down with smaller screen size. If you can settle with 4,8" then go for SGS3 with no hesitation. Otherwise i have no clear suggestion left to make as it's a tough decision. You can search youtube for SGS3 & GNote comparasion. 4,8" doesn't sound small compared to 5,3" but when u see both of them next to each other you will recognise only 0,5" makes huge difference

I am using both Galaxy S2 and Note. I use the Note more because of the big screen. If you prefer large screen then the Note is better. If not then the SG3 is better.

Depends on what you want to do with it. Do you need the extra screen real estate, do you have use for the stylus. What I did? I went to a shop and played a while with the note. Tried the stylus, the extra software that comes with it, the new calendar and most of all...the size of the device. I decided to buy the Note because it was more productive than my S2. Keep in mind that the Note feels a little slower than a S2.
No one else can make the decision for you...you have to give it a try yourself, if possible.
On the stylus issue.. Anyway I can link it up to a pc?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
try it out. Its mostly an yes but there are few no's too...
IF u get it make sure u use it for a few weeks. ( I hope they have 1 month return policy if u dint like it. ) The size does need getting used to. But once that is done, its an amazing device
Theres another thread around here with alot of post. Check it out.

Size is the biggest factor. You will look an idiot making calls in public there is no denying that, also it is more sluggish then s2. In my estimate bit like the original gs.
Buil is cheap and feels plasticky similar to s2.
You can get a bluetooth to avoid ever holding the phone against your ear in public or use the hands free kit.
Screen resolution is brilliant as surfing the net. Watching YouTube, videos, camera and video recording is brilliant. the best I have seen in this regards.
Has sd card slot another pro.
I would also suggest wait for upcoming HTC devices which will inmho more suitable and practical.
If you plan to use it as a media player I would consider holding off for now. Also not a lot of people can stand the grainy display a pentile has over an RGB stripe.. Better check the actual unit out before deciding.

I upgraded from the Galaxy S2 too. Both are great phones but the Note wins because of it's size. Worth upgrading definitely.

I just got my white Galaxy Note today and from the second that I opened the box, I was in love.
This thing is beautiful; its light, the screen is incredible, the stylus is practical and it's very fast.
I was really worried about upgrading from the SGS2, thinking that it would be a "SGS2 XL" but the overall experience is something completely new.
Only my opinion, obviously but I highly doubt you'll be disappointed

It's definitely worth it. You get used to it easily. It has all the features you need and battery lasts way more than Galaxy S2 with a proper kernel.
I've got them both and I could say that Sgs2 is smoother definitely but Galaxy Note form factor is amazing and the screen, apart from the black clipping and the banding that I hope Supercurio will solve with his app, is tremendous brilliant and clear for an easy reading.
The S-Pen is nice also but a little bit inaccurate when you write oin the screen.
If Ics will improove the snappiness and solve the screen issues it will be a monster for sure but for the moment I keep also Sgs2 with me everytime because it is a more supported phone by the community and also because, with the right modding, its battery is endless.
Hope it will help in your choice
I love my Note. It's big, at first, but now I find the S2, which my girlfriend has, too cramped and feel the Note as a normal size. Sure, it's less snappy than the S2, but that's no problem for me, cause it's still fast. And with ICS coming, it's bound to be even faster. I don't say either one is better, the Note has more to offer for me with the bigger real estate and stylus.
You'll have to make your own choice, but if I had to choose again, I would definately go for the Note again! You can wait for (even) better phones to come out, but whatever you do, better phones will come out whatever you choose. Enjoy the moment.

As what others have mentioned it depends on your usage, I was a short time Galaxy S2 user but I ended up returning it due to defects. I also had a chance to get to use the Galaxy Note for 7 days and noticed that it was not playing my media properly which is not acceptable for a device that is marked for 'HD', I believe that topic is extensively discussed here. But I really did like the device as I didnt need to bring my tablet along with me, size is absolutely perfect even for my small-ish hands, if ICS fixes the issue I'll probably get one back and ditch my tablet.

I am coming from an SGS2; I'd say definitely yes -- the screen + hardware is sweet. Can't go back...
I had HUGE reservations in getting Note due to it's size but I eventually took the plunge because of my smartphone addiction.
Out of all the high end handsets I have had this year (Sensation XL, Titan, Nexus Galaxy, SG2, Note, Iphone 4S), I must admit Note is my favourite.
It does have it's issues but so does every other handset out there.

There is an artical on the portal at the moment, but i would say its down to size realy no matter the spec.
If you are very physical or have tight jeans among other factors i would stick with the S2
I think the note has quite sharper images than the s2 which i used to dread for..

Sell or not to sell my gnote?

The question is how much to sell it and worth to sell it and buy the galaxy s3 or wait for note 2?

