Root SGNote on stock ICS without any yellow triangle - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Android Development

Reference
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
My salutes to dr.Ketan for putting up this simple and effective method. This method gives root until the phone is re-booted. Cf-root is the only best permanent root method and his latest cf-root kernels are safe also. Bt still RISK IS ALL YOURS PERSONALLY.
I just extended dr.ketan's method into permanent rooting without any yellow triangle. This works on all ICS-STOCK ROMs.
Step by step method :
Requirements :
1) Use dr.ketan's su+busybox root and cwm to get a temporary root.
2) Check your stock kernel from settings--»about and check your kernel version.
3) Download cf-root kernel from chain-fire's post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
Download from lower post to get the safe kernels
4) After downloading .zip extract it to .tar to zimage and save it to your /sdcard
5) From market download hc-ktool
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool&hl=en
Procedure :
1) Flash Samsung stock ICS ROM.
Or
ICS factory made SGNote
2) Power of the Note.
3) Press volume-up+menu+power combo buttons to reboot into c3 recovery.
4) Install temporary root as per dr.ketan method.
5) Reboot the Note.
6) Go to hc-ktool and use flash zimage(which is already extracted from cf-root kernel) from /sdcard and then reboot the Note from reboot menu in hc-ktool.
Your SGNote is now permanently rooted.
Follow every step carefully. If you go wrong then its your SGNote which will go to bricks!!!!!

WHY ? Root isn't temporary, only cwm it is, with Dr. Ketan's method ...
And everybody knows how to flash a cf kernel without triangle afterwards.

hmm just another repost of a sticky...anything else new here mate?

k. am downgrading Firmware to KL3 , and i need procedure. but mainly it should not effect binary counter.
It's not possible to root LA4 directly at the moment, so you'll need to downgrade your device first:
- Download a firmware that's rootable from here.
- Download Odin from the link provided above
- Enter "Download Mode" on your device by shutting your Note completely off, then press and hold Volume Down + Home button + Power button
- Start Odin
- Unzip the firmware (the zip file you just downloaded), and you'll end up with a md5-file
- Go to Odin and click "PDA" and choose the md5-file
- Press "Start"
- Wait
- Done
Now you can root the device and get CWM, so go to this thread and do the "I Want ROOT + CWM" at the end of the first post.
- After you're rooted download LA4 again from the first link in this post
- Transfer it to your Note
- Open CWM on your Note
- Flash it
Done. You now have a rooted LA4.

No it won't.
Just make 1 thing clear. binary count raise only, If you flash any custom ROM/Kernel with PC Odin.
Follow LordManhattan's advise and still once refer Installation guide in detail in post #2 n 3 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Just to add, Downgrade Firmware shud be direct rootable. (before KL7), N if particularly i specify, I can say Downgrade first to indian ROM KL1, I have flashed this ROM in at least 5 Notes.
That means Flashing Custom ROM using CWM doesn't effect Binary Count rite??
if you flash using CWM or mobile odin it wont if you do using oding from PC it will still not sure about official firmware

Yep, this is what I did after going through Dr. Ketans post. I now have rooted LA4 , but my CWM app and recovery is only partial. I do not have option to do backup/restore on CWM on LA4. Is it a universal problem? Any ideas?

Hey,
Dr.Ketan, can you tell me please if there is a chance to root the original LA4 (never changed rom) if I don't have access to a Windows and only to a Mac?
I only want to root it for the basic tweaks and apps. Don't need a custom rom at the moment. I want to root it and use it as is while I wait for the official ICS.
Thanks.
There is no Queston of window or Mac,LA4 is non rootable, to get root, first u need to downgrade older rom.

Thanks. I got ahead of the events. I didn't meant that. I meant if I can do the procedure of downgrading and everything I might need to do in order to root or to install a custom rom or another stock using ONLY my Samsung Note and a Mac.
Q1: I can downgrade using a exclusively a Mac with Lion on it?
Q2: If the answer to Q1 is affirmative, can I root it after downgrade also using only Lion on Mac?
Thanks again!
I have never heard mac pc odin. Plz google for it. So without pc odin you cant downgrade.
Yes there was review i read, got root with mac. You just read my thread how to root...(u may find from my signature), i remember i have post a link somwhere, how to root using mac.

