[Help] Taking/peeling off the "keyboard" on DROID 3 - Motorola Droid 3

I got myself a great deal on a somewhat good condition droid 3 so i got it. 190$ to be exact for a fully unlocked gsm for ATT.
The only thing i dont really like though is theirs 2 big scratches on the keyboard, at first i figured i wouldnt find but after looking at it id rather have a clean looking keyboard.

How the hell do i put this on?
Is the process just like the droid 1? theirs a video on that which shows how to do it but NOTHING on the droid 3 as far as i can tell.
thanks. Detailed information would be nice btw.

Thanks.... got this info from it :
Next, start to peel off the keyboard to expose all of small screws that is needed to be removed. As shown in Figure 6, unscrew all the screws and lightly remove the display assembly from the slide mechanism and keyboard. For further assistance in prying apart, use safe pry tool and do it slowly and carefully.
Weird that i really just peels of like that, hearing from the OG droid you have to be extra careful and it doesnt mention anything about that so hopefully its just a quick peel of then.... put it on lol?

Look here at Page 1 and Page 2.

thanks...but again their is no mention if it just comes off just like that without anything to worry about like the OG droid or not... ( looking online it has a layer underneath that is "fragile". )
All i have to really go off of is the method for the OG droid, i dont know if that gold stuff is sticky or not and if i have to worry about it.

Anyone done a successful transplant? My D3 keyboard has the skipping issue. Replacements are under 10 bucks on eBay, so I'm thinking of trying this.

FWIW the keys themselves are simply stuck on to the back membrane with adhesive tape. So if you just want to replace one or more keys, then just ease them off, and then swap them over. I managed to remove my A key by accident on my XT860, and have just used double sided tape to re-attach it.
Cheers,
Steve.

Thanks, I was curious about this exact kind of thing - how easily the keys come off and go back on, etc. About a dozen of my keys miss frequently (or double-press) so I'm guessing I've just got some worn or dirty contacts.

Tilt: Removing AT&T Logo

Has anyone try to remove the ugly AY&T Logo from Tilt? I want to see if it can just be scraped off without leaving a mark. I am not brave enough to try yet. Thought I would give it a try here.
Thanks.
Sugar cubes. Works wonders. I've used them on an Apache.
Re: Removing AT&T Logo
I've seen cheap skin packages for $3-$5 US for 8925 on E-bay that will cover the AT&T logo.
I too am wondering about this. The thought I had was if the sugar would damage the dark patina on the metal.
anyone do this yet?
as ay&t is not sending me checks to rep there logo I would like it off my phone lol
I'm also interested in this. Let me know if you guys get it off.

Can you explain more?
TIA
Supposedly you can remove the logo by moving a sugar cube back and forth across it. The sugar is supposed to be hard enough to remove it but soft enough to not scratch the metal.

We are talking about the logo that is physically on the top of the Tilt.
I never tried this, so I don't know if it works...
but shouldn't nail polish remover do the job? if not similar chemical products strong enough to wipe the paint but not strong enough to corrode the metal.

What did you think they were talking about sugar cubes for?
I tried alcohol and lacquer thinner just now...didn't cut it or damage anything.
yea this is the logo that is printed on the top of the device. I see the other write up BUT has anyone ACTUALLY done this?
I am concerned about scratching the dark patina over the metal.

Just buy a new front faceplate. They're cheap enough and you can be sure this one will look good without ruining your current one.

eken m003 8" tablet tear down and hopefully upgrade

Hi,
I trade out for an Eken M003 8" tablet running 1.6 on it. I can not stand it as of right now. I decided to do a tear down of it to see if it was indeed able to be upgraded. I have search all of the world wide web for anything on this, and so far I have found barely anything. I will be adding Pictures tomorrow.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this device, other than it is cheap? It has a wm8505 Chipset in it and a small ram chip as well. I am not advanced in the Hardware side of things, but I do like tearing apart..lol. I tried Wondermedia, and Via to try and buy another chipset for it, but I cant find one. Hell even if I can desolder the ram, I cant find anything to get back on it. One question I have is does the WM8505 chip actually contain the O.S. on it? If so what would happen if I did indeed replace it with a blank chip? Could I put an operating system of my choosing on it then? What if I increase ram from 128-1g? Lots of questions, and the only site I can find is Slatedroid, but it is non operational. I have a rooted Nexus and it is faster that this POS. I dont care what really happens to it, I just want to experiment. Any suggestions?

I just found tw6805 on everbuying.com,but i don't know whether it agree with yours.
The problem with these things is that, they are so cheap.... you cannot expect support. I really don't see the purpose of an Android tablet if you have an Android phone or a PC/Tablet PC
I agree about cheap, I didnt pay anything for it, I traded out something I didnt want for it. Really just wanting to try and upgrade it and see just how fast it is. I have a Nexus One that I love, and it is faster than this thing by far. Would be cool to stick in 1g memory, and 1ghz processor. Then I just have to learn how to port custom rom on it, and instant Bathroom fantastica!
take it apart
Hi tytngasman, how you dismantled it?
Do you have any suggestion?
I need to open it to check why the display looks garbaged.
Thanks.

