HBO GO For Tablet - Xoom Themes and Apps

So HBO GO launched for Amazon Kindle Fire. After some tinkering I was able to extract the APK and install it on my Motorola Xoom. I watched a few videos and so far it works great. I haven't tried it on other Android tablets other than the Motorola Xoom.

Here is the APK..... CHECK POST 5 FOR DIRECTIONS

I wonder if it works for other Android tablets....

According to some people on xoomforums it doesnt work for them but they are also rooted.

No luck for me. It started running, then just gave me errors like "app not owned" and "app not available for this device". I'm on a Xoom WiFi, ICS 4.0.4 straight from Google. No rooting or anything like that.

Edit:
I believe the reason why its working on my xoom is because I purchased the app already. So when it checks Amazon's servers to see if the App has been purchased, it shows that I have purchased the app and allows me to install.
1. First uninstall hbogo. (If already installed....)
2. Then open up the amazon app store. Type "Hbo go" in the search.
3. Scroll down to the HBO Go Kindle Fire Edition. Click on the "Free" Button as illustrated in the picture below (your button should say free instead of open).
This will allow you to purchase the app but it will not install. Its going to tell you its not compatible or something like that.
4. Then try to install the apk that was posted above and see will it work. Please post if it works or do not work for you.. Also post your tablet, rooted, unrooted, rom, 4g or wifi only and etc. This will help the dev community get it running on all android tablet devices.... Thanks

seems to work on my touchpad...

Thanks I saw the instructions on Xoom Forums and it worked perfectly.
Edited for clarity: I'm on Xoom WiFi, ICS 4.0.4, No root.

I got it to work on my Transformer Prime.
1. Go to amazon.com and search for "hbo go in android apps".
2. 1-click buy (for free).
3. Download this APK and install.
Unfortunately my cable provider is time warner who can't seem to get their **** together with HBO Go and don't support this kindle fire version (just like they don't support it on xbox 360) so I couldn't actually log in but I was able to view preview videos just fine.

The Amazon App store work around works for me. Thnx.

Thanks... Please post if it works or do not work for you.. Also post your tablet model, rooted, unrooted, rom, 4g or wifi only and etc. This will help the dev community get it running on all android tablet devices.... Thanks

Works on Samsung GTab 8.9
I have a wifi only Gtab.
I ended up just buying the app on the website and not in the Appstore app. Othere than that I followed the instructions and everything is fine.
Wonder why they have a setting for 3G playback? AFAIK, there are no 3G Kindle Fires

Unrooted Galaxy Tab 10.1
Working just fine after "purchasing" the app on the Amazon App Store.

Worked like a champion on my unrooted stock Acer Iconia A510. Thanks a lot!

For some reason it doesnt work with the EOS rom... A couple of people on the xoomforums running the EOS rom were having the same issues.

followed Kindle Fire instructions, then installed the apk...
it's working perfectly on my VZW 4G Xoom stock ICS 4.0.4
THANKS!
this was the last missing piece to my list of must have apps on my Xoom!

It is working on my GTablet
Running Honeycomb
Flashback Reunion ROM
I downloaded the Amazon app store and purchased the app from there
I had already installed the HBO GO app and after purchasing in the amazon app store the app is working perfectly so far
My 3G connection is a bit slow but its working, lol

I have had problems with games on the EOS rom's also, but I installed this on a Wingray Xoom rooted running AOKP 38 and it works great, just need a login, will call my parents tomorrow. Thanks mom

I am running EOS nightly 94 it doesn't work.

Zinio

I have been looking for a way to read my magazines that I have on Zinio it seems forever. Well, thanks to the Galaxy Tab there is a way! It consists of three apps that need to be installed. My Zinio library is hit or miss for content but it has about half of my stuff I subscribe to. It works in portrait, and landscape. Can zoom, and has the text button so you can read the articles more easily. I like it!!

Thanks for posting this. I've been using Zinio on my G Tablet for a few weeks now and am loving it. All of my subscriptions show up with only one exception. There is an "interactive" version of National Geographic Traveler that refuses to show up in my list. I'm thinking it may be because of it being an "interactive" selection.
I've sent Zinio support an email about it and hopefully they will turn me on to a newer apk.

