Hi,
I don't know if this question been asked before. Before returning the tablet for a replacement, I was just wonder if anyone have the same issue.
"My tab can only connected to HSPA mode and can't connect to LTE". Is this normal?
I have a tab 8.9 SGH-i957 and a Galaxy Note. With my Galaxy Note I would able to connect to 4G LTE (32 Mb download using speed test) but my Tab can only connect to HSPA (2-4 Mb download speed). I tested both the Galaxy Note and Tablet side by side in my house.
Does anyone have the same problem or do I have a defective tab?
Call tech support and they told me that SGH-i957 can only do HSPA. I argued with him that ATT website spec said that it is LTE support. Finally he gave up and tell me to go to the store and prove that to them. If that is the case then I may have a defective tab.
Thanks!
I decided to do one thing before returning the tablet. I do a factory reset and reboot. Voila! There is my 4G LTE connection. I am curious as to why it was not connected to 4G LTE before and instead connected to HSPA only.
1. Connected to my Wifi , disconnect my Wifi and 4G LTE connection return.
2. Turn on the air plane mode then switch off the air plane mode. Guessed what my 4G turn back on but refuse to connected to LTE instead it stay connected to 4G HSPA. I rebooted 3 times and toggle on / off air plane mode and still it won't connect to 4G LTE.
3. Again, factory data reset. Then I can connect to 4G LTE again without issue.
Hence, I am not gonna touch that airplane mode again.

When I get LTE area, my phone can't get 4g LTE symbol automatically.
(I live in Virginia)
SO~~ I have to restart my phone, then I can get 4g LTE symbol!!
How can I get it automatically??
Go to airplane mode, and turn it off, it will flip the radio back on. Only way I know to do it without restarting your phone.

I travel in and out of LTE coverage all the time; and have never had any problem with the LTE coming back on when in coverage again.

have same problem....I live in VA but work in DC. I have noticed that if im in VA and the signal is low it may drop out of LTE, but once I get a good signal it come back to LTE. However, if I go into DC and come back to VA, no matter how good of a signal I have, it never switches back to LTE. The only way is to pull the battery (airplane mode doesnt do it). I spoke to an att rep and they said it might be an issue whit the phone...planning to get it swapped out; will let u know if anything changes.
I already changed my phone because it was defective one!!!! one more change?...OMG..
when i drop out of an LTE area, it takes a few minutes after getting back into LTE for it to reconnect.
my old device could get 4g lte signal easily when I was into the 4g lte area, but my new device is not!!! two device are different to connect 4g signal...
Hello everyone. Been wrestling with this all day. I purchased a barely used samsung galaxy tab 8.9 AT&T 4G LTE. It works fine with wifi, but I want to use it on my worksite where there is decent signal, but no wifi. Bought an AT&T SIM card, and put it in. I have full bars (signal), but no internet access. I have packet data turned off, as some forums have indicated this could fix it, but to no avail. With wifi turned off, the tablet status still says mobile network disconnected. Anyone have any ideas of what I could try? Thanks for any help.
EDIT: With packet data turned on, AT&T's data tracking widget says initializing, then goes to connection failed. With packet data off, it shows appropriate data usage (0mb at this point) and displays signal, but it still says no internet connection.
Did you get the right plan provisioned for the SIM? The Tab 8.9 is configured to use the "Broadband" APN by default so if you're not provisioned for that it won't work.
You need a data plan and a lte sim.

