To avoid so much trouble just use a swap file.

im a bit confused about this...reformat the sd card 1st or do the steps of partitioning sd card? after partitioning sd card then reformat sd card again?

Do it from CWM recovery. It will format the card and partition it for app2sd and for swap. Just specify what sizes you want. Remember to backup your SD card.

It uses a swap file, not partition, hence there is no need for formatting or repartitioning .

True but its a hassle to just sit there waiting for the swap file to get created, especially if you want large sizes like 256Mb. Its also slower compared to a partition.

It doesn't take that long, and anyway since swap is already so slow the speed difference between partition and file is not much. Plus it is less hassle to create swap file, than repartitioning.

[Q] Partition SD card using CWM recovery

hello guy
i want to ask u all
how can i partition my sd card using cwm?
i can see advanced > partition sd card
if can, can u show how to do it and what to do after done this step?
is it safe?
i want to do it via minitool partition but i do not have sd card reader
i'm using ketut blackhawk dxkt7 rom
You can partition the sd card using CWM recovery.
Be sure to backup your data as in the partition the sd card is formatted.
After selecting partition sd card the first thing you will see is the option to select the size of the partition that you want to make (generally select 1024=1gb).
Next will be the swap size. This is optional.
After selecting these options your sd card will be formatted with a 1gb ext partition.
Hope this helps.

I use CWM partitioning in conjunction with DTA2SD and it's awesome
Herpderp Defy.
I'm with SuperAce609 here. Look into my signature and find the link in which I've thanked him. After partitioning your SD card, the only thing you have to do is install S2E and reboot your SGA after you install any CM7 based Custom ROM. & boom! No matter if you install 100+ apps, you will never be out of internal memory.
use the search option.

Ok, this is my LG Optimus 3D system:
System ROM:1GB
Internal ROM: 1GB
Internal SD Card: 6GB
Ext SD Card: 32GB
I always facing "out of internal memory" problem. So, if I ever partition my SD Card vi CWM, what will change? Which part can be greater in size?

Can't. CWM makes ext3 partition, period.
You'd have to modify cwm to get it to partition in ext4 format.
I found this "4EXTRecovery" interesting for making ext4, just to make sure if anyone use and confirmed it work.

Thanks.
According to my experience.. cwm 5.0.2.6 for galaxy ace makes an ext2 partition.. It doesn't give any other ext option.. I don't know how is it possible to make ext3/4 partition using cwm..
By the way, what's the latest cwm version for galaxy ace ??

[Q] Ext 4 and swap

What is the best way to partition my sd card (8 gb class 4)? I'm using the minicm7 and it has A2SD, i wonder what is the size of the swap and ext4?

128 mb swap

Okay. But like me I partition (you could pass the tutorial?). I seen by cmw of alfs v08a, is it safe?
Last doubt: I think 128 mb low, I can choose 256 mb or is it very risky?

No. Use partition tools software. Backup before format partition you sd card and use sd card reader. 256mb swap its safe but swap no need to that high.

I downloaded MiniTool Partion
What is the order to partition (ext4, swap, fat32)? And as an asset swap?

But as the asset swap (When I write free in terminal emulator is no longer 0, i need to do anything else)?
ext2 - you like
swap- 128mb
i'm not sure ext4 working on all roms, cause in shin mod4 ext4 won't work.......when i try to install a app, phone restarting

Sd-ext worth it?

I just got a new sandisk ultra 16GB class 10 sd card. Is it actually worth partitioning my SD card for swap and increasing internal storage. I hear that the SD card gets corrupted after about 6 months of use after partitioning.
Thanks

Noway it doesn't affect the sd card...maybe swap does coz the card is always getting accessed...and moreover even swap will reduce life only to an extent that you won't even realise it in your period of use...and mostly all memory cards these days have a full 5year warranty...I have the same card..I've used partition wizard tool and created a 512mb ext4 partition and a 128mb Linux swap....and am using psn swapall cm7 kernel with vo1s rom amazingly smooth!!

which method its better, i have a class 10 sd, as for me i dont find difference between psn mod, cronmod and links2sd?
I'm currently using psn swapp all v3, since swap its on internals i think its faster but all other methods work just fine.
Totally worth it!!!!
EXT partition is recommended however SWAP is a bit optional thing, its a much more strain on the card's life.
I use cronmod, its gui free, i like it, does everything by itself in the background, no hassles with setting up link2sd or app2sd.
Yeah absolutely worth it. I wouldnt be able to live without it now.
The ability to install loads of apps is amazing.
You will face an issue with corruption only if the card was of bad quality to begin with.

Noob question sd partition

I'm new here in Nexus One and i was wondering how do you guys partition sd card? I quite dont understand the steps, can someone help me i want to use JB roms but dont have the space for apps, um using an 8gb class10 card and amonRA recovery

The most recommended partition table is:
First partition: FAT32
Second partition: EXT2 or EXT4 without journaling (usually 500 MB should be enough)
Third partition could be for swap, but I think nobody is using in our phones (we have enough memory and zRam helps a bit more).

View this video clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3jX3ARSOi4 for steps to format and partition a SD card using Amon RA recovery. BEFORE YOU FORMAT YOUR SD CARD, YOU NEED TO BACK UP THE CONTENTS TO YOUR PC FIRST BECAUSE EVERYTHING WILL BE WIPED OFF!!! You only need 1GB for your sd-ext partition and no swap. Once you have partitioned the SD card you need to upgrade the ext2 to ext3 then ext3 to ext4.
or install 4ext recovery. using that you can easily partition ur sd. thats the easiest way i guess

Yea. Totally agree with n1newbie. 4EXT Touch is the best recovery out there. I tried partitioning before using CWM, and it was a mess. 4EXT is way more reliable.
