[Q] Note doesn't start after ICS-Update - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I just updated my Note from GB 2.3.6 CheckROM with SpeedMod 2.8 to ICS 4.0.3 with CF 5.6 with Mobile Odin Pro...
I didnt checked Wipe Data, only Dalvik Cache..
So after the update my Note doesnt boot properly, after hearing the starting sound nothings happens...
My question is now... can I Wipe Data in CWM (CWM works completely).. or whats about the bricking with CF-Root and Fullwipe etc...
Thanks

Try wipe cache and dalvik cache.

Nothing new happens...
I still havent any boot animation (since months after I installed LiveLogcat etc..)
I always see Galaxy Note logo etc., then I hear the starting sound only...then screen is still black
Edit:
I flashed AbyssNote kernel 4.2 Final RedPill Touch Original Logo...
What now to FullWipe?
Wipe Data, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik?
Or what now...?

I tried Wipe Data with Abyss 4.2 now... still doesnt boot...
Do I need ICS kernel again? Or should it also work with Abyss 4.2?
Can I restore a gingerbread backup without any problems... if... how to restore correctly?

The Nand back will include kernel as well. You can just go in CWM and go to backup and restore and choose restore and choose the restore package from CWM folder in your sdcard. (CWM should point you there automatically).
After restore things should work otherwise there maybe other problems somewhere that need further investigation. cheers.

- flash AbyssKernel 4.2
- REBOOT RECOVERY
- FULL WIPE
- flash any GB or ICS custome rom
- reboot

I restored my gb backup.... it works now as before...
So yesterday I wanted update to ICS....
Dunno what I did wrong...
Mobile Odin Pro with ICS 4.0.3 Rom and CF 5.6 Kernel with Wipe Data and Wipe Dalvik...
This should work?!

[Q] HELP.. revert from ics back to gingerbread rom..??

Hi guys hope someone can help..
I have been on ics for few months & loving it..
Few days ago I updated my brother-in-law sgs i9000 from Darkys rom xxjw1 > updated to Dark knight rom ics 4.0.4 ...
"he wants to go back to any gingerbread rom stock or custom"..!!
Firstly I made no backup & worst of all I cannot find anything Google search (no guides tutorials info) etc
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP OR DIRECT ME..
It's it a straight simple flash of a GB ROM with full wipe.. Or is it bit more complex from what I have been told..!!
What, google is dead
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvu/
I thought (read from different forums) that it was a difficult procedure..
Okay can you check steps..
1 Nandroid backup current rom
2 backup apps data settings etc
FULL WIPE
3 factory reset
4 wipe cache
5 wipe dalvik cache
6 format system
7 format cache
8 format data
(I'm unsure about the others like boot, datadata, sd, emmc)
Odin flash stock xxjvu
root firmware flash kernel
Fix permissions
Reboot
Hopefully back on gingerbread
"please do correct me & appreciate any help"
Download stock then flash with odin
For me i back to ics
1.Full wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik for ICS first then go to download mode.
2.Open odin tool.
3.Then flash stock 2.3.3 XWJW5
4.Done.
1. Make backup, if need. Format and cache wipping not requaired, Odin delete old partitions and create neew, if ‘Re-Partition’ checkbox is checked
2. flash GB rom with Odin
3. root, if need
Thanks all that replied & helped..
@Janka63
Have you flashed GB ROM coming from an ICS ROM.. Did Odin flash work okay..??
I've done it with wipe cache and dalvik,
format sd, system, data and dbdata.
Than flashed with Odin a Stock JW1.
I did several times since the 1st time I tried to port ICS in my phone, (the last time was before yesterday), when I was unable to enter recovery and the mobile when looping, I grabbed Odin, flashed it directly (no wipe, anything, but I bet my phone's life for it), rooted it back. Now I'm back for ICS.
wiping is unnecessary for odin roms.
Knowledge is Power. Guard it well.

