Tmous prepaid SIM wont work in Streak! - Dell Streak 7

Well I tried my $30/mo voice/data prepaid sim in my new streak and the web browser only brings be back to a my-tmobile page. (SMS does work)
Any way I can get this working?

Call TMobile and get your plan sorted out

Anyone have a suggestion that is actually helpful and not quite so gratuitous? Would be greatly appreciated! Not sure if this can be possible, but would like to be able to switch my sim from the HD2 to the Streak and back again as needed.

The fellow at the TMobile store said it needs to be a SIM card turned on as "Broadband", which appears to be true since the same thing happened to me when I put my postpaid SIM in from my cell phone. Ended up getting a $25/month prepaid broadband plan at the store until I find another way. I was able to get an unlock code from Dell, I'll try my wife's Straight-Talk (AT&T) unlimited SIM when I get a chance.

For me it was as easy as inserting my Simple Mobile $60 prepaid sim card from my phone into my dell streak while it was on (i did not shut off and reboot i just inserted while it was on and it said new sim found rebooting please wait). As soon as it rebooted 3G/4G work perfect FYI Simple Mobile uses T-mobiles Network I pay $60 for unlimited talk/txt and 2gb of data..no contract no BS,luv it..

Right, that's the most exasperating thing- I can use my StraightTalk unlimited SIM just fine. (AT&T network on that SIM) But it won't allow a TMobile SIM unless it's a "broadband" SIM. TMobile jumping through hoops to enforce silly rules...

FYI - Walmart's Family Talk SIM works fine in this, but the $30 sim does not. Of course, the family talk is priced higher and has lousy data. I believe they block tablets from the $30 plan, most likely via the IMEI.
I also assume the AT&T sim you're using isn't getting you 3G or 4G since it's a different radio.

Can I unlock an HTC Pure to bypass the $30/month data charge?

I just got an HTC Pure from AT&T but did not get a new SIM card or plan. I am planning to unlock the device to bypass the $30 per month charge for a data plan.
I currently am using an unlocked T-Mobile Dash (HTC S620) on AT&T's network.
I was wondering if there was any way to buy the $10 per month per phone data plan for myself, my brother, and my mom, then switch my SIM card to the unlocked Pure and have AT&T not recognize the new device.
OR
Could I simply switch the SIM card without unlocking and still get the $10 per month per phone data plan?
my friend if i can do so i would have done that long ago and gotten me a pure, but att and htc made plans that all 850 phones belongs to att. when u insert the sim into the phone no matter what the IMEI from the pure gets identified and the plan get switched over automatically.
only way to bypass that is by changing the IMEI of the phone, which is illegal and i dont know if it can be done
are you 100% sure? because I've gotten mixed answers between you, Yahoo Answers, and AT&T themselves
ATT said no??, yahoo said??? i say no
i know some ppl have gotten away with it by upgrading to a pure and stayed with the $10 data plan.
so if u would like to risk it go ahead
Actually the guy at AT&T said it may work. Yahoo said it did. I'm confused. What's the risk if I do get the data plan? Can I switch back to my old phone and get it taken off?
the risk i am talking about the automatic data plan activation, i have asked almost every ATT in miami if there is a way to get around it i have gotten the same answer NO
hmm, ok.
thanks for your help, I'm gonna go into an ATT store tomorrow to see if they can do anything. but I know what answer to expect now
They do not change your plan automatically.
I have had a HTC TILT, HTC FUZE, and am now with my HTC PURE.
I have the ATT data plan for 9.99 unlimited.
All I did was switch my sim to any ATT non PDA phone. Call att, have them add this feature. Then just slap on my sim on my HTC device.
That simple, have been doing it for years and even to my most recent bill I still have the 9.99 Media net plan.

Yes. They do. I have experienced this with the iphone. I put my sim into an iphone and my plan changed to iphone data plan. I had to call ATT, tell them that I was just checking it out, and got it changed back.

