Hi. I'm a relatively new Touchpad owner, and I've settled on CN Butta as my daily Android ROM, but I also use WebOS quite a bit. I have a lot to learn, but I'm (slightly) less stupid than I was, and getting less and less stupid every day. Unfortunately, my stupidity is getting in the way of fixing a minor problem. When I installed CN Butta, it set a default Moboot screen that is really really bright, like way brighter than the Touchpad ever is when it's running Android or WebOS. I removed the screen with ClassicNerd's Moboot cleaner zip, but when I updated his ROM today, the super-bright screen came back. How can I adjust the brightness on Moboot so it doesn't come up so bright?
I thought about posting this in the CN Butta thread, but that's in the developer section, and I am still WAY too stupid to post there, and this is a question anyways. I hope I am doing this right and not pissing anyone off. Thanks for your time in reading.
I don't think you can bring it down.... I think what you'll have to do is change the background of which there are several...
But seeing as its only there for a few seconds what does it matter?

It matters when you're in bed in a dark room, and a brilliant flash of light disturbs the person trying to sleep next to you. I'll look into the themes, I was just hoping there was a way I could lower the brightness without having to change the theme every time I update my ROM, since this particular ROM changes it back to brilliance mode every update.
Hmmm... dunno what to tell you but my Moboot theme hasn't changed since I flashed the one I found and liked

Suggestion? Perhaps you could turn the device face down during initial bootup? So as not to disturb the person next to you trying to sleep?
Also if brightness is a concern for you during the night while the person next to you is trying to sleep. You may want to consider installing Chainfire3D, it has an excellent option for Nightmode use. I use it regularly at night. Also by the same developer there is an app called CF Lumen. It's similar as the Nightmode with Chainfire but with more lighting options.

i know hurts my eyes looking at it. supposed to give excellent battery life though.
no it does not, i ran a test (its in the general section) because of the "render" it slows your phone down considerably and wastes cpu cycles ergo negating any battery life you would have saved (if you had an oled screen), but since we have an lcd screen EVERY pixel is lit up regardless if its in use or not. i had 29 hours with almost no use, people on here get longer then that with a bit of use...
TL: DR slows your phone down, does make it look cool if your into that, but it doesnt save battery from what ive seen
I would love this app and I dont care if it kills my battery. The green is nice for using screen at night. Better then white screen at night. So do we have a answer where can we get it? Running droidX.
If you are using CM6, it is in Settings > Cyan Settings > Render effect.
You can also add a render fx widget to your home screen. Add it like any other widget.

You're right. The whole idea of showing only one color exploits the technology of OLED and its ability to only light up pixels on demand. LCD works by having the entire backlight always on, with polarizers selectively attenuating the light appropriately for each pixel. That's why LCD cannot achieve true black like OLED, and that's why OLED contrast ratio tests destroy LCD.
Since our Hero has the latter technology, this has absolutely no positive effects for us. Don't use it unless you like less colors.
So I have torn apart most of cyanogenmod's roms and settings trying to find this. So if anyone has it please upload that would be awesome

i actually used to use this for getting late night calls in bed and it hasn't worked properly after one of the many updates since August. Once the phone unlocks its back to normal. Anyone else?
Google dropped the ball on this one. First, no gps button. Second, the buttons that do exist only take you to a menu (ie, the wifi menu) from where you can actually turn things on or off. Also, apparently no ability to customize whats in the quick settings.
With all the great implementations of quick settings available in both custom roms and widgets, google had a lot of great ideas from which it could have modeled its own quick settings, but somehow it managed to put out this worthless piece of garbage. I think most people will have to keep using widgetsoid or notification toggle and google's quick setting will almost never be used. What a disgrace.

The kind of people who want to badly customize it, is also the kind of people who do not need settings to do it.
I'm fine with it, if anything it'll probably only take the CM team a few minutes to change the functionality of it.

