Flashing ICS Updates - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
This will sound a stupid question, i have flashed SpeedMod Kernal (K3-3) how to i go about flashing a ROM also?
I know most ROMS say how to perform but SpeedMod says no CWM or CIN9 roms?
Anyone help.

What I did:
1. Flash Stock ROM 2.3(choose your country from the Stock Rom topic) with Odin 3
2. Root your device
3. Install CWM
4. Install safe ROM (CM9 as example)

Nothing stupid about the question, but it doesn't belong in Development. I've moved it to Q&A. Please be more careful about where you post

So what ROM are you on now with the speedmod kernel? Stock ICS?
What ROM do you want to go to?

Currently on latest UK ICS 4.0.3 (Offical) rom from Samsung Kies software. Sorry should have stated before not on 2.3.6 anymore.
Any suggestions?

Okay, flash the Speedmod kernel in CWM. This puts you on a safe kernel with stock ICS.
Now, you can flash a CM9 variation of a rom or aokp or one of the other ICS roms that use samsung base.
Edit:
After you flash speedmod, boot up your phone and check settings, about phone, and make sure the kernel is speedmod. Let your phone settle for a little bit, maybe charge if it needs to.

[Q] 2.3.3 base firmware ROM?

can anyone tell me which ROM uses 2.3.3 gingerbread firmware as a base firmware of any ROM in this forum?? i tried reading but had a hardtime figuring out which one of those uses a 2.3.3 firmware as a base of the ROM?
do the darky's rom uses 2.3.3 base firmware??
hi
just read OP of every rom in DEV forum it will tell you what that rom is built on
regards
Are you asking about which ROM is flashable through ODIN, so that you can install a custom ROM directly without the need of installing a stock base ROM?

SGS is flying. It is very close to stock rom. I tried Darky's rom RC5, but could not match with Simply Honey in quadrant score.
All the roms that have 2.3.3 or the word Gingerbread in the post heading are what you want .

"1) Follow This guide to install GB Bootloaders: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1047924
2) Make sure you have first done a nandroid total backup and a backup of your apps with Titanium Backup
3) Install via Odin a Modded Kernel (like SpeedMod or Damian)
it says on the simply honey instruction that i have to install a kernel?? ahm, which kernel is that faster or the best kernel in your opinions? my phone is so i dont need to backup anything does it matter installing the rom?? what are bootloaders for? sorry for noob questions. im totally new on this phone. just making sure everything goes well to avoid bricking my phone.
there are too many ROM that use 2.3.3.....
example: JUWE(my favourite), simply honey, darky, MIUI n others........

Help with jv rom versions.

Hi
I currently have an vodafone unlocked galaxy running bujv9 rom. and cf-root XWJVH kernel. phone is rooted.
I been looking at kernels which support voodoo sound and other stuff as my one does not.
How do i go from a jvh rom and kernel to say a jvr kernel and rom which supports the voodoo stuff.
Is it a simple wipe then CWM flash new rom then odin jvr kernel. or other way around. Not sure.
Sorry still learning galaxy flashing. well different from HTC flashing.
Cheers.
If you want to try latest rom and a kernel with all features flash stock JVS in odin and then flash Darkcore 4 or Semaphore 1.7 in odin

Your desired rom should have kernel so no need for flashing twice.
You will probably get away with factory reset and cwm flash. Any probs you may have to flash stock first.

There are apps that will do this, but may not work properly (depending on a lot of things). If you're unsuccessful with the app, or if you'd rather another way, the main to go about it is to flash a kernel that is already rooted.
Thanks for your reply, my problem is that i can't find the right cf-root kernal and also because phone locked to network my build number is bujv9,
Flash the stock jvX that you want first then flash the kernel from odin as pda, safe way

[Q] how to safe flash a rom ? Ics stunner -> CM

hi everyone
i'm on ics stunner 1.4.26.1 and baseband (i9220ZCLP5) and kernel (3.0.15-i9220ZCLP6) and i want to flash a cyanogenmod rom but how to do that if i'm on affected kernel right ?
please help me guys
You have the affected kernal all i did was flashed a stock gb rom using pc odin and then started all over again but never use the leaked repack again if i was you i would just flash stock gb rom then root and flash recovery and then try the offical ics update before going to cm9 !

Go all the way back to GB first.
PC Odin one of the pre-rooted GB Roms.
Then go to Chainfires CF-Root thread and download the corresponding kernel
(i.e. if you flashed LC1 Rom, download LC1 CF-Root kernel) and flash it through
Mobile Odin to inject CWMR.
Reboot and let the Rom settle.
Download CM9 and Gapps.
Reboot into CWMR.
Flash CM9, flash Gapps.
Do a full wipe (factory reset/cache/dalvik)
Reboot and enjoy.

Sorry, unable to help you there with anything concrete. My Note never behaved
like that, neither on GB nor on ICS.
But I know that similar graphic issues affect a number of Notes. There's a longish
thread in General about it, with gazillion posts.
It seems that some Notes are more affected by graphic driver glitches (if that
causes it?) than others.

[Q] What do I flash first, kernel or rom?

The question is really in the title, what do I flash first when upgrading from darky froyo to ICS, the kernel or the rom?
Thanks!

Follow instructions for the particular ROM you want to flash
They usually don't mention the kernel, only the rom :/

The kernel is pretty much always included in the.zip, if you want to change from the ROM kernel to another, then usually just a case of using a cleaning script, or manually clearing cache/dalvik and a couple of others (init.d & Ns tools usually) and flash away
upgrade 2.2 to ics
You have to burn GB stock-rom 2.3 with odin first !!!
after you finish you need gb kernel like semaphore 1.8 also burn with odin (give the stock root).
and finnely flash the ics rom you wont (with the dev Specific rom Guidelines)

Afaik you don't need gb bootloader to flash to ics, (see slim website) however it is a good idea to in case you want to revert to gb, but in that case it is easier just to flash the boot loader....see nitr8s ezboot thread
Hi, I know it's been a really long time of the thread but what I know ALWAYS FLASH THE ROM FIRST AND THEN THE KERNEL

[Q] How do I get off of Stunner ROM 1.6.26?

Looks like the Stunner ROM thread is dead here. I'm on stunner rom 1.6.26 (kernel version3.0.32-CM-g12ef675) and I want to get on another rom. What all do I have to do in order to get off of Stunner rom safely? What roms would you recommend that I move too and why?

You are on safe kernel so can flash custom roms directly using cwm. But to avoid any issue best is to flash pre-rooted GB rom using odin and then flash any custom rom you like.
My personal fav are Kingdroid, Criskelo and there is no why, I like them does not means others will like them too, it's just matter of personal choice as all roms are almost equally good .

Thanks for the reply jeetu1981. Is there a certain Pre Rooted GB ROM that I should use to flash? Or do I download a GB rom and THEN root it? Do I use PC odin or Mobile odin? Seems that since I'm on a safe kernel can I just install a rom using a zip, wiping everything and still be safe? Would that be easier or do you recommend I just flash the GB rom first?

Look at my sig. for pre rooted GB, flash it via odin. For better performance GB is recommended but you can flash any custom rom directly as well (being on safe kernel), try it and if you see any lags or issues in performance then do a fresh flash
And yes, wipe is safe on CM and safe custom TW ics kernels. And I would have directly flashed another rom in this situation

there are two ways..
First
Flash a gb rom or prerooted gb rom via pcodin or mobile odin
Or
As you are on stunner which uses a safe kernel just go to recovery,do wipes, flash rom and reboot.as simple as that...
Cheers