I had a LG-VU with the $9.99 data plan.
I upgraded to the HTC Pure. When the box arrived, the first thing I did was to open the phone and remove the new sim that they had inserted into the phone. I put my old sim from the LG-VU and fired up the phone.
It is 3 months now and my data plan is still $9.99.
I been having the $9.99 plan since july and I have the HTC pure. My plan is 4 years old though and I started with a razr.
If you have an ooooold plan that you got through an offer or whatever.....then you are ok....new plans from about three years and before....you want to theter (without the 60 dollar plan) get ready for a 2k plus bill. Been there years ago. Not worth it
after 6 months with the phone, you can cancel data and even have them put a data block
or so i've been told, but unlocking wont allow you to remove it, you're breaking the contract that got you the phone for cheap (or free in my case)
can some1 explain to me wtf this is all about?
If i have a, let's say a Tmobile contract (or any other, AT&T, Vodafone, etc) and i am using "x" phone with this contract....and i buy a new phone, which is different, then why am i not allowed to just change phones? coz that seems to be your guys problem, correct?
are u stuck on one phone for your whole contract? and if u change to, say a better phone, they up your contract price?!?!?!?!? that's HARD to swallow over here in europe... but is that the case?
I have spent countless hours of research here and at howard forums. They will auto switch your plan if you have a Nexus one or a ATT branded smartphone. You would have to get a T-Mobile branded smartphone butt you will loose 3G or get a unbranded smartphone imported which will cost you a lot of mulah. I was looking at getting at HD2 form Australia so I can get the 850 band (3G) but that was selling for 600-800 bucks.
Good luck with your quest young one.
try this... keep an old basic phone lying around and IF they ever DO switch it, call AT&T (USING THE OLDER PHONE!!!) and tell them you borrowed a friends phone for a few weeks while yours was broken and to verify that you are no longer using a "smartphone" and to drop it back down to $10/mo. They should only do random sweeps and this might happen once every few months... Works for me!!
i tried doing the switch back to a non smart phone technique, yet everyday i would get a text saying att has upped my plan to a smart phone one, so now im out 20 bucks , same with iphone, although you could unlock it to get a 10 dollar plan
I guess I'm lucky then. When I called to get internet for my At&t 8525 (about 3 years ago) I asked for an unlimited plan. The representative added a $15 plan. Since then, I've upgraded to a Tilt and now I'm on a HTC Pure with the same plan.
Even with an unlocked iPhone they are still able to add the $30 plan, that is exactly what they did to me. It has to do with the ATT sim card not the phone itself.

Update:
ATT has now automatically switched me to the $30 data plan, for my convenience (ha!).
I took out the SIM and put it in another "feature" phone and I was given the option to use the $9.99 plan.
I selected that and switched the SIM back to the ATT Pure.
Guess what?
For my "convenience", ATT switched me back to the $30 data plan.

[Q] Nexus One & prepaid data plan for U.S.

Hello,
i'm going to U.S. for holidays and i'd like to have a prepaid sim for my nexus for the month i will stay there.
Reading here and there i found that my europen nexus probably won't work on 3g AT&T, right?
So the only option i found is T-Mobile, that seems to have a prepaid sim card on which i can activate the data option, altough on their site i read "Already have a T-Mobile Prepaid phone that you need to activate?" i think it will work on my nexus too, or am i wrong?
Any help will be appreciated
Your european one i think could be either. Both the AT&T and T-Mobile ones (here) work on 2100Mhz for Europe so no way to tell. I think however that yours would be the T-mobile version since those were released first.
Anyways, there is Simple Mobile and other prepaid carriers that you just pop your SIM card into the phone and you are good to go. TMobile has $70 Unlimited talk/text (2GB data) and Simple Mobile has $60 Unlimited everything.
Simple Mobile uses T-Mobile's network still so same coverage as T-Mobile.
If it can help mine is an amoled one... so sure of the first released.
Maybe i can ask in the shop if they make me try a sim card to see if it works...
Simple Mobile, ok i've found that online and saw the prices, really good, hope to find a shop somewhere in NY where i land on the first day.
Thanks!
They don't really have Simple Mobile stores but you should be able to get a SIM from those little shops they have in NY. Just check online for the locator for somewhere to buy the SIM as lots of places sell the reloads but not the SIM.
Thanks for the tips, i'll look for the sim in the shops, will find one with the sim cards too
Just go with T-Mobile itself. They have a prepaid data day pass, $1.50/day.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I didn't see that option, thanks, just seen on their site, it's interesting.
Just hope that my nexus will work... in the specs i see UMTS 900/2100, so it should be T-Mobile frequencies
Maybe this can help someone in the future...
My Nexus work fine with T-Mobile, i made the daily plan 1.49$ a day for unlimited data.
Works like a charm in NYC, i'm having some problem in the south of USA now, but in the big cities it work well.
Thanks for the tips!
I have been using a N1 on T-Mobile on the $30/month for 1500 minutes/texts and 30MB of data. With Google Maps I soon burnt up the data and have purchased $1.45/day for unlimited data as I have needed it.
The phone works fine on TM - can't say that TM's network is that good though (this is in the San Francisco Bay Area) with regular dropped calls and data falling back to Edge quite often.