Got a response from Zinio support. They apologized for my inconvenience and asked if my tablet came with the app installed. I told them that it had not and told them that my tablet was running froyo with Flash.
Now I await the next response. I will update you all when I hear back.
This is the latest response from Zinio support:
Hello, Thank you for contacting Zinio Customer Support.
The Zinio Android app that is out there right now is a developers version and is not complete. Even though it works for the most part there are some bugs that are still being worked on. Currently, the Android app is available only as a pre-installed application on select devices.
We are working on an expansion plan now. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.
Kind regards,

Interesting. Kind of what I expected them to say. What I get from that is either they are putting a developer only app on the Galaxy Tab that is presently being sold or there are 2 different ones out there. The one I linked to is from the Galaxy tab.
Could anyone that has this do a search on skateboard and list what they find? there should be 4 mags: http://gb.zinio.com/search/index.js...kateboard&button.x=0&button.y=0&button=Search

I have to say they have pretty good support. They issued a full refund for the subscription to the "interactive" magazine I couldn't bring up on my gTab.
So while I would have preferred they give me a newer app that would allow me to have read it on my gTab, I guess a prompt refund is the next best thing.

Zinio will soon be in the Market
Just received an email from a Zinio rep saying that they are about to release the Zinio app in the Market. I guess this will mean we won't keep having to run the one from the Galaxy Tab dump for much longer.
Zinio link to the android page
Working great on my G-Tab
I'm running Vegan 5.1.1 and it works just fine.
I have 3 magazines I subscribe to and they all are there and download fine.
Thanks for the heads up. I never even thought of trying to get Zinio working until I read your thread.
Still don't see my April issues in Zinio
Hey guys, are you having any luck in seeing your April issues in Zinio? I can still see all my older magazines fine but I don't see the new issues delivered. I know they were having problems for the last two or three weeks but I saw an email that said all was well again. But I still don't see my new issues and I've send Zinio Support an email about it but haven't heard back yet.
Thought I'd ask the community.
I have issues that I can see on the website, but do not show up on the Tablet. So I guess there is something wrong..
Yeah, so you're in the same boat as me. I can see the April issues on the Zinio website in my library but they don't show up in the Zinio app on the gTab at the moment. I wonder if this has anything to do with their imminent official Market app release which should be soon.
In the meantime they did send me a $15 credit to use on another magazine on their site but until I can read them on the gTab again it's not much of use to me.
Some April issues are showing up but not all of them
Like the subject line says, I noticed last night one April issue out my five subscriptions showed up in the Zinio app but not the other four. Then just a minute ago I used the $15 credit they sent me for the outage for another subscription and that issue showed up as soon as my order went through. At this time the other four subscriptions April issues haven't shown up in the app.

Weatherbug for Honeycomb - available yet?

Hey guys does anyone know if the new Honeycomb Weatherbug app is available? While I don't actually have my Xoom yet, I was playing with one in my local VZ store and found that it wasn't installed in the floor model, nor could I find it on the Market (found the regular WB and WB Elite, but nothing that seemed to indicate the new one). Anyone have any insight into this?
EDIT - Nevermind, just found it via the online Android Market - its the Honeycomb Beta. Mods can delete this if they wish!

Were you able to download and install, or is your pic from a preview of the app? I have tried, as recently as 5 minutes ago, to download and it fails. If I try the online Market, it tells me my Xoom is not compatible. I can find it now on the Xoom, but the Market does not let me download. Do you have any tips/tricks? I really need something better than AccuWeather.
for whatever reason, the weatherbug beta for honeycomb says my xoom is not elgible >_< WTF! i thought i had honeycomb now google is telling me no. >_<
Same here. I can find it in the online Market but it says my device is not compatible.
The version in the market is the old small screen version.
Can someone please post the apk if its in beta or whatever?
I don't understand why it shows up in the market if it can't be downloaded, this beta is for hc, this is the only device that natively runs it at this time. It must have been an error on weatherbug's part. I'm suprised it hasn't been taken down yet.

Would like to add that I'm having the same installation issues as everyone else. Given the fact that the app is on the market though, I'd say it shouldn't be too long until we see it go live. Why would there be movies? That is only for HC, right now. Seems better in landscape for me, then portrait tbh.
Also, install instructions like that are unneeded. Just move the vending.apk to your sdcard and install with a file manager. It will just update like normal.

How are they preventing Playback on Rooted devices? Is there some way it detects that we're rooted or something? If it simply tries running a Command via SU, couldn't we block that? I'm trying to think of otherways that it could detect Root but all the ones I can think of I think we could workaround. What are they doing to accomplish this?

