Good Day XDA
Here is the thing. I am still new to rooting and flashing ROMs and so called kernels, If it would be so kind of you if i may ask the full step by step process in doing what you have just posted regarding installing ROM (paranoid android Version 0.2) provided with all the download links. I am really into using this ROM (PA) V.2.: cool: Its just I dont see any tutorials on the web for the step-by-step process to get my SGN GT-N7000 to run perfectly on the PA. By the way, im on stock samsung ROM and not yet rooted.
PS: This is goint to be my first time to work with rooting and flashing fernels and ROMs

You can follow the procedure suggested by the following website to root your phone:
http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-gt-n7000-method-2odinheimdall/
I suggest that you go slow one step at a time to be familiar with all the details before going to the next step.
Go read DrKetan's post in the Android Development thread about rooting your phone and such.

As the title says, is there anyway to do this ?
To be honest i want to flash the overcome ROM with the ICS theme but my friend said that my tab may get hardware brick if I flashed another ROM, Is he right or wrong ?
I'm new to android I used to have a Symbian phone and I flashed so many Firmwares without any problem. Is it different in Android ?
Thanks
Just Do It!
Simply follow the instructions for Overcome. I am a n00b also and am successfully running Overcome 4 ROM - it's fairly simple.
The overcome site is down for some reason but if you follow this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317384
...you'll be fine. Instructions below (it's a screenshot of the instructions page when it was online - the files you'll have to locate yourself (google!))

So today my little bro asked me to root his Note and flash CM9 on it, but I came to a halt when I found out his current firmware with which the phone was delivered is on the "not directly rootable" list, which I take it can only be rooted by flashing an older firmware?
The kernel seems to be the N7000XXLC1 while the phone is N7000XXLB2. It came delivered with a Telia (Swedish carrier) ROM.
Is there some other way to root this phone other than switching to an older firmware? Some exploit or something? I'd hate to accidentally brick his phone considering it's but a few days old. The way of helping him would be:
1. Install CWM
2. Root and/or install custom ROM
Does the N7000 have some sort of bootloader to unlock, or a fastboot mode? Is it easy to accidentally brick it? I mean a deeper brick than just a system brick? You'd have eternal gratitude if you could pinpoint me to an easy way of doing this or if you could compose an easy guide. Duly note I have checked the two guides here but the first one is a root option for ICS firmwares and the other one involves flashing an older firmware with ODIN, one thing I don't actually wanna do, just yet.
I myself use a Galaxy Nexus so things work out completely different on the two with the Nexus being more of a developer's phone. My bro hates Gingerbread by now and the lame Touchwiz UI.
Go to development subforum and read dr ketans guide.
The safest is to revert back to older roms and root if you need it. Avoid cwm in ICS if you can.
Read, read, and read some more.

I just want to get him CM9 in the easiest way possible. Why do you say I should avoid cwm in ICS?
There are many issues with bricking in ics kernels by doing factory restores or large data transfers.
To the best of my knowledge though, cm9 kernels are safe, as well as paranoid Android and a couple of others. There's a great thread about the dangers of ics somewhere.

Well his phone is currently running gingerbread and it looks like I'm gonna have to flash back to a rootable firmware. I managed to find a very easy to-do guide in my own language so now I think I'll manage it.
I'll install CM9 on his Note since I know he likes CM9 and the Cyanogenmod team is highly reliable. I'm not saying the other aren't, I'm merely saying that the ROMs by CM have always worked in some way.
Hi all,
First of all, sorry if my questions been asked million times, I did try search and read through the forum for days, still not sure.
I had my cappy since 2009, flashed couple times to custom roms with some experts assistant here. Was using HTC EVO 3D for half a year..... and dont like it, and i gave it to my wife, coming back to cappy. l like the captivate community here. a lot more developers and good roms for cappy.
I have done couple days reading on the captivate Q&A, Development, and general section, also, search through youtub and google. no tutorial for flashing from custom rom to JB. I cannot be sure which is the correct flashing procedures for me. Since I was missing half a year time following the captivate thread.
My cappy is using,
FireFly 3.0
Baseband version: I9000UGJK4
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected]
1) In order to flash to Jelly bean, what would be the safest way to flash?
2) if flashing CyanogenMod 10, I have read the procedure for flashing CyanogenMod 10, sounds like no Odin needed, just flash from internal SD?
Any help would be highly appreciated

I DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY AT ALL. YOU VETO THE RIGHT TO SUE ME
Steps to get you to CM9 (i personally am having trouble going to cm10)
I take things one step at a time to not mess up anything.
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266
a) make sure you have ATT Gingerbread bootloaders
b) install CWM via the kernel
c) if fails odin back to stock(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843) and repeat (should work)
2) download cm7 from ( http://get.cm/?device=captivatemtd )
a) mount storage and place inside
b) from CWMRecovery follow instructions for flashing (look on internet) to wipe everything and install from zip (itll reboot)
3) download Glitch kernel for cm9 (maybe you might need to do this if you experience boot loops, or error)
4) flash cm9 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592141&highlight=kernel)
5)....
Hey bro,
Dont worry, I understand the risk of bricking. I really appreciate your detailed info. I am gonna follow your instruction to flash tonight when I get home.
Some more things tho, I have a rogers cappy means I896, should I get rogers bootloader instead? And what if I flash some ROM which is not CM based, would the procedure any different? Cuz heard ppm saying after flashing CM based ROM is harder to get back normal ROMs because of different file system structure.
By reading some threads, there ppl saying ICS can understand any boot loader, so I don't have the flash it? Cuz I heard flashing that is most risky.
Lastly, I would like to thank you by at least clicking your thanks meter, but is not on your signature. Or could u tell me to click that.
Again, I really appreciate your help
Jack

Hi Everyone
After waiting for a year now and it seems that Samsung didn't released any newer updates for my Note GT-N7000 at my country. I was hoping for them to release an update to prevent that "MMC_CAP_ERASE bug? that causes hardbrick" that i have been hearing around here..
But now i got tired of waiting and Now I want to try to root/flash to a safe custom rom, Since i am currently having some problems with my Note now. It's acting a little weird like apps not functioning properly and deleting a small MB file on Internal Memory it takes very long to get it deleted Annoying artifacts appearing during at Dark or Black scenes while watching a video. Using Earphones while watching a video the audio sometimes got muted itself then for a few seconds it resumes back with audio back on repeatedly.
I have only experience on rooting and flashing my Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 but i had a soft brick thanks to the person who posted misleading instructions that causes this to happen. But eventually i managed to recovered from the soft brick and successfully flashing to a JB custom rom
Yeah before you asked me "have you read this Important thread ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360 " Yes I have already read everything on the first post by dr ketan at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
Anyway, Here is my Information i found on my Note.
Model Number is GT-N7000.
Android Version 4.0.4 Stock ICS.
Baseband version N7000DXLR1.
Kernel Version 3.0.1.5-N7000DXLR5-CL968032
Build Number IMM76D.DXLR5
Here are my questions,
[Q Number 1]
I have already read everything on the first post by dr ketan. I notice there's so many of methods to root the Note. But I'm not sure which one is the safest and easiest method to Root and Flash Hopefully someone here is kind to guide me through the process since this is my first time rooting and flashing on a Note GT-N7000 running on Android 4.0.4 Stock ICS.
[Q Number 2]
There's tons of JB custom roms everywhere! I'm not sure which one is the best and popular one. I'm looking for a fast and stable Jellybean custom rom that are currently available for my Note GT-N7000.
I will be waiting and checking this thread regularly

The safest and easiest way to flash ROM and get ROOT at the same time is using Odin Mobile, which offers option for getting ROOT.
You can use Stock ROM LT4.
For most popular custom ROMs : Eybee1970, Team Union, Alliance, Sweet,
ThaiDai ROM for slim and mutillanguage, Glory ROM also for multilanguage with mods.
There are a lot of other good ROMs here, you have to read more to find out what suits better to your taste.

The safest and easiest way doesn't exist. It's up to you.
And best Rom threads and questions are simply against XDA policy, read the rules and you'll see.

Hello there
I'm really sorry if i just break some of the rules here. I wonder if it's okay for me to just follow the recommended method 1A by dr ketan ? Now i am in PhilZ thread i suppose i have to find my own Galaxy Note Kernel Version first right ? which is DXLR5 so i guess i have to download this kernel here http://www.mediafire.com/?c2jmfqnwajw8ei1 .PhilZ-cwm6-DXLR5-OLB-v3.99 Then flash it in the menu called Stock Recovery (VolumeUP+HOME+POWER button)
I found out that my Baseband version has a DXLR1 in there. Should i be worry on this ?
The PhilZ kernel file listed v3.99 there. my Kernel Version is 3.0.1.5-N7000DXLR5-CL968032, Example when i managed to flash that kernel. I guess that my Kernel Version will changed to like 3.9.9.9 am i right ? or it is not okay to just flash to latest updated kernel like v3.99 ?
I hope it's okay to just answer my newbie questions here. I need someone to help me and tell me whether if i did it right or wrong.
Thank you very much

No problem when you see :
- Baseband DXLR1
- Difference between 3.99 and 3.0.1.5-N7000DXLR5-CL968032.The first is the Philz own version, the second is the Samsung one.
It's normal.