Thanks.. But can you explain why wiping is unnecessary with Odin (as I believe a wipe will not be done using Odin)..
I have always been advised to do wipe when flashing/switching roms whether it's using Odin, cwm recovery, Heimdall etc etc

[Q][Resolved] Unable to do something using CWM and unable to write on /system

Hi I'm unable to make a backup using the CWM, stuck while backing up "bb"
Code:
CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.7
SD Card space 12492MB
backing up boot image...
backing up system...
bb
the backup process is stuck on bb (i've wait more than one hour)
I've also test on cwm 5.5
I'm using the franco kernel and the same problem on the r4 and r5
my flash hystory:
Stock GB -> Stock GB (newer) with root -> stock LPY (using Mobil odin for flash with chainfire kernel) (3 hours after, read warning about brick) -> stock GB using odin PC -> factory reset under GB -> (waiting a long time...) -> install cwm -> flash Criskelo's ICS V5.1 and without reboot flash franco kernel r5 -> trying to make a backucp (stuck on bb) -> wipe /data, /cache, /davil cache then trying to make a backup (still stuck on bb) -> try to flash Cassie's XtraLiteRom ICS Version 2.9 LQ2 stuck at the begenning -> flash franko kernel r4 and try to make a backup and still stuck on bb
I've made only one factory reset under android's ui and it was on GB, juste after roll back from LPY, and I've made only one full wipe under ICS (franko kernel r5 (Removed MMC_CAP_ERASE and chainfire's fix in cwm 5.5) so it might to be safe ?
How can I check if I've a damaged emmc chip ?
why i've these problems ?
Thanks
EDIT:
FIXED: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27169589&postcount=20
Up, nobody have an idea for solve my problem ??
You can use "gotbrickbug" in themes/apps by chainfire to see if you have dangerous firmware but there's no way to know if your emmc chip is damaged already unless its bricked.

I've tested the app yesterday and i've the brickbug (0x19 driver) but I havn't made any wipe on no-safe ics and I spend only 3 little hours on the stock LPY
Hi WormsCH,
You wrote stock LPY (using Mobil odin for flash with chainfire kernel) (3 hours after, read warning about brick) what version of CF-Root did you use then ? Did you perform wipe data/factory reset with it ?
Unfortunately it sounds like superbrick.

He didn't do a data wipe on any of the bad kernels, he said he used franco. Sounds like a corrupted file or something.
Get into download mode and Odin back to gingerbread.

I've used the first CF-Root for LPY released by chainfire.
I havn't made any wipe or factory reset under LPY.
just spent 3 hours (internet browsing, drawing, take some pictures) and after I'had read the brick bug, I've used odin PC for flash official GB and perform a factory reset under GB

I get back on GB using Odin, then install CWM (I can perform a backup with the cwm under GB).
Then flash Criskelo's ICS V5.1 -> advanced -> reboot recovery
-> wipe cache/data => stuck while wiping...
get back under GB (Odin)-> install CWM -> flash franko kernel -> advanced, reboot recovery -> flash a rom => stuck at the begining...
it appear than each action on cache/data under ICS got stuck
I get back to GB LC1 stock frimware with PIT file, then flashed the pre rooted LC1, then install cwm for LC1.
-> wipe cache/data
-> install Criskelo's ICS V5.1 -> advanced -> reboot recovery
-> trying to make a backup and still stucked at the end of system backuping (bb)
how can I solv it ????
what it this problem ?
what can I try for solve my problem ?
Have I a dammaged chip ?

It is superbricked.
Flash stock kernel and send it to SSC. MoBo needs to be replaced.

how can I explain to Sammy than I've a problem with my note...
Under GB evrything seem to works correctly and under the CWM on a GB kernel i can backup, restor, flash etc....
under ICS i got stuck when backup, restor, or flash a rom (flash kernel and some fixes seem to works)
Ive the same issue on franco kernel r4 and r5
If you can be on GB, it's obviously not super bricked. I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner. Went to bed last night and forgot to get back on this morning and check it out. Let me read slowly back through everything and see what I can come up with. Go back to Gingerbread right now and root it and get CWM recovery.