[Q] International version for DATA in SoCal (ATT GoPhone or others)

Hello,
I recently purchased an unlocked international version GNote GT-N7000.
I went to the ATT local store and told them that I wanted to buy a gophone simcard. They asked me if I had a phone with me, I said no and the simcard is for my friend so I don't know which phone my friend's gonna use.
I got $50 unlimited call, text, data plan, and the rep activated the simcard for me.
After that, I put the simcard into my GNote.
Calls and texts work fine.
I've tried every APN settings on "[GUIDE] Getting your unlocked Note fully functional on AT&T (including MMS)" this thread.
Even the last one that should work for GoPhone plan doesn't work for me.
The Network Mode is set to "GSM/WCDMA".
When I choose "GSM only", some APN settings (about cingular one) worked for a moment with really slow speed (EDGE speed) and went back to not working.
If I left the mode to "GSM/WCDMA", I see 3G, H, H+, these signs and arrows going up and down, and mobile network shows it's connected, but if I open browser or market, none of them works (network error).
What did I do wrong? I can't find any answer from the above thread that I mentioned.
Can you reply your APN settings that work for your GoPhone plan here?
What if I change to different prepaid company, which one works best in SoCal like reception, data speed, and etc?
Anyone use Simple Mobile? cuz I know thay have $40 unlimited everything plan include 3G internet.
Thank you!!
Sorry, but I've never tried making use of GoPhone, so I can't offer assistance there.
Two issues with Simple Mobile.
Their $40 3G plan throttles data to just barely above 2G speeds.
Simple Mobile runs off of the T-Mobile network, which uses 3G/4G (UMTS/HSPA+) frequencies the International Note is currently incapable of using.
Long story short, International Note would be limited to Edge speeds on Simple Mobile. If you want a cheap unlimited plan, go to Straight Talk. If you can manage staying under 100MB of data a day, their $45 Unlimited plan would probably be the way to go. If you prefer 2GB of data per month that you're free to use any way you like, Jolt Mobile offers such a plan for $60/month.
I use Straight Talk on my International Note and the settings in the "How to use your International Note on Straight Talk" settings work for me off the bat: voice, data, sms, and mms. It's $45/month and it runs on AT&T's network. Maybe you could try the APN settings for Straight Talk on your GoPhone plan and see if it works.
If you want to try Straight Talk, you can order a SIM from their website for $15.
at t knows that your using a smartphone.so you need to add a data package to your go phone Sim account
I had the same trouble. The unlimited data us only for their approved phones. And iPhones you cannot even add a data package to their go phone accounts. Att is pure evil

So, Straight Talk uses ATT's network? Then I maybe go for Straigh Talk.. I was worried about the coverage because in the website, the map doesn't clearly show the coverage.

