Try installing divers for your phone again. See that after you connect it to PC you have NO "unknown usb devices".

I found AndroidScream V1 by Qeemi to be the best ROM for my needs, and i flashed it using CWM. However You can try different ROMs and decide for yourself which works best for you. btw almost all of the custom ROMs need CWM to be flashed
For me the best rom is MindCr Rom, you can search it in google because i cant post links. The post is in htcmania spanish forum, but isnt difficult to understand.

like I have said in another thread if would be good to confirm what the differences between the 30i and 39i are but know one seems too know what they are..
as to flashing roms I can confirm the rooting method works fine without any errors...

yep funny one..
google doesn't always have the answers!!!
I am an advocate of searching google that's how we found the rooting method for the 5839i..one final point google comes up with nothing what so ever... s5830 and s5830i but not s5830i and s5839i... hence would seem NO one knows.... now that would have been the best answer lol

I too have been trying to find out what the differences are between the two devices. I'm reading differing reports of S5380i ROMs working and not working with the S5389i and can ind no-one who can give an answer, as you stated, Google has been no help in the matter as there is still no response of you search for difference S5830i S5839i. I always seem to get the same sort of unhelpful responses as above. I've even found an unbrick method that uses a Galaxy Y baseband. I'm still digging though as would like to understand before I attempt to root and flash a friends phone.
tried AndroidScream v1 and MindCr v2.3
both are good

Do not flash anything from S5830 or you will brick your device.
S5830 and S5839i aren't the same.Your S5839i is the same as S5830 with "i".
Use CMW 5 for S5830 with "i"

Hi guys.
Been a while since i posted but here is the situation:
My friend has a s5830 and its still on froyo! 2.2.1. Completely stock (not even rooted). She asked me to help as when plugged into kies it says:-
"devices firmware not supported to update via kies"
its shows firmware version kb7 kb1 kb6 (h3G)
Now i know i can flash using odin (know my way around an ace like the back of my hand) but she doesnt want me to do that. All im trying to find out is why Kies says this?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Is it an open sim galaxy ace because I had the same problem with it
don't blame me it wrote itself

If you mean sim unlocked then yes. She just tried another carrier sim card and it worked.
how did you resolve this?
There isn't a way to solve that issue as far as I no, the open sim mobiles get updated last or rarely updated so I had to update manually through Odin

Beven using it since it same out so bit bored of it to be honest. But your right its more stable / functional.
There's a new apocalypse rom due to come out with in the next couple of days its already been tested and sounds good so far I'm going to flash it as soon as its out

Screw stock roms. Flash CM 7.2 stable (download from CyanogenMod official site) and you will have GB 2.3.7 with tons of options and features. Everything works in that rom and after flash is fully working, no need to do anything. Better than this? Hope you find a solution. Bye

Thanks for your reply, I know CM is great, I use it on my ace and note. The point of this thread was to find the reason why a friend ace cannot be updated by using Kies......

GO HERE :good:
you can run linux from vm or as a live cd or live usb (it means you dont have to install it you can run it directly ), you can install linux besides windows (you will have two os in your pc ) , i already saw compiling using cygwin also so just goooooooogle , oh btw you need a 4gb of ram computer to compile from source as less can take very long , some android versions require a 64 bits cpu also (ics and gb dont)
, i advice you to learn to compile from source as copying other roms already compiled and editing some things is not development nor a real port . but you can begin from there.

Try starting with basic, non-heavily modified ROM. Also, CM10.1 is the best stable "latest" ROM for us here so yeap. You can try building. Just suggesting
