It will obviously be bricked let me explain
2.2.1 + cm7 = black screen
2.3.+ + cm7 = colorful screen (working phone)
Cm7 needs gingerbread
(Correct me if im wrong)
Sent from my thanks button
You may want to install the CM7 from HERE ... that's what I did straight from 2.2 Froyo to get my device to 2.3

Changing your boot animation will not brick your device.
But I seriously doubt you will be able to successfully change the bootanimation on a stock Samsung rom.
Samsung uses some goofy proprietary format for their bootanimations, unlike CyanogenMod, which uses the bootanimation.zip format.
Just flash CM7 and use any bootanimation.zip, or make your own. You'll be happier that way and save yourself some bother

Download Gingerbreak 1.2 APK via XDA app via your phone and run it. Root done!

Webtop over HDMI
Download zip in post below... rename old files (odex and apks in system/app) to .bak and copy new files there using root explorer. Phone will loop on force close when you rename portal.apk but just take battery out and power it back on.

The only thing I wanted is webtop. I'm very impressed by it. Can watch BBC iplayer on my TVs via flash on my phone!

So you confirm there is no way to get gingerbread on Orange Atrix for now?
I would add that CWM and gingerblur / greyblur are working for me using this:
http://briefmobile.com/atrix-4g-rom-installation-guide
Guys a little help needed please.
I have a Orange UK Atix and was on the stock rom and installed Gingerblur through Tenfars CW Mod, the problem being when it had installed and I rebooted from CWM my phone is stuck in a boot loop ( the phone wont go past the moto boot logo and has the LED notification light flashing red ).
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
All help is greatly appreciated.

No I can't confirm that but I'm not going to be the first to try!

Gingerblur is for the Atrix 4g isn't it? Is that not slightly different hardware? Ie you've probably bricked your phone. Although guy above said he flashed it so best pm him or try a reflash and wipe.
Personally I don't see the point in risking a flash for the same os with a gingerbread theme. Theres not going to be any advantage. I only put the other hacks as they are relatively risk free and you can unroot or remove the patched webtop etc if you have any issues.

Goto the stock android recovery and do a data wipe/factory reset after that take both your SD & SIM out and power it back on, you can put back the SIM & SD after its working.

yep this should fix it, but using gingerblur over orange rom is a bad idea, different framework files etc. it should work but i wouldnt recommend it, google UOT kitchen and you can make your own gingerbread theme for the orange rom as long as your rooted
How do I go to the stock android recovery?
hold vol down while turning on, then keep pressing it until it says android recovery then press vol up, then when it shows an android logo you have to tap the bottom right corner of screen a few times to get options to show up
Works great on t-mobile stock.

thanks guys.... managed to sort it....
Plugged the charger in and got into Tenfars CWM and fortunately I had made a back up prior to installing it.
Can I ask one more favour.... Has anyone made a gingerbread theme with UOT Kitchen? If so is it possible I could get a copy of it please.

ok guys here is the deal. I just flashed teamhacksung's CM9 ALPHA for Captivate (BUILD 16) and faced multiple problems :
-no service at all
-phone doesnt recognize internal sd card, and keeps asking to insert sd card to be able to use camera and media player
-no option to choose wifi that i want to use
-cannot connect phone with computer via usb even mass storage is on
I need help desperately guys as soon as possible!!! can someone tell how to fix these problems, or tell me how to fix connection problems so i can copy another rom to my phone, or maybe how to go back to stock settings and stock rom !!
try flashing different ROM, may be?
Nostalgia 2.1 is out.
Check the sticky in the dev section for an odin flashable stock rom. Don't use cwm. Start back at kk4, flash a cwm kernel (corn or similar), then try cm9 again.

Hey guys i got new question for u, well now while im dealing with encryption problem i used the guide that yall mentioned and im having little problem (i hope its little) so heres the deal : whenever i try to pull or push file using adb i got device not found error. Im trying to push vold.flstab file that i somehow got out system/etc folder on my phone without using oull command since it wasnt working. I got it out and modified it but i cant push it back. How can i fix this error or how can i create a zip file to flash this file to my phone using cwm ???
Nevermind guys, figured out how to change that file (using root explorer) but now when i changed i was supposed to restart phone (thats what guide said) but phone now stucks on boot screen. really dont know what to do -.-
My friend says to me all the time... "your doing it wrong" and "just stop hacking your phone and u won't have that problem"
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yeea, I figured out that way now when my phone is totally busted, im gonna get new one (Captivate again) and not gonna mess a lot with it as I did with this one.
Really you shouldn't have to worry about completely messing up(but don't hold me to it) I thought I was done a couple times, but even when my captivate was soft bricked and my computer wouldn't recognize it, a USB jig pops it into download mode that we all know and love ... and from there you can flash back to whatever you like.
By the way...when is the last backup you have made? If it was right before you flashed, just go into download mode, flash to whatever you were on, restore your nandroid, then start over the right way(or choose not to flash that again)

Hello community. Long story short, I'm ONLY familiar with HTC. A customer came into my store with a bionic that was rooted, but SMS was messed up. I was on my way out for the day and a fellow rep showed me this guys bionic. I treated it like any other rooted device and rather than wasting time (I was in a hurry to leave) I just downloaded and flashed a theme. I could not figure out what rom he had, so i took a guess. I assumed if it didn't work, I could just boot into recovery and restore or just flash a different rom if need be... Well the phone hangs in its new bootanimation screen and it appears that CWR is gone. It just has the stock recovery. I have no other info about what software was on it or anything. Being an HTC person, Im just lost! Any help is more that appreciated! Thanks

Ugh. Well that's depressing. Why the heck would a theme ruin so much? Any other device I've worked on, if something doesn't work you can go back into recovery and restore. Why the hell did CWR disappear from a simple wrong theme? Makes no sense at all to me...
It starts with the red moto bootscreen then just hangs on the boot animation.

Waaaiiiiit a minute. You said CWR disappeared? If your on a bionic CWR doesn't just "appear" in the first place. Safestrap does tho. Everytime you boot up.. damn thang. Maybe you flashed a non-compatible theme.

What I did was flash a different theme onto the bionic. After that didn't work it hangs in the boot animation. What I do to get into recovery is hold both volumes and the power button at the same time. When the screen comes up I select recovery, and volume up and it goes into the normal stock recovery. Cwr is gone?

Does the phone come on? Meaning, can you get to the homescreen? If not.
Your Bricked.
That simple.
You Will Need to use Fastboot.
If Can Get to the Homescreen just install Bionic Bootstrap.
We are unable to write to the recovery partition on the bionic, so the only way into cwm is via bootstrap or safestrap.
That is why cwm seems to be gone.
All is good now. Just said F it and did adb/fastboot. Gosh I hate Motorola sometimes.
Thanks all!