Personal preference really..
I could not go back to a smaller screen now I don't think so rules the S3 out..
Screen is much MUCH smaller when you use s3, especially bc it is 16:9.
If you do not have black clipping issue on your Note, I advise you to stick to it forever
Save this image and open it in galery. If you see numbers below 11, you have a black clipping issue. It is TOLERABLE if you see 8. Below 8: sell it
you are in the Galaxy Note section so people will tell you to keep the Note. on the other hand i have used the Note for a while and just recently switched to the S3. i say give the S3 a shot as it will last around 2 years or so and you won't have to change phones. the screen isn't THAT small. its still a pretty big handset compared to the general population of smartphones out there. personally i like it and if i need to watch something on a bigger screen i'd use my Galaxy Tab 7.7 or LED TV for that. but for a "phone" the S3 is pretty good, i love the camera it responds faster than the Note or any older model (even if you can use Fast Burst Camera, the quality of the S3 is far better due to the quadcore making it faster to process images in a jiffy). but if you're on a budget, the Note will serve you well for quite some time. screen wise it is still a SAMOLED display and it is still big.
i on the other hand, will be waiting for the Note 2 and will stick with my S3 at the same time (i have 2 carriers in use so its a win-win)
goodluck in deciding my friend. oh and if you decide to sell, sell it now because time will depreciate ALL values of phones. no phone will ever stick with its price tag. remember that
When you compare S3 screen with a 4.3 16:10 it is practically the same. I sold my Note and wanted to buy HoX or SIII but the screen is much smaller then Note and I will probably buy note again if I find one without a black clipping issue. I had htc HD2 before Note and I can say that the transition to s3 is minimal (comparing the screen sizes). Moreover, the screen on hd2 looks, and probably is, wider. Who likes big screens and had a Note will never buy any phone below it. I also have to add that Note is more towards a tablet than phone. But it is a pleasure to use. And I do not get the thing you said "if you are on a budget, the Note...". It is ~60 euros cheaper than S3, what the hell are you talking about? If that's "on a budget", than you must be a rich rich man

hahaha, sorry about that probably
the Note is nice, it served me well for quite some time. but my G-Tab 7.7 kinda rendered it useless. i'm not that much of an S-Pen user so maybe that's why i gave up on the Note easily.
for people who want to use their phone as something all in one, and want the big screen without caring about the quadcore and fast camera, yes to the Note. i mean i haven't even reached a point where i have to use all 4 cores of my S3, so dual core is still good. but c'mon, Note 2 will be exquisite, i'm expecting it to make my S3 obsolete so i won't have too many smartphones in hand.
EDIT: i know why i said that part, the Note is a whole lot cheaper in my country compared to the S3. the S3 here is around $680 while the Note is around $470. (had to calculate everything and convert hehehe)

also i am wondering about the development section on s3 because with the note section i am very happy with it.
I agreed with people say when you are using a big screen, you won't go back to small screen.
Note 2 have 5.5" screen and quad-core CPU. Hardware prices going down very quickly, personally, I would recommend your friend to wait for Note 2, and you stick onto SGN until it is worn out, probably there will be Note 3 by that time. ^.^

Which Phone do i consider if i want to trade my galaxy note off.
I would ideally want a cheaper option or preferably in the same cost bracket. i cant go for s3 or iphone 4s as they would be expensive. what i was planning is getting a galaxy nexus. Is it worth it? is it better than note, if i am looking for change? Please help
Note 2 or Note 3
edit, if you want a phone in same cost bracket go for s2 / galaxy r or ace 2

S2 would be a step backwards.. atleast with google nexus it would be amazing shape and i ll get the latest updates.
GNex. As somebody already said, S2 will be a step backwards, and for that matter even GS3 will be. Yes it has some cool stuff but for lots of us, its still not an upgrade. Go for Nexus or the Nexus 7 tablet and a cheap phone. Why I recommend 7 is because I don't know how you will manage with small screens now, for me it's next to impossible.

If you don't know what phone you want, why are you selling the Note ?
Anyway, how about new Sony Xperia handsets ? They're pretty nice.
Or Galaxy Nexus, this one seems to be perfect.
Or get the Galaxy S2 and Nexus 7 tablet if you don't mind carrying two devices with you. You should be able to get both in Note's price. I know many people consider S2 as "step backwards" but honestly i don't see the difference between S2 and Note in terms of performance...

As for nexus 7, i dont see myself carrying 2 devices. so i would prefer only a phone. moreover i dont like tabs

I think if you want better performance than s1 you should buy htc one x, or sgs3. Nexus 4 is very good think too .
It depends on your budget. Galaxy S II plus is coming soon, that might be a nice upgrade compared to the S plus. But the S III is a very nice phone too, but very expensive...
If you like a big ROM and developer community with the latest android versions, take the nexus 4. Depending on your budget you could think also about a note 2.

When I saw i9100 I wanted to have it, but it was too expensive and I bought i9000. Very good phone but recently I bought S2 and I'm also satisfied. I still have a fondness for S.
Buy something better, e.g S3, if you can afford.

Next phone after S1? S4 mini??

After using my beloved Galaxy S1 for more than 2 years I feel its time for an upgrade. I'm currently on a tighter budget than last time so Galaxy S4 is out of my reach. I've always been impressed with Samsung's build quality and memory reliability, and am worried about moving to another brand.
I've come across a cheap contract deal with decent enough minutes and stuff for a "Samsung Galaxy S4 mini" for £20/m in UK. I was going to go for a Galaxy S3 same price but compared, the S4 mini was that bit faster on youtube videos I watched. I like the look of S4 mini as it feels very similar to S1, not to big to handle, and faster.
What I want to know if what other people (on a budget) think of S4 mini and what phone they would upgrade to next while being on a budget?

someone in my family got an S4 mini and it is very great device...the camera is very good and it has a good performance...dual-core up to 1,7 Ghz and a few more RAM like our "good old device"
When i would upgrade i would prefer s4 mini or nexus 4 , maybe nexus 5 (should be released in the next weeks!) ... but it is my opinion...

Or like GalaxySN00B:0 said you wait for the release of Nexus5 and look if you can get it ...
When all the speculations are right, it will be a great device for the half of the prize of an iphone and so on ...
