[Q] mmcblk0 afterfix - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
After having problems with the internal memory of the "SGS", follow the only tutorial that worked for my case (since the phone is out of warranty), I created two partitions on the external SD card and the phone will recognize them as internal partitions NAND, the phone works and everything, but no disk space, thus making it impossible to use various programs and use the camera among other things.
I wonder if there is a way of SGS recognize a possible third partition of the SD as usable space.
Perhaps swapping the mount-points? Anyone have ideas?

SOLVED! Close / Delete please! Ty

Post the answer so someone with a similar issue has the solution.

Internal memory is "locked"

Dear guys,
I have a very strange problem with my tab. The internal memory seems to be “read only” after restart.
Ai have this problem after I stopped a transfer between my laptop and the tab (a movie). The problem is that o can’t format internal memory, to fix any fat leaks. I try to wipe all, flash with every know firmware from h__p://w w w.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-p1000.htm, format internal memory from CWM. Every format command works (finish format ok),
I can used the space on tab (even accessing from laptop) but when I restart my tablet I have the old content.
My question is what the f__k is happened and who to fix it.
Many thanks in advance!
Any one??!?!?!
Any one??!?!?!
I can't help with the solution but fwiw I have exactly the same problem. Samsung's only suggestion was to send it in for repair but I'm hesitant to do that because all my data is still on the device. I've tried hard resetting it but everything comes back as soon as I reboot. I can remove or install application but they reset as soon as I reboot the Tab. I cannot make any kind of permanent changes to it.
It's very frustrating to say the least. Anyone have any suggestions for what would cause this? Mine is still a stock device with only a few market applications.
I also have some issues with internal "SDCARD" and that is that i cannot move anything onto it using andy SGT filemanagement system or the very bad KIES software. At the moment my external SD is full but the internal SD has like 14GB free and i cannot balance the storage!?!
If I move programs to SD will it me moved to internal or external SD and can I choose the setting?
The only way I managemd to move stuff into internal SD is to download files like films and music via DLNA over WiFi - those files are saved correctly were I want it...
any advise would be appreciated...
So this means that i can't repair my tablet?
I can't find any solution for this problem. and i believe that we are not the only one with this problem.
I send it to service... they replaced main board...
but canceled my warranty reason: unauthorized software intervention - root access
So... watch out for this. factory reset you tablet or mobile (if possible... in my case was not possible)
Thank you for your support.
I have the same
I have the same exact problem ,, anyone can help plz ??
Hi:
I´ve just discovered this forum. Hello...
Just the same problem here and Samsung doesn´t repair my device. Can you give me any help?
Regards
This is exactly the same problem I've encountered. Moments AFTER rooting the thing.
Which leads me to believe any and all warranty question is well out of the window.
Has anyone encountered a solution as yet?
I appreciate the posts above are a few months old so I'm hoping some sort of resolution has been found!
Same problem here too
Internal mem seems fine and you can delete things, but after reboot nothing is remembered.
Gave it to service (non samsung/carrier), They said that the p1000 is known for having bad internal memory problems.
They partitioned my 8GB external sd card and installed a Chinese MIUI rom 4.0.4 that is supposed to support installation and running from external SD mem.
The problem is they didn't remove the internal memory - so all old apps still exist there and can' t be removed (it probably mounts the internal mem and thinks it can write to it - but in practice nothing is written). So when i go to market and try to DL an app it says no memory left on device because it tries to put it on the internal mem and not the external.
Also, after reboot all the account setup wizard screen settings are forgotten and you need to redefine everything again.
I saw a thread on XDA that explains you need to remove the internal SD mem physically (and explains how to do it) but i am a little afraid to do it...
Anyone else try this ?
Also strange you need to change the whole MB for a faulty memory, why can't the internal mem just be replaced ?

[Q] Convert SDCard to MainMem so External_SD becomes SDCard?

