I have recently noticed when I made my first call after ICS upgrade, at high volume during a call, there is slight disturbing humming with the voice of the other person as if, the earpiece speaker is being driven beyond its limit. My note has never ever fallen from my hand even on my bed or sofa, so there's no possibility of any physical damage. Or could it be that the quality of earpiece speaker is really low that it starts giving such disturbances after some time. Anybody else experienced this?
It could just be the reception issue or some sort of interference rather than the ICS upgrade.

for some reason yesterday when i tried to make a call, the other party's voice was extremely silent. I could barely hear what the person is saying. i tried calling again and that time i could hear the voice but it cut out a few minutes later. I am thinking the problem is obviously the earpiece or is there anything else that could have caused this? I just want to know if the earpiece on the diamond is easy to change? thanks
Buy a bluetooth earpiece will solve all the problem? They are abundant. Even is small size and so cheap (less than $10).
Hey guys, I've noticed a weird bug with stock 4.2.1 on my Nexus 4, and was wondering if anyone is experiencing the same thing. If not, then perhaps it is the hardware and not the software, but the nature of this bug has lead me to believe it is software-related.
Let me first say, right off the bat, that I have had no other issues with my phone, and that when I play games or watch movies, the volume is loud, clear, crisp--just all around excellent. However, when I use the speakerphone on a call, it seems to be... quieter than everything else. So I tried playing around with it, and discovered something interesting.
The next time you're in a call, put it on speakerphone. Note how loud it sounds to you. Then, turn the volume down one notch, and then put it back up to the max volume again (I've only experimented with it being at max already, then turning it down one notch, and then back up).
Does it sound WAY louder? And does it sound distorted, almost overblown? Why would it be like that during a call, and why would adjusting the volume down and then back up again have such a result if it was NOT software related? And, furthermore, why would it be blown out and distorted here where as for everything else it sounds superb?
Let me know your thoughts--maybe I need to RMA? I got this one at T-Mobile (I didn't have to pay the equipment installment due to my current plan, so it was cheaper to buy it @ $200 from them).
Thanks!
Same Here .. I believed it was the only with this problem since no one had said.
I think is Software Issue.
Yeah I noticed that no one had mentioned this, but I believe if it's software then it must be affecting everyone. At least, it should be affecting stock users. I guess I noticed this sooner because I use speaker phone when I'm driving in the car, since my ragtag bluetooth receiver that outputs through a tape that's plugged into it and inserted into the tape deck only transmits music and notifications, not calls--for some reason--over the car speakers. Just got sick of plugging into the phones headphone jack every time I got in and out of the car! lol

See but mine doesn't crackle or do any of that stuff during calls or anything else. And it's not blown out sounding during anything other than calls where I have lowered the volume and then put it back up to max right after. I don't think the problem is the same as it is here, it just seems similar, for sure.
Also, when not on speaker phone, the in call volume is perfect and without issue. It's limited to specifically what I mentioned in the original post.
Thanks for the reply, but I'm talking about it being overtly loud and only being so when adjusting the volume down and back up to max, and that prior to that, the volume is just a bit on the quiet side at the maximum. Not crackling/popping/etc!
cool..sorry about that.
Exact same situation with me.little buzz while on call nothing else.

No problem! Appreciate the attempted help =]
Is anyone here hearing a low hiss/crackle type noise when on phone calls. Almost like the speaker is a little blown out?
This is not noticeable when listening to music etc; only on phone calls.
I'm not sure how common this is or if I should get it swapped out. Though swapping it probably carries the risk of acquiring the other pop/crackle speaker issue
Thanks for any input.

I heard them also.. But seems very commond and seems that 4.2.2 solve all these audio issue ( havent tried myself but read on topics)
I am also having the same issue. I am having this problem on some sim cards(2G). As one of my sim card doesn't cause this problem which is a 3G sim. Though it should not have any problem due to sim cards or network, this problem surely doesn't occur in my 3G sim. Wierd problem!
Me too

I hear a crackle type noise (occasionally) when I'm on calls. It's not continuous. Occurs randomly. It only lasts for a fraction of a second though. is this what you're talking about??