I don't understand then why they would call the $50 plan as unlimited call, text and data if they are gonna charge extra $$ for smartphone data.
hmmmmm 250 minutes for $25 plan sound little short for me.
maybe I should go for Straight Talk then.
if you do decide to go with Straight Talk, when ordering a sim card from their site, make sure to order the AT&T compatible sim, and you will be set. I just got my N7000 Note Friday and hooked it up with Straight Talk no problem. Speeds are very decent. Good luck.
How's us the data speed for straight talk
Does it work for international unlocked iPhones too

Nexus 7 3G: Confirmed working with Straight Talk

After seeing the thread about the TMo prepaid plan not compatible with the N7 + 3G I became worried but my N7 and Straight Talk sim(AT&T) arrived today and I can confirm that data functionality is working. I couldn't find any one else on the internet that could actually confirm this so decided to make an informative thread.
As an aside, has anyone else had problems with ST on their N7, TMo or AT&T?

I believe I've read other successful reports of using AT&T ST with their N73G.
However, all the reports so far (which is like 2-3) have been with the AT&T version. I'm curious if the T-Mobile one works too. Since they seem to actively block tablet IMEIs from voice plans, there is a strong possibility it won't.
Have you gotten SMS working on ST?
Mvno have different APN and are never blocked. Solavei works. It does use T-Mobile.
It sounds like you're confirming data, but what about voice calls (not VoIP)?

It's disabled in the ROM and devs haven't figured out how to get it working. So there's no way to actually confirm voice calls working on a SIM.
UK T-Mobile Sim working fine in my nexus here. I can browse the internet and send text messages.
AT&T SIM with Apple data plans working
I took an AT&T SIM out of an iPhone with the iPhone unlimited data plan and put it into my N7 3G and it is working. I had to create a new APN with the proper settings for it to work. The Broadband APN is for SIMs provisioned with an LTE data plan. I had to setup the old wap.cingular APN.

So you can send and receive SMS but not MMS? I would guess that it's an APN issue. Even people with ST for phones have had issues. It seems to work better if your split data and MMS into two different APNs. Also, don't use a proxy.
I never used GoPro so can comment on it. But this app should work:

I bet the Tmobile issue using a phone sim can be resolved by backing up the the IMEI and corrupting it. Same method used on the original Galaxy Tab to use a phone sim.
As a recent owner of an OG G-Tab I hope for the same thing. However the difference between our Nexus 7 and the OG G-Tab is the presence of the system/efs folder, which one could erase and thereby change the IMEI (apparently after erasing it the IMEI would repopulate and the G-Tab would be recognized as a generic GSM device on whatever network you were on.) The Nexus 7 doesn't have an equivalent folder. From what I've read the efs was unique to Samsung devices.

Hi. Would you mind telling me which T-Mobile UK SIM/Deal you have that works with your N7?
I picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago. It works fine in a MiFi but the N7 just keeps saying that the SIM is being removed and than inserted. Another SIM I've tried seems to work.
I'm using the 4.2.1 update.

Working fine on my N7 3G with a standard T-Mobile PAYG Voice sim (Ordered from T-Mobile Website), Activated it in an iphone to get the free 12 months web then transferred to the N7 3G and works fine, no odd messages like you are getting. Have 3 N7 3Gs at the moment in the family 1 on T-Mobile with the free 12 month web deal. 1 on Virgin with the free 12 month web deal. and one currently on giffgaff that will go on T-Mobile next month (Already have a T-Mobile sim for that one and it works OKas well)
Problem you are having is strange, have you tried other network sims in your N7 to rule out a hardware problem.?

Yep, I've tried a gash GiffGaff SIM I ordered but never used and it seems to work OK. It certainly shows a stable connection to the 3G network but I'm unable to test data because it's not activated.
The one thing I have just noticed is that the TM SIM is noticably thicker than other SIMs, I'm wondering if that is pushing the contacts in the device to a position in which they don't work or touch something they shouldn't. I'll have a look later and see if I can get the SIM in (and, more importantly, out) without the carrier and see if that works.
Could you please direct me to the Virgin deal you have, if all fails I'll try one of those. I would prefer to use the TM SIM in the Nexus but I have a use for it elsewhere if I can't.
Thanks for your reply.