Puffin is a cloud browser. You're not technically running flash, its just that Puffin's servers are streaming it to you. IMHO, the quality isn't the same.
I too can't get flash to work on N5, but works on my N4, N7, N10, & G2. Probably not going to update those to Kit Kat if flash don't work.
I've been watching live sports via flash streams using the Photon Browser. It's a little quirky and has a lot of ads, but it gets the job done.

Agreed!
Has anyone tried installing Flash and Dolphin Browser and then deleted the preferences file for Dolphin? That's the fix I used on my Nexus 4 and has worked forever since. For some reason my N4 now seems to have lost root so can't get into the data folder to see where the file is exactly. I'll have a go tonight once I have my N5 and rooted it.
No idea what's going on with my N4, think it's feeling replacement depression and rebelling against me haha!

Amazon prime video not working

Hi Guys,
For an unknown reason, Amazon prime video doesn't seem to want to work on my Note 8 (works flawlessly on other android and Samsung devices I have). Everytime I start a video I get an errorstating "Decryption failure".
Another thread in the S7 forum suggested renaming a system file but I'm not rooted and don't intend to for the moment.
Anybody else seeing the same behaviour ?
Any solution not requiring root ?
Thanks

Works fine on mine, prime video ver 3.0.211.123021. Maybe you should try to go to settings/apps/primevideo/storage and clear cache and data and force close the application. You will need to sign in again and redo amazon settings.

The version from the Google Play store worked fine for me.
I noticed that my Amazon prime video worked for normal viewing but while in VR headset, some videos are black screen with sound only...
Seems to be working fine .

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.
After several tries with the old Amazon apps, I tried with the latest from Samsung's App (3.0.212.4821 from... today apparently !!) and it works so far.
Google Play suggests updating to 3.0.212.4841 (22nd of september) but i'll keep with the Samsung approved one until I figure out why it didn't function properly.

Did you try with older versions?

Hi Guys,
After a month of testing, I isolated my problem : Amazon Prime Video works perfectly well on my Galaxy Note 8 alone. Problems start when I try to use the HMDI connection : I want to watch my movies on a big screen using the USB-C to HDMI cable. It works perfectly well with everything else, but systematically causes an error with Amazon Prime Video latest updates. Only by reverting to very old apk versions am I able to use it with HMDI connection.
Any ideas ,
Thanks
I tried everything and downloaded one from Galaxy app store as well. It still doesn't work on my note 8. Please help. I just bought a one year subscription
Just checked casting, get sound but no video. b.s. copyright sh*t !?
Older version worked casting to chrome cast. But using screen mirroring to Samsung TV got video, but audio on phone not tv, which might be nice for night time viewing.

Works fine on my Note 8.
I just got the Note 8 and Prime Video only works about half the time. The other half, it spins like it's loading but never loads. The interesting thing is that all other video streaming apps become unresponsive as well (Hulu, YouTube, ect) after Prime Video. Any solutions so far? I'm using version 3.0.205.34141
I'm in the same situation as the OP. I eventually got HDMI-out working on my Galaxy S8 (5-yr old phone) with a very old prime video APK, and possibly (I can't remember) doing the file rename mentioned at this XDA thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/amazon-prime-video-decryption-failure.3603573/page-2
2 problems:
A.) When mirroring to a TV via HDMI on the Galaxy S8 (phone), the resolution and color of the video playing are worse on the TV than on the phone (example, I'll have downloaded full HD content, like 4GB for a movie, and it will look fantastic (like 1080P or better) playing on the phone, but looks noticeably worse (like 240p or maybe 480) on the TV. .... because of this, I purchased Samsung's newest tablet, with confirmed HDMI-out ability.
B.) So, on the Galaxy Tab S8 (Tablet --latest samsung tablet in 2022), I'm getting the "decryption_error" message as soon as I connect to a TV via HDMI cable. I don't plan to root it, so can't rename that file referred to in the other thread..
Questions:
1. Are others seeing the poor resolution after going to the trouble of getting HDMI-out working? (as in #A above).
2. Did others have any luck fixing the "decryption error" by changing to a newer HDMI cable? (changing cables sounds fishy, and this answer found elsewhere on the internet is the amazon helpdesk equivalent of 'reboot the computer')
Please let me know. I may go to the trouble rooting the tablet, but only if others have gotten HDMI-out at full, HD/UHD resolution to a TV.