Using a Telstra I9305T, I'm interested to know why this happens, and if it can be fixed.
The scenerio is: Streaming radio in a "H+" area. When entering a 4G zone, the zone will not automatically switch to "4G" unless the streaming is stopped, and the connection idle for about 10 seconds. It then drops from "H+" to "3G", and then from "3G" to "4G".
So basically, the phone will switch from "4G" down to "H+/3G" when leaving a 4G zone, which is expected, but the reverse will not occur unless the connection is idle.
Anyone else seen this problem?
Possible reasons...
- modem.bin needs improving?
- network bug?
- I9305T bug?
- ROM bug?
- standard behaviour?
This also happens on Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE and Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE in Hong Kong, but it do not take so much time for it. However, it still needs 30 seconds to auto switch to LTE.
However, LTE phones are already on LTE network when booting in Korea
In July, I got SHV-E210S which is a Korean model of Samsung Galaxy S3 which supports LTE. However, it do not auto switch to LTE network unless IMS is available. I use Hong Kong SmarTone SIM and got the problem that I have to lock the phone to LTE and it is unable to receive calls.
hmm interesting. That first video demonstrates the same as what I've said...only entering 4G once the connection is idle. I guess the question is why it happens..
Does anyone know how to force the note 4 to use HSPA+ instead of 4G?
The reason why i ask is because in areas where i cannot get 4GLTE the note 4 goes into 4G and its basically unusable (~1mbps maybe, most of the time i cannot even perform a speed test) eventhough the 4G is with 5 bars. In the same exact area HSPA+ gets very good speeds of 6mbp+
To test this, i forced 4G on my note 4 at my house and got a 1mbps speed test. Before upgrading to the note 4 from t-mobile i had an old note 2 from verizon running H+ getting 6mbps+ at my home.
Update: i really think the note 4 or the modem is causing the issue. Testing again my my house. When i first force the 4G connection the speed test are horrible. (< 1 mbps). After some time it seems idling in 4G it seems i got pushed into H+ reframed?(but still 4g icon) and getting consistance 6mbps.
I also noticed that the note 4 drops LTE to 4G at 2 bars or so when LTE speeds is definitely present and running at 20mbps
Hspa+ shows as 4g. If you go to other network settings where the apn is you can select lte, wcdma, options. In remote areas my 4g speed is better than my lte . The lingo is kinda weird so every carrier has different definitions of 4g. Hspa+ is technically 3.5g lol.
The app Advanced Signal Status let's you choose your network type.
Install it from play store and lock it to what you want. Try phone calls and SMS for the modes you try because some modes will be data only.
I noticed this today at home. I forced it to WCDMA mode only, it took like 10 mins for it to eventually show "4G" at my home office. The signal and download speed were terrible when forced into WCDMA hspa mode+ (4G) . In the same room and home my Note 3 would get a very good signal this time last year when I used the Note 3.
Perhaps T mobile has done something to the cell site here? Or The Note 4 isnt working as it should?
Ive had the same issue. So i work in one city and live in another. So when i get to work my data is slooooow. I force it to 4g and after a while back to lte. Speeds are fine. Same thing happens when i get home. Tmo told me to just restart my phone but that doesnt always work
Same situation with me. LTE tower doesn't reach my room but I got 10mbps in my living room....and my room I get less than 1mbps and goes to lte to 4g often with very slow speeds. I even have a LTE booster which doesn't really help much with speed. Without the lte booster I get almost 0 signal in my room
I used to have same problem during lte upgrade in my area. On lte around 8+ up and down while on 4g speds were 15-20 down and less than 2 up. Ping times were longer on 4g. After upgrade I no longer need to switch between lte and 4g

But is T Mobile removing their 4G HSPA wcdma towers? I used to get a very good db signal in my office, now -115db at best for 4G in same location but band 4 700Mhz is now present? Any relationship between these ...
See the below screen shot. On that menu you can pick the non LTE function and force H+. You can also switch back to LTE.

Thanks I had already figured out how to.force a specific data connection , hence why that thread I posted was asking what the default option is, since I didn't write it down.
But back on subject, 4G next to non existent now at home after 700mhz band 12 availability.

What is UMTS? I never get Hspa+
I've found that my data is ridiculously slow (I'm talking edge speeds) when I turn WiFi off, even when I am in an area that gets a strong LTE signal. I feel like my device does not automatically connect to the best available tower; rather, it seems to try to latch on to whatever tower it was connected to before I connected to WiFi. Toggling "mobile data" off then on again seems to reconnect my device to the closer/better tower and the speed improves drastically. (It's possible that toggling airplane mode or network modes will do the same thing). When you are in an area that has poor LTE, you might consider keeping it off. Change the selection from “LTE/WCDMA/GSM” to just “WCDMA/GSM” and you'll be on the slower HSPA+ network (though, I believe it still shows the 4G icon). You can always change it back when you are in a better area.
4G is back up and running in my home location. Must have been temp disabled when they rolled out 700mhz band 12 LTE in my area.

how do i force 4g+ / LTE advanced connection on this phone? such that whenever i turn on my mobile data it connects to 4g+ automatically and stays connected and doesn't fall back to 4g network?
reason for this is : my phone connects to 4g network and i get 1-2Mbps speed. With 4g+ i get 15-20Mbps but i have to restart my phone to connect to 4g+ network. So it gets annoying having to restart the phone again and again just so to connect to 4g+

Dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information and choose LTE only from list.
Hi
4636 not working for realme (not for me) but xiaomi phones. Download 4g switcher from playstore. It looks like the hidden menu in xiaomi phones.
