[Q] Replacing Default Call screen ? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm on stock 2.1 update 1 , rooted phone, Can I change my callscreen ? (when a call comes) to something cool ?
the only problem I have with default screen is mute button, it automatically gets press when my cheek touches the screen

Try "ultimate call screen" app from store...
Press THANKS if I tried to help...

How can that happen? When u put ur phone near ur ear screen locks it self automaticly.
Maybe try Cm7 CUSTOM ROM it has option to hide mute button in call.
Hit thanx if i helped.

@harshitgroup already tried that app , not my cup of tea and poorly written !
@pipi14, it happens sometimes, and I don't use custom roms co'z they lack in speed and has bugs here and there !

Okei then, ur saying that stock rom is fast and smooth. Deem, i used stock rom like one hour cuz its slow as hell and looks ugly as well.
And it supports very little number of apps.
Hit thanx if i helped.

I don't think it worth the risk of unlocking boot loader + blah blah blah, I will go for xperia Ray then.. planning to sell X8 co'z it has a slow processor and no flash support as well as no multitouch.
what rom you recommend let's see ? I've tried Ginger DX once and hated it. it was damn slow.

GingerDX v26 is fast and smooth even with stock kernel. But I don't like that cuz with stock and Alfs for GDX kernel my phones wifi works maybe 2 minutes. MiniCm7 and nAa-11 rocks and it don't have bugs.

i have the same problem, when someone calls me the phone starts ringing but the screen stils for 3/5 seconds only showing the statusbar.
i only get this only in call screen 1-2 seconds lag but don't have lag in look screen gdx 011 no o/c.
i remove some of the system apk files that i don't use ie theme chooser, a theme and some other's
Try using GoDialerEx and see if the problem persists. Could just be an oddity with the stock dialler.
You wipe the phone before putting the rom on your phone? I didn't at first but did just last night and it fixed most of my issues TBH.
yeah i always do factory wipes before rebooting new roms.. i didn't have this problem with froyobread so i'm guessing its a cm7 problem.. =(

Maybe I get lag sometimes but it is not to that level and I use GingerDX V011. Usually a second or so. Was way worse before I did a full wipe. Sound distortion and sometimes couldn't even answer calls as phone froze.
I didn't realise the difference a full wipe would make, how naive of me

whill my actions kill my phone?

just wondering will my action destroy my phone? eg. in term of speed / battery life etc.
1.removing battery when phone hanged
2. constantly changing mod
3.entering xrecovery
4.always enter xrecovery
5.reviving your bricked phone
will my phone die slowly from my actions?
No way. Also you can always use PC companion to fix the bricked phone.

I have tried almost 10 ROM's but i finnaly stuck with GingerDX. I will try out the ICS ROM when v004 arrives to see if it is better
I bricked it once but i dont notice any performance degrades or anything so i dont think it kills the phone slowly

It depends upon you what is your preference. Gingerdx is gingerbread whereas froyopro is froyo. Ginger bread has some limitations an the roms are not so stable yet. Froyo has been tested and is best for x8.
I have tried almost every ginger rom availabe on xda but am using linuxperia from last week. Is quite stable with alfs kernal. Make a opinion for your self and try to stick with a stable rom.

Not able to agree with you ...
GingerDX is stable and smooth for me (no mods like "let's pretend Gingerbread turned into a Ice Cream Snack", no overclock, no other ****ing-around-with-it-to-get-it-deliberately-unstable). Market 3.2.6 works as great as somehow possible and I NEVER experienced the market throwing a FC. Camera / Barcode Scanner works for me without a problem as well.
Battery life is also acceptable ... 2-3 days under normal circumstances ... a whole lot less if I happen to play "utter retard" and leave WiFi or 3G enabled 24/7.
I think the majority of GingerDX users will tell you the same.
That being said ...
YOUR experience entirely depends on your usage. If you mod your ROM to death (just because you can't resist installing each and every mod or tweak that pops up in the "Apps & Themes" section) you better expect bugs and instability to happen. Same goes for installing tons and tons of apps. At the end of the day it's a _phone_, it's not a personal computer where 50+ apps "to get things done"(TM) are the norm.
Also - better keep in mind that we're talking about custom ROMs here. While the devs do a great job in delivering the best solution there's always the possibility that the sources, out of which they build their ROMs, contains bugs or glitches.
If you want something STABLE you need to stick with the stock ROM (which, in my experience, was a lot more crash happy than Froyobread or GingerDX).

50?
Let me count (excluding the ones coming with ROM) ...
1 - 3G Watchdog
2 - AirDroid
3 - Barcode Scanner
4 - ClockSync
5 - Google+ / Messenger (all the same thing)
6 - gReader
7 - Google Docs
8 - IM+ Pro
9 - KeePassDroid
10 - Maps / Lattitude / Navigation / Places (all the same thing)
11 - Market (just mentioned because I flashed the 3.2.6 update)
12 - Google Music
13 - MX Video Player / ARMv6 Codec
14 - Pogoplug
15 - Root Explorer
16 - SMS Backup+
17 - Titanium Backup
And that's it ...
44,43MB free memory (at an uptime of 1 week+)
In short ... the more apps you install the more background tasks you may have running eating up your free memory ... and as we know funny things start to happen when Android runs low on RAM.