Okay, you can't flash Franco kernel on GB so that would explain it not working I think.
Like I said last post, get on Gingerbread w/ root and CWM. Flash an ICS rom (I would suggest CM9 variation but that's just me). If you flash a Samsung ICS rom thats fine but don't wipe data. Wipe cache and dalvik. Flash Franco or Speedmod if on Sammie ICS rom. Let it boot up. If it doesn't boot, wipe data (only if on the safe kernel).
Edit:
Also, sounds like you having problems with the Franco kernel. Will you try Speedmod kernel?

I can flash franco kernel from a GB kernel, and I can boot to ICS and use my phone on ICS, evrything seem to works (not fully tested) but, when I'm on ICS kernel (the franco kernel) I can't flash other rom, or make a backup, or restor a backup or sometime wipe data and cache from CWM, just get stuck, need to remove battery or wait with power button hold down.
Once my phone reboot I'm still under ICS and my phone is still working
From CWM under ICS kernel, I can switch between franco kernel r4 and r5, but that's all.
the issue seem to be only on CWM with an ICS kernel. Maybe could I try to write something on /system for see if it's work ?
EDIT:
I'll test the SpeedMod kernel

Yeah, definitely not bricked then. So, have you TRIED another kernel, like Speedmod? Or just franco ones?
You might not have complete root. So yeah, open up root explorer (or something equivalent) and try to paste a file in /system (make sure you are on R/W). See if that works. If it does, you have root.
I'd say go back to Gingerbread and flash a CM9 rom this time and see if that works just so we can rule out something.
Sorry. It is not super brick.
Did you try different ICS kernels ?
See if you can finish backup with speedmod kernel.
Hi, sorry for long reply.
I've flashed SpeedMode Kernel, and when I tryed to make a backup, the backup stuck at the begin (camera_shoot.ogg)
I tryed to write something to /system, but I wasn't correctly root, so I installed SU-installer.zip from cwm then reboot, i was root, but unable to remount /system in rw mode, and unable to install superSU.
i've tested to write on /system under GB, and it's working.
Why can't I remount /system under ICS ??
EDIT:
on ICS the /system is on /dev/block/mmcblk0p7 and on GB the /system partition is on /dev/block/mmcblk0p9
could mmcblk0p7 be dammaged ??

FIXED !!
Finally get it worked !!
I'll describ all the steps for others who can have this issue.
Some steps are maybe useless, but after 4 days of test, flash, wipe, softbrick It's finally works.
-I've flashed with Odin PC: N7000XXKKA -- 2.3.6 201--November-- N7000OXXKK5 --Switzerland and I used the .pit file "Q1_20110914_16GB.pit"
-boot in default recovery for wipe data/cache
-full boot on GB then type *#272*IMEI# then change the CSC to AUT (was on KOR ) Auto reboot & wipe after apply
-After reboot, apply the OAT update N7000XXLA6--2.3.6--2012 January N7000OXXLA1--Switzerland (~75MB)
-Flash with pdin PC the AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo (this setp Add the warning triangl and incrase counter) after that step I was able to backup and write on /system
-Flash without wipe the KingDroid ICS NoteMania Edition v2.0 after that step I was still able to make a backup under the new CWM and write on /system under ICS
-Flash without wipe Criskelo's ICS V5 then without reboot, the 5.1 fix, then the 15 Scrolling Toggles SystemUI, then the franco r5, then reboot.
after that I was still able to backup and write on /system
-Boot in recovery -> wipe /data, /cache, /davil cache then restored my google account and all my apps.
now I'm able to write on /system and make a backup on CWM
I hop this will help other people
And Thanks for your help