Hi there,
Is there a way to make the add the internal SD card to the main memmory? So that there would not be an internal SD card anymore?
I do not mean swapping the moutpoints around so my External_SD becomes my primary and my internal my second....
I want to get rid of the internal one alltogether (adding it to main memory).
I figure that I'll have to format the storage in a certain way... would that do it?
Can someone tell me step by step what to do?
I do have CW-mod installed.
I did search the forum, but couldnt find anything conclusive. Just hints that it should be possible...
If there already is a thread where all this is explained, please point me to it, because I couldn't find it.
Thanks,
Pfeffa-rah
I don't think this is possible , never heard of someone who did it
I have no idea how to do that. My question is... why would you want to do that?
Having an internal_sd partition adds the benefit of having big app data (such as those in Gameloft games) sit in a very fast partition and still be called "sddata".
Also, it's mountable via PC so everything in there can still be backed up. So it's best of both worlds really.
This was discussed some time ago in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013575
There were ideas on how to remount the cards at boot. I myself come to the conclusion that since more phones start to behave in this way, app developers will have to start dealing with it. It just sucks they are mostly slow on the uptake. My main problem was the Spotify cache location being hard coded so I resorted to hack the Spotify apk.
PS. salisbury_steak: What is it with people like you that every time someone has a question on how to do something, your immediate response is "But why would you want to do that?!".

That was actually an honest question.
I wanted to understand why he wanted to do it. (i.e. What would be the advantages of it.) There was no supposed sarcasm in there.
how about the ability to install 5x more applications?
Having that stupid 5gb partition as sd card and the real sd card as a sub folder is retarded...
My 32GB class 10 cars is a lot faster than the internal one.
The internal 5gb memory is MUCH TOO SMALL!!! Most apps don't allow you to store data on the external card. If you like me and many others install some games that download aditional data + a nav app that downloads maps for europe + some streaming music app like wimp that can cache music for offline play then you are ****ed with LG's setup.
The setup CM7 uses solves the main problem but effectively wastes the 5gb by mounting it at emmc where like 0,0001% of apps are able to access it.
So adding those otherwise wasted 5gb to the main memory would be great. But i have not seen any solution to that yet :-(
Thank you Gensplejs for explaining that to them. I had no idea how to reply to that since it seemed so obvious to me.
This thread was ment to be a question about how to do it and not to discuss the usefullness of it. That is where I lost the way in other threads...
So, thanks for your replys all (realy).
But now, back On-Topic:
How would I do it?
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA Premium App
Please don't blame me if you tried it and you screwed up your phone.. It's your choice...
Well, I don't know if this would work, but this is how I would do it (accepting the fact that I'd loose almost 2GB of /data's free space):
1. Format your internal sd card to the same file system as your /data partition is (ext3 or ext4)
2. Copy every file from /data 1:1 to your sdcard (cp -R /data/* /sdcard)
3. I don't know when and where the partitions are mounted (maybe init.rc??)...anyways change the target there and let /data point to the internal sd card partition (so it is ensured that it is mounted automatically to the new location)
4. Reboot and keep your fingers crossed
I think i figured how to do it in theory. First we need some free space at our microsd to cp /data. Then we should repartition with fdisk /dev/block/mmcblk0p8 and p9 into one partition and change vold.fstab to mount only externalsd at /sdcard as we do when we swap partitions. In theory it should work but i cant test it right now or make a script since ve gone vacations and i dont have a pc to restore in case of error
I agree.. certain apps wont store to sdcard.. its better to use the whole 8gb as phone storage, and use external sdcard as default sdcard.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
What ive found till now is that sd swapping is easy. You can do it by tweaking only vold.fstab. But repatriationing is a pain in the ass. Looks like lg has "faulty" partitions or something and to do it you must mesh up with with almost half partitions.
I had to rebuilt boot lgdrm recovery data and sdcard to make em half work. So it probably isnt worth the trouble. Also I think init.rc is built on the boot. So just remounting internal sd to /data wont work either.
sectors is not space
it says 7996, so thats 8GB
i saw it in hurry. the brain sometimes belives whats he want to belive
sorry
New to XDA
Hello everybody,
I'm new to android and i'm trying to find out how to solve the problem posted in this thread.
I see you've got the awnser but i don't know how to do this.
I've been searching google and XDA for ever but i just can't find the awnser.
Could you make a step by step howto or point out to a post how to do this.
I mean converting your external sd to ext4 and change the mounting points.
I'm a complete nood, i didn't get adb to work on my pc, ext4 recovery is not for the p990 2x.
I've read something abbout changing fstap for swapping te mounting points for sdcard and emmc, witch is also ok for me, but formating to ext4... wel i frankly don't know how to do this.
I'm quite stuk on this.
The only partitioning experience i've got is Gparted in Ubuntu or repartitioning in Windows 7.
Thans in andvance!