There are 2 crews at the bottom, and an additional 2 screws under the bezel on the left and right side. Then just pop the tabs, and there you go!
Great! Thank you.
My M003 has got a very strange issue: if you push back the sim-like cpu card the display stop garbaging. If you leave it alone, all images are scrambled!
I was trying to glue the sim but is a no go...
In the meantime I broke the touch screen
Then... game over.

I dont understand what you are talking about with the glue. What sim-like cpu chip? The only removable thing on the board is the wm8505 chipset. It looks like a piece of Laptop Memory. Should have two silver clips on the board that it snaps into, and should be about 3 inches by 1.5 inches. do you have a pic of the part? also you can get another screen.
yes, the sodimm like card with the chipset.
if I push it, the screen is clean, if I leave it alone the screen is garbaged
I suppose that the problem must be related to wm chip itself (bad balls) or to the sodimm connector.
any suggestion?
ah! I just bought off ebay a touchscreen replacement for 15$ shipped.

i HOPE THAT WORKS FOR YOU, iF NOT SEND ME A PIC OF IT. Soldering is really easy though. If that is the problem, Also could be in the clips on the side. If you pulled out the chipset without first unclipping it, then it will not hold correctly.

What is the name of this part of the phone?

That's your LED screen. Google "screen replacement for (your model)" Should pull up a bunch of sites. Install yourself if able, cause some of these companies are ridiculous on prices. Did my wing for $28.00, I think. Been awhile. Good luck

wouldn't that mean i couldn't see a picture? my screen works fine its just cracked. I was told it is most likely the digitizer (but my touch gestures still work as well).

I assumed it was the screen itself. Is the screen plastic or glass. I would think plastic, but who knows. Google it. Most screens include the digitizer when the screen is purchased. Personally I would replace both at the same time if cheap enough. You'll have the phone apart anyway, If you plan on doing it yourself.
I found it fun & a bit educational. might have to order a tool or 2 but there very cheap. Be careful of the ribbon connectors, you can break them very easily.
Wow sorry to see the HTC Dream/G1 suffer the way it did.
I think its time to hang up the phone for good.
Save the money you would pay to fix it and move onto something newer.

Is that really a fair comparison ? It's a non-rooted G1 running 1.6. I'd like to see the results on a rooted/flashed w/Froyo 2.2 Also not overclocked like some of them.
Screens are cheap, relatively easy to install fix for a $400 phone. Seems a waste to "hang it up".
Interesting info @ site though.

The HTC Dream/G1 is dead last in benchmarks.
Unless he can find a screen for dirt cheap I believe it would be a waste of cash.
If he is eligible for a full upgrade discount from his provider let him decide for himself.

Agreed, it is his decision.
Root/Flash and overclock the G1 and your saying it will still be dead last ?
So another words, you break your $400 phone and "you" would just buy a new one ?

Oh man that thing looks nice! I wonder how access to the micro SD card works. The photos didn't give much of a hint. Also, how does it work to allow your headphones to still plug in? I know it's got a hole and a "plug" but isn't the case thick enough to prevent headphones from going all the way in? Or do they just make the hole really big?
Sorry for the lame questions, but I've never liked a gadget enough to get something like this for it, but this intrigues me!

I'm not sure about the sd slot either, but I have a Commuter case for my evo 4g and the plug is a flap of the rubber part of the case, so that when you unplug it from the headphone hole and plug in your headphones, the flap leans against your headphones plug, kinda like this:

How to "Brand" a USB cord?

My company is sponsoring an event in October and I was trying to come up with some low-cost, tech giveaway (all attendees will be getting a branded bag and this would go inside). I know a lot of people forget/loose/break their USB charging cords or could just use an extra one. So I've found some i-cables and micro USB but I'm trying to figure out a way to brand them to make people think of me whenever they use them. Thoughts/Suggestions are appreciated.
I would think the best way would be the stickers that you wrap around the cable and just stick it to itself, like the way they attach safety info or the way current manufactures put their brands on them. You know what I mean? It looks like a flag on it.. I would think that would be the best way. Any other way would seem too small to me. It would also be cheaper than other ways. I would opt for plastic and not just paper.

Or maybe you gen get your name embossed on it.. The flags may get torn but the etching will never go off..
I have gotten these before at several events and they can take a sticker. I am sure their are place that will even do it for you. Retractable USB cords.
On a side note, I use them a lot. They have stickers on them from where I got them. And I haven't looked at the stickers once. Couldn't tell you who gave them to me. LOL
Maybe put some kind of branding on the side that faces upwards on the usb cable? I can't be the only one who always tries to put them in upside down, and people would be sure to read the branding every time they use it.

Also if you managed to track down a "gimmick-y" usb cable for cheap enough to use promotion-ally it's definitely worth a little extra cost.
Maybe one of the extra short ones or one that clicks together as a wristband or something that fits on their keys. A private school I checked out gave out keychain flash drives with their name on it, I never went but I'll never forget where I got it since it's always on my keys.

We decided we will be exchanging the cord for the person's email address and answer to 3-4 questions that will allow us to send them a quote. So, once they have the cord, if they ever look at the name it's an added bonus.

Because we are already paying for the branded bags that every attendee will get, this has to be super low cost. I was able to get 100 micro and 100 i-cords for about $120 from China, maybe some of them will work
Thank you everyone for the input.