Yes, I saw there was one root with mac solution, but works only if the Note is rootable. LA4 is not. So I must downgrade first. )))))
Nevermind, I'll try to do it with Windows, somehow. Thanks!
I am also new to this, and this thread is very clear. The bit I do not understand is what Kernal I should be running. Custom roms available can have a variety of kernals e.g LA3, LA4 etc. Do i have to choose a rom that has a kernal compatible with my phone? is there some rational to running one kernal vs another? I notice that it may be possible to flash a rom and keep a previous kernal e.g a CF kernal. is this advisable? your advice would be very welcome.
You don't need to flash a new kernel. Most of the custom ROMs includes a custom kernel that's good enough, but if you're interested in testing a few of them then you can do it without any problems.

Now is when I am lost. I did all the above (thanks, by the way) and I run KKA now. I had LA4 (Germany) when bought it, then downgraded to root.
Now I am rooted but when I try to update firmware with CWM, nothing happens. I have to put the ZIP in the Note or the MD5? I tried with the MD5 two times.
Is there something I do wrong? Is any other method apart from CWM? I mention that when I downgraded and first booted, CWM said something about "not being compatible and some functions were disabled".
Any ideas?
EDIT:
I couldn't work it out as expected and I went back to my original LA4 (Germany).

How to upgrade from Rocket Room v23 to ROCKET ROM v1 ICS XXLPY?

I read the instruction already but this one make me confuse
==> there have been reported problems with a constantly rebooting system when doing installation coming from a GB-ROM as posted above! So the safe and 100% successful way is installing LPY Stock-ROM, root Stock ROM and then go on as described below under point b2). Do not ask for a tutorial on how to install and root LPY Stock ROM....it is describe enough here in Forum!

So how I get the rooted LPY Stock room first from Rocket Room V23 and not increase the counter and yellow triangle?
Thank you
I'm sure there's plenty of guides on this forum explaining what you should do, the way I did; I was on CM9, I used Odin on my computer to flash the original firmware from Samsung back to the Note, then I rooted it, installed mobileOdin, flashed the German ICS firmware with root, and at last I did a factory reset and deleted cache/dalvik cache.
Always remember that there is a chance that you brick your phone when you are flashing the firmware.
Because there are so many ways to do it so I don't know which way is the best.
I just want some real successfully experience from people that running Rocket Room V23 to Rocket room V1 ICS
Start cleanly like i did.
1. Pc odin a rootable GB rom
2. Root the GB rom
3. Mobile odin stock LPY keeping everroot and mobile odin
4. Make sure you still kept root, otherwise follow the guide on how to inject super user via temporary Cwm (lots of thread on this)
5. Get the cf-cwm for lpy and flash the Zimage kernel via mobile odin
6. Reboot to cwm
7. Wipe cache. Wipe dalvik cache. ONLY. NEVER DO A FULL WIPE ON LPY CWM!!!!
8. Install rocketrom ics
You may skip steps 1 and 2 since like you, i was on rocketrom v23
Zapped through server hops to XDA forums

I have a note for UAE region. The latest stock kernel is LPD.
I want to root my phone but i could not find a way yet. And i do not want to change my whole rom. Just want to flash a new rooted kernel.
Could you please show me a way to evoercome my problem, pls?

