[Q] Google Play Movies working? - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've looked for an answer to this but haven't found anything.
My touchpad is running Classicnerd ICS (06-05-12), I can't get the google play movies app to work because "device is rooted". Even using OTArootkeeper to un-root doesn't help.
My kindle fire is running CM9 (gede-rom 1.35) and I am able to use OTArootkeeper to un-root and google play movies works.
Anyone know of any modifications or other ICS roms on the touchpad that allow google play movies to work?

Same Here Running CM9 Latest Nightly.

Can't you just go to developer options in settings and turn off root from the root access tab?

Google's gotten a bit smarter in that regard. Have you tried any other ROM ? I don't use the movies from Google (I'm in Canada, so it won't let me anyway), but the way I see to test it is to download and flash a couple of other roms (should only take a few mins each time to see). Just do a backup, flash the new one, check the movie, if it doesn't work, restore backup and try a different one.
Wish I could help, but Google doesn't like us Canadians. Half of the apps I want don't work up here anyway.

I wasn't having any luck with classicnerd using dev options or otaroot.
I flashed CM-9 Nightly (06-09-2012) and now using otaroot Google Play movies works! Just for fun I re-flashed classicnerd and only installed OTAroot and play movies-did not work with ota or dev options.
So I'm back to CM-9 nightly but I like it and the movies are working.

If this post helped you don't forget to say thanks!
thats been done if you got yours working what are you running ??
As I don't have a Hulu Plus subscription anymore I can't check but it may be similar to other apps like Google Video and Blockbuster where it detects if you're rooted. An app you can try is "Temp Root Remover" it'll rename SU to MU so other apps can't detect it and when you're done watching you can use it to rename MU back to SU.

Changed LCD Density back to stock, apps still not showing?

So I wanted to get some updates for my apps so I went back to 213 and I still don't see drop box etc and when I search for apps I have installed currently of says they aren't compatible. What do I need to modify to fix?

Try clearing your play store data.

No dice

I was able to get compatibility back after clearing market data and re flashing gapps. I also found out anything but 160 causes that same problem, but 160 works fine.
Try a reboot? Wipe cache, force close the app, and delete app data for the play store. It's really fickle truthfully. I ended up having to flash mine back to stock and use titanium backup to fix everything. If you have a nandroid backup pre-DPI change that should work as well.
Edit: nevermind! Glad you figured it out!

I just had this problem, but I figured out how to fix it...
1. Go to Settings>Apps>Google Play Store and "uninstall updates" and it will say something about installing the original system app...
2. Open the original play store and accept the terms and conditions. (Apps still not working at this point)
3. Download the latest update from somewhere.
4. Install and done...
Your play store should work properly now...

It seems to me they didn’t make any significant changes to the Play Store and looks more like a bug-fixer and small-changes-made kind of update.
not having any official change log from Google's side. So I would say just enjoy the new apk.
get the latest google play store apk 3.8.15
The Play Store updates it self, doesn't it ?
So why creating links ?

When I flashed Cm10 jelly time I have those 3 dots and when I flashed AKOP jelly time I dont have those 3 dots.
they are just the replacement of the MENU button at the bottom.

GB 2.3.7 so I'm guessing you only get the extra options on ICS and JB.. mine looks nearly the same as months back.. no extra options in menu. Nevermind.

You need gapps for it to work. This is also an old version, now on 3.10.10. Why don't you want gapps? It only installs Google services, you can uninstall any unwanted Google apps....

Root - Install Google Play - Unroot

Hello guys and gals,
I was looking over the information for the kindle fire HD 7, and I personally own the Original Kindle fire. Through a bit of work, I was able to root, install the play store, and unroot on my original kindle. This allowed me to have the play store, and run the stock os and retain my prime access.
Is there a method that allows this on the fire hd? If not, is 1mobile.com the app store everyone seems to be using?
There's actually a custom Rom called Kinology that will let you keep access to Amazon Prime and Instant Video. So you can just root and stay rooted, just flash kinology and you're good to go
Edit: oh yes, and you get play store access too. Best of both worlds!
from my Viped out one x
I thought root on the kfhd didn't break prime....
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Yes you lose prime access when rooted. I rooted because i was never gonna watch movies or show on this device. I got it for a gift.

Prime does work on rooted device I'm watching Wrath of Khan right now on it, never had any problem doing so

If you use a CM based ROM you'll lose prime, that's because they don't have the same framework as the amazon ROM, which supports prime. Kinology uses the same framework as the amazon stock ROM, and so with kinology you keep prime.

Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature for rooting the stock ROM. And no, there is no overclock kernel available.

Extras zip? I have not had that available for months. But I do have an Enable Unknown Sources zip if that is what you meant. If you flash that it sets the setting for you.
If you use a third party file manager to install the apk, it should work. If not flash it again.

dude you rock. I just flashed enabled and now I can install other apps. I installed adaway and also blocked bandn source for ota update.
everything is good now, thanks so much,
now we just need someone to build a kernel that will help maximize the ram

I installed nova launcher and now it looks like a regular android tablet and much faster ui. I'm very impressed with the nook. if it had 1 gig of ram or quad core this would be the best android tablet. the screen is amazing. on par with iPad 3
