[Q] Best way to fix emmc - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hay,
sorry to start another thread about this. I have been searching through the possible fix's for my gnote with the emmc problem.
Ill explain my situation. Im not exactly sure what i did wrong. I made sure to install abyss kernel and reboot recovery. wiped data and caches and installed new rom(paranoidandroid). So this is my problem. I keep getting failed attempts to do something. So i went back into recovery to try and reinstall rom and says emmc not found. I can still boot into the rom. But cannot do some tasks. It still functions as a phone and all that.
So was wondering if i should just stick to what i have, minor issues so far, or try one of the fixes.
help is greatly appreciated
cheers

EMMC meaning the microSD card?

yeh, cant access photos or music thats on there so im guessing it is the internal storage. when i try to go to install zip from sd in cwm it says emmc not found.
Ive only had the phone for a week. is it best to reset counter and flash another rom if i can and take it in and get warranty.

Flash Abyss kernel boot into its recovery and try to install any gb roms and see wat happens

[Q] "Unavailable" SD card?

I was out today, minding my own business.
In the middle, my phone just shut off. Restarting it, it would not boot past the kernel boot screen, not even into CWM. When I got home, I oneclicked it to stock in an attempt to return to my nandroid CM7 from right before the full-9 package was released. I encountered an issue.
CWM3 said "Error: Can't mount /sdcard". Booted the phone up in JF6, and the storage menu shows both my External and internals reading with total and available space as "Unavailable", and both the mount and format options on both are greyed out. Internal phone storage is normal, however, and reads 1.73GB.
Don't ask me to flash Froyo or something. Standard 2e recovery does not allow me to use a ROM Manager flashable CWM2, thus I cannot flash Froyo or CM7's package. CM7's initial kernel returns the "Can't mount /sdcard" error, so that's also inadequate.
So, anyone have any idea what I'm dealing with here? How would I be able to go about fixing it? If it helps, my IMEI number and all that jazz is still present.
EDIT: I just realised a perplexing quality. The phone will ONLY boot with an external SD in it... Doesn't matter if I remove it after, it just needs an external in it to boot. Once the phone boots, it's dead weight. Funny, as I always flash without it in there...
EDIT2: Found some info from Supercurio on the Bell Vibrant while searching, I wonder if this is relevant...
supercurio said:
On #project-voodoo IRC I helped a user who had issues with his SDcard on a Bell I9000M
Turns out that his internal SD MoviNAND chip was dead!
The system automatically used his external SD as a backup for /data, as the "mmcblk1" device become "mmcblk0".
The internal SD was so dead that the Linux Kernel didn't detected any existence of it anymore.
The symptom that the phone was working (using the external SD) but he couldn't mount his SD card anywhere.
Eventually he had a replacement from Bell in a few days.
What killed the sdcard ? An old Ext2 lagfix when creating the giant 1GB+ loop files.
But it wasn't the lagfix fault. It just acted as accelerator.

But I've never used that lagfix. I've been on Speedmod then CM7 the entire time.
Maybe flash a kernel with CWM in it, such as speedmod with Odin though I'm clueless as to what happened to your phone. I guess do this, flash a new ROM go from there... Sorry this is my only idea.

Already said, CWM returns "Can't mount /sdcard" in CM7's CWM3 from the initial kernel... I can't flash Froyo, so Speedmod is out of the question.
Thread moved.
I'd try flashing a full odin stock rom and a .pit with it with repartition checked. I heard someone else with this sort of problem, he used odin one click but still got the same thing, flashed stock gb with a .pit and it worked.

Did not work; tried flashing JH7, KB1 and JF6, all 3 do not boot past the kernel screen. Only OCD JF6 gets the phone in a working way. I found some other threads, but it's looking worse and worse by the second.
ATT is probably getting a call tomorrow...
Same happened to me, I managed to get JI6 working somewhat. Flash the one click ODIN JI6, wait till bootanimation ends, ROM will not boot up completely so go back into download mode, then flashed speedmod with three button ODIN, let boot up complete then go into recovery and delete user data, wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Still don't have an mnt/sdcard but at least I can make a phone call.
Also, I lost data connection so I had to manually enter APN in settings, wireless and networks, mobile networks, Access point names and create a new APN, I just googled AT&T APN for the values.
Hope it works out as I'm probably going to contact AT&T as well.
I had that happen kinda with "cognadian bacon" it fried my sd card and I flashed odin one click then master cleared in odin. After that I booted up and got my format option back ..... If that doesn't work you could probably hook it to computer (windows) and go under device management and format from there but don't know if will support fat32.. Just a suggestion though.... That what I did for my external sd when it wouldn't recognize it

