I flashed Slim ICS 4.0.4 yesterday, with the Captivate essentials and Slim Gapps. The ROM looks great and is considerably faster than my previous ones (Phoenix Unleashed and CM7 2.3.5).
Although I have a couple of issues with the ICS keyboard and notification lights.
-In the GB keyboard, I used to be able to double-tap the spacebar and get a period. Can't see that option in ICS. Am I missing something in the settings?
- Also, in GB, the spelling suggestions used to work even when I've typed a word wrongly and placed a space between that and a new word. I could go back to the wrongly typed word and correct it. In the ICS keyboard, once I move on from a wrongly typed word, I can't come back to it and correct it.
If the answer is that move back to GB keyboard for a while, can someone suggest a good GB keyboard app?
For the notifications: I have the AT&T captivate, and whenever a text/email etc arrives, the four bottom lights don't light up. Again, I'm guessing I'm missing something in the options.
Thanks, and keep up the great work
Not sure about the keyboard, I use Swype and turn off auto correct.... But i can still tap on a wrong word anywhere and the word suggestion pops up to pick from...
But for the backlight notification, look for an app called galaxy s settings , should be in your drawer. Change backlight timeout to never.
Phoned in.....
I tried the Galaxy S setting and put the BLN to "always on". Still doesn't work. I've got the NS Tools option for missed calls BLN on, and that's the only time I get the light.

Get the BLN control app. It works for me.

hi, I just update to FRF50. Just wondering if there are any apps out for the colored trackball and trackball to wake the phone? I had those when I had cyanogen.
Untill the source is released there won't be a 100% working option. There are mods from Paul in the dev section for the trackball notification. There are also lock screen mods for the trackball wake.
Look for "No Lock" on the market. It turns off all lockscreens so pressing the tracball will turn on/wake the phone, again disables the lock screen. It can be ran as an app or a widget.
As for trackball colors, the only one I found that works with original 2.2 non custom rom is SMS Popup, lets you change the colors of SMS notifications.
Trackball colours works with all new FroYo Custom Roms here on XDA

"blink" and "Gmail unread count" allow custom colors on non-rooted Froyo.
Successive notifications don't work x-app but it will allow you to experience some trackball notifications until the source is out for Froyo to get a "proper" implementation.

Whilst this works well for me, I do find that Blink can lose settings randomly. You ever seen this?
If you are on a properly deodexed froyo Rom, ie modaco r17, you may use trackball alert for colored notifications. You can get itfor free from the market. As for trackball wake, nothing yet.

Can't say I've noticed. Will keep an eye out

Never had it do that, instead it would often flash the SMS colour for no reason, with no way to stop it though.
That was annoying.

No Lock from the market works for trackball wake on this rom
running frf72..... using a free app called lockbot that allows to you wake via the volume buttons and the trackball. you can also customize your lockscreen if you choose. this will work for me until something integrated comes along. Don't forget to make sure its installed on your phone rather than the SD so that it will launch on boot. Also remember to ignore it in any task killer you might use.
I've been using no lock for awhile, works great with no ill effects t to the battery life. Running desire r21.
yup i'm using no lock on froyo FRF50 and it works perfect. lets you use trackball to wake the phone, and battery life is identical as well.
I got my N1 third-hand (would you believe it), and am simply blown away by it. I came over from a Nokia 5530, where the touch menu button would light up every few minutes. Is it possible to do this on the N1, at least while the screen is on?
I'm running Cyanogen Mod 6 RC3, and I've ticked the option where the LED works as a breathing light, but it isn't. Please help me, I'm new to all this.
Umm yes go into settings, cyan settings, UI, track ball, and you can set the track ball color for each individual app. So for me texts blink red, missed call blue, Twitter green, etc.
No no I know that and I love it. But is it possible to make the trackball light up every couple of minutes for no reason? It's no biggie, but I think it would make a nice touch.
Send yourself a text message and never clear it. =P

XD. That is one way to go about. I like the humour and friendliness in these forums. It's a great place for beginners like me to get aquainted with our phones.