Does LPF count the closest?
Is it not dangerous?
There are two methods for doing this:
============================
Method #1:
Use rooting method provided by dr.ketan "the rooting part only" (click here)
Then install Mobile Odin Pro from the market... Then flash any custom kernel by Mobile Odin Pro (suggestion SpeedMod k3-3 kernel)
By doing these steps, you will have root and CWM recovery in the end
Method #2:
You can just install SpeedMod k3-3 kernel by PC Odin without a need for dr.ketan method and you will end up having root and CWM recovery in the end; but I don't know if this is going to increase binary count in download mode or not... So the safest is to go through the first method mentioned..
Cheers

(q) stock isc with speedmod kernel

Hi.. i'we done odin flash on my N7000 form GB to ISC xxlq3 (slo) and than i flashed speedmod kernel over it..
but i didn't root it before.. because on the official speedmode page doesn't say it needs to be rooted before
can I safely downgrade with dr.ketan tut??? or can i flash chainfire's CF-Root-SGN_XX_SEB_LQ3-v5.6-CWM5 over speedmod
and yes i also have 0x19 bug
help needed :good:
thank you
If you have flashed speedmod via PC Odin, means your phone is already rooted. It comes with speedmod. You should see Superuser app on your app drawer. No worries for now. Next step, you might like to search for 'yellow triangle'.
Take it easy. One step at a time, otherwise you will be overwhelmed.
PS: I did my rooting the same way as you did, with GB at that time. It was my first custom flashing business
Don't worry !! You can use the root validator to check for root. If things are good you can start you flashing sessions. Else you can use Dr.Ketan's rooting for ICS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26455511&postcount=2475. Just a simple process. Cherios. :good:

[KERNEL] SpeedMod N7000 ICS [K3-7 CWM CIFS ROOT / NO-ROOT]
also when i boot in recovery in main menu look like samsung recovery and when i enter some of the menus the CWM logo appears
hope its not bricked
Just follow dr.ketan's guide in the link above. Could be your speedmod flashing was unsuccessful. Can you check again in Settings -> About phone -> Kernel version?
hope this is last question

1. for dr.ketan guide should i start from scratch or just the rooting part???
2. I've tried after speedmod kern, to re flash just the cwm but it hangs on the install???? haven't try the cwm.zip from dr.ketan??? should I???
sorry i'm noob
For your LQ3, you should follow dr.ketan's guide. Possibly due to low memory in system partition in LQ3, the new files for rooting (busybox, superuser, su binary) could not be injected. Start afresh, learn something new. Everybody was once a noob before

[Q] Runnig ICS 4.0.4 Stock [HELP][ROOT]

Hello everyone, I've just bought my N7000, I used to have a LG P500, then a Xperia Sola, and now my amazing GALAXY NOTE !!!!
I'm reading a lot getting the info needed to get into this device and I find particulary confusing the rooting stuff.
I have found this tutorial by dr.ketan
[24sept12]How to Root/Unroot Samsung Galaxy Note + CWM
BUT acording to this thread by dr.ketan this method is dangerous.... and he says:
Present option to root ICS ROM is
So present option for rooting is - You can select any of one.
1. Short, easy - requires to reset counter
-Download Odin (.tar) version of custom kernel like Notecore, Speedmod, CF root kernel Or other any with same function.
-Flash it using PC odin for PDA tab.
-You will get exclamation mark and raised counter, which can be reset with Triangle Away
2. Long, No raised couter OR Exclamation mark
-Downgrade to Rootable GB ROM and Root it. OR Download This pre rooted GB ROM and flash using PC Odin
-Wipe cache, data and delvic cache from recovery
-Install Mobile Odin Pro
-Copy ICS ROM file in .tar (you want to flash) to Internal SD card (recommended, but you can have it on EXT too)
-Copy one of custom Kernel in .tar file e.g.Notecore, Speedmod, CF root kernel Or other any with same function.
-Open Mobile Odin Pro
-select open file
-Point to ROM file you have copied
-All fiels will popup and feel automatically
-select kernel and point to custom kernel file you have copied
Flash.

It is the easiest and safest method to root your phone
I rooted by flashing a zip file.I think there is a site named galaxynoteroot or rootgalaxynote
Anyway, try to find the site.it has video tutorials too

as RAj says just flash the Philz kernel for the rom build from stock recovery and you will get rooted after a reboot
What about this option? is it safe?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35512626&postcount=1
DUDE
go to Philz stock kernel thread. download the kernel that corresponds to your phone from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
reboot into recovery by doing the 3 finger salute.
flash it. and then reboot.
you are rooted and on a safe kernel.