[Q] Challenging technical issue

I have a problem and i would be very thankful if anyone could help me solve it:
I looked around the guides here and on youtube and found out that installing a custom rom is much better than sticking with the original gingerbread, so that's what i did. I tried RocketRom for a while and decided that i want to try checkrom to see which is better. So i downloaded the rom, performed all the wipes (cache, dalvik and battery stats) and reset the phone to factory. However due to my immense stupidity i forgot to put the rom on the internal phone memory and i saved it on my microsd card instead. so now i'm stuck: I can't access my internal phone memory because my phone won't start (either bootloops or it shows the boot animation once and then a black screen with nothing on it). And i wasn't able to use CWM to flash the rom using my microsd card because it keeps giving me the error "unable to mount". I looked around again and read that i should format the microsd card but nothing changed and i kept getting the same error.
So this is basically it. Is there a way to access the internal phone memory with my phone turned off? If not, what should i do? I just need to paste the damn rom but i couldn't figure out what to do :S
Any suggestions will be very very appreciated, and thank you for your cooperation

Seems like you have issues with CWM as I can access the external sd card without problems..
I think that your only solution is to:
-flash a pre-rooted GB ROM from THIS thread
- Use Chainfire's corresponding kernel to the ROM you flashed so you can get CWM recovery, get it from HERE
- after having both rooted ROM and the CWM recovery transfer the ROM you want to the sd card and flash it from CWM Recovery
Hope this helps
thanks
Thank you for the prompt reply, but i am still quite confused: how can i flash a rom if my phone does it boot? how will i get the rom to the phone memory? Remember the microsd card isn't working so i can't use it for flashing.

Help! Meday!! Phone Reboots into cwm

Hi All,
I am in desperate need of help.
I have a nexus s. rooted, with cyanogenmod kernel and slimbean rom.
My friend has a galaxy s1 that had unrooted froyo.
A friend of his rooted it, and put gingerbread on it. I wanted to put slimbean on it for him.
I did so.
Except, that his mobile network wouldnt connect.
I googled, and found that this could be because the kernel is not compatible with the rom.
So I downloaded cyanogenmod kernel and flashed.
But this didnt work, because I think the download was corrupted or something.
I tried to re boot into clockwork, but it just got stock on the first loading screen.
Since then I have tried everything and have been googling for hours... I dont know what to do. I have tried so many different things.
Please can some guru help me figure out what to do?
My friend is pissed as hell at me, I told him it will be painless quick and easy. Thats how it was for me and i assumed same for him.
PLEASE!! I need HELP!! :'(
Edit: I reflashed semaphore and it now goes into cwm. But now when I flash the rom and reboot it, it just reboots automatically into cwm again. Anyone know where to go from here?
Thanks in advance,

It appears to be a bootloop. That means flashing messed with boot partition and you have to reflash boot. Is this phone i9000 or i9001?
Search for similar topics like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590747
If you can get to CWM or download mode nothing bad happend - you can repair everything, however it would be wise if you had backup of previous, working ROM
Calm down its fixable first you try to fix it without Odin by
- flashing slim bean again don't forget full wipe flash i9000.zip twice the first time it will reboot half way through at least it did for me
-then pull out the battery and boot into cwm
- flash both slim bean files
- this should get the phone starting again after that to get network working flash this file in cwm http://www.mediafire.com/?fbgxblhbip7bkuv it should get network running credit goes to pwneman for that
Let me know how it goes

Try to format your sdcard in fat32 filesystem (through Windows/CWM or any other various ways if this won't work)
Also try other sdcard...
If formatting card doesn't fix the problem try to reflash CWM via Odin in Download mode.
ok i did a hard reset and left batt out for a good few min and got the sdcard back again.
i followed the steps u said latrop and it didnt fix it... still booted back into cwm...
since i now have the sdcard back i am making a backup zip file of it just in case lol
@divibyzero
i followed that post but it didnt fix the problem
OK you will have to flash with Odin I'll get back to you with instructions

Wait, before you odin flash:
Let me get this straight, your rom .zip is on your external sd card? it has to be in your internal sd card.
From the recovery main menu, go to mounts & storage. From there, plug in your phone to your computer and select "Mount internal USB storage."
You'll be able to then copy the rom file into your internal sd card. While you're at it, I'd recommend X-Bean, as it's currently faster and more stable than SlimBean. Then, unmount your phone and return to the recovery menu and select install zip and choose the file you've just copied.
Please let me know how it goes.
@kngroo
thats what i did.. ive flashed tons of roms and kernels before on my nexus s...
its this galaxy s 1 that isnt working for some reason... it was meant to be a quick and painless proceedure which has turned into a nightmare
gonna probably have to format the sdcard now :*(
Hi All,
I wanna give a SERIOUS thank you to latrop.
This guy is a freaking legend. He just sat with me for almost 2 hours helping me sort out the phone. We did almost everything you can think of and then some... But ultimately it was latrops great experience and knowledge that helped save my ass here...
Phone is running full on slimbean rom with great reception etc.
Latrop... you are a legend!!!
Just wipe/factory reset and wipe cache
its work for me and maybe it would work with you too

did i just get the emmc-bug?