[Q] Need to wait a while for the screen to turn on

Hey,
So my dad isnt exactly satisfied with the custom ROM I flashed on his device, he needs to wait about 4 - 5 seconds (!) when theres an incoming call for the screen to turn on. The ringtone will keep on going off during that few seconds, but the screen will be black.
So I tested it on my Nexus 4, and no such issue has been spotted by me. Although, on his device, no matter how many times I tried, the issue was never gone and I had to wait a couple of seconds for the screen to turn on so I could see who's calling.
I'm not sure whether it is a kitkat issue or not, I tried 2 different roms, first BeanStalk, and now CyanFox, both had the same issue.
I also tried to flash CM10.1, but the keyboard kept on crashing after a fresh flash, wipes didnt help (maybe someone could give me a hand here?).
Another question is, where can I find some good call recording app? the ones from the play store aren't good, they only record one side of the call, never both
tl;dr:
is there some setting that I should change for the screen to turn on quicker when theres an incoming call on kitkat?
what to do if I want to downgrade from kitkat to jellybean?
is there some GOOD call recorder app around?
thank you

hey, thanks for your reply
actually no, STOCK 4.1.2 didnt have this issue, it started to show when I flashed 4.4.2 on it, is there some sort of fix for this or do I have to downgrade to JB? I'd rather stick to KK as I prefer it more.
on the other hand my dad hated google hangouts and he wants the stock messaging app back, I guess I can only go with CM
also I cant install a keyboard from the market, because I cant even log in to my google account, I cant get through the setup without a few things crashing over and over again, every second or so. the keyboard doesnt even show up
delete the latinIme.apk from the zip file you are trying to flash and substitute it with one from the other roms you tried flashing.
I know how to control the delay with which the ringer starts but not screen :s
These commands I think only help when call ends but it doesn't hurt to try, add them (or check the values if already present)
to build.prop in zipfile before you flash it
Code:
ro.lge.proximity.delay=5
mot.proximity.delay=5
I am on kitkat right now and have no lag issue...have you tried changing kernel?

I flashed Nameless ROM and surprisingly the lag issue is gone, and due to stripped gapps I flashed, I got the old messaging app back, which is quite the perfect combo, now the only thing I am missing is a good call recording app, is there a chance you can suggest one to me?
thanks again!

well I tried it out, the rom is nice and all, but my phone is extremely slow, the lag issue with phone calls is back, sometimes turning the screen off is impossible, or takes up to 2 minutes (!). turning it back on isnt much better either, I dont know what the problem is, the same thing happened on the BeanStalk ROM so I assume it isnt a software issue, but a hardware one, do you have any ideas what could be the problem and how can I solve it?
I want to tell you my experience about custom roms.
I don't know if you tried this combo: CM11 + kicos kernel (modified iodak's kernel) + minimal PA gapps
I works for me very well.

yeah, but shouldnt all the 4.4.2 ROMs be quite snappy? doesn't kitkat reduce the hardware requirements? why would JB work fine (or so I think, I'll go back to stock in a few mins and see) and KK be laggy as hell?
I've got a theory, I'm not a hardware guy and I dont know if I'm right or not, but:
could be that one of the cores is damaged and the system tries to switch some tasks to the damaged core (if android handles different cores the way I think) and that core doesnt really work the way it should, causing the entire system to work like a granny?

This is probably some wake/lock problem with software. Also on my o2x i've noticed strange lag when i press the power key it has lag until the screen comes on buttons below the screen light and after a couple of seconds the screen. It has 4.3 CM rom there if your father is using this phone i would suggest you some stock based rom with custom kernel. They should not have problems like these.

could be, however, it isnt only for the power button, when the screen is off and a call is coming, it needs a few seconds for the screen to turn on, after the call is done, the system is all choppy and laggy. Turning the screen off after that is also nearly impossible, due to power button malfunction. I went back to stock for now and I'll see if the lag is gone, if it isnt, then its probably a hardware issue.
edit:
yeah, I'm on stock 4.1.2 and the issue isnt gone.
crap.
sounds like a problem in the timing the processor uses for scaling frequencies...
hav no idea what could be causing it unless you have some kernel tweak app and set wrong values
Have you tried clean flashing the Roms you installed? Have you Factory-Reset, Cleared cache, cleared Dalvik cache, and maybe did a system partition format before flashing?

