[Q] Rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab SGH-T849- can't make calls - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have a samsung galaxy tab 7.0 that is rooted and running on android 2.3.3. It is unlocked from tmobile, but when i try to make a call its instantly ends the call and says call ended. what can i do to solve this issue.
thanks

Are you on JJB baseband (in setting phone about) you need a different modem, maybe JPZ (look at dev subforum, sticky threads, there is a modem thread)
It will allow making call but only 2G speed for internet.
Use the famous roto modem switcher to switch back and forth. (also in dev forum, if using this, no need to hunt down the modem file, it is all included).
I am assuming you are on T-mobile network because you didn't say.

[Q] Awful Cell Reception (Bell Canada) (2.3.3 JVK) **FIXED**

Hey Guys,
I had flashed 2.3.3 JVK Gingerbread to my Canadian Bell Samsung i9000m. Since the flash my cellular signal is extremely poor. Getting 0-1 bar in places I would normally get 4-full on Froyo. With JVK the phone is extremely fast, email app has stopped constantly force closing and for the first time, gps works great! This is why I didn't just want to flash back to Froyo to fix the cell signal issue. I had been told by a member here to ensure that [8]WCDMA 850(FDD V)[*] in the band settings had a star in it. It did not, I had selected it and rebooted, star is now there with no change in signal strength.... So this is my question, am I going to have to flash back to froyo to fix this and once again live without GPS? Or is there a work-around or setting to fix signal strength. ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..

NA Bell i9000m Vibrant
Flashed to 2.3.3 JVK Gingerbread with Odin with new Bootloaders, no PIT/Repartition.
EVERYTHING else works perfect, except cellphone signal.
**FIXED**
Flashed the KC1 (Bell Canada Update) modem.bin via odin. I now get full signal (84dB) where I had previosly had none. (2.3.3. Modem). Gps working great. Phone still fast as hell.
Also just a follow up, I tried the JL2 modem first but gps failed to lock. Thanks for the advice though the 850mhz was the key!
No no no! Its just your modem, you can flash any modem toy like!
Go for jl2 as it is 850mhz by default.
Just find the jl2 modem. If its a zip then extract modem.bin and place in the pda section of odin. Flash away! If its a .tar file just put this straight in.

thanks for the quick reply. So the modem type has nothing to do with gps?? Also, how safe is it to flash the modem from another firmware? thanks again for all the help dude.. I apologize in advance for any truly stupid questions haha..

Yes you can use any froyo modem.
As for gps... I hear conflicting reports about that. Jl2 tho has great gps from reports.
I found jvk modem to drain heaps standby. Im guessing that without 850mhz band your phone is using a fallback band with worse reception. Ll2 should sort this out

So is the JL2 from 2.2.1?, as with the 2.2 Froyo, my gps was not just being slow, but not functioning at all (0 Locked sat's).
Also, where would I obtain this modem file, and how is it flashed. I ran a search and noticed that some member state it goes into the PDA field in ODIN and other stating it goes into the PHONE field. Also, I have not modified the bootloader,(Stock came with 2.3.3) and I am unsure weather it could be flashed using the update method. As this is my work phone, I need to be sure I will not brick it. Once again, sorry for all the questions, the help is GREATLY appreciated.
**EDIT**
Also, when going into the *#2263#, the 850 Band is listed in both the GSM and CDMA areas, both with a corresponding star in the box beside them. Not sure if this means the band is actually there or not. One thing I am sure of is the fact that with FROYO my signal was perfect, with GPS non existant and phone generally SLOW, with 2.3.3 EVERYTHING is working great with the exception of the cell signal strength. Speed is incredible.
Ah glad to hear you sorted it out! Being half canadian myself I was glad I helped.

I Can not accept an incoming call on Samsung Galaxy S
I just recently upgraded my phone to Gingerbread, since then i have been having problem to receive an Incoming calls
when I have an incoming call, the phone does not ring or, vibrate or even show the incoming call screen. the only thing I can see is the little icon next to 3G icon on the top of the screen showing there is an incoming call and the screen will be blank. non either call accept or reject page will show instead it will show blank page and the network bar will be lost.

Which modem.bin file do I use to allow phone call for my USA T-mobile SGT?

I am about to flash my USA T-mobile SGT to Gingerbread and use the Overcome v2.0.0 BETA 2.
When using Odin3 v1.7 and get to the part where I can put in the phone option, I just don't know which modem.bin I should use.
I currently have the following modem.bin files:
1. JPZ-Modem
2. TMO-Modem (T-mobile)
Out of these 2, which one should I use? ...or should I use another one?
I am aware that USA T-mobile Galaxy tab can either use 2G data/call or 3G data and no phone call.
Which modem should I use to allow phone call on the tab?
Thanks.
To my understanding you select tmobile modem for u.s. Phones

The best voice modem for US T-mobile is the Roto-2g modem. It is a T959 vibrant modem, and any vibrant modem will give you 2g (EDGE)+voice.
The roto modem is in the modem switcher thread, where you can enable your US tab to have 3g or 2g+voice.

Google "t-mobile redirect" for the xda-frowned upon instructions. It's a simple process. WARNING: back up and move that copy to your laptop.

[Q] Bell Galaxy Tab on Rogers - no internet

Hello all,
I am using Gingerbread - Overcome on an unlocked Bell Galaxy tab.
I am able to make phone calls or send / receive SMS messages with my Rogers sim card.
However there is no internet / data connection.
I have tried to use different APN settings, but no luck.
Could please anyone point me in the right direction? Is is possible that the modem file I used is not the right one? ( I have used the JPZ modem file)? If I need a different modem file: which one do I need? Can I reflash just the modem with Odin, leaving all the other parts unchanged?
Thank you all!
Wohoo: it works!!! All I had to do is to allow "Data Network Mode" in the shutdown screen.
Stupid me....

[Q] Making/Enabling phone calls on Overcome 1.6.4

Hi,
First time poster here, so I apologize ahead of time for any mistakes. So my question is, is it possible to enable phone calls using the Overcome 1.6.4 rom. I have a T-Mobile Galaxy Tab. It's been flashed with the Tmobile modem, but calls end right away when dialing. Ive read practically every guide regarding enabling phone calls on the galaxy tab. From what Ive read, most of the guides require you to flash a different rom (Euro) I believe. I know I would only get edge when using it as a phone, which I am fine with. What do I need to do to enable the phone feature on just the Overcome rom or do I need to follow the guides and flash a different rom? I would be using a T-mobile sim card, do I need to delete the efs folder after backing it up as well? Thanks in advance.
Nothing?
No one has an answer?

Hmmmm.... what is your location ? Did you flash a Euro-FW ? The fact your Tab showed being on EDGE-network is not bad, it just means you hadn't activated the data-link in setting-wireless-etc... E or G are the normal cell-bands.
Try to reflash your modem with a JMA,JPZ or JQ2 modem from the thread. Mind you, JQ2 will show up as JQ3 in settings these are the quadband/data-enabled modems working a charm here...
thhx i try it and let u know the outcome
I use RotoHammer Modem switch for 2G voice and 3G for high speed surf. It's much easier for me than flashing TMO's 2G-3G every time you want to use either one. TMO's 2G should be 12 megs and the 3G is 16 megs. I'm not sure why when I downloaded ROTO's switch both files have the same megs. Anyway, just a thought for all of us here.