sorry if this has been asked, tried looking around but couldnt find anything looking like my problem.
this morning i updated to beerbongs paranoid android 3.00, and after that i couldnt see my sd-cart, so i thought that was the problem. but after looking around for a bit it seems that its actually emmc thats gone missing. phone still boots though (sometimes after a couple of tries though).
anyway, i used emmc brickbug check and it saying theres no problem. i tried another checker where you use a .zip in recovery, which also stated that there are no problems. but i cant mount emmc in recovery or in android. sd-card can be found in recovery, and in android when using es file explorer.
do i have a softer version of the emmc brickbug, or whats going on here? how can i fix this, if at all?
May be rom flash was not right or this is a bug.. Don't know. This rom is RC so... Try flashing the rom again using proper format commands.

ive tried installing an older version. i tried installing it again. i tried a backup. i tried installing another kernel. nothing seem to work.
Nothing seem to work?
What does that mean? You can't install or can mount the emmc on any?
Try going back to stock rom and check. Do not wipe on stock is kernels.

installing works just fine, but i cant get emmc back up. havent tried going back to stock yet, since im not yet 100% clear on how i do this without messing things up more (reading up on it though).
Try flashing this already rooted Gingerbread ROM from Dr.Ketan http://d-h.st/HJM and then you can do full wipe on it and later flash the ROM you want..
Its probably easier than going to ICS stock then flashing safe kernel and then the ROM you want..

[q] galaxy note froze during a jelly bean upgrade. Internal memory corrupt. Bricked?

hey guys
my sister was attempting to flash a jelly bean rom on her galaxy note which was running a stock ICS rom at the time and it froze during the process it froze.
it now shows a yellow triangle and refuses to boot.
i attempted booting into recovery and flashing a new rom.
i tried to do a full wipe first, but the phone freezes. i booted into recovery mode again and cleared the cache. however when i tried to wipe the davlik cache, i got an error message but it proceeded anyway.
when i try to go ahead and flash the new rom it fails.
i suspect the internal memory is corrupt. what should I do?

You might be able to repartition the device with Odin, you will have to wait for a more experienced member of XDA though, I don't know all the steps to repartition the device andI wouldn't like to get your Note in worse condition. But even after repartitioning you will only be able to run slim ROM's - such as slim bean.

Thanks for the help. I'll try repartitioning. I don't know how so I'll google it. But even stock roms wouldn't run? and what's a slim rom?
Basically a very lightweight ROM. Slim Bean is only about 95MB + 25MB for the google apps which you have to flash too.
Here is a link to the ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060391
You might also be able to run slim versions of TouchWiz (that is the what you get from Samsung). SlimWizz is about 187MB but that will probably be too much.
That may be a softbrick "only". Are you able to get into Download mode? (Volume Down + Home + Power button) If so, you'll be able to flash an official ROM with PC Odin.
Out of curiosity, what procedure did you follow to flash your Jelly Bean ROM? Directly from the stock ICS recovery?

sorry for the late reply. i do not know how my sister tried to flash the jelly bean rom. there have been some interesting developments. i obtained a kernel which has enabled me to boot into recovery mode. the problem now is that the note recognises my internal sd as an external sd and vice versa! any help?

I guess you have flashed the Speedmod kernel/recovery. Then internal (emmc) and external (micro SDcard) are swapped (that's "normal"). So formatting emmc will format the external SD card and formatting external sd-card will format the internal storage. You just need to be aware of this (if you fear you might lose your data in your SD card, simply remove it from the phone before wiping).
Do a full wipe and then follow the procedure detailed in the thread of the ROM you want to flash. Or if you don't know what to do, just get into Download mode as I explained above and flash an official TouchWiz ROM through Odin PC (you can check Dr Ketan's thread here: everything is nicely detailed. Don't forget to hit the Thanks button on his first post as he's really helpful with people).

That sucks. It seems you've been a victim of the emmc_CAP_ERASE bug. It's a shame you don't remember how you came to this. Anyway, one of the best solutions in this situation is to send your Note to the service center. The problem here is you have that yellow triangle which will void your warranty (if you still have one). Unless someone has a better idea, I think you have 3 possibilities:
1) Use the PIT file method. That will partition your internal storage card. Don't hesitate to ask questions in the thread if you need. You'll find people to help you.
2) Use a JIG USB key to remove the triangle before sending your device to the service center for repair. You'll find one for a few euros on eBay.
3) Try the JTAG.
To be honest, I haven't tried any of these methods as I've always been careful when flashing stuff. Good luck!

I tried this and it worked! I repartitioned the internal memory and flashed a custom rom. I'm now running Cyanogenmod 10.1.
HOWEVER, the phone freezes randomly and sometimes would even be unable to boot into recovery mode so i have to start the whole process again. Any thoughts