check this
you can expand data partition , but there is a limitation of 1.75gb
Thanks davjan
Thanks davjan,
As far i can see it's indeed not worth it.
I wil have to go on and try to find out how to change the filesystem to ext4 and swap the internal and external sd.
That way i get more usable space instead of a big datastorage witch cannot contain program data.
But thanks for the quick reply.

what rom are you using? is your phone rooted?
swapping internal with internal sd is very easy
and most of the roms here on xda are ext4 , if you instal one of them they autoconvert to ext4

I you read the link provided you'll see that it makes what you want: grow internal filesystem = lower SDcard usable space. The only thing is that it doesn't seem possible is to use the whole space: system limitation. 75Markus tried high /system and /data values and phone didn't work.
See in his Mediafire Folder, 'Nvflash + guide for changing Partitions:
http://www.mediafire.com/75markus
Ext4 is now common with custom ROMs (in fact all of them).
You should search in sd-ext partition system, which was designed to artificially expand filesystem on older phones using an 'ext' partition. I didn't heard anybody using this on O2X.
If you use CyanogenMod based ROMs, your external card will be mounted ad /sdcard by default.
Switching internal and external SD
Thanks guy's,
I'll check it out.
I've been using cyanogenmod 7.1 stable with vorkkernel 20110208.
But that gave me batterydrains while using maps and nextvid ate the same time (while i'm driving).
Now i'm trying MIUI 1.11.11 with latest swift extreme.
But MIUI is very buggy so i'm thinking of going back to CM.
The only thing is that my phone won't boot with the latest vorkkernel.

[Q] Repartition internal memory for more space for applications

Hi everybody, I am currently trying to solve a problem with not having enough space for my applications on the N7000.
I consider myself a power user that uses many applications, and I do not really understand why a phone with 16GB internal storage and the possibility of an micro sd card, which I have allocates so little space to applications.
I have searched a lot on the internet and on this forum, and the only thing I could find was how to swap the internal memory with the micro sd card, which is not really what I would like to do. I trust more in the internal memory, and I prefer to have all my media (pictures, videos and documents on my micro sd card).
So the question is, can I increase the size of the data partition from 1.97GB to lets say 3 or even 4GB?
If yes, how could I do that?
Currently I am using 1.71 GB / 1.97 GB and I still get not enough space for applications when I am trying to update something like Facebook or any plus 20MB application.
Could anyone explain why this is happening?
I don't know any way to extend the internal data partition but in order to get more storage for apps I can recommend you the app Link2SD which uses a second partition on your external sd card. You can get it for free from play store and it's not really complicated. All you need to do is create that second partition on your sd card. I'd give it a try if I were you.

This post explains how:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1887864
You need at least noob knowledge of adb (ie copy-pasting commands).
The second command was
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
rather than
parted /dev/block/mmcblock0
I've just done it on my Note.