Yeah I'm pretty sure you can have the track ball flash all the time for no reason. Did you check all the settings?
Edit: I thought I saw a setting for this but now I can't find it. Maybe it doesn't exist...?
There is a setting, but it doesn't seem to work. Then KIagain, I am getting poor battery life compared to my Nokia, so no breathing light is both a blessing and a curse

ive got the same problem, there is an option in in the ui settings that says always pulse, but it doesnt seem to work for some reason. does anyone know if there is a fix for this
There is a free app in the market called LED Disco that will flash your trackball any color you want(as long as the screen is timed out)
You pick the colors via settings. You can have it cycle thru all the colors as well.
It even kills itself when a notification comes in so the notification can take over the trackball color, and then turns itself back on when you clear the notification.

I just downloaded led disco, I am running it to see what happens to my battery life if it doesn't drain it horribly it'll be pretty cool to use on a regular basis
FWIW, whenever I forget to read emails and leave the LEF blinking, when I come back, the battery usage is much higher than the 0.5% I normally get and the battery usage screen claims the "display" has been hogging the power.
I remember when the Milestone got one of its updates, Motorola set it up so that the notification light would only pulse when the screen is off. This is helpful because it can be very distracting, and besides which, there is already a notification bar displaying the same information.
Is there any way I can do the same with the Nexus One, and suppress the glowing trackball only when the screen is off?
Thanks
C

Yes I'm already on CM6 and I'm loving the custom trackball colours. But I can't find an option to disable it when the screen is on. Could you direct me to this feature? *EDIT: I found it, "always pulse" is in the Advanced menu. I think the behaviour is a bit wonky though because I already had it disabled and I was still sporadically getting pulses with screen on. I will have to test this further.
Also I'm wondering how CM6 comes up with the list of apps whose colours I can customize. I'm running the Trillian Beta and it pulses white for notifications, but there is no option to customize it in-app and Trillian doesn't appear in the package list for custom colours. I'd love to customize that one too.
Okay I just experienced it again. I was using androidVNC when a text message came in. The ball started glowing green even though the "always pulse" option was disabled. I went into Settings to confirm as much. I checked the option and unchecked it, and then the pulsing stopped.
So it seems that sometimes the OS "forgets" and pulses the trackball anyway even though the screen is on?
ive got the complete opposite problem, sometimes for me it doesnt pulse and sometimes it does only wen the screen is on. but it seems as if it does watever it wants to. must be some sort of problem... also mine doesnt pulse the colors i ask it too as if it doesnt get that i just got an email and i want to pulse it blue instead just white. it seems messed up
Running 2.3.3 here and just installed widgetoids to get the toggles in the notification dropdown area.
All works great through the widget on the home screen but when added to the notification tray in options it doesn't do anything when I click one of the toggles except close the tray.
Anyone got this to work successfully?
Would really appreciate it if anyone could test this for me as I'd love to have it working properly.
used it while ago and it worked perfectly... when its on the notification bar and you press it it's not like CM7 power controls for example... instead there is a pop window showing up with the controls and there you switch the controls on/off.. used that when i had Axura ROM on my device..
There's an option to turn that pop-up off though and just have the toggles in the notification area. This is what I'm trying to achieve.
I know the app can do it as it works perfectly this way on the incredible s from htc.
Ive turned it off but then nothing happens, I guess its not compatible with 2.3.3 yet...

Thanks for testing. Seems that may he the case, in which case its really nothing more than a glorified power control widget.
I'm running AOKP Build 39 and trying to go full ICS with the NAV bar. I've figured out how to completely disable the capacitive soft keys from working, however they still light up when touched. What do I need to do to disable the soft key light? I figured there'd be an option in ROM control or Display but I could not find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

I downloaded that, but it doesn't seem to do anything. It's just a widget? There's no settings to keep them off or anything, maybe I have the wrong app.. Can you post a link?
It is a simple widget. Works like a light switch.
Also, in ROM control, do you see an option for LED settings under functionality?
Edit
Well, it seems ktlo doesn't work on aokp. Sorry.
I appreciate your trying to help. I couldn't get ktlo to work and yeah, no option in AOKP that I'm aware of. Been doing a lot of research and apparently its really hard to do on the Captivate...
Although the setting in "Settings>Device options>Touchkeys>Backlight Timeout" definitely edits the duration they stay lit.. if only I could figure out where that actual number is located, I could edit it to be zero seconds which would keep them off? Any idea where that info is pulled from?
No idea myself. But,i was thinking about the same thing.
I tried pulling the aires apk from version 38 bit i don't know what to edit

In Sixstring's AOKP for Captivate thread he acknowledged that this is something that they planned on implementing but got distracted. He also said to look forward to it being in future builds at some point. I consider that a WIN heh.