[Q] Questions for 1st android flashing

Hello guys...
well... this is will be my first flash using android tools ((from symbian i'm quite used to it)).... this is my second android ((today I own a Xperia Z1 and before a Motorola Razr i, which i never flashed))...
and I have some questions regarding this flashing procedure.... some one mind just clarify me around some doubts ??
1 - after I flashed my mobile and if I regret, can i reinstall the flash the sony fw in the same way? i mean, download it from sonymobile.com and flash it? is this works?
2- these custom roms to Z1 ((cyanogem, miui, and so on)) are the pure android with sony drivers OR are they the same from sony but modified? I'm asking this because i like ((and use so much)) the sony features like stamina, throw, screen mirroring ((I use this one a lot to play on my tv))... If these ""sony features"" doesn't come ""out of box"" when I flash a custom rom, can i install them later?? I never saw any video showing these stuffs or any at all...
3- these custom roms can I enable and disable animations and other things to enhance my phone?? because with my previous phone ((Motorola Razr i)) i was able to do this and much more, and this save battery a lot... can I do this?? if yes, mind to attach a screenshot to show what can do? I was reading many other forums ((including from sonymobile) and even there they complain about drain battery and random freezes, just like I'm having these days....
4 - Ok... i read a lot but I couldn't understand exactly what is TWRP.... mind to explain as if i 6yo?? =)
5 - Is it normal to screen not shows up when I press the power button to ""wake up"" the screen?? I mean... sometimes i want to check my phone, and when I press the Power button the screen just freezes in black, not showing anything .... and just show something after some seconds ((ten or more)) or after i press the Power button for some seconds as if i want to shut it down.... this happens more ""often"" if i press the Power button to lock and after 2, 3 seconds i have the need to use the phone again ((which this never happen with my Razr i))...
6 - my phone heats a lot.... i mean.... a really lot.... is that normal?? i was reading about this and many other z1 owners complains from this same thing...
thanks in advance =)
1. Yes
2. If you install cyanogen or other AOSP roms, you need to unlock bootloader. also you will loose stamina mode and other sony features. i dont think you can get them back, look around in other sections.
3. It could. Honestly, my z1 hasn't frozen on me ever. I am on stock rooted 761 fw. If you want to disable animations go to developer options and disable the animations there, you can do it both in stock sony and aosp.
4. Twrp is a recovery, you need it to flash roms and do backups of your phone. Team win recovery project.
5. I do not know if its normal as my z1 is very responsive, no delay in screen opening time even when i underclocked the cpu to 1.7Ghz
6. Yes it does tend to heat up after prolonged gaming etc. You can lessen it by underclocking. It works trust me

minor questions regarding your answer...
#3 - mine z1 freezes everyday... and i dont have too many apps installed... just a few.... for real... like 20 apps... only 2 games...
#4 - ok... finally i got it =)
#5 - mind to make a test with your own? press the power button normally, as if you gonna lay it down... then, after 2 or 3 seconds, press again the power button, as if you wish to check the hours or a message.... try this at least 5 times if you dont mind..... so... it worked all the times flawlessly?
#6 - nope.... even if im not using it.... not doing anything at all...

#3 - maybe the RAM is cluttered?
#5 - I did it around 8 times. Turned off the display, waited for 2-5 seconds then turned it on. Works flawlessly. No lag. My device is even underclocked when it is in sleep or display off. When the display is off, i set it to run between 300 - 900something Mhz because I found that the device could still respond without any lag with that setting when turning the display on. When the display is on its 300Mhz to 1.7Ghz.
#6 - maybe have it checked at a sony center.

I have this problem too!
First with 205 Telekom HU and now with eXistenZ 4.0. When this happens the screen is not responding.
I suggest you bring it to Sony While your warranty lasts...
Try flashing the .254 JB 4.1 FW before flashing any Stock Based Custom ROMs

Hi?
Jump screen in 205 is fixed but yellow screen and stuck in some time is big bug.
Do you guys that have this problem all have the same model? C5302/C5303/C5306
Sent from my C5303 using XDA Free mobile app
My phone is c5303
So have me this problem in custom roms use base 205 and stock.
Mine is C5303.
I am having this issue also on ExistenZ 4.0 and I had it on a stock deodexed 205 ROM.
Its like the screen just stops responding and fades away as if the contrast/color just fades away to a browner image of whatever is on the screen, then after a few seconds, it pops back to normal contrast/colors and the screen responds as normal. Happens quite frequently with chrome for me, i'm going to look at alternative browsers, but im sure its happened while using the XDA app also, while scrolling through a board.
Edit: also happened in youtube while watching a video.
Edit 2: Fully restored my phone to stock with PC Companion and it gave me stock 205, the same fading happens, has to be a bug specific to 205 firmwares.

Stock .205 + CWM/TWRP for LBL + root + Deodex + most of "Junk" and standard apps removed + Black dialer, phonebook, conversations etc. (Only Settings and SEMCSettings white) yellow display happends after heavy load of CPU/GPU (Benchmark, game) for 1-2sec and everything goes back to normal. Happens only when i turn off heavy load app.