I agree. If anything, it gives a new platform/base for CM or other developers to build upon and a pretty spiffy one at that. I think it's a great first release for a feature. Just because you can see the future of it in current roms or inherently tell where it's going doesn't mean it shouldn't be a welcomed improvement. Could they have made it better? Of course, but that's not a reason to overreact and call it a "disgrace".
Yeah, I don't know what they're thinking. The buttons should obviously be toggles for quickly turning things on and off, not shortcuts to various settings menus. That's what the regular settings button in the notification shade is for. I was really excited when I first heard about this feature, since I expected Google to do the logical thing and put a bunch of useful toggles in there, but what they've ended up doing seems pretty pointless to me.

A great first release? I think it's a horrid first release. It takes as many clicks to turn wifi on or off in this implementation as it does under the current ics or jelly bean 4.1 without the so-called quick settings. Moreover, this is hardly a new feature. It has been around in roms and widgets literally for years. People want one-touch access to the most commonly used settings, and this so-called quick settings fails to provide that. And who the heck made the decision not to put gps in there?
Even as a first release, Google should have surveyed what is currently out there and tried to make its implementation at least as useful. I think it utterly failed. If you don't, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Thank you... I am not sure how anyone could disagree. Yeah, the two fingers to swipe down is cool, and maybe people think it looks nifty, but functionality is nearly nonexistent. And isn't functionality what android users demand first and foremost? If I want a beautiful but useless user interface, I'll look to apple.

Do like me, ignore them and hope CM will keep what they are doing best...
I liked the idea of swiping twice to bring a second notification shade down. But yeah, them just linking to settings pages sucks a little. The ideal setting is to tap to toggle or hold to dive in and change settings in detail.
Ever since I found about about most settings just directing you to the appropriate settings menu, I was also disappointed.
The only proper toggle I think there is brightness, it brings up a little popup in the middle of the screen with a slider.
google's probably going to update it soon
Keep your opinions in here
Google ******* fails again...

I come from the line of thinking that if my screen is darker then it's probably not using as much power, granted that difference may be minimal.
Is there anyway we can modify the layout of the pull-down device settings like the wifi tether icon doesn't seem to work on the Sprint version unless you have a specific data plan so I'd like to either remove it or swap it out with the application that I run for tether

Well, your line of thinking is incorrect. Imagine your phone is on full brightness and you put a piece of tint on the front of the screen. It will appear to be darker right? But in reality, it's just not projecting the light because you have a filter over it. Screen filter is exactly the same thing. There is no battery savings to be had with it.
Toggles will be edited for next release to fix/remove those that don't work or are useless. A

Glad to see this thread. I only noticed it once but I thought I was imagining it. Yeah it drops the brightness off by a decent margin which makes no sense. For me, it's still usable in sunlight but the full brightness would be better. I have auto brightness turned off as well as attentive display. Dunno what it is.

Thanks, I haven't checked. Based on others' recommendations I downloaded Lux from the market and I am extremely happy with the feature set. After playing with it for a bit I immediately purchased the full version to support the dev. I'm impressed!

Greetings all,
What is it ?
I found this application in the Goole Play store which simulates the "Always On Display" feature for all AMOLED devices.
It is basically turns all pixels in AMOLED screen into black except the selected pixels for the clock. Yes it works with all kind of screens however it causes battery drain for non AMOLED screens.
Issues:
- Doesn't work well with fingerprint as you need to tap the home button every time you need to open the screen
- Doesn't work with 3rd party lock screen apps.
note:
Please note that I'm not the developer, I just know the developer and I can communicate with him issues.
or you can directly do so in the comments section in the Play Store

Unless I'm missing something, I don't see any option to automatically move the clock around the screen. It gives you the option to have it be on the top center or bottom of the screen, but no option to automatically move it around to prevent burn-in.

I have done but the drain tends to be the same either way.
Amplify has had a good impact on my phone but at the moment i don't use that either, for me it's really about the apps that want to constantly update, so facebook, twitter etc.
Is this different with our default clock's "night mode"?
night mode also automatically move the time.
any tap on the screen will return it to the lockscreen, if its locked, returns to the clock menu if unlocked.