Hi Please can you help me with repartitioning my samsung gal gtn7000 internal storage for me ?
Thanks
Hi,
I have the Note GT-N7000 with Android stock 4.1.2 and i'm not rooted.
I have a problem with my 1,97 GB partition which is full.
Does this method require root ?
I ever use root + Link2SD on anothers devices. Which methode do you recommend for the note to free up space ? Link2SD or this method ?
Are there others solutions ?
Thanks
I would go for rooting, repartitioning and installing a new kernal that supports trim and a new up to date ROM. I chose this method for my wifes N7000 as being able to TRIM the emmc chips has really brought it back to life, almost no lag normally, just like when it was new. I installed the latest NightOwl (it's really just Cyanogenmod but with extra bug fixes etc). First you need to repartition as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642299 though I followed a procedure (as I had already installed CM11 I had to go back to stock first) called "How to re-partition Galaxy Note and install Android 5.1.1", there is a link to it on one of the XDA threads I mention in this post and it is on the net (sorry can't find link now). Then I flashed NightOwl http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note/development/rom-t2938649 . This Kernal & ROM are patched so risk of bricking is not any(much) higher than normal I think (though you do this at your own risk). Also being able to choose smaller GApps package further reduced bloat for me.
The only drawback is if you use the Samsung apps a lot you will not be able to install then on new ROM as you need the Samsung framework, but there are altenative apps for all of them, though I guess if you need to import actual data into new apps that may not always be possible.
Just make sure you backup all your personal files, like whatsapp photos etc that are stored on internal SD (sdcard0) as this will be wiped. Also your IMEI settings (with an IMEI app), address books, calender etc
No need to worry about ROOT as you can easily turn it on and off in developer options, I only turn it on when I need to run an app that requires it, then turn off again for added security.
Thanks for your answer, i will check the repartition method you linked.

[Q] Ext 2,3 Partition failed

Hi all
Im not sure this question has been asked a lot or not. I already search same ques like me but none exactly same.
So here is the situation. I do have sd card 2GB in this old Salsa. It used to working fine because i did managed to create ext 2 on the sd card last time. But few days ago the sd card got error ( suddenly it cant open all apps in partition. force closed). So i decided to format and create ext again. Here the come issue. It just seem i cant manage to do it. I did all the drill using minitools, delete partition, create partition etc. Once applied the partition will become unallocated. Can anyone advice me on this?
Thanks!!
ps: i attach the print screen as well.

Firstly ext3 partition,
Secondly primary and not logical type
From what it looks you did everything right,
Anyways reduce your partition size to maybe 250MB or so.... It might be a reason

[Q] ext4 partition help

Hey guys,
Lately I've been doing some read about the benefits of partitioning a SD card. I decided to try but got stuck at the very beginning of the process. I've tried searching for a similar question in our forum but got no answer to my question.
Ok, so I backed up my (16gb class 4) SD Card. Then I decided to use GParted to format/partition my SD card, first I got an error saying I cannot create more than 1 partition without having to delete all partitions first. So I did, and created a GPT partition table, then first created a FAT32 partition, then a 1gb EXT4 partition. I rebooted but got the error saying my SD card was damaged and I must reformat. Then I tried doing this with MiniTool Partition Wizard. Same thing, I couldn't create more than 1 partition, then I reformatted and exact same thing happened. I'm thinking that probably the ROM I'm using does not support this feature. I have Link2SD installed already. I followed almost every partitioning guide here but of course each one is for a specific device and so on.
So here I am, hoping to get some help. I promise I learn quite fast and don't make same questions twice. I appreciate your time in advance.
Why do you want to partition your card? Just use titanium backup or something to move your apps.. Or is there any other benefit?
I've been reading different opinions about it. But I don't see a consensus. So I wanted to try for myself and decide. Would it make a difference if I use Link2sd instead of Titanium? I have Rom Toolbox Pro but I've read it doesn't move apps quite well.
Sent from my HTC Desire C
I used titanium to move my apps to sdcard. The only difference as far as i know is that you can't use your apps when the sdcard is mounted in the pc. Which is fine coz when I'm transferring some files, I don't really need to play games on my phone.
I didn't notice any performance difference either.
But take care of what apps you are transferring. Don't transfer anything important like launchers.
Ok. I moved them with Link2SD. So far the only problem I've had is that some apps take longer to launch, specially after rebooting.