1.As far as rooting method is concerned on said thread, all the methods are safe. there are pros and cons of different method and already mentioned on thread.
I do recommend 1A, as it will root device as well gives you protection from brick bug and without raising flash counter too. So in case you want to go that way, download LR5 philx kernel in zip version and flash from stock recovery.
2.See ROM selection is totally depends on own taste, you can never rely on others answer, but best way go through OP of custom ROM thread, read features mentioned, read some reviews/bugs and try it yourself. that's the only and best way.

First of all, Dr Ketan Thank you very much for helping me with this. I really appreciate your help Yeah i understand what you're trying to mean about that custom ROMs I will take a look at all of them later.
But now I want to see if i got it right again. I will flash it after you give me the final confirmation i need :victory:
1. Find my own stock Kernel build code DXLR5 then go to PhilZ thread and find PhilZ Kernel that listed my Kernel code which is PhilZ-cwm6-DXLR5-OLB-v3.99 then download it After that Connect a USB cable to the computer + Note then copy the PhilZ kernel and place at Root dir of External microSD card then turn off Galaxy Note, then hold VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER button for a few seconds to boot in Stock Recovery Menu then flash it at there. am i right ?
Last question here, Finding a Custom Rom that suit my needs might take awhile since i haven't read all of them yet. But i wonder if it's okay to stay in Stock ICS Android 4.0.4 + PhilZ Kernel ?

1.Yes, but remember you have to select zip version of kernel not tar
obviously there is nothing wrong to stay on stock with safe kernel till you couldn't find out best custom ROM for you.

Okay Yeah i got the signed version instead of that .tar version which is for ODIN.
Good News! i just flashed it and it works! I have SuperSU application installed. I really appreciate all your help that you have done dr ketan thank you very much. Now i have PhilZ CWM kernel. does it uses the same buttons to activate it like the stock recovery ? VOLUMEUP+HOME+POWER BUTTON,
Ok I have a GT P1000 (belongs to a friend)...
AND ALL I WANT IS A DAMN CM10.1!!
No clear instructions how to go to CM10.1 from CM9
No clear instructions where to change from CWM to TWRP
No clear instructions on how to fix errors
No clear instructions on how to 'restock' either (There are like a plethora of "restock" ROMs and have no clue which one to flash when).
PLz people..I am not angry..just upset..can any1 help.. plz?
PS: I have tried flashing CM10.1 by Alroger/Cdesai and the Touchwiz 4.2.2 and all three give me Status 7. There is absolutely no way I can change the recovery or fix this error. Is this some MD5 checksums issue?
Don't multi post your problem.
It is so simple. Most instruction for CM10.1 ask you to restock, so just do it.
You were in sos_sifou's overcome thread. Use that. If you forgot where, see my signature.
1) You better don't go from cm9 to cm10 directly, for reasons I mentioned there in reply to you.
2) You don't need to change from CWM to TWRP, when you flash the new ROM, it comes with TWRP in it's kernel. P1000 does not have separate partition for recovery. It has to be included in the kernel.
3) not everyone encounters your error
4) any of the restock instruction will likely work. If you haven't even tried, why didn't you? Safest is to use overcome method.
your status 7 will go away with overcome method.
Hi guy
The dude speaks true but you might want a bit of hand holding.
Alterbridge, a genius contributor, wrote a ROM in gingerbread called the overcome ROM for the p1 version of the tab based on leaked Samsung code. His latest version was called kratos and was really quite amazing. The overcome ROM can be downloaded from mirrors that are provided regularly on the xda SG tab site. Find using search p1 overcome from xda.
Loading this leaked GB ROM is called restocking and brings you to a vanilla system with few problems. Most people use Odin to load it under windows or heimdall under Linux. Both are pretty easy. They do erase anything on the sdcard though, so be careful.
This provides a stable base from which to install ICS and jb versions mostly championed by humberos, sbradymobile and cdsai. The 10.0 version mostly works. 10.1 has a broken front camera for selfie fans to lament but recent improvements to the battery life provides redemption. I like 10.1.
10.2 is still a bit wobbly but works well enough and gives the cutting edge if you can handle it.
To progress you have to find overcome and Odin / heimdall. Flash of and follow the prompts. This will give you a rooted tab under gingerbread and cw recovery.
Entering recovery you can flash any of the 10.x ROMs and the gapps zip and experience the latest android versions. Really quite amazing. Use too manager to find the latest gapps zip and the 10.1 daily uploads.
Hope this helps, read lots of xda and Google cm 10.1 BBQ to find the latest stable stuff.
Happy exploring, follow the guides precisely on the first posts of a thread to get updates and current info and to avoid bricks. Good luck, it's really rewarding to follow these amazing folks and their work.

If not mistaken, the alphabetical released ends with K (kratos) was for 3.x series.