abyss kernel question

i wanted to do data factory reset
im on paranoid android v0.5 having some probs with it
so i decided to hav a fresh install of th same rom with all 3 wipes
so vich version out of the 4 abyss kernel shd i use?
1)AbyssNote kernel 4.2 Final CW Touch Custom Logo
2)AbyssNote kernel 4.2 Final CW Touch Original Logo:
3)AbyssNote kernel 4.2 Final RedPill Touch Custom Logo:
4)AbyssNote kernel 4.2 Final RedPill Touch Original Logo:
People tend to use RedPill so you see the difference when you've rebooted into recovery therefore you know you're on a safe kernel....
I tended to use: AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo
Although now for uber safety (And paranoia) I tend to downgrade to GB and do all my wipes and FR's in there, Then approach things afresh...
No need to use abyss. Since cm9 is a safe kernel.
Sent from my GT - N7000 using XDA Premium
1) install paranoid v0.5
2) install gapps
3) wipe data factory reset
4) wipe cache partion
3) wipe dalvik cache
is this th way i can go? js asking to b sure
I too use: AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo, have not run into any issues.
I have run with issues . In the abyss recovery ext SD card doesn't show up. I was struck on the recovery luckily I had nandroid backup so I restored it . I don't know what would have happened if there was no ROM to flash and I finished all three wipes . It was awkward. Luckily I came out of the situation. But cm9 and speed mod is safe to make three wipes. But are they safe to flash cm10 ?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I hear that SpeedMod is a safe kernel to wipe on - Although as mentioned earlier I have not tried, despite running SpeedMod

Yes CM9 is safe to install CM10 but not Speed Mod
Question
Does have a difference between come back to 2.3.5 and then install rom or just make the wipes (data/cache/dalvik) in a safe kernel and install rom too?
Tks!

Help with Rocket Rom

Hi All, Need a little help here
I install Rocket rom and now all i get is a video of androids riding tron like bikes and it goes blank.
Did i do something wrong?
let us know the state of the phone before installing the rom ( rooted / rom version / kernel )
and the procedure you followed
I Had Installed [PhilZ-cwm6] v2.7N * Safe Stock Kernel+CWM6 following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
I downloaded RocketRom V. 2.3 and moved it to the ext SD card on the note, then i booted into recovery and installed from sd card.
it installed and restarted and been getting this issue since
reboot into recovery
do a wipe data / factory reset

reboot system now
check what happens

1. if RocketRom V. 2.3 is GINGERBREAD then fullwipe format factory in CMW solve the issue in my case.
2. if RocketRom V. 2.3 is ICS dont fullwipe will brick your phone.
-flash Speedmod 3-15 in CMW go to advance>reboot recovery. wait until recovery rebooted
-Fullwipe format factory... hope this help

as this is a custom rom, the dev will not make the mistake of making it on the stock kernel.. so it will always have a safe kernel and CWM
just do wipe data and cache if u r from ICS , if Gingerbread, u must use another method
all done, thanks for the help guys

INstalled PHILZ stock Kernel.. THen.. HELP!

Hellooo, I just installed Philz stock Kernel And Now i want to install Rom ANd Before installing it wipe data cache?
and Also Now i must install stock rom or can i install parandroid or such kinds?
or For parandroid its needed to flash siayh or dimiranx kernels?
If you have flashed PhilZ the device is rooted (you have rooted the phone by the PhilZ kernel method right? You'll notice a super user icon in your app drawer) and yes you can install ROMs like paranoid android. And yes before installing the ROM you have to wipe data and cache, which will delete all your data like contacts, apps, etc. So better take a nandroid backup or a backup using Titanium backup and then wipe data, cache and flash the ROM. And by the way siyah and dorimanx kernels are not available for the N7000. So DO NOT flash any such custom kernels which are not meant for the N7000, that can ruin the device. Hit thanks if i helped.
Before installing Paranoid Android, do the following wipes:
Data Wipe/Factory reset
Wipe cache
Mounts and storage => Wipe /system and wipe /preload
Advanced wipe dalvik cache
This will nearly guarantee you a safe and working install.
Dude I swear I have read all your recent threads and posts.
If you don't read the forum stickies your going to kill your device. Talking about siyah kernel are you kidding?
READ THE STICKIES and then post if you don't understand. Or your phone may become a brick.