The Virgin one, you have to buy as phone for £30, with the phone you get a sim card with £10 credit and a voucher for 12 Months free internet (1Gb a month) (Its a scratchcard you text the number from the card and it activates straight away so not tied to any type of phone etc). You can of course sell the phone on so that reduces the initial £30 outlay!.
Here is a link to the thread, and there is a link to the deal in there (Although it saves postage if you have a local Virgin store you can pick one up from)

I bought an iphone microsim from here http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/free-text-sim-cards/
I intended putting it in an iPhone 4S I have access to, but that was locked to vodaphone, so I couldn't. I then put £20 on the Sim and purchased a 6 month internet booster (http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/price-plans/pay-as-you-go/boosters/) That said, the sim worked from the moment I put it in (i.e. before I bought the booster).
I think it was Flashyphotos that detailed how to do it all earlier in this thread.

And yes, the virgin deal doesnt sound too bad at all... better than what I ended up with, but my N7 is working fine away from home on 3g and can text and that will do for now.
I need to figure out a way of making calls on it "just in case", but I'll get there.

I like the T-Mobile deal better than the Virgin one to be honest, the Virgin one has a 1Gb per month hard cap, where the T-Mobile one has a Softcap for Streaming/Torrents at 500Mb (Continues to work after 500Mb but at a throttled rate, and browsing etc is totally unlimited.
So no chance of running into a cap part way through the month like on the virgin one. I think the £20 for 6 months is a really good deal if you cant get the iphone deal or after that runs out, and will be happy to keep paying £20 every 6 months on mine for as long as I can,

Another quick question if I may; was this a microSIM or a normal SIM you cut down? The TM SIM I have is a CombiSIM, the other SIMs I've tried that work are SIMs that have been cut down. The TM SIM I'm having problems with has smaller contact lands than the 'normal' SIMs. I'm wondering if it's lining up with the contacts in the Nexus. Cheers - Y

T-Mobile $30 monthly 4g Howto plus NET10 comparison

1. Go into a TMobile store and buy the SIM prepaid activation kit They are not supposed to sell these without selling you a plan at the same time but my local mgr offered. Beg for one or order one online. If you are super desperate, buy a prepaid TMo phone and use the activation #, SIM # and the NEXUS 4 IMEI. Sell the $29 crap phone on craigslist. Cut the SIM or go into TMobile and get a new microsim for free. You could return the crap phone since they only deactivate the IMEI but thats unethical and you still need a new microsim as they must have the SIM to return the phone.
2. Activate your SIM with the $30/mo 100 minute 5GB data. You can use TMobile refill cards or credit
3. Check APN settings and enjoy
I also have a Net10 (ATT) $50/month plan w/ unlimited everything (no official details on data cap, cust service said there wasn't info or a cap).
Speed tests are around 5mbs for both providers. T-Mobile should be faster depending on the area due to network. I've seen up to 10mbs for T-Mobile. For t-mo voice use GrooveIP/Google Voice.
As for me, I'm getting a second TMo prepaid kit and paying $60 for two lines; one for Nexus 4 and one for ATT AWS modded Note 2.
Enjoy!

Net10 and Straight Talk are essentially the same company. If you call N10 support ST will answer. Figure that you will be throttled at 2GB after your first month. When you do get throttled, don't waste your time calling customer support, 45 minutes and they still don't unthrottle you. Post in the NET10 forums about slow data and you will get a response from an employee to PM them your imei and they will unthrottle you, usually in less then 10 minutes after you PM them during business hours.
Also for the TMobile sims without a contract try the prepaid webpage. You can use these for the $30/month plan.

Good on the store manager. I wasnt that lucky. Finally ordered it online.
Grr, t-mobile EDGE only in my hicktown, very fast in the state capitol. It's so cheap I think I'll keep Net10 in the Nexus4 and Tmo in the Note 2.

I was so incredibly frustrated on failing to get a SIM locally that I explored other options. My first success was buying a prepaid phone and cutting the sim, second was the T-Mobile store whom informed me that he would sell the SIM solo which is not common.