I believe there are different things experienced by different guys. I've read many topics about various sounds.
There is a sound like a speaker does when you listen to music and it stops. It happens after you listen to something (like Beat gets turned off). Like a hissing maybe? I can't descibe it better. It's like the speaker is on high volume and then stops. It lasts for a brief moment and you can hear it if you are near the phone and there is relative silence.
There are also some "pop" sounds sometimes. These sounds sometimes happen when you listen to music.
And there is something else, in my case when talking on the phone there is something like a crackle sometimes when the other person is speaking. It doesn't happen all the time. At first I thought it was because of bad signal but I don't think it's true.
Hi All,
I have recently purchased this phone and am very pleased with it.
The only issue I have is that in calls when the volume is turned all the way up the earpiece buzzes slightly.
Does anyone else have this issue?
thanks.
Nope, but from what you describe it sounds to me like there's contamination in the earpiece speaker, when the speakers membrane vibrates high enough, the contamination vibrates along and that could be the buzzing sound you hear... unless it's a different kind of buzzing... like continuous buzzing, is it?
The buzzing only occurs when the volume is turned up loud. It is as as if the speaker is loose and is vibrating inside the housing. Also occasionally when i make or answer a call the speaker doesn't work and there is no sound from the other caller.
I plan to return it to the store I bought it and try and get a replacement as surely this is faulty hardware?
It surely isn't a software issue, and unless you have a very poor signal while in call, there should be no reason to have a crappy (or absent) caller sound, other than the possibility I mentioned below, which sounds very likely... Hope they can fix or replace it for you
I contacted both motorola and Three UK (whom I purchased it from) and they both said it was not normal. I returned it to a Three store and got it replaced. The new one has no buzzing so i think its all sorted.
So i have had the replacement for nearly 2 weeks now and the issue has started again. there is a buzzing when in call. it varies with the pitch of the other callers voice but it sounds like there's a bee stuck in the earpiece or the speaker itself is loose and is vibrating.
Im not rough with the phone at all and most of the time it sits on my desk at work.
apparently there is a similar issue with the RAZR M in the U.S
surely I cant be unlucky enough to be the only one in the UK to have this issue and to have it twice....
Hey folks,
I had the problem with the stock ROM and now I have the similar problem with jackeagels 5.5.1 (SM-G800F).
My microphone works sometimes and sometimes doesn't. People I want to call can't hear me. Eventually after a few calls they do. This is a state I don't want to stay in so does one has any idea what the problem could be? A while ago I pulled some dust out of the mic hole (with a needle) but that doesn't seem to be the problem here
Mines always been dust in the hole. Get compressed air can and blast it. Very annoying.
Hey Guys!
I have a similar problem but only when I use the internal mic, the problem does not occur when I use my headset.
Sometimes, the people I'm calling say that they can hear me very quietly.
Mostly, they say that they hear a constant noise or sound like a "bom bom bom" which is in the background. I can't hear this sound myself and as I said it does not occur when the headset is plugged in.
Any help is appreciated!
Regards, Jens
What phone model? What OS?
The main mic is at the bottom, near USB port. Recording a voice note without earphone, of course, works? The mic hole is dirt or blocked somehow?

Thanks for your reply.
It is a G800F with CyanogenMod 13.
I tested the issue after my initial post with the voice recorder in detail.
So the sound is a kind of buzzing like in the early days of mobile phones when you put your phone near a radio and you get an incoming call.
When I record with the voice recorder, then I hear the buzzing. It is stronger when I say something and quiter when I record silence. Then I also made the same test with my headset, and, unfortunately the buzzing also occured. The intensity was bit lower I think but the sound was there.
Unfortunately, I never tested it with the stock rom. Could this problem be related to a software problem? I'm not sure if I backup my CM and install a stock rom for testing...
Thx!
Yeah, the best way to mak sure it's not software is backup and going back to stock. If it still doesn't work then you have a hardware issue almost certainly...
