Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone has tried to hook up an optical drive to the Touchpad, and if so does the Touchpad recognize it?

I think we'd need a USB host port for that like we need for when someone wants to connect a ps3 controller to the touchpad.....are those kind of kernels even available yet? I didn't think so

I haven't done it, but I've read that you can, as long as you can supply it with power.
USB host can be achieved via OTG adapter and Y-cable for power.

Hi,
I want to know if there is a way that I can see my nexus one on the TV. Or if not that, atleast show videos like from YouTube. I can only play audio.
Please help me. My TV has no USB port, but I have a USB thingy connected to my TV through HDMI.

Remote control your Nexus from your PC, and connect your PC to the TV.
But then why would you need Nexus...
I'm afraid it's not possible... the only thing you could do is this.
afaik, the only device through which you can do something like that is desire HD, since it features a mini-HDMI port.
You can't connect it the conventional way, since there's no HDMI port...but you could try through the USB cables
Btw, the Desire HD does not have a HDMI port, but the Evo 4G does.

There is no way to do HDMI mirroring without HDMI support built into the phones hardware, and unfortunately, the N1 lacks any ability to output video to anywhere other than the display on the phone.
What behelit was talking about is using a DLNA server on your device, which will allow you to have your music, videos, and pictures available for people to view over your local network with any DLNA compatible device. All while being wireless. Many newer Samsung and Sony TVs support this, along with a lot of their BluRay players (including other manufacturers) along with the PS3 and the XBox 360. Essentially it works like a dvd player where you will have menus and can pause and rewind and all that fun stuff.
I believe the usb host thread has examples of people using an external monitor, but I don't think the usb output is HDMI...
The USB host thread has people using external USB2HDMI adapter, which gets the output sent for it by the device driver in the OS.
No way to do anything like it without modifying the OS to have USB host capability to begin with. Or building a special external USB host and drivers.

You could try and find a N1 Desktop Dock on eBay and use the mini-HDMI adaptor on that.
I found this item on Ebay - OTG Micro USB Host All In One Card Reader For Samsung S2 i9100 i9300 i9220 i9250
(search for item # 390452881730)
it seems like it should work assuming you have stickmount installed. Anyhow have an adapter like this?
I was going to get the regular cable - but thought this would have the sd card reader built into the cable and could be handy to only have to carry one cable (vs multiple cables/adapters)
It claims to be for the Galaxy S2/3 so it should work fine. It still needs a cable so I can't see where the advantage lies over an otg cable and usb stick card reader, that said it's cheap so go for it.
So hold on, this adapter would still need the otg cable? The description says it is an otg built in... not sure I follow you.

It doesn't need an otg cable it plugs right in to your phone/tablet. This is what I have been looking for for so long man thanks for finding it! I do photography and this is gonna be so awesome to sort photos from a shoot without having cables everywhere and movies on long flights. Double thanks for you!

i gotta get one of these to stuff in my camera bag for work, thanks for the idea !
When I said it needs a cable I meant it connects to the tablet by a cable, not an otg. I'm going by the images in the eBay auction which seem to show a micro usb socket on the back. If that's the case I can't really see the advantage, as I said ^
Looking at the images, one would think that if your N7 is in just about any case you wouldn't be able to connect this easily. I'll stick with a cable...

hey Karl0ss,
have you bought this item and tried it? I was just about to order one - but you if have one and it didn't work - I will keep looking for another option. Please let us know
The razr i has only got a micro usb port you probably know...
Somewhere i heard it would be possible via an adapter to get hdmi signal out of this port...
Can soneone guide me to one of those adapters or is one already shipped with the device?
Thanks

One is not shipped with the device, but if the USB does support HDMI out that would be fun to try for inclusion in other mods.
You'll need to know if the razr i is MHL compliant. If not you should not be able to have HMDI output on the microUSB.
If so, you'll just need a MHL adaptator, something like this:

Mattlgroff are you going to buy one?
I am not sure where i heard it...

EDIT: Cancelled.
Apparently it doesn't work on the M, so I'd be surprised if it worked on the i. It will be cool if it does, though.
it does haves a dock app do ,and somewhere in manual and info papers that comes with the phone, you can read several statements that point to a dock port

Hi Robert,
Do you own a PS3, XBox or Apple Tv????
The reason I ask is because if you download app called 'DoubleTwist' from google play store this consolidates all of your music and videos into one application instead of having seperate apps for each.... Once you have this downloaded and all your content on you can download there paid app called 'AirTwist' for double Twist.
once you have these 2 seetings you can wirelessly send your videos and music over any wifi network to a Playstation 3, Apple Tv or Xbox and no need to have cables lying round and probably costs the same if not less than buying the cable!
Hope this helps and if so please don't forget to press the Thanks Button on the left under my user name
Hey guys, any idea if this will work? Saw some otg with power from ebay. Read in nexus 7 forum that they were able to do it, was hoping it will also work with our device, but i think they used a custom kernel to be able to work, does stock samsung kernel supports this?

Sad to say it didnt work for me, i think we need to compile the kernel to enable it and make our own cable by adding 40.2k ohm resistors on ID pin

I tried my 1tb western digital passport and it doesn't even power.
Flash drives work fine. Using stock kernel BTW.

I am not an expert on the subject but maybe its the lack of power. Try a powered usb hub or something if possible. Again I am no expert but usb 3.0 compatible devices usually make use of the extra power allotment to be "self powering" unlike in usb 2.0. So I am guessing it is a power issue.

keep in mind that must be partitioned as FAT in order to see the content of the drive via OTG. i don't think NTFS is supported. i hear there are custom modded kernels for samsung phones that support NTFS but that's not the case with regular kernels

I've got a 2.5" ToughDrive and the OTG cable I have won't supply enough juice to power that.
The cable works fine with USB pen drives but that's it.
I haven't found an OTG cable that had a power input to support more power-hungry drives.
